Visited Princetown on a cold grey windy day. Wanted lunch and a visit to the prison museum which was unfortunately closed. Received a warm welcome at the cafe. It was nice and warm and very clean. The service was very good and staff very attentive. Ordered Coffee fish, chips and peas and my brother had coffee ham, chips and peas. Coffee good fish and ham very good. Chips hard and dry with a few peas. Car park £3.20. Will not be my go to place for future visits on Dartmoor.

Yesterday I booked a table for 3 people one of them being in a wheelchair that went well. We had driven a long way to come to this place. On arrival we went shown our table and then waited over 10mins before someone came to take our order cream tea. When the cream teas arrived the scones were very dry (not freshly baked) the clotted was just enough for one scone not two, the jam was very dark colour and didn’t taste of strawberry jam and also very small portion , even the teapot was small just enough for one and a half cups of tea not good is it for the price of £7.50. Also the smell of fish and chips did put us off a little. So overall very slow service, dry scones, very small portions so as a Chef / Baker of 50+ I know what I’m talking about, this place for me is a F-L place FRIST & LAST TIME I visit make fresh scones it’s not that hard to do

We came here today with my Dad & step mum who is recovering from surgery. We booked a table while travelling over the moors towards Princetown, and on arrival, our table was waiting. Served by friendly attentive staff, our order was soon taken, and after a short wait, our freshly prepared food was brought to our table. Food was very tasty, well presented and hot, which was nice as outside the temperature was just above freezing. Washed down with a large pot of tea, full & and contented, we headed out in snow flurries for our journey home. Highly recommended will definitely be back once again.

Disappointing 'cod' (?) and chips takeaway. Couldn't eat the fish-it was discoloured (not white) and didn't taste right. It is so disappointing to spend our hard earned money on food that seems to be below standard. If poor weather affects the normal supply of fish then this should be pointed out at the time of sale and priced accordingly.

We had seen this place in some online suggestions for places to eat, and said that we would have to try it. We went on 20th. November and had a lovely meal. I had the vegetarian all day breakfast and my husband at the fish and chips, both were excellent, and really good value for money. There are several vegetarian options (which is unusual, I usually have to settle for macaroni cheese). They do roast and a veggie roast. It is well worth a visit. The food is lovely and so are the staff. The food is not only lovely but so it the price. Very reasonable. We are definitely going back.

This place has turned in to something awful. It used to be so good. Went there today and it is the most unwelcoming place I have ever visited. Signs everywhere telling me what I can't do, where I can't go. There are roped off areas everywhere and there are more cones around the place than the local council have in stock. That aside we did manage to get in to the place, only to be greeted by the most rude staff ever. We promptly turned around and gave our money to a café down the road. Avoid at all costs. Won't ever be back with this owner in charge. This is a re-submitted review, because tripadvisor didn't like what I had to say. That's the world we now live in.

Not impressed with the “take-away” service! We waited nearly an hour watching other customers being served and leaving, even after several attempts of complaining.. Note: The sit-down area takes precedence, followed by fast orders… IT TAKES 12 MINUTES TO FRY A FISH… Not 49 minutes! Cheap enough, but was it worth the wait.. definitely not! And: this place USED to be motorcycle friendly! A note that will be added to every social media platform..

This place is so bloody surprising. We walked in and were tempted to walk out, ‘cause it looked so dated. The other half said “I kinda like the outdated look of the place” so we went in. Boy were we surprised. I ordered large (don’t get small, large isn’t large) cod and chips with mushy peas and the other half ordered a roast dinner (at 16:00 on a Tuesday). We discussed how it could easily disappoint and waited to see what turned up. This place has a chippy attached to it so the cod and chips HAD to be good - it was. The roast dinner claimed fresh vegetables, which we doubted, but they were. Roast potatoes seem frozen but still tasted ok. Our plates were both absolutely cleared.

It's a busy place overall with a mixture of sit down cafe, chips shop take away, and gift shop/ local gallery. The food is good quality, generous in portion, but not high-end cusine: it's a cafe not a resturant after all. The wait in the cafe is a little long as the focus for speed seems to be subsumed by the take-away side of things. Overall, I would recommend it at the drop of the hat as a great place to eat/drink and especially recoop after an exhausting visit to the Moor. The attached photo is the Ploughman's lunch, a little un-conventional in format but very tasty: homemade pickle, generous portions of cheese and ham, fresh crunchy coleslaw, warm baked roll, etc.

Popped in on the spur the moment. The place is clean, tidy and bright. Didn't get a 'wow' when I walked in, but neither did I feel I wanted to leave. Cafe is shared with a takeaway, the kitchen if which is 'part of' the cafe, so cooking smells, dishes rattling, etc. were all present - mind you we sat on table 8 which is nearest to the takeaway - other parts further away may well be less smelly and noisy but then there weren't as many (if any) windows. We just had two lattes (which were lovely), but a full range of food is available. Prices seemed average, neither cheap nor expensive. Limited free on-street parking otherwise a nearby carpark charges £3 minimum.

Not really into this get rich society that is currently being played out in the uk currently so not into hyped up prices as being seen in this cafe. The old cafe had been taken over by the current owners of this cafe and so the prices went up through the roof as did the waiting time to be servered, some ten minutes waiting time and time to glance the menu and viewing the size of the meals come to other customers The first thing that came to mind was how expensive things had become compared to my last visit here. So tea for two is all I had because i choose never to pay for overpriced items. My advise is to bring your own food as its much cheaper

Stopped over at Powdermills Pottery on our way home from Cornwall. What a wonderful place this is: we had hot Chocolate , coffe and a delicious root soup (no scones on the winter menu) and an insightful chat next to a crackling wood stove fire and came away with a beautiful piece of Joss' pottery and the firm plan to come back for one of her pottery courses (this was not a result of hard selling but pure enthusiasm on our side :-)

Paid for 5 items of food and upon returning home, discovered that only 4 had been put in the food box. Service was a little vague to be honest.

I ordered a large pastie which I paid £4.50 what I got was a small pastie which waisted terrible. How oggy can say they are the best pastie around I don't know they are rubbish. And should be ashamed selling small pastie as a large. You even need to clean up ur shop and stop ur staff from picking there nose wen serving.

We arrived and were immediately greeted by a lovely lady and shown to our seats. Another lady served us and the food was good wholesome home made cooking. We both loved our choices. We noticed the degree of personal care the restaurant gives to each of its customers. A real home from home. Thank you, from two weary travellers.
