Are you planning to visit Dartmoor? - The Old Police Station cafe is a must on your Dartmoor itinerary! We’re regular visitors of Dartmoor National Park and this Lovely cafe is in the middle of Prince Town, “renowned for its friendly service, good food and stunning location”. Our fourth visit to the cafe, the experience was great each time. This visit, family ordered large battered fish & chips and chocolate sundae. It was perfect! However, I am still awaiting to taste a traditional roast on the menu as they run out of beef roast & Yorkshire pudding quickly. I can’t wait for our next visit here.

Found this place a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely amazing fish and chips and very affordable. Batter is nice and crispy and so are the chips! Friendly staff and just a nice place to come to, it's now our regular chippy which considering we live about 25 miles away from here tells you just how good it is.

Great little cafe to visit for a meal or just a cup of tea. Located in the middle of Princetown, this little place becomes the fish and chips shop in the evening. There is an extensive menu and the food is delicious. Great service from the staff, who are always pleasant and helpful.

This place has turned in to something awful. It used to be so good. Went there today and it is the most unwelcoming place I have ever visited. Signs everywhere telling me what I can't do, where I can't go. There are roped off areas everywhere and there are more cones around the place than the local council have in stock. That aside we did manage to get in to the place, only to be greeted by the most rude staff ever. We promptly turned around and gave our money to a café down the road. Avoid at all costs. Won't ever be back with this owner in charge. This is a re-submitted review, because tripadvisor didn't like what I had to say. That's the world we now live in.

Not impressed with the “take-away” service! We waited nearly an hour watching other customers being served and leaving, even after several attempts of complaining.. Note: The sit-down area takes precedence, followed by fast orders… IT TAKES 12 MINUTES TO FRY A FISH… Not 49 minutes! Cheap enough, but was it worth the wait.. definitely not! And: this place USED to be motorcycle friendly! A note that will be added to every social media platform..

A lovely café in the middle of Princetown. Four of us all enjoyed our lunch here today. Two of us needed to tweak our order, which was no problem. The food arrived at the same time, hot and correct, which was great. It is waitress service, so sit and be served and pay at the counter when you have finished your meal. I have eaten here a few times and will definitely return. Thank you to the hard working team.

This place is so bloody surprising. We walked in and were tempted to walk out, ‘cause it looked so dated. The other half said “I kinda like the outdated look of the place” so we went in. Boy were we surprised. I ordered large (don’t get small, large isn’t large) cod and chips with mushy peas and the other half ordered a roast dinner (at 16:00 on a Tuesday). We discussed how it could easily disappoint and waited to see what turned up. This place has a chippy attached to it so the cod and chips HAD to be good - it was. The roast dinner claimed fresh vegetables, which we doubted, but they were. Roast potatoes seem frozen but still tasted ok. Our plates were both absolutely cleared.

It's a busy place overall with a mixture of sit down cafe, chips shop take away, and gift shop/ local gallery. The food is good quality, generous in portion, but not high-end cusine: it's a cafe not a resturant after all. The wait in the cafe is a little long as the focus for speed seems to be subsumed by the take-away side of things. Overall, I would recommend it at the drop of the hat as a great place to eat/drink and especially recoop after an exhausting visit to the Moor. The attached photo is the Ploughman's lunch, a little un-conventional in format but very tasty: homemade pickle, generous portions of cheese and ham, fresh crunchy coleslaw, warm baked roll, etc.

Listed as a motorbike cafe the parking was in a pay car park nearby although motorbikes were free. We didn't eat but perused the menu which was typical cafe food. They did do take away fish and chips though. The decor was fairly used nothing outstanding although the loo's were up to date. Right next to a well tended green , sitting outside on a nice day would be a good people watching spot.

This is a very busy cafe and I can see why. I had the turkey roast dinner and a part from the roast potatoes being the type you get out of the freezer (they were still very nice) it was a fantastic dinner. Popped in on the spur the moment. The place is clean, tidy and bright. Didn't get a 'wow' when I walked in, but neither did I feel I wanted to leave. Cafe is shared with a takeaway, the kitchen if which is 'part of' the cafe, so cooking smells, dishes rattling, etc. were all present - mind you we sat on table 8 which is nearest to the takeaway - other parts further away may well be less smelly and noisy but then there weren't as many (if any) windows. We just had two lattes (which were lovely), but a full range of food is available. Prices seemed average, neither cheap nor expensive. Limited free on-street parking otherwise a nearby carpark charges £3 minimum.

We were On a Caledonian coach holiday and a cream tea was included here. Small cafe with even smaller toilets. We all had two plain scones with jam and clotted cream and I thought they were dry and boring. Well I would have preferred fruit scones and looking on the menu they are no more expensive. So why didn't we get at least one fruit scone and one plain .? Although I would have preferred 2 fruit scones. And I gave one of mine to my husband who is obsessed with cream teas.!!!!

Some only sitting there for 10 minutes got fed up in the end and told the waitress we were going as we were fed up waiting she said it’s just been plated up and I said you said that last time before you’ve just served that table , so we are very disappointed after having a lovely day out on my wife’s birthday .

Not really into this get rich society that is currently being played out in the uk currently so not into hyped up prices as being seen in this cafe. The old cafe had been taken over by the current owners of this cafe and so the prices went up through the roof as did the waiting time to be servered, some ten minutes waiting time and time to glance the menu and viewing the size of the meals come to other customers The first thing that came to mind was how expensive things had become compared to my last visit here. So tea for two is all I had because i choose never to pay for overpriced items. My advise is to bring your own food as its much cheaper

Lovely pub. Great views of Dartmoor. Pub is in the middle of nowhere with nothing within a couple of miles each side. Good selection of drinks and interesting history about the place. Roast dinner was a little disappointing. Very crispy, hard to cut, dry roast potatoes, thin meat. Gravy just tasted like bisto and everything else tasted like it was supermarket frozen food. The fresh boiled veg was nice. Partner had rabbit pie, which was well filled and tasty. Chips weren't very tasty.

We only popped in for a pint and some cheesy chips, as we were eating at the end of our walk. The carvery looked and smelt awesome! Portion size was good, and prices were very reasonably pitched. Great venue, which will obviously be stunning in summer! Still very busy, but lots of staff to serve you, with table service. Service wasn't the quickest, but they were busy, and it was polite when it came. Atmosphere was more towards the 'family' vibe, so if you're not a fan of lots of kids, be mindful to visit in the week! They really could've done with lighting some of their fires to make it feel cosier as the temperature is dropping! It was quite cold inside! We will be back to eat a proper meal here and enjoy a quieter visit.

Had an amazing Sunday roast here - service was fab and pub was warm and cosy. I've only knocked a star off as I paid £6.40 for a can of 0.0 guinness and half a lime and soda - which seems quite highly priced

No draught lager, so a pint of shandy cost £6 as you had to pay for a bottle of lager and a lemonade Carvery itself was underwhelming. Frozen Yorkshire puddings are always a bit of a let down. £16 for a large roast dinner which wasn't particularly large. It just meant you can have 2 of the 4 meats (1 slice of each) Beef overcooked, pork looked very fatty. Turkey was ok. Cauliflower cheese was raw. Gravy wasn't very good. Roast potatoes looked deep fried and weren't very nice. The leek gratin was very nice though. Wouldn't go again unfortunately.
