We went out for a drive and stopped in Okehampton for food. Being a Sunday, we were limited to pubs. The first one we went to was The London, which had a couple of tables free in the main bar area immediately under large TV screens showing football. We ventured into a quieter area and on ordering were told there was only one roast dinner left and they didn't do an all day breakfast on a Sunday. Off to next door, The Plymouth Inn. We were shown the restaurant area behind the bar, which we had completely to ourselves. A lovely young lad took our order. We chose the pea and ham hock soup to start and the beef and ale pie, chips and peas. The soup resembled two tins of value mushy peas tipped into two bowls, seriously! Any ham that may have come into contact with it had somehow evaporated. It was thick and lumpy. The main course was a bowl of cooked beef and gravy with a separately cooked oval of pastry, the standard frozen chips and peas. The beef was plentiful, if just cooked and the gravy looked heavily loaded with gravy browning and was quite rich. Not a bad meal but could have been so much better.

Always a good selection of cask ale in the Plymouth. There is also a cheap pint on offer, normally Dartmoor 'Black Tor' but it can vary. This is a locals drinking pub that offers some food - probably not the best choice in the area for if you're looking for a quality menu, but it gets an 'very good' rating from me for friendliness from the locals, a good selection of normally well kept beers and a great atmosphere.

Thought we'd struck lucky when we got a table at short notice - bur now know why. Food was just edible! Same thick gravy served with beef roast/chicken roast and lamb roast - looked like it had been made with poorly mixed granules. Parsnips burnt and roast potatoes looked like they had been deep fried - haven't eaten in here for year and wont be revisiting any time soon.

We were on holiday in the area and visited on a Sunday evening looking for a bite to eat - largely based on the 4star rating. We ordered a pork shank, the duo (ribs and wings) plus 2 burgers for the kids. Apart from the pork shank, which looked and tasted very nice, the remainder of the food was a little uninspired.Burger was literally a burger in a bun plus chips - no sauce or anything and the duo was mostly lattice fries and not so much of the ribs and wings. That said, the staff were nice , the beer was nice with a range of real ales on tap and the price was very reasonable - £36 for 4 of us.I'd probably go back for a pint but eat elsewhere.

Popped in here for a meal on a Monday evening mainly because there was nothing else available in Okehampton which is curiously shabby compared to some of its smaller and more expensive neighbours! This place obviously caters for locals and I got the impression that we were unexpected (but welcomed!!) visitors! My pork shank was lovely, beer (Marstons) well kept and my son enjoyed his vegetarian lasagne but my wife's burger was not very inspired. It was very good value and did what we needed of it. There are more exclusive restaurants not too far away for a more special meal but this was a good budget place to eat.

My Partner Jayne and I were on our way home to Wales on Sunday 1st March and were feeling hungry. We were concerned that at 2.30pm we might not get any decent food and might have to rely on going to a services or fast food restaurant. We hesitatingly drove into Okehampton and being given advice by other pub went to the Plymouth Inn. Despite the fact that we were the last to arrive for a meal (others in the restaurant area had finished theirs) we were made to feel very welcome indeed. There were still three choices of Sunday lunch pork, lamb or beef. We chose the lamb and were astonished at the size of the portions and quality of the food. The pretty little pink serviettes gave a pleasing ambience and although we were the only ones in the restaurant you would not think it as we were fussed over as if we were friends not customers. The icing on the cake was that they served real ale for me and draught guiness which is Jayne's favourite. Should we find ourselves in Okehampton again we will certainly pay a visit to the Plymouth Inn.

Firstly I should make it clear that this review and rating is as a pub as we only went in for a couple of drinks, so I cannot comment on the food or restaurant aspect. We were looking for somewhere for a couple of beers and stumbled on this pub almost by accident as it is right at the end of town. It was difficult to know what to expect from the outside, but we took a chance. And I’m glad we did. It is very much a locals’ pub, but comfortable in the bar and without loud raucous music blasting out. The beers were good, and the locals’ friendly, so I was pleased that it turned out to be the sort of pub I like. I believe there is a restaurant at the back although I didn’t see it.Rating this sort of place is always difficult, as although I thought it was good, it was similar to a lot of other pleasant but unremarkable pubs but without being sufficiently above to be classed as ‘very good’. As Trip Advisor does not have a category for good I have rated it as average on the basis that average means ‘typical’ and not a negative rating.

Looking for a place to eat in Okehampton, we stumbled upon The Plymouth Inn. A mixed visit really. The food was ok, chips were excellent but the Steak and Ale Pie was not too great. Asked for some extra gravy and told that it had just been thrown away and didn't have any. Bar staff and waiter were very good! Wasn't keen on the ales on offer, although JHB was a nice supprise. Cant say this was a poor visit because it wasn't, but it wasn't amazing either. Hence the 3 star rating..

OK no starter.I then ordered the 'Monday Special' - pie and a pint for £7.50.Pint was good, the pie absolutely terrible - it was supposed to be steak and ale - it appeared to be congealed onion in a bisto type gravy - no meat whatsoever, and tasted revolting. Why didn't I send it back - I was with a friend who managed the food served - and I didn't have the energy for the confrontation. We had lunch here today and were very disappointed. We only ordered a main course and the rest of the place was nearly empty but it took nearly an hour to get our food. When we chased our order we were told that we had been informed that there was an order before us. How on earth do they cope when the restaurant is full? I ordered the Plymouth Inn burger and was expecting something at least a bit different but it was just a burger on a dry bun, nothing special. The food was hot and edible and there were a few friendly locals in the bar but we will not be returning. The pub business is very tough at the moment, it is a shame that there wasn't more attention to detail. Maybe evenings are better?

A nice traditional pub and by far the best in the town/village for atmosphere and ales. Rated in the good pub guide and in GBG by CAMRA - and deservedly so. Friendly staff, though on the night we visted were rushed off their feet. As a result of a couple of big parties we think that our food was rushed and what we ate was disappointing and bland. May be worth a try because Okehampton has few eating opportunities, but we felt we could have done a lot better. Would visit again, but not for food.

This was changed without hassle but I then waited for 35 minutes for my replacement choice of Roast Pork, meanwhile my husband had finished his meal. My pork when it arrived was obviously not fresh but sliced when cold & reheated as were the new potatoes & veg. We recently took our family visiting from the US to enjoy famous cream tea, hoping for a delightful experience but turned out to be quite the opposite. Firstly, the scones: They were crumbly and stale, tasting terrible. Far from satisfactory. Secondly, the price: We were charged a ridiculous £8.00 for one medium-sized scone with a little jam. The cream, although provided in substantial quantity, was not fresh either. This pricing for such low-quality food felt like a rip-off. To top it off, the iced latte with caramel tasted like iced water with a hint of sugar syrup. It lacked any real coffee flavour or latte or and was disappointing.
