Had a really nice evening in this small restaurant in a great setting. Host very friendly and nothing too much trouble.

I can’t believe that i was eating in the Royal Oak, as we have eaten there before. I opted for the lamb shank at £24.50, what the hell…. This shank came out over nuked, was so overcooked it was crunchy and had almost shrivelled up to nothing.. I buy these same shanks in supermarkets so know exactly the cost of these along with the correct cooking instructions. I opted for veg and dauphinois potato and that unfortunately meant that because other members of group also ordered veg and dauphinois, these tiny round serving dishes came out and then we was told that was all ours to share.. honest to god it was a few lumps of cauliflower and red cabbage, not even enough to justify £24.50, for one serving.. I truly walked out of there feeling like i had been seen off. It’s such a shame that nowadays its so expensive to go out for a treat.. And i am aware of the cost of things and how they’ve gone up but i think its now overkill with some places.

Went here for lunch with a couple of friends last month. I had the quiche & chips for lunch. The food was nice but sadly let down by the stingyest portion sizes. There were no more than about 8 chips on the plate, the coleslaw was in the tinyest pot you've ever seen (so very little). The side salad on the plate was poor. it consisted of just a few small peices of iceberg lettuice - no salad dressing or anything. The quiche was quite small too. I can honestly say i was disappointed with the food portion size and at £11 felt it wasn't worth the money. I went home still hungry. Sad to say, i will be giving it a miss from now on.

The Plume gave us a warm friendly welcome after our long drive down from Yorkshire. We stayed for 6 wonderful nights. The rooms are spacious, spotless and well layed out - perfect for me, my wife and our two dogs. The walk in monsoon shower was perfect for my wife who has mobility issues ( they even placed in a chair for the shower - how thoughtful.) The food is first class, the hearty breakfast and evening meals were amazing - compliments to the chef. Some rooms are dog friendly and the beautiful country pub with open fires is a perfect way to put your feet up and relax. All the staff were so attentive, warm and friendly - from the reception team, the bar staff, the kitchen staff, waiters and waitresses and the cleaning team too. Loved the fact if you don’t need your room cleaned you get a £5 voucher from the bar. The team make you feel so special, and the dogs are pampered too with welcome packs, bowls, beds and sausages for breakfast. The pub is perfectly situated meaning you can pretty much access all of Cornwall and South Devon within an hour’s drive (and there’s lots to explore). A real bonus is free charging for EV cars! The pub definitely aims to protect the environment. We also visited the “sister pub” in Newquay which is more modern but has amazing views (to be honest the teams at both pubs are outstanding and so accommodating). We’ll definitely be back! Thank you so much for looking after us.

Went for Sunday lunch for 8 of our family. Ordered 4 lamb and 4 beef roasts, 6 lamb came and 2 beef. The meat was that bad we couldn’t tell the difference between what meat was which. Booked for 1:30 but told we had to come at 1:15 because that’s the only time they had available but when we arrived there were only 2 other tables seated. Used to be really lovely but something has gone really wrong!
