The best chips I’ve tasted in a very long time! Lovely staff, very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be going back, highly recommended

Walked in to find no queue and was greeted with a grunt. The glum assistant took our order. Her only words were ‘salt and vinegar?’. ‘Yes please’ we said. 10 seconds later she had forgotten the answer and had to ask again. After a miserable fifteen minute wait (remember there was no queue) while we watched our dinner being prepared in super slow motion, we were silently handed our fish and chips. 5 minutes later we eagerly unwrapped our dinner to discover a soggy grey slop of chips, cardboard flavoured fish and yes you guessed it… no salt or vinegar.

Dinner for 6. I had the huge Cod fillet. Cooked perfectly on the grill. All servings were excellent and service was good as well. My next trip will include Mickey's place again. Thanks Mickey.

A takeaway serving chips with chilli on top, what is not to like

Stopped in to get my son something for dinner. Walked through the door to be greeted by….silence. Just a young, gold-chain-wearing, lad that looked up at me and then looked away again. I waited to place my order. He looked at me again while wrapping what looked like a curry sauce, but the ability to speak had not returned to him. He looked at me again, then looked behind him, at the two other kids - one watching a video on his phone, and one further out the back with AirPods in - and shouted the name Daniel. AirPod boy came to front and chain boy ask him if he would serve. Daniel took my order, and was polite about doing so. A standard chips, a plain jumbo and a battered jumbo. On getting them home and handing them over to my son, they were unwrapped to discover very dark, chewy chips, and very dark, burnt battered sausage. I would suggest the oil needed changing. Now I already knew better than to order fish and chips in Tavistock, but my son, to his credit, has always said to give them another chance. He won’t be making that mistake again, as he did not enjoy them at all (and he will eat anything). Restaurant was completely empty, I was alone in the takeaway - it’s the school holidays and the place was empty. It was around 7.15pm. Whoever is running this place needs to train the staff to cook and to serve.

Fantastic food cooked perfectly! & coeliac friendly! Great job! Great food done well. These guys really excel at what they do. Don’t understand some of the negative comments, wonder if there is some other type of motivation behind those as these guys do excellent food. As strictly gluten free, they take great care to ensure the food is safe for me too which is truly appreciated. Plus bear in mind that cooking with gluten free batter is an art in itself.

Chips were not edible, been cooked so many times tasted like cardboard. Shame as it used to be a lovely chippie, but that’s the second time now the chips were bad, sorry won’t be back again.

Stopped by on the off chance that we could get a meal with our dog and toddler after a long day with lots of driving. We were made incredibly welcome as a whole family and the food was very good. The dog was treated to her own bowl of some little bits of fish too! I also recommend dessert! Especially if you like things like deep fried mars bars - the deep fried cookie dough bites are next level!! Fantastic service and food. Thank you very much!

The worst fish and chips ever. Awful. Greasy fish batter. The haddock consisted of a very thin fillet. Chips soggy and greasy. Just shocking takeaway.

WOW amazing food and very polite and friendly staff. I ordered my favourite sausage in batter and regular chips. Very fresh and tasty. Far better than the chippies I have trued on the Barbican in Plymouth. I would highly recommend this shop, if you like chips this is the place to go.

Went here before going to a evening wedding reception excellent food great quality and not over priced would definitely recommend

My husband ordered & paid for fish & chips and a child’s cheeseburger meal. Got back to our place to discover no fish in the order. Phoned to complain and request a refund. Was then charged an additional amount, was told husband would be reimbursed for the additional fee and credited the amount for the missing fish. Strange how payment can come out immediately however refund is still not in my husbands’ account two hours later. Shocking customer service, would not recommend.

Great the intelligent crew was on tonight. I come i and ask for a bag of chips. Lots of chips in the tray, I wait for a cod to be cooked, I wait for order after order to be cooked and delivered. For gods sake get orders in, get the money in and get then out of the door. I waited 20 minutes for what was already cooked because tghe intelligent crew could not organise an eat up in a chip shop. Will try the other place next time

Brought 4 portions of chips to take home after a long busy day and they were very lukewarm some almost cold and they actually tasted stale, ended up throwing them away! Tried phoning them and no answer. Will not use them again

Ordered 2 small battered cod and a medium chips on Monday 20th May. The fish batter was overcooked hard and unedible the fish was hard to find and what there was was overcooked. The chips were too thin and greasy. We threw the whole lot in the bin. Will never return or recommend the shop to anyone. We would have gone back but unfortunately we had poured ourselves a drink and was returning home on the day after as we had been on holiday just outside Tavistock so not able to go back to the shop.

We have been coming here for a long time as the food is so good, but on our visit last Sunday I actually thought it had changed ownership the service was terrible hole in teapot so hot tea every where forget my sons drink forgot the bread and butter after asking about the bread and butter it took so long we had nearly finished the meal, the chips were awful full of black bits and tasted earthy very disappointing.

