The best restaurants serving British food in Sunderland North East

We only stumbled upon this little gem recently, but it has become one of our absolute favourites! Especially for a spot of lunch. The cafe does real home cooked foods, from beautiful sunday roasts to an amazing chilli con carne. And don't even get me started on the home-made chips! The nostaglia this place makes you feel every - single - time is amazing. Anyone remember Dave's Cafe that was in sunderland town? Just a little cafe, nothing fancy, you got your cheesy chips and pop while your nana played on the slots after her 13th cup of coffee. Although there is no arcade, this place gives you full Daves Cafe vibes! Cheap and cheerful, with delicous food everytime. And a welcoming, friendly team of staff to top it all off! A point to add, I am currently pregnant and the staff have been amazing constantly allocating for all of my little craving whims! For the price, roughly £5-6 for a full meal, you CANNOT beat Taste Buds!

Friendly staff and lovely home -cooked Sunday lunch. Chicken dinner is spot on...lovely meat and veg plus Yorkshire puds. Get plenty!! Laura and Julie are really nice laases. Keep up the good work!!

great food just what I needed!

I LOVE the Dean wrap! Grilled chicken, cheese,lettuce, ranch dressing on a spinach wrap. Went at noin, super busy..but got meal in about 15 minutes. 50s style..Marilyn Monroe..but super tight.

The welcome was so nice and seated straight away. My wife was feeling warm and the lovely actions of the servers were really appreciated. We just fancied a sandwich but boy WHAT A SANDWICH. Beef was an inch thick and the prawns were falling out of my wife’s sandwich. Big thick proper chips and vinegar and this was again a lovely meal. Been her a few times now and never disappointed. To top it off was a fantastic pint of Coors. Prices are what they are these days but we will be back and this time I think I’ll have the panacalty.

Amazing service from Caity and so intelligent about the local area around the oasis Washington. Made me feel so welcoming and wanted to stay longer. Staff like this I can see why it’s always busy. This young lady should definitely be promoted to manager in the future. What an acceptance and I’ve told many friends about this establishment. Way better than being served at other big name chains.

Just popped in for a Sunday lunch and received it very quick, Yorkshire pudding was very hard and a bit burnt , the parsnip was so hard I couldn’t even put the knife in to cut it and the meat was thinly sliced which was quite bland. The beer was go though.

Was here recently for drinks with son and grandson and the food and service was very good atmosphere nice and frienly,be going bavk again definately.😊

Stacey is amazing in the soft play area. Food amazing. No problems at all. Kids enjoyed there self’s and we will be back soon, thank you

I eat here often as i work locally. I find the choice of food to be varied and look forward to the welcoming smile of the Owners/Staff. I believe this is the best 'Sandwich Shop' in Sunderland and would highly recommend.

Haven't been for a while and won't be going back. So much has changed. Had carbonara which was always lovely. Not so nice this time. Staff very attentive. Crying kids and loud families. This was too much for me

Pensaba que las cenas escolares eran malas, pero este lugar es el peor en el que he comido. Visitamos con la familia para el almuerzo del domingo gran error. Estábamos sentados no muy lejos del microondas, que oímos pingar cada pocos minutos, entonces se sirvió la comida, la comida debe ser emplatada y recalentada, la verdura estaba prácticamente cruda, en cuanto a los asados (patatas) bien, estos eran duros como roca u podría hacer algún daño grave con estos. No hay restaurante o carvery que he comido en puede hacer un asado tan bueno como en casa, un asado casero recién cocinado es mucho mejor y más barato Definitivamente no volveré.
