Pier Fish and Chips in Sunderland

Had fish, chips, and mushy peas here yesterday. All three were VERY good, especially the mushy peas, which especially stood out compared to many other places. The only thing I would improve in this establishment is the quality of the sea view - I would either replace the brick wall with strong glass or elevate the seating to see over the brick wall.

Me and my husband come here for fish and chips every time we visit Roker, it’s in a nice spot by the beach and pier and also has a seating area with shelter if the weather turns! What we love the best is that they offer small fish and chips as we can’t eat a full size. Don’t think anyone else does that nearby. Thanks!!

Really tasty fresh cooked food. Lovely chatty staff and clean premises. We are from Stockton, but will be back.

Best Fish and Chips in the North East.

It's a nice little place by the beach, but a wee bit pricey for what you get. We got a cod and chips for almost £11. The fish was nice but not so much the fries. The chicken breast burger was ok. For £4.30 you get the bun, meat and either ketchup or mayo. There's no salad. That's double the price it should be. The staff was wonderful and friendly.

I thought the service was a little slow but once we had our food everything was fine. The enclosed seating area is great for nice weather and there some beach hut style shelters for use should you so choose. Portions were large and the food properly cooked and presented.

Nice fresh fish chips done perfect would recommend. Don't know whats happened to Downeys went right back.

Maybe it was just my experience, but the haddock was extremely greasy, to the point I had to take off half the breading. It was served in a box with nothing to absorb the grease, so it just turned mushy. The service was great, though!

Been here before but it's definitely gone downhill, the chips were awful even the seagulls turned their noses up. The staff are unfriendly, if you want better service and better food go to the one adjacent to it

Love the fish and chips, had to be one of the best in the north east. Started coming here just before lockdown and it's a firm favourite for the family, we drive 30 minutes to get here but it's well worth the trip. 5 star's

Regular fish and chips. Dogs are allowed inside, however there’s not much room. If you sit outside there are cute huts to sit in, great on rainy or windy days, but also a lot of tables with the sea view 😊 reasonably priced as well

Rude owner! Even though we bought food from here we were kicked out by the rude owner from outside due to my friend having food else we’re i understand we didn’t see the sign at the front and why he may have been upset but the way we were spoken too as paying customers was horrendous wasn’t any need for it! never coming back here again terrible service

First came here, in June this year after visiting friends. We were so pleased, that we’ve were there yesterday. So we knew that we liked the food ( cooked fresh to order) so we returned Yes it’s perfect, friendly helpful staff, everywhere is spotless There’s tables inside too so you can eat inside. It’s such ashame it’s not our local chippy as we live in Birmingham But Highly recommend See you Again Soon

Wonderful fish and chips. Very large portions. Best I've had in England so far. Also very friendly service. Highly recommend. And being on the beach is a big plus.

Had a daily offer, Haddock and chips, fantastic. I can't remember at wich time I got this size, it must be lots of ages ago. I can only recommend this fish and chips business when you stay at Roker. It's not anly that, a fantastic beach and a great atmosphere at the Seafront. For the Party goers is everything there. I will be back in time.

If me & the son ride to the beach we always pop in here for some chips, take them round the back of the shop & sit in the beach huts, nice touch if its raining. 🙂

Best chippy by far proper seaside chippy

Went to beach and decided to eat her. Its very nice little shop. Loved the fish and curry/chips & mushy peas. My Mam & Daughter both had curry n chips and the bairn also had sausage and eat the lot 😋 Would totally recommend 👌 Staff are lush super helpful.

My daughter is coeliac so we asked about gluten free. Ignorant staff member replied they only served “gluten four”. The food purchased for the rest of us was very mediocre.

Ten out of ten! Despite gloomy weather we sat outside on the pier to eat. I am Coeliac, and this was the only place in Southwold offering Gluten free fish and chips. I have to say, it was THE best I have had since diagnosis. The young man with the beard cooked my plaice, checking everything was ok, and the batter was thin and very crispy. I just wish we lived closer than 3 hour drive!

The staff were great but the fish was bland. I know theres a rule about salt but that was a total let down

Hours stood in queue and nothing! ridic wait. Not anywhere near being served. Queue not moving! No food coming out. Stupidly slow service. Don't bother you never get served 2 hrs wait about 10 people in front queue not moved.! I gv up! No food coming out at all!!

Terrible.. Waited an hour to even get served. Staff like snails no urgency and food stone cold.

This is my go to fish and chip shop when in roker. Its great for colder months as you can sit with dog round back. Staff are always friendly. And great value cod and chips.

The fish and chips deal with hot drink is great Value. Highly recommended and was cooked to perfection. Just walked from spires bridge after dropping car off for Mot and it was well worth the walk . Heads up order your sauce with meal unless you have cash . Definitely going back . Awesome value excellent meal . Staff were polite and very cheerful. . Sitting outback in the huts is cool too. Dont take my word for it . Well worth a visit .

Absolutely love this place! Mrs and I have been a few times and we love the food. The chips are specially fried, I think they cook them twice or something but whatever they do they're gorgeous! If the weather is bad don't worry, you can sit inside but we recommend sitting in one of the huts outside! Lovely place, best chippy in the area.

