We recently took our family visiting from the US to enjoy famous cream tea, hoping for a delightful experience but turned out to be quite the opposite. Firstly, the scones: They were crumbly and stale, tasting terrible. Far from satisfactory. Secondly, the price: We were charged a ridiculous £8.00 for one medium-sized scone with a little jam. The cream, although provided in substantial quantity, was not fresh either. This pricing for such low-quality food felt like a rip-off. To top it off, the iced latte with caramel tasted like iced water with a hint of sugar syrup. It lacked any real coffee flavour or latte or and was disappointing.

We were looking forward to enjoying a " famous " cream tea at Two Bridges with our family. It was our first visit and although the setting is beautiful the scones were not. Plenty of jam and clotted cream and nice pot of tea but dry reheated scones that crumbled into pieces and needed plenty of tea to wash them down! When I mentioned this to the girl behind the bar she apologised and said they would have been made a day or two before and reheated . Disappointing they are not freshly made as we had expected. Sadly won't be retuning.

We ordered and had a ploughman’s and spicy chicken in a bun with chips. The service was not what one would expect, also paying for the food before having it from a hotel? The ploughman’s lunch was good, however the bun like the bun served with chicken was very dry, possibly dry. The spicy chicken was inedible, couldn’t cut it. The chips were good. Presentation good. Would be nice to hear some background music to create a welcoming ambience.

We went for Sunday lunch not because of Father’s Day but as we were on holiday. We phoned to book because we have 2 small dogs with us. They started to usher us into the dining room before a woman came out loudly saying ‘you can’t go in there’. Not very welcoming or charming. I said we phone to tell you about the dogs. We then had a table in the bar area. The starters were average. The soup was hardly visible and the prawn cocktail could have come straight out the 70’s very boring. The roast had burnt potatoes hiding under the meat. The meat was tender but the vegetables, you can only assume, they forgot to cook them. All in all very poor. We were given free desserts as I pointed out the problems. The staff are friendly. Food not worth the high prices charged.

Absolutely iconic beautiful spot in Dartmoor. Cant fault the setting nor the actual hotel, old fashioned and homely. Very cosy in winter and beautiful outside in summer. We always bring friends here when they visit especially if they have never been to Dartmoor before. We have been here a few times for event and a couple of times for meals. BUT, the food does not match the ambience and surroundings. We have been for cream teas on three occasions. Each time the amount of cream given has been an embarrassment (trying to impress out of towners with our famous devon clotted cream ) ONE tiny ramekin of cream and jam for THREE HUGE SCONES ??????? Thats taking the Mickey. This last time I decided to ask for an extra pot of cream when I was ordering and I paid extra for it but it didnt arrive. I asked the waitress and told her I had paid for extra. It came fairly quickly but on relfection I should not have had to pay extra. You cant call it a cream tea if there is only a small scraping of cream on a dry scone. We also had filled rolls and chipd to share before the scones. The rolls were OK but nothing spectacular and the chips were barely once fried let alone double or triple cooked like most decent restaurants do these days. Its a shame that such a beautiful place is letting itself down on the food its serving. i the future we might bring friends here just for a coffee or drink and find somewhere else for the cream tea

Have visited this lovely setting hotel a few times recently but sadly there’s always a function on and they appear to close the kitchen for any other visitors. I presume there’s weddings or functions on most weekends so I would advise to call and check if you want to have lunch here, especially if you’ve been on a 10 mile hike as there’s not a lot of other places to go nearby!

Stopped for a Cream Tea, left disappointed. The scone itself was rather large, which was fine but the ratio of cream and jam to the size of the scone was far too small. Such a tiny amount made the scone hard going, dry and crumbly. For the price of £7.50 each I expected more. Not worth stopping for a cream tea.

We had booked a very last minute for 2 nights (with our dog). We have in previous years had a cream tea or a lunch snack but never stayed. Yes the rooms do need a refurbish. We have definitely stayed in much better rooms and these do not come cheap. But there is a however a big BUT. We had our first night dinner .it was way above expectations. From that moment on every perception changed . This a property that has ‘old skool’ charm and ambience which is reinforced by a young , enthusiastic and very helpful team, including everyone front desk to cleaning staff . Yes we are sure that when very busy they might get a bit pushed but then you don’t go to the middle of Dartmoor to expecting large teams of staff hanging around waiting for a big influx of custom that may or may not arrive . Yes a little pricey, yes property could do with money being spent on rooms but we left looking forward to the next time .

Ambience nice. Staff pleasant. The food was very tasty, - BUT very slow service - they need more staff. We were supposed to receive complimentary bread with pesto and pork crumbs by way of apology for the slow service - but in fact this was charged on our bill at a whopping 24 pounds ! One slice of bread each (six of us) cost 24 pounds I kid you not. My husband too polite to complain _ I would have ! They ran out of Yorkshire puddings and so one of us had to go without that on our roast dinner. We didn't pay for teas and coffees as they wanted to apologise for the lack of Yorkshire pudding and those did in fact get taken off the bill. I didn't hate it but also hate the price (35 ) for 3 courses and Ive had just as good for less money. Not sure Would go back...

