Black Horse Inn in Cotswold

A great pub - with good food and beer - and a very friendly welcome to my group of ramblers. It is a real gem of a pub in the Cotswolds.

Really lovely pub, visited twice during our stay in the area. Delicious food, very friendly staff and a good atmosphere when busy. Also very dog friendly, our dog was spoilt with treats and we were given tables with space for him to be comfortable sat by us.

The Black Horse . This is a gem, an attractive old country pub situated amongst lovely rolling hills . Great food , an excellent chef , friendly and welcoming staff . My friends and I have enjoyed lunch here maybe half a dozen times over the last year . We visit many pubs and this is amongst our favourites. Today no exception. One comment , today a number of well behaved walkers turned up , bought little and ate their own sandwiches on the premises . Rather sad for them to carry their bread and completely to miss out on a not expensive menu which would have left them with a special memory. We assume they received permission to do that. However it just looks bad and does little to support a deserving business. My French pal with us (who ran his own hotel and restaurant ) was a little shocked . So merely a plea from a fan , to walkers ( I am one) try to honour our pubs with business and don’t take shameful advantage, otherwise we will all lose them. Sermon over , regards to all.

Great village pub spoilt only by the owner/manager who was oddly rude and abrasive. Food was great and the facilities made this a good pit stop if you’re rambling.

Was great food, lovely atmosphere however, the guy with glasses behind the bar was very rude and a bit obnoxious. Was really disappointed as it’s such a lovely pub!

I love this pub and have been a few times for drinks with friends. It’s a nice cozy pub in the countryside with an open fire. All the staff are so friendly, especially the South African bar man. He is always so nice and polite and attentive to our needs. He really is an asset to the pub. Highly recommend this pub for an evening drink.

We eat at the Black Horse very regularly, more importantly we recommend it to the guests in our Holiday Cottage. Everyone of the absolutely love it, two sets of guests are actually comming back just to go there for supper. It is, unashamedly pub food, nothing pretensious, just good honest food. They are, also, great at catering for food allergies, which is very important. In my opinion their gluten free fish and chips cannot be beaten. Dogs and children are also welcomed

Beer good, steak really good, slow cooked duck very fatty & poor. Never offered any desserts. Nice old world village but minimal parking.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to taste the food here as the manager was extremely unpleasant, rude and passive aggressive. I feel sorry for the lovely colleague having to work with him! Quiet an awkward vibe with no cosy character. Definitely go to the pubs in guiting power 10 mins down the road over this for a much better experience

Hubby and I thought we would try the pub down the road from our Air BNB. Would strongly advise against it. Rude, grotty pub with staff who DRINK whilst serving you. Obnoxiously loud barman and dirty looking cook

First visit was 15 years ago, it was great then and is still great now. Good food, atmosphere and service. A lovely experience even on a wet and dark December day.

What a lovely pub/restaurant - was on holiday in Naunton so strolled down on our first night with our dog for drinks. Decided we would return for food on another evening. Landlord was so friendly and welcoming and even brought some lamb over for our dog. Food was delicious and very well priced and a good selection to choose from.

Lovely village setting, Excellent meal had steak was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Service was also very good

Disappointing. We walked along the Windrush Way from Bourton on the Water and arrived at 2.45 on Sunday 20th. Website is under construction and FB posts limited so we knew we were taking a risk on lunch. We arrived and food was still being served in the pub garden but my husband was told that the kitchen was closed. He asked if they had cloudy or traditional lemonade and was told lemonade was from a siphon and was ‘real’. The customer in front of my husband was subjected to a similar lack of hospitality - asking for bread. The barman reviewed the order in detail and told the customer that his order didn’t include bread. It was only when the customer explained he was looking to buy a side of bread did the barman’s attitude change. The dog bowls left out for dogs were filthy. The other female member of staff was far nicer.

Came here for my sisters birthday with family including 5 children. Looked after very well by Stella. Food was delicious and service impeccable. Even my baby was given small cutlery something a lot of places just don’t do! Everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks so much. Highly recommend

A perfect Cotswolds pub - and just what we have been searching for. While other pubs around Stow on the Wold have turned into expensive restaurants (all with similar, expensive gastro menus), The Black Horse remains a proper, honest pub - with a back bar filled with happy young - and a small dining area in the front bar, where we ate. Really excellent service - and honest pub food (nb very generous servings) at sensible prices. We had whitebait; mushrooms on toast; salmon + prawn salad; chicken + avocado salad; goats cheese salad - all good. Really thoughtful staff (eg they turned the musack off without us asking for this to be done - so 5 stars for this). We will be back..

Excellent service, a nice menu and most importantly… wonderful food. We all ordered differently and each was absolutely lovely. A really first class experience.

Great pub in the middle of this beautiful village. The food is exactly what you want - good pub food - but what makes it special and stand out, are the staff. Friendly, professional, efficient, nothing too much trouble, just really lovely people doing what they love. They go out of their way to help - we came for my partner's birthday, with a cake, but forgot the candles - they stepped in with a dinner candle which looked great but also decorated the plate that they served the cake on with strawberries and chocolate - a fab touch. Thank you!

After several attempts calling the pub and waiting for a call back (which never came) I finally managed to buy a voucher for my parents wedding anniversary dinner who were visiting the area. There was money left over from the dinner and I was called and told it could be refunded to me. After a couple of attempts at refunding I was told it wasn’t possible on the new card machine they had and I would receive a phone call to transfer the money back into my account…surprise surprise the call never came!! I phoned and was told they were busy and would phone back the next day and arrange the refund..guess what..no phone call!! Awful customer service, the only staff member that I spoke to that seemed to genuinely care about customer service was Ash who couldn’t have been more professional. We pass through this way at various times throughout the year but certainly would not now go there due to the very poor customer service.
