Pier Fish and Chips in Sunderland

First came here, in June this year after visiting friends. We were so pleased, that we’ve were there yesterday. So we knew that we liked the food ( cooked fresh to order) so we returned Yes it’s perfect, friendly helpful staff, everywhere is spotless There’s tables inside too so you can eat inside. It’s such ashame it’s not our local chippy as we live in Birmingham But Highly recommend See you Again Soon

My daughter is coeliac so we asked about gluten free. Ignorant staff member replied they only served “gluten four”. The food purchased for the rest of us was very mediocre.

Fabulous light battered, fresh fish. Chips and mushy peas... let me talk about the mushy peas... peppery, tasty and just amazing... All while sat outside in a cute little hut. We will be back.

Ten out of ten! Despite gloomy weather we sat outside on the pier to eat. I am Coeliac, and this was the only place in Southwold offering Gluten free fish and chips. I have to say, it was THE best I have had since diagnosis. The young man with the beard cooked my plaice, checking everything was ok, and the batter was thin and very crispy. I just wish we lived closer than 3 hour drive!

The fish and chips deal with hot drink is great Value. Highly recommended and was cooked to perfection. Just walked from spires bridge after dropping car off for Mot and it was well worth the walk . Heads up order your sauce with meal unless you have cash . Definitely going back . Awesome value excellent meal . Staff were polite and very cheerful. . Sitting outback in the huts is cool too. Dont take my word for it . Well worth a visit .

Was going to sit in their outdoor area but there was blue tape across the entrance so wasn't sure if it was open. Before we ordered our food we asked the girl behind the counter if it was open and she just said "don't know, ask him" pointing to a young lad. We asked him and he said "don't know" before walking outside. We assumed he was going to find out so we stood and waited. After a few minutes of been ignored we went outside to find him messing about with the salt and vinegar bottles with no intention of coming back to us. We asked him again and he just said "no" even though there was a family sat out there. We left and had some very nice fish and chips at Queens Cafe in Seaburn. Avoid this place and spend your money where customers are welcome.

Dont waste your money.I know times are hard but the fish was sooo thin and tastleless.chips awful.Luke warm.Never again.

Our family came down to the beach we bought some ice creams from Rosa gelato and 3 out of 4 of us wanted pier fish n chips. 1 of our family members said get a seat and he will order. he ordered our food while the rest of us sat on a bench waiting. We were quickly approached by a horrible blonde staff member who rudely stated we couldn't sit there. I asked why she said you can't eat your food here we said we have ordered sausage n chips n waiting for them. She then said we'll how ya managed that then ahe was being really rude and cocky. I stated well one of our family is getting them. The woman then went oh aye OK. I stated her attitude stunk and shouldn't abuse customers. This place needs a serious talking to for customer service how dare they speak to customers like that.

We tried to visit 20th May 2022 after reading all the excellent reviews on tripadvisor. After walking all the way around the building as it wasn't clear where the entrance was, we wandered through to the back to be told by the men busy painting the gates that it was closed. All the paintwork looks lovely and fresh, but not sure when it is due to open back up?

My partner and myself have a special place in our hearts for this chip shop. It's where we spend anniversaries and birthdays. The food is unsurpassed each and every time and the staff are fabulous. All tables are outdoors although there are some cute little huts if the weather isn't playing ball.

Been twice before to this fish restaurant. Today we had the chilli prawns and chips at just under £5.what a bargain. We had 5 large King prawns done in a very thin batter with a small carton of chilli sauce and quite a rew chips too. They were absolutely delicious. The prawns were done too perfection and tasted beautiful and moist under the thin batter. Chips were twice cooked and crispy outside and fluffy in the middle. You have to try the food here it's brilliant and the prices are amazing. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and advise people to give them a try. We live around 7 miles away but now we will always go to this place for our lunch or dinner. We'll done pier fish restaurant.

The secret to good fish fried is batter. The batter here needs much work. Fries were soggy. We hated it.

Out for a stroll and needed some food. Popped in here and had fish and chips. Wife had Thai fish cake and chips. Both were lovely. Coffee was only instant, but OK.

Weve been past Pier Fish and Chips on a number of our walks around Whitburn, Seaburn and Roker but this was our first time calling in for a meal but it will not be our last. We had one small Fish and Chips and one King Prawns in Batter with Chips and garlic both exceeded expectations but the King Prawns was outstanding and great value at £4.95. The coffee's are also very good. Currently you can sit on a number of benches outside which are socially distanced due to Covid19 regulations. Congratulations to all involved in this establishment.

Just dropped by recently on a very rare visit to Roker and spotted this venue as we looked to park up. A fairly impromptu decision was taken to end the outing to the coast here. Opted for the small fish and chips and we couldn’t have been more impressed. Good quality, quick service and fantastic value! Definitely recommend.

Excellent. On a busy bank holiday Monday the fish and chips were delicious and the service was great.

Visited for take away chips. The quality was very poor and the service brusque. I would certainly avoid this place when there are so many better options nearby.

Excellent gluten free fish and chips. Also did battered sausage, the batter was excellent. Chips weren’t greasy. Had a good variety on the menu including king prawns which dad had and said they were delicious.