We thought lunch on Boxing Day would be a treat and a nice drive across the moors. The hotel was very busy so good job we booked. There was a pianist playing Christmas songs which added to the atmosphere. A very limited menu - mostly consisting of Christmas leftovers in my opinion. We all opted for the prawn and crayfish cocktail as a starter. Tasty prawns but very little sauce so quite dry and at least £1 per prawn! Main courses were all sausages and mash - not exactly the meal out we had planned! 2 of us had desserts which were, without doubt the smallest potions I have ever seen. The treacle tart was finished in 2 mouthfuls and at £9 definitely not value for money. At £9:50 for a glass of wine I didn't have a second. The bill for 5 of us - 5 starters; 5 mains; 2 desserts and 1 alcoholic drink came to over £250. Such a shame as the location is ideal.

Given the price as well as reputation, we were very disappointed by our Sunday roast in the Two Bridges restaurant. The venue is lovely in many ways, especially the pianist. Nevertheless, it took ages to get our meal and we finally gave up and left before dessert because we had already been waiting twenty minutes for the dessert menu! AND, they charged us for three courses--as if we had ordered dessert. As for the food--very mediocre. the starters: the pate was good but the goat cheese was weird--just a brick of goat cheese. The meat (we both had beef) was tough and hard to cut and not the best quality. Previously, we had been traveling to another pub for Sunday roast (where the food and service are spectacular) but we thought Two Bridges would take less time--and the food would be comparable. As it turned out, due to the extremely slow service, it took just as long at Two Bridges where we didn't even have dessert! We will not be returning.

We decided to take a trip to Wistman's wood and finish with a cream tea at The Two Bridges Hotel. After ordering our cream tea for two, the waitress arrived to our table with a tea for one only and dashed away. After explaining that we received the wrong order our cream tea for two arrived with apologies. We were really looking forward to it, but as we tried to spread on the jam and cream the scones fell to pieces as they were so dry and crumbly. The cream tea had also arrived without any teaspoons and again I had to find staff to request some. The waitress took spoons from behind a counter and put them on a dirty tray for me and then dashed off. I found another member of staff and requested some clean ones. They were all very much dashing around and therefore it was obvious that mistakes were being made. The tea was lacking in any taste and was of a disappointing quality and there was nothing particularly special about the jam as was being advertised. The cream tea at the Two Bridges needs to live up to it's billing and price and the there is a need for staff to slow down and be more attentive to detail, so that the customer's expectation is fulfilled.

To start off with, the coffee was amazingly good and the staff were very friendly. However, that's about where it ended. We went for a cream tea - the scones were so crumbly and dry we couldn't even pick them up without it disintegrating into powder, never mind attempting to spread it with cream and jam, to which you can see the end result in the attached photo. We ordered two scones and they came with the same amount of jam and cream you would usually get for one. The jam is advertised as Hogs Bottom jam, however it didn't taste like it. It's such a shame, as this would have been a lovely place to have a cream tea after a walk on Dartmoor.

I have just had a two night stay starting Saturday I was really looking forward to the experience as you had just won best restaurant in Devon category. I also visited the cafe which also won it’s category The first day was excellent from check in on wards. The staff were amazing but seem to be constantly working long hours. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to give excellent service. Thank you to all of You I guess staff in the background are also being stretched to the limit! Sunday again Excellent good breakfast. Sunday Evening after being given menu observed the menu had not changed from the night before except the soup. It appeared to be a limited menu which I accept under present covid conditions but to repeat just seems a tad lazy After a lot of though chose Sirloin Steak even though it involved a supplement My Haddock Chowder was delicious My steak arrived, it certainly was better presented then a Cornish steak at Brss… Bl…c In Bournemouth last week Despite being given a steak knife it was really difficult cutting and impossible to chew I spoke to waiting staff and there were no issues it was dealt with promptly but was advised that another steak would come from the same joint so would needed to be cooked differently I had, had a lovely venison the night before but could not decide on an alternative A Roast Dinnef would have been my first choice if had been on menu for the. Day. The lounge menu of Sausage or fish n chips did not appeal. We left the restaurant without anything further we were offered desserts and coffees etc and as informed there would be a reduction in our bill to compensate, I dis ask that a message be related to chef that the cooking had been superb but was ingredients that had let them down On departing this morning nothing had been passed on re meal and I was presented with a bill Upon querying, an amount was deducted and I was given final bill I note now from previous reviews someone else has mentioned gristle an fat being an issue in August Should not either the butcher or the chef remove the gristle and use in stew casseroles etc. I live near Minehead and not once have I had to send a steak back which I have have had many times on Exmoor and North Devon It was a disappointing end to a Anniversary weekend Thoroughly enjoyed Premier room experience just felt let down at the end…
