A disappointing experience all round having stayed for 2 nights and eaten at the Inn for both. It's clearly a locals stop off and can get somewhat noisy if 'the lads' are playing pool in the bar area. The service and food were both a bit lack lustre and not particularly enjoyable. OK we were not expecting gastro-pub or fine dining, but the standard and quality of food was below par. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and overly hot due to a piping-hot towel rail; the window was small and did not help to vent out the hot air, plus we were near the kitchen ventilation/ducting area which was on until late. The bed was fine and all was clean, so no complaints there....but it certainly didn't feel like the pre-booking photos of the place. In essence, this is OK for a stop-over if you've plans in the area but I wouldn't recommend eating here. The best bit is being close to Burrator reservoir and mile or so down the road from the Inn.

Burrator Inn Lunch deal £11 Last time I visited the Burrator Inn I was staggered by the cost: a glass of wine for the price of a bottle in some other pubs! So when a friend told me of their lunch deal - lunch and a drink for eleven quid we thought we'd give it a go. Tuesday lunchtime was in no way runaway busy but the way we were greeted was quite offhand, especially when we asked for the lunch special. It was not offered even though it was a 'special'. After 25 mins were were told they hadn't put the order through. We weren't offered anything in recompense until I went up to the bar and gently ask for some more drinks whole we were waiting. Again, was disappointed that I had to ask, especially as they sent the junior waitress out to tell us. I always feel its something the leadership team should own, as they have the authority to make a goodwill gesture  50 minutes after our order, the food finally arrived. My portion of sausage and mash was tiny. I know small plates are fashionable, but this was risible. Two small sausages and a couple of spoons of mash. For 11 quid, it's simply not worth it. My wife had the fish finger sandwich, again not the most massive portion. Only after we left did she tell me it was lukewarm at best. So it must have been my meal that wasn't ordered and hers had been left to cool. Then they tried to charge me for the 'complimentary drinks'.

I stayed at the Burrator Inn from 1 March for about 5 nights. The Staff were very friendly and relaxed. It was very homely. My Room was cosy. Even though it faced the road, it was still peaceful and quiet at that time of year. I was supplied with the the usual kettle and Teas. But I particularly enjoyed the Cafeteria with decaffeinated fresh Coffee from South America? Full English cooked Breakfast was very filling and I requested any additional cereal. I will definitely be coming back here to stay. Though I heard it can get busy in the Summer! It was ideal for me at that beginning of March. Situated near the Burrator Reservoir on the edge of Dartmoor and very convenient for visiting a friend in the quaint village of Yelverton nearby.

Quickly seated and then hurried onto ordering drinks before we had even had a chance to look through the menu. After asking 3 times to be given time to choose in 5 minutes we made our choice and within 2 mins someone taking our food order. Usually wouldn't mind the speed but the server had no idea of the menu items and when asked about the £11 lunch menu was told it wasn't on. I questioned the manager (person behind bar) she was very reserved and almost startled to be asked. I suggested it was on the website and she begrudgingly acknowledged it and allowed us to order. What came out was the worst food item I have ever ordered. Not much more than a kids menu. Ham egg and chips.......a handful of chips, a couple of thinly sliced bits of ham and an egg. Very poor. Staff rude and abrupt, even telling one of our well behaved children that their knives and fork were not correctly laid ince finished the meal. Terrible in all ways. Never to return.

