Coffee small and cheap tasting. Quich was ok but had a choice of a garnish or salad - went for the salad - which sadly was only a size of a garnish and only lettuce, cucumber and tomato with a mass produced coleslaw! The waitress made no effort in making conversation and definitely there to get a weekly wage and never smiled or showed any warmth. She is definitely a ‘karen’. The menu a typical greasy spoons - with boring choices. Expensive for what it is was! Very little vegetarian choices just your normal vegetarian sausage!

Pretty terrible experience. The place could do with some background music, at the very least that would drown out the horrendous smokers cough coming from the Kitchen. The food is pretty expensive and low quality, cheap bread, weird flavours, strange small plates, and its very very slow. When you come in and go to pay you are greeted by a view of the owner sat by the kitchen door smoking her head off, you can hear the effects of that habit as she coughs away whilst making the food. Service is a bit weird too, it just all felt unhygienic, try somewhere else.

We popped into Tavistock on our way to holiday let and were very amused to see a cafe sharing my name😁 Lovely to see such a good menu selection with some traditional choices. I had cottage pie, chips and peas, hubby had vegetable sausage baguette with chips, all really delicious and, hurray, a place where food is not served on stone cold plates. Would have loved a dessert but too full. The place was very busy and the two young girls serving were courteous and friendly, advising customers at the door of a wait for food, good to be forewarned. Will definitely return when next in the area.

Brilliant place, very kind staff, very accommodating and excellent service.. went in there this morning with my partner for breakfast she just had stomach bypass surgery in past couple of months so she couldn't eat much, they was very helpful and put the extras on a small separate plate for her to eat and the food was very good quality and cooked to perfection aswell, it was a lot bigger portion than what I expected it would be as first time there today so didn't expect it to be as big as it was but i managed to get through it all apart from leaving hash browns and 1 sausage I would of defo finished it if I wasn't full but it filled me right up was a lovely breakfast we both enjoyed it and will defo be going back here in future whenever we are around Tavistock again.. we highly recommend this place to everyone you won't be disappointed it's a very lovely cafe

I stopped here with a friend and had an afternoon tea for one. The scone was delicious and was served warm and came with plenty of cream and jam. I was impressed with the choice of different scones. It was good value for money. On the downside I found the older waitress quite abrupt and not overly friendly. Not rude by any means but just not that welcoming. I too was put off by the waft of cigarette smoke coming into the cafe from outside

I've been in this cafe for tea and cake before but yesterday was the first time for a cooked meal. It was fairly busy when we arrived but we were able to find a table and soon had menus and drinks arrived quickly. Sadly, the service after that was a real letdown. We waited ages for our food order, which was tasty enough and then had to ask twice for the bill. Value wise, it's not cheap but prices have gone up everywhere. I wouldn't return.

Traditional home cooked food, delicious home made cakes and just a really nice calm quiet atmosphere. I had the cottage pie which was just what you expect, seasoned really nicely and the chips were really crispy and tasty. The drinks were quite expensive for what you get which is why I haven't given a 5 star review but other than that it's a wonderful cafe that serves wonderful food. The staff are really sweet aswell.

We have visited this restaurant several times recently and had great service. On our first visit the cook came down and we had a chat with her. She makes all the cakes and gets up early each day to bake fresh. Lovely cakes. On another visit the gentleman who served us a cream tea gave our dog a couple of biscuits which made it a firm favourite with him. On our latest visit this week the server was somewhat abrupt and complaining that she had a bad cold. I ordered a slice of cheesecake to go with our pot of tea. It was very nice. When we went to pay she had charged us £6.50 per slice and when I queried that this was the price with clotted cream which I didn't have she said she forgot to offer the cream. It clearly states that clotted cream is £1.50 if ordered to go with the cake but she did not refund it. In fact she was quite offhand. What a shame I said I wouldn't return after such poor service.

Small portions and larger portions for a number of meals. Reasonable prices. Good service. We chose the homemade soup. A choice of Leek and Potato, Tomato, Mushroom, French Onion, Cauliflower or Mushroom. Leek and Potato for my partner. Cauliflower for me. Both with a warm half baguette and butter. Popped in for 2 teas, a biscuit and a cheese and tomato sandwich. We had parked in a one hour spot, thought 25 mins plus walking time should be ok....teas check biscuit check no sandwich....teas now drunk and biscuit eaten...went in to pay minus sandwich as we were running out of time...huffily told it was ready and that it would be wrapped for take away. Waited outside again and sandwich eventually arrived. Rushed back to car and unwrapped sandwich to find 2 slices off bread with some grated cheese. So dry it went in the bin....not impressed and £12+ lighter.

I was going to get a takeaway tea, I prefer to support small independent businesses rather than the chains (A Costa Coffee is right next door but Karen’s Cafe was there first!). Anyway, I ordered my tea and a slice of Lemon Cheesecake to takeaway and a Cream Egg scotch egg cake. Both were gorgeous. The cheesecake was a very generous portion and was the best I’ve had. Really lovely food and the cakes were delicious!! Pretty good service and loads of choice on the menus. Only real downside was sitting next to the till and listening to the young female employee muttering negatively under her breath about a group of ladies on the next table after they simply asked for some more cutlery. Also going on about how ‘bored’ she was and how the ‘shift was dragging’. Really unprofessional and annoying!

I’m delighted to have found this small but totally delightful restaurant in Tavistock’s Main Street. After peering through the window ( rather embarrassing as people dining) to check if available tables, after opening the door, I was greeted by a delightful welcoming lady. We were offered to choose an appropriate table. Their service was very attentive as there were other diners there. A mind blowing menu and something for everyone, and they cater for those with possible food allergies. My husband and I ordered from a set menu, starting with homemade soup, followed by a roast. The portions are very generous which is most acceptable. Everything was freshly prepared, piping hot, nicely presented and truly delicious. The Resturant is immaculately clean, noticing the cleansing of tables between customers, and the one toilet well stocked with washing products and equally well maintained. The two ladies that served us, Jen and Anne were friendly, efficient and so welcoming and helpful. Although fairly quiet on arrival this restaurant filled whilst we were there, and Sam the Chef coped admirably. Noticing other meals that came out from the kitchen, all well presented, portions good and enticing. These three ladies were constantly busy, but made time to make sure everyone was catered for. Nice to receive hot coffees too, as so many places tend to be Luke warm! All the food in this Resturant was made in-house, and the display cabinets of homemade cakes, jaw dropping. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert. Thank you to all the three ladies there, we had an amazing lunch, and plan to return many more times. Would highly recommend a visit.

Stopped over at Powdermills Pottery on our way home from Cornwall. What a wonderful place this is: we had hot Chocolate , coffe and a delicious root soup (no scones on the winter menu) and an insightful chat next to a crackling wood stove fire and came away with a beautiful piece of Joss' pottery and the firm plan to come back for one of her pottery courses (this was not a result of hard selling but pure enthusiasm on our side :-)

Came in for Sunday roast and food was 10/10, best roast we have had for quite a while. What lacked was the service. We booked for 3pm and whilst we appreciate we entered at a busy time wrapping up peak time, service received wasn’t great from the off. One particular server seemed to be in quite a mood and was remarkably blunt “no” when we asked questions about getting some extra yorkshires (which we were a bit surprised the pork meal didn’t come with, but our fault for not reading the menu properly!) Plus someone seemed to think it was a great idea to loudly polish/sort out the cutlery at the bar, which was right next to our table, making conversation quite difficult and picked up by all 4 members of our party. Shame as food was amazing and would go back, but service lacked. 3pm bookings just as important as 12pm as all paying the same!