Was going to sit in their outdoor area but there was blue tape across the entrance so wasn't sure if it was open. Before we ordered our food we asked the girl behind the counter if it was open and she just said "don't know, ask him" pointing to a young lad. We asked him and he said "don't know" before walking outside. We assumed he was going to find out so we stood and waited. After a few minutes of been ignored we went outside to find him messing about with the salt and vinegar bottles with no intention of coming back to us. We asked him again and he just said "no" even though there was a family sat out there. We left and had some very nice fish and chips at Queens Cafe in Seaburn. Avoid this place and spend your money where customers are welcome.

Used to be loverly fish and chips but they're never open when they say they are last 4 time we've been surpose to be open and they were closed we called at 5pm

Typical seaside fish and chips. Clean kitchen and cheap. Good scampi and fried fish. Chips, however, could be better. They were on the soggier side. You will need to buy your ketchup and mayo, each costing 50p. No indoor seating but plenty outside to enjoy the sun with 4 huts. However, the outdoor seating will be an issue when it's raining, but I suppose you would not go to the beach when it's pouring and cold.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips. Prices seemed a bit steep to begin with, so we ordered the small cod and chips and this proved to be more than enough. In fact my son couldn’t finish his, and my in-laws shared a portion. My other son really enjoyed having a battered sausage for the first time. I tried a bit and it was lovely. So moist inside but lovely and golden on the outside. I had to wait about 10 mins for my order, so they gave me free peas and curry sauce without me even mentioning the wait. I thought this was a very nice touch and shows they are attentive. You put your own salt and vinegar on which I much preferred. And they give you wooden forks with every order, without you having to ask!! Our fish and chips went down a treat with kids and adults alike. Will definitely be returning when we are next up in this area.

Awful tasteless tiny luke warm portions

Our family came down to the beach we bought some ice creams from Rosa gelato and 3 out of 4 of us wanted pier fish n chips. 1 of our family members said get a seat and he will order. he ordered our food while the rest of us sat on a bench waiting. We were quickly approached by a horrible blonde staff member who rudely stated we couldn't sit there. I asked why she said you can't eat your food here we said we have ordered sausage n chips n waiting for them. She then said we'll how ya managed that then ahe was being really rude and cocky. I stated well one of our family is getting them. The woman then went oh aye OK. I stated her attitude stunk and shouldn't abuse customers. This place needs a serious talking to for customer service how dare they speak to customers like that.

The smallest and flattest portion of "large" cod I ever had. A total rip off! Very disappointing experience. You'll be better off somewhere else.

Perfectly cooked white flakes of cod, and the batter was delicious, golden, crispy and not dripping in oil, chips were firm and fluffy. Definitely one of the better fish and chip shops left. If you're a bit of a fish and chip connoisseur this one is a must! Prices are very reasonable and there is a large outside seating area overlooking the bay..... well worth a visit.

We tried to visit 20th May 2022 after reading all the excellent reviews on tripadvisor. After walking all the way around the building as it wasn't clear where the entrance was, we wandered through to the back to be told by the men busy painting the gates that it was closed. All the paintwork looks lovely and fresh, but not sure when it is due to open back up?

We love this place the food is brilliant double cooked chips are lovely well worth going here for something to eat the best Fish & Chips in Roker.

Outstanding fish &chips also had the crab cakes.. beauuutiful.. great location and friendly welcoming staff. Prices are very reasonable as it’s not just fish and chips it the experience.

Really dry and I mean realllllly dry chips.. I'm not sure if they are always like that but I'm not willing to find out I will go to the other one .. always nice Sausage was OK though and it's a nice looking place with good outdoor area for sitting.

Nice takeaway. Small fish and chips for £4. What's not to like. The fish was coated in a light crispy batter and the chips weren't at all greasy.

Spot on, the shelters out back are a nice touch to get out of the wind. The food was all fresh and red hot. Only criticism was that the batter on my fish was a little too greasy for my liking but I am a little fussy about that so it's my problem. Everyone else loved theirs. Would recommend.

All the times we have been to roker for some reason this little gem has evaded us but never again we got small cod and chips each at only £4 per portion and it's not small it's a decent size fish and chips and the quality is excellent lovely and fresh and hot not too greasy and very busy on a week day that's always a good sign and the all served with a smile from the lady serving for me I give this plaice 10/10 well done and thanks for keeping your prices low and quality high it's very refreshing to see

My partner and myself have a special place in our hearts for this chip shop. It's where we spend anniversaries and birthdays. The food is unsurpassed each and every time and the staff are fabulous. All tables are outdoors although there are some cute little huts if the weather isn't playing ball.

Ordered food waited 25mins on asking they had not done it, server said he shouted. Told him hadn't I had waited in shop all the time. Plus if he had shouted why did the lady say it hadn't been done. ???? Apart from that the food was good.

Always thoroughly enjoy the food from this place. Wait times can be on the long side but to be expected due to constant queues out the door.

Been twice before to this fish restaurant. Today we had the chilli prawns and chips at just under £5.what a bargain. We had 5 large King prawns done in a very thin batter with a small carton of chilli sauce and quite a rew chips too. They were absolutely delicious. The prawns were done too perfection and tasted beautiful and moist under the thin batter. Chips were twice cooked and crispy outside and fluffy in the middle. You have to try the food here it's brilliant and the prices are amazing. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and advise people to give them a try. We live around 7 miles away but now we will always go to this place for our lunch or dinner. We'll done pier fish restaurant.

The fish and chips are amazing! Not oily, fresh crispy, soft to eat and abundant! £6.85 is a great price as well plus you get to eat it right beside the sea!

Have tasted better fish and chips, but they were OK. The thing is, living in Yorkshire we have some of the best fish and chip shops