AMAZING CRUMBLE!!! We (a group of 10) visited the Burrator Inn for some crumble. We phoned up to book a table and the staff were more than happy to accommodate us- despite only going for crumble, on a Sunday. Their service was fast and their bar team we’re very friendly. Their crumble of the day was absolutely delicious! And they pour a great pint of Guinness. I highly recommend visiting their pub. Its perfectly located, near Burrator Reservoir, which is a great place for a stroll to build up your appetite for crumble!! 10/10. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

We had just been on a lovely long walk around Burrator Reservoir and booked a table for 6 at the Burrator Inn for a nice relaxing family meal. Not long after we were seated, a waitress (older than the rest) snatched a wine glass from the table and said 'you wont be needing this!'...did we look bedraggled or something...not good enough for a glass of wine? As it was I settled for a cocktail which was nice. The meals took a good while to arrive (the place was reasonably quiet) and the portions very small considering the price, the puddings also took an age to arrive and were also very small, thank goodness we didnt order the childrens portion for the kids. The staff could do with cracking a smile now and again, the older waitress...RUDE. The male that greeted us and took payments was courteous and friendly, the females should lead by his example. If you are going to the Burrator Inn for a hearty meal and are hungry after a good long walk, I would not recommend the Burrator Inn. The food tasted nice, just need bigger portions.

Not usually one to leave a poor review of a business but truly mean for this to be useful feedback. The restaurant itself is lovely - log burners, cosy atmosphere and some nice touches like the personalised reservation signs. The food was also fresh and tasty, no issues and arrived quickly. The missing piece is the front of house, staff are friendly but lack direction. It all seemed a bit disorganised and frantic when the restaurant wasn’t even at half capacity. Our food arrived before our drinks, these things happen, and we were told they would be on the house - the drinks were wrong when they finally arrived and were still on the bill when I settled up, not fussed about freebies but the inconsistent communication is frustrating. With the right direction this place could be a lovely dinner spot, just needs to get the details right on the customer facing side, unfortunately we were left underwhelmed for the price point.

Not terrible but definitely over priced in my opinion, had a Korean chicken burger Asian slaw and fries and my wife had ham egg and chips and was a lighter lunch option. Chicken was Luke warm and soggy and wet as slaw was in the burger and would have been better on the side, definitely half a breast of chicken as was really small, Fries lovely and hot and crispy but not many at all and came with a mayo which had definitely been sat in a ramekin for a while as seemed to off colour on the surface, whole plate just looked chucked together not very attractive and for over £15 I personally thought was poor, wife’s lunch was ok apart from hardly any fries. Would we go again… possibly ..although table next to us where asking for refund on fish finger sandwiches so probably would rush back, also older lady FOH was very pushy. Honestly probably won’t rush back

After 20 mins my friend went to the bar to order drinks but was told no it's table service . So he came back and we waited another 5 minutes to order and another 5 minutes to get the drinks. We ordered food which also took ages to arrive. Food overall was good ,but we both thought not value for money. Got the bill to find that Neck Oil beer was £6.10 a pint 😮 We did mention to the person behind the bar about the slow service. It was because there was only one person in the kitchen.. So that's my problem is it ? Overall got the impression that we were a bit of an inconvenience . Won't be going back.

We stayed here for my husband’s birthday we were a bit perturbed when we arrived as there was a sign outside that said music all night on Saturdays & we are a family with one child. We booked a table for 7.30 but were told we had to be there at 6.30, okay fair enough as the pub doesn’t have anywhere else around it within walking distance to eat we had to go along with it. When we arrived the waitress showed us to our table which wasn’t the table we were shown when we checked into the hotel, she told us that there were no tables available especially the one we were shown previously & she was exceptionally rude in telling us this! During our time at the restaurant nobody sat at that table!! We ordered drinks which she got wrong then as it was a special occasion we ordered the £30 steak, it was a frying steak & tiny portion-see picture. You can see that the tomato (one tomato, may I add) is half the size of the steak & the tomato wasn’t even a beef tomato! So OVER PRICED, the steak was chewy. My fish and chips arrived COLD! Then we ordered a cheese board that we wanted to take to our room we were EVENTUALLY told again in an aggressive manner ‘we don’t have any cheese’. We decided to make a move to our room but first paid for our meal the waiter asked if everything was okay to which I replied’No!’ I told him about Fish and Chips then showed him the picture of the steak & said ‘would you pay £30 for that’ to which he just grunted. I asked him if he could do anything to compensate for this to which he replied’No!’ Then I asked to see the manager to which he also replied ‘No!’ We went to our room with music blaring until early hours! If you are considering staying here or eating then I would think again!

