Stopped over at Powdermills Pottery on our way home from Cornwall. What a wonderful place this is: we had hot Chocolate , coffe and a delicious root soup (no scones on the winter menu) and an insightful chat next to a crackling wood stove fire and came away with a beautiful piece of Joss' pottery and the firm plan to come back for one of her pottery courses (this was not a result of hard selling but pure enthusiasm on our side :-)

Busy and loud but lovely ☺ and very cold in Jan! Had a Sunday lunch with generous portions (Beef for around £16) Would have loved to try their amazing puddings but was too full! At 12:30 on a Sunday it was very crowded and a bit loud with all the young kids, but the staff were lovely, real fires were fantastic, food didn’t take long at all and aside from the queuing (constantly in the way of people coming and going) it just felt relaxed.

Disappointing 'cod' (?) and chips takeaway. Couldn't eat the fish-it was discoloured (not white) and didn't taste right. It is so disappointing to spend our hard earned money on food that seems to be below standard. If poor weather affects the normal supply of fish then this should be pointed out at the time of sale and priced accordingly.

Popped in this pub today as our usual spot was fully booked, Ordered our food it didnt seem busy only a few tables in there and most of them were already eating, waited over an hour for our food, which was just burgers and chips, the burger was lovely but the chips were hard and cold, Cosy little pub but it was absolutely freezing inside, came out with numb cold toes never been in a pub and been so cold. Lady behind the bar seemed friendly and very busy as she was serving drinks and running out food.

Went here for lunch on my birthday with my family. The food was absolutely amazing, one of the best pies I have ever had, steak and ale, it was absolutely rammed with steak. My kids had a chicken burger and steak burger with bacon, both said they were best they had in a long time. Wife had the mushroom starter, which she said was delicious but she was pretty livid she didn’t have a main after seeing ours. Will def now be a regular of ours. Beautiful walks on the doorstep of the pub as well. Great place 😊

We came for Saturday lunch after a beautiful walk to Wistman's Woods. Staff were very friendly and efficient and even though it was busy and we hadn't reserved we received a table in the restaurant. The menu was varied and the food was wonderful. This accompanied by their locally brewed Ale made our lunch memorable. We came back in the afternoon after another long walk and enjoyed their lovely scones and tea and took a souvenir pack of their Ales On Sunday we returned and even though their Sunday roasts were fully booked we managed to get a seat and enjoyed the light lunch menu, consisting of homemade sausage roll, quiche and a very delicious soup. Compliments to the chef!

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

Lovely and cosy sat by the fire with our dog after a wet windy walk. Xmas decs up but could have done with some quiet Xmas songs or nice music on in the background. Went for the lunch rolls on the menu and all sounded soo nice, so hard to choose. When they arrived they came on a normal side plate, in an over toasted small bun with v minimal filling and nothing else with it ie small sprinkle of chips, crisps or salad garnish. In our opinion over priced & basic but on a plus very tasty.
