We often go to either Odiham or Churt for a roast dinner so I took a gamble and decided to book it for our family Boxing Day. I usually cook but wanted a break however was slightly nervous about what it would be like. There were some highs and lows. Negatives The booking process took quite a long time, over a number of weeks. I was had put in orders for the 3 children in our group but then could not add these to the pre booking system, but was told I could order on the day for them. Which was fine, but I was also not told that the roast I had requested would not be available……even though they were cooking roast turkey. Had I known I would’ve ordered the set menu for my young teen. I wouldn’t say it was that busy in the restaurant and the staff were often waiting around, but service was slow and relatively inattentive. The starter was totally underwhelming. No cucumber. 4 prawns and a bit of iceberg lettuce for the prawn starter. The main was ok but was essentially a slab of turkey and stuffing, one half parsnip, one half carrot, some Brussels sprouts, one pig in blanket. Dessert was a bit the same. One Xmas pudding came out cold and one lukewarm warm. The Black Forest option was essentially chocolate log, a Black Forest juice and some mushed up fruit. The kids all ended up with chicken goujons but they’d run out of ketchup. They did go and get it in the end but we’d asked 4 times by this point. I feel we had a bit of the morning after the night before. Positives There were 13 of us and having friends in the service industry and I know this is a bit of a mare and I think despite not feeling that well looked after everyone got their dinners. Because of the slab of turkey the main course was filling, and the members who ordered non turkey options such as the mushroom ravioli and stonebass all enjoyed it. There was a problem with another table (the diners fault) and I could see how professionally the staff handled it.

I had a good meal with a traditional prwn cocktail and avocado starter and a halibut fillet sitting on a home made mash potato with asparagus. The criticism would be the small quantity of fish for a 25.95GBP dish.

On a busy pre-Christmas night, we had excellent service and food, which are under your control, but also the ambience was great. Very good Christmas menu. It all looked beautifully festive. All our group of 9 really enjoyed the whole evening. Wee done!

This restaurant really needs to determine its demographic. While the food was sublime the restaurant was packed and I mean packed with children. We asked to be moved three times before finding a semi-quiet table. It was like attending a creche. This is fine if you are paying for a chain restaurant but not for a restaurant that purports fine dining. It's not only the food but the ambience that counts. This could all be rectified by having a family restaurant and one for adults. Service was slow initially too. Had to wait 30 minutes for a cocktail although we were offerred some "bubbles" as the staff recognised the delay. We were told by staff that the hotel aims for kids at the weekend so sadly we will now avoid but as I said earlier the food was wonderful but sadly overshadowed by the kids.

My wife and I met my sister for our annual Christmas lunch at the Waterwitch which we do every year, sometimes more than once a year. We were seated in a very good location overlooking the front car park and the service was excellent.