Unfortunately we couldn't get anywhere near the fire as two people were sprawled over the chair and the sofa, respectively. Lots of potential. Speed of food wasn’t bad and the roast itself was ok, but at £19 you expect a bit more. If you have to pay extra for cauliflower cheese it better be cheesy! No veg with the child’s food. The children’s ice cream scoops were criminal and we mentioned this twice to different staff. the lad was licking the bowl as it was so miserly but no offer of another scoop or an apology! As they were so casual about it we didn’t leave a tip and we always tip! Like i said, it’s a nice country pub and has potential but just a few improvements and a bit of staff training needed. Will come back for a drink again for sure. Has to ask for the bill twice.

Arrived after a long walk and given room key which didn’t work. Changed key. Got into room to find it is ok but peeling paint, mildew in bathroom, blinds don’t work but nothing too awful. Go down to dinner where nobody seems to have a handle on what is going on. Get to our table and decide what we want. Waitress takes our order but told first choice sold out. Quickly go to second choice but this also not available. Ask for a couple of minutes to consider third choice. Make a decision despite not really wanting anything else only to be told that this isn’t available either. Make hurried fourth choice but then realise I really don’t want this so cancelled order. Told we must order quickly if we want anything as kitchen closing. Made distressed choice. Chicken and Ham Hock pie doesn’t really taste of anything. Nobody asks how our meals are. Eighty one quid for meal that is mediocre at best. Retire to bar where there is much shouting and swearing; much, it turns out, from people who work there. The jazz, Motown and soul music promised on the posters turns out to be nothing of the sort so give up and go to bed. Woken in the early hours by somebody swearing and shouting as they stumble to the staff accommodation above. Not a good night’s sleep. In fairness breakfast is good and service better but can’t wait to leave. Nobody asks how our stay was as we leave. Was never really sure who was supposedly in charge but it was mostly a bit shambolic. Had been here many times previously, albeit some time ago, but not somewhere you could recommend sadly. We paid £4 for literally a handful of chips, it was honestly disgusting! We bought 3 portions which together would not have even made up a full portion for £12, seriously ! Normally I would have complained and asked for a refund, but as we had Spanish friends with us, I was highly embarrassed and didn’t want to make a scene ! The kids were hungry too, but of course still hungry afterwards ! The chap behind the bar was very nice and atmosphere nice, but that has put us off going back, an absolute rip off ! Under the previous licencee's, Phil & Sarah, the Burrator was a friendly, sociable pub, welcoming locals & visitors alike. Since it's refurbishment it's changed & although decoratively, it's much improved, it no longer has a welcoming feeling. We paid £59 for two roasts, a child’s meal and drinks. The beef was really tough and there wasn’t a lot of it. Cabbage was nice, small amount of potatoes and random kale the plate? Everything was quite cold. We were told an hour into our booking that we had 30 minutes remaining and basically to pack up and leave - no time for a desert. The blonde manager was rather rude about it. When complained at the bar that the meat was really tough her response was ‘oh’ with no follow up. As far as roasts go this was very average, but I do like to be transparent! Positives: lovely gravy and Yorkshire puddings. I personally really enjoyed the red cabbage too. The pub is gorgeous inside since it’s renovation. Their day to day menu has some great options! Friendly staff. Good presentation. Negatives: very fatty short-rib beef, there wasn’t much meat to it at all. Roast potatoes weren’t crispy either which is a must for a roast! We all found kale to be an interesting choice for a roast and it was just a limp and tasteless… surely some roast parsnips or carrots would be a better accompaniment? Pigs in blankets were £5 and you only got 4 of them - quite steep considering they were small! We all agreed that the desserts were very mediocre at best. The crumble was incredibly dry and just tasted like porridge to be honest, it didn’t taste like a crumble at all - wouldn’t recommend! Worth noting that the service was incredibly slow and no one came to ask if everything was okay with our meal. Seems to be poor communication amongst the staff as we had 3 people come over to ask for our drinks order when we first arrived and same again for desserts (after waiting about 15 mins). We enjoyed our roast but there’s definitely some areas for improvement! Won’t be rushing back.

