My wife and I came here for a coffee to start our day. We shared some sourdough toast with butter and jam, while I had a cortado and my wife ordered a chai. We headed out into the garden and took a seat in the morning sun. The toast was excellent – butter and jam may be simple, but it’s always a winner. My cortado was very good, and if we’d stayed longer I’d definitely have had another. My wife, who’s something of a chai enthusiast, didn’t enjoy her drink, unfortunately. We spent around 45 minutes playing a card game before heading off, and overall it was a lovely, relaxing way to begin the day.

We were staying a very short walk from the pub in a cottage for a visit to the races at Cheltenham. Having already booked our dinner reservation on the Friday some of us who were early arrivals popped in for a drink on the Thursday evening. We were welcomed straight away and did not feel out of place not being locals. When we returned for dinner the following evening we were remembered and welcomed warmly again. Such friendly staff and service, great selection of food on the menu and an extensive wine list! We all enjoyed our meals and had a lovely chat with the staff before leaving. We have booked the cottage for next years festival and we will definitely visit the Black Horse again!

We had a cheeky weekend break in our camper and found this lovely, proper country pub. We both had a meal and could find no fault with either meal. The beer was well kept, the licencees welcoming and the obvious regulars friendly. Dog friendly, though we left our terrierists in the van. Food area in the main away from the bar, so diners get the pleasant experience of not having other customers traipsing by, unless of course you choose to dine in the bar which we did. If I lived closer it would definitely be a regular haunt.

We attended a Wedding at Fosse Manor (in their Hyde Barn). The wedding catering was excellent. It is confusing to read the other reviews here as there was no actual restaurant on site that we could see - just the wedding banquet room and adjoining bar. Breakfast however was not good. Pre-cooked under 3 heat lamps and self-service. The tea was very weak even after adding more tea-bags! The breakfast room was styled like a hostel with long trestle tables for lots of guests to sit together, and was extremely noisy. After a night spent in the terrible accommodation here (for which we have written a separate review) we did not enjoy this experience at all. A shame, as the Wedding catering itself was very well done and managed.

Arrived after having a year away to find no tea room and part of the shop (next to the actual water wheel). This is such a shame but I suppose its probably due to visitor numbers falling as nowhere to have a cuppa & snack although there are nearby alternatives that are comparable to what were the high prices. The remaining shop stock has stayed the same items of clothing and tourist pieces. Could do with a revamp, new stock items to breath fresh air into it. Other than that staff friendly as usual.

We walked into this Pub to enjoy a coffee on a Saturday lunchtime. It was not busy. We were ignored by all three staff members whilst we stood at the bar. No eye contact, no acknowlegement of our presence - no interest. In the end we walked out. They just could not be bothered.

Went for champagne afternoon tea. The good: staff helpful, food quality ok, nice fire. About as much atmosphere as a motorway service area. Value for money very poor. Reservation a waste of time-seated in bar area at unset up table—was told lounge unavailable due to a conference—so why accept res? Brushing up while we were eating…not good!