Good size portion of chips ,the person serving us didn't really acknowledge we were there ,my chicken burger was very bland ,didn't see pies or chicken portion on menu,then before we left they were doing a pie order ,so board needs updating

The best tasting chips I have had in a long time. The food was excellent. And the customer service was very friendly and polite. The food wasn't heavy and the battered sausage was very fresh. I would highly recommend this place and would eat here again.

The best chips and mushy pea fritter I’ve ever had, highly recommend

Had the extra large cod as they don't serve a cod named as a large portion, unfortunately it was slightly smaller and a lot more expensive than your average fish and chip shop's large . Although disappointingly small the fish was well cooked with an average batter and the chips only ok ... It is staffed mainly by youngsters who are not in it for a career and only have basic training and as expected no real enthusiasm for this line of work (can't blame them).. I'll give it a miss next time I have a wish for a fish dinner .

Went in today 3,11 23 ordered 2 medium cod and chips with 1 curry sauce they got the order wrong by miss hearing me so had to wait finally get it right and get home I live 3 minutes walk away the food is lukewarm and I ordered curry sauce not curry jelly ( cold )

Food was OK, staff barely spoke at all to us but heard a lot of moaning from 2 staff on their breaks and was way over priced for what we had. We had 2 jumbo sausages and chips and 1 curry sauce which cost us just under £20 had we realised sooner we would have gone somewhere else and got 2 lots of cod and chips with 2 curry sauces for a lot less than we paid here. Won't be going back anytime soon. Lastly it was very noticeable that my husband had half the amount of chips as I had because he had the ramacin of curry sauce on his plate.

Really useful you can order online for collection. Good quality food and cooked well. Definitely one of the better Fish and Chip shops out there!

Bought a large cheesey chips, bacon and cheeseburger and plain chips. The cheesey chips have at best a sprinkle of cheese on them and we asked for no salad on the bacon and cheeseburger yet it came with salad.

Good service and fish was moist and deep, very nice.

Truly awful unfortunately. I was really hungry and wanted them to be nice but the chips were probably the blandest ive ever eaten, all soft and squidgy. The batter on the fish was greasy and overcooked on one end. All in all very disappointing for a premium price.

Took the family for sit-in fish and chips on the 1st night of our holiday. Top notch food, very accommodating and excellent service. Would definitely recommend if you love quality fish and chips.

Pre Ordered a take away and I was slightly late picking it up but it was totally worth it. Had visitors staying from abroad who really wanted a proper fish and chip supper and Mickeys Plaice didn’t disappoint. Was still hot when we got it home and it was soo good. Staff were friendly and efficient too on telephone and in person.

We saw mickeys plaice when it was closed and decided to return later because menu looked good, we did and was not disappointed. Food and service was very good 👍

Perfect fish and chip cafe! We felt lucky to stumble across Mickey's Place whilst holidaying. What a great little cafe. They welcomed our dog with water and a bowl of freshly cooked cod! The waitress was really friendly and welcoming. The cafe felt spacious, clean and fresh (not at all greasy as some chip cafes can do). The food was great and as with the previous review they were attentive to our daughter's nut allergy. Highly recommend :)

Very poor, called for delivery on a Saturday night, appreciate was busy but an hour and half wait is still quite extreme. Was told over the phone that card was accepted on delivery however when the food arrived this was not the case so had to call back to make the payment over the phone. Food was pretty cold, chips were soggy and of poor quality and fish was quite dry, curry sauce was ok as was the battered sausage. Would not recommend as for 3 of us came to almost £40.00

Great friendly staff, quick service and the Food is classic British Fish and Chips with no faults. An extensive menu so if you want something a bit more outside the box they have it. Ide recommended the spicy chicken burger. Forget kfc, go local.

Best Fish & Chip shop in Tavistock. Excellent for gluten free and brilliant understanding of how to avoid cross contamination for coeliac customers and those with allergies. The young man in charge of frying produces food of consistently high standard. Overall five stars. Keep up the good work :)

What kind of chip shop refuses to serve you at 8.10 - 20 mins before closing time? It claims to close very early at 8.30 so we arrived 20 mins before be cause we don't want to eat at that time but thought with 20 mins to go it would be OK, but they were already refusing to serve us

Unfortunately, the thing that annoys me more anything else is when you order food, get home and you're missing one of the main components of your order! Spent £33, got home and I was missing my jumbo battered sausage (we don't live next door)!! Phoned up and the girl wasn't overly bothered, did apologise but said she'd refund or give me a free one on our next order. The system obviously needs to be improved and hope TJ's opens again soon as I won't be going back to Mickey's. What food I ate was average, wife said the mushy peas were very salty!! Not a great experience I'm afraid 👎

Terrible. Fish was inedible. Was full of grease and all you could taste was grease! Chips weren’t great either. Complete waste of money as all went in the bin!