We didn’t stay in the hotel just had a evening meal with drinks on. Tuesday evening. Had a lovely evening meal with visitors from Australia. We had local sausages, pies and Chicken main courses and everything was cooked to perfection. We would have given five stars but for the wait for our food. Whilst we realise it was all cooked to order, we still felt that we waited a long time for it.

Great location, in the past had okay experiences but this week hasn't been great. The waiter bought a coffee over and said 'mocha' and I said do you mean cappuccino to which he said 'I don't know' and walked off. When my sister cappuccino and my mocha had arrived well it was so bad I left it, it was all watery with no milk at all, I used to have this here all the time when the lady (who wasn't there today) makes them it's nice. We also ordered two chips, one came immediately and the other we had to chase after 10-15 mins. Not great service and terrible drinks, the chips were chips but a tiny portion.

Beautiful pub but unfortunately the food was not as nice . Left almost a full meal and won't be eating there again. It really was not very nice at all and a lot of wasted money.

After a long (ish) walk around Burrator Reservoir- a well earned pint and decent food. Added bonus of being dog friendly. Highly recommend 👍🏻

Superbe terrasse pour prendre un petit morceau après un tour du Burrator Reservoir. Les propositions pour le lunch étaient bonnes, mais un peu chères pour ce que c’était.

A lovely pub on the edge of Dartmoor. We booked via OpenTable and then arrived half an hour early. Our table was already prepared. The menu is great. Plenty of variety. We ordered the 4 small plates for £22 deal and a main course each. As soon as the small plates arrived we realised we'd over ordered. The restaurant was very happy to box up our main courses so we could get them to go. The service was great, the place was staffed by friendly polite and very attentive young people. They were a credit to the place. Highly recommend.

Could be great- had some good meals a little overpriced but the service has been shockingly poor- losing money by not offering more drinks/puddings etc

As we are local my wife and I have had many great meals here in the past but tonight I ordered the fish pie (£19). What I was served with was essentially the size and quality of a single portion Tesco ready meal scooped into a metal tin rather than the plastic one it came in. Garnished with a dessert spoonful of peas and 3 fragments of overcooked cabbage leaf. The staff were not interested merely saying there was nothing they could do regarding reducing the price. We won't be going back.

5oz “sirloin” looked more like a piece of smoked mackerel with an inhumane amount of salt and crushed peppercorns, handful of frozen chips and 3 undressed baby gem lettuce leaves thrown on. No garlic butter. £16. Didn’t have the nerve to say how bad it was, think the landlord was our waiter so he was clearly happy to serve it. My partners lettuce leaves were dressed with mayo and crispy onions which tasted strange and synthetic like they’d been cooked in rancid oil or been in a plastic container for a long time. Yet another nice pub in a good location let down by poor quality ingredients, cooked without skill, at rip off prices. Explains why it was empty!

Have been here plenty of times in the past and always Was, good wholesome food at a reasonable price. Since our last visit they have been taken over, sorry to say I won't be going back and think the new menu and food is pretty poor. We didn't get greeted very well, they got the order wrong, and we eventually got our food which was OK but not a patch on the old one. Enough to say we won't go back and wouldn't recommend. A sham as the atmosphere and place is nice.

2 * only for the nice seating area outside. Both had homemade pies. The pastry inside wasn't baked enough. After we told the person that cleared the table she only said she'd tell the chef. No other reaction as she returned a second time like sorry which we expected or for example a free coffee. At the bar for my pint of shandy they filled 3/4 lemonade and charged the full price for a beer £ 5,70. Can't recommend it.