The fish and chips were ok but the mushy peas were exceptionally salty. I phoned up and was told that they were cooking a new batch of peas and they should be ok ,no suggestion that they would replace the salty mushy peas that were inedible. I didn't ask for a replacement in all fairness as I thought that should have been offered,not the best customer service

Excellent selection of food. Service assistant seemed very unhappy and unhelpful with no welcome or 'how can I help?', just raised her eyebrows, hence the low star score. There is a small step to enter. Price and portions are reasonable. Score would be much higher with a smile next time.

Always provides a good service. Always friendly. Calling up and paying over the phone for booking delivery is available also cash on delivery... Always happy to help... and to top it off food is amazing with meal deals and Always great value for money considering current snuggles with price hikes ect... 100% the best chippy in town Always my go to for a lazy night in!

We would normally use TJ,s in Tavistock however, I wanted to try Mickeys, I was not disappointed, the food was hot, tasty and with good portion sizes.

Ordered a portion of chips and I do not know what oil you’ve cooked them in because they were awful they were a whitey colour and mushy if so they hadn’t been cooked properly or the potatoes are old but I feel very I’ll and been violently sick from them maybe need to check your oils or potatoes next time wouldn’t recommend

Great food, good service, very cold inside but I think that's because they leave the door open. Understandable with covid on the rise again. Will only use this place now as the food is so good and very fresh.

Stopped here for our dinner. 5 of us sat around the one table and grabbed a spare chair from another table. 4 cod and chips and a fishcake and chips with curry sauce was the order of the day... all arrived at the table fresh and red hot. Honestly one of the tastiest chippies I've been to, would totally recommend visiting!

Had fish and chips last night and it was nothing short of outstanding. If I could have given more than 5 stars I would have. The fish was fresh and a good size and the chips were amazing. The 2 girls serving were really polite and efficient. Would have to agree with earlier review that it does depend who's frying but based on last nights food not sure anyone in Tavistock would need to go anywhere else for their weekly fish and chip fix.

Fish fresh and not greasy and perfect chips. Not the usual pukka pies but a traditional pub pie full of meat and gravy. 3 clear plates spoke for itself. Read a few negative comments but totally disagree with them see you next year for more of the same.

Having owned my own fish and chip business for 20+ years and also formed part of the judging panel for The National Fish And Chip Awards run by Seafish for 10 years I felt it was about time I left a review and feedback for the owner. Have been a regular customer on and off for quite a while and have had some of the best fish and chips you could ask for from here BUT it all depends who's frying. If the young girl is frying then heed my warning and STAY AWAY. Her fish is mediocre at best and her chips are awful. They look more like saute potatoes. Some of the worst I've had. Not what I'd expect from somewhere that's suppose to specialise in fish and chips. To the owner - Keep her away from frying, she's not doing your business any favours. The young lad that seems to do a lot of the frying now is a bit better but find the quality inconsistent. I've bought 3 lots of fish and chips. 1 was really nice the other 2 where overcooked but edible. His chips are better but again inconsistent sometimes dry and overcooked. The older chap that used to do a lot of the frying and the reason we became regular customers has cooked some of the best fish and chips we've had. We've been to countless fish and chip shops. Some of these are very highly rated and have been awarded for their efforts. Sadly this chap doesn't do much of the frying anymore which I find baffling. To the owner - An experienced fryer who knows what they are doing and understands why they are doing it is worth their weight in gold to your business. This chap should be your main fryer and could put your business on the map.

Best chip shop in Devon! Went there for fish and chips and it was the best I’ve ever tasted. The batter was delicious and the curry sauce just complimented it perfectly. Great portions and lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. I’ve been there to dine in and take away and every time has been amazing. I recommend this chip shop to anyone and everyone. The staff all go above and beyond and always serve with a smile one girl in particular called Devon. 😊🐟🍟

Had fish and chips from the takeaway last night. Absolutely delicious as always, fish cooked beautifully and ample portion of chips. Always very happy with the good food and exceptional service from the staff at the counter. Will be back again very soon.

Bought me and my family a variety of food from this shop last night I’ve been here a few time and the service has always been amazing loverly staff! it was visibly busy last night however the food was lush as usual and staff very accommodating. Definitely recommend

Went into the restaurant the other night - great service. Lovely meal!

We are on holiday in Devon and fancied fish and chips. The service was terrible there was no food ready so had to wait longer then we should have had to. We arrived back at the accommodation looking forward to eating our meal and I have never seen so many black chips on one plate. The food was bland. We threw most of it away. I would not recommend at all.

Tried the new pulled pork hot dog on the menu, it exceeded my expectations and was absolutely amazing, good portion sizes and can the tell the food is fresh !!

Absolutely love it here. The front of house team are absolutely brilliant (the two lads and two girls). They are always welcoming and they clearly work well together as their supportive comments to one another are really lovely to see - plus they are absolutely hilarious and made us smile while we waiting for our order. The food is superb also. The chips are some of the best we’ve had, and the portion sizes are great for hungry appetites. Would recommend highly and can’t wait ‘til we visit again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🐟🍟