Discovered pier fish and chips last year when my son and I visited the airshow and was bowled over by the service and extra ‘we bit batter’ we received. We live in Gt Sutton Nr Chester and fancied fish and chips by the seaside again this time bringing my wife the 170 miles to get here. Picked a good day as it was dry and sunny, there was queuing due to the current climate which was expected ,however it’s in and out the same door which defeats the object. When in we gave our order and stood aside to await delivery but had to ask twice for the ‘wee bit batter’ I thought was the norm here. In the meantime a lady was shouting ‘NEXT’ to bring in the next customer. Batter,chips were fine but the fish didn’t stand out and was average at best. I also had to run back along the promenade to pick up the curry sauce that was left off the order. I felt a little let down after telling my wife about the little gem I thought I’d found last year.

We were glad to stumble across this chippy as they cook in Vegetable oil and not FAT the batter was crispy the chips were perfectly cooked and the fish was beautiful and white there was no aftertaste like you get when the fish and chips are cooked in dripping place was spotless and the staff very friendly by far the best chippy i have been in in Sunderland

Lovely cheerful staff and quality fish and chips and the social distancing was spot on would definitely recommend value for money four fussy grandchildren and three adults all enjoyed our take out .

Have to agree with the other reviewer who compared them to Coleman's. No need to go all the way to shields anymore! Staff were lovely too!

It's become something of a family tradition for us now, when visiting Sunderland, to stop off at Roker, take a walk along the promenade and enjoy fish and chips here in one of their huts outside the back. Right next to Roker pier, it's extremely well located and well, perhaps fish and chips does taste better by the sea, but the fish here always tastes fresh, the batter crispy and the chips chunky.Excellent prices too.

You've got tot look a bit for this fish shop as the seated area is virtually on the north pier. food is freshly cooked and portions are first class, the seating area contains small huts where you can shelter from the wind and rain , facilities for children are also in this area, a must not to miss

Once again excellent fish and chips, real good quality/price with also quick service. On a lovely autumn day on this wonderful seafront setting i would recommend a visit to everyone.

I'm not a great fish and chip eater but every soften I get the urge and normally pop through to South Shields where Colemans do the best ever food. I've tried the one opposite Pier fish and chips and didn't like the after taste, (cooked in dripping). I thought I'd try the Pier and was pleased to find I no longer have to travel to Colemans. The Pier offers a lovely meal at a fair price. I find I'm eating them a little more than usual now, they are so nice. The staff are lovely too, always happy to chat to customers. Highly recommended

Today was out first visit, it will certainly not be our last. The food is exceptional and the portion size is amazing. My husband and I both has small cod and chips, and we couldn't finish it all, and the fish was absolutley beautiful.I would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious bite to eat. You have a choice of where to sit from inside to outside at a picnic table or in a beach hut...fab idea. I could of stayed there all day. Last but most definitely not least, the whole experience was made better by the amazing service we received from Laurin, talk about a breath of fresh air, from the minute we walked in she was so friendly, Very much a people person with very good customer service skills. Looking forward to my next visit already!!

We went here for fish and chips and were really pleased with the food,service, and seating, the fish and chips were cooked in oil and were very tasty,clean and very enjoyable, will go again.

Lovely fresh cod with crisp batter, and gorgeous chips. Big outdoor seating area, although kids were running riot on the little toy car things. Also could do with a toilet as it's a fairly long walk with a little one to the nearest loos.

Stopped for lunch after a tour of the pier and a walk up to Seaburn. Ordered two Thai fish cakes and chips and ate in the area out back. We were offered battered bits - not something I'm familiar with - turns out they are the little bits of batter that come off in the fryer when cooking fish. They are yummy, if you are from further south than Sunderland you may know them as scraps and if you come from anywhere near the Thames (as I do) you'll have never seen or heard of them. The staff are polite, helpful and the shop is spotlessly clean. Would stop there again if we were visiting the area

It was our first visit to Roker beach and it was a lovely sunny afternoon so we decided to have fish and chips by the sea. It’s something we cannot resist!There are several choices but we picked this place as it as seating with a sea view. The service was friendly, polite and efficient. We both had cod & chips, one with scraps. We sat outside and enjoyed deliciously tender and fresh fish with crispy double cooked chips. We finished off with an ice cream from a place just across from here. Perfect!

I called in for fish and chips at this lovely café and takeaway on the seafront. There was a good choice of fish and I opted for cod which was sparklingly fresh and cooked while I waited. It was excellent with a beautiful, light and crisp batter. Chips were also excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly and it was very reasonably priced. There are a couple of tables inside and a large, colourful outside seating area. Lovely décor and absolutely spotless. Highly recommended! I will be back.

Pickedup up some battered sea bass and chips on Thursday and we were delighted with the fish: fresh and lovely thin crispy batter. chips were good but nothing special, certainly not twice cooked as one of the sign seem to suggest. For under £6, very very good value for money. The shop itself is spotless and pleasant. We did not settle outside in the garden but it did look fun.

As the Managing Director of Astralis Airstreams LTD a Sunderland based mobile catering company I have never encountered such a hostile display of belligerent arrogant and patronising behaviour than the reception I received tonight from the management of this establishment who blatantly and falsely accused me of consuming alcohol on their premises. So unless I receive a full retraction of that accusation I will instigate legal action against the management of that establishment and I strongly urge anyone considering dinning at this restaurant to boycott this substandard establishment. I would also like to take this oppertunity to thank the staff for their courteous and friendly attitude towards customers which is the only redeeming quality that bellies the obnoxious attitude displayed by the management towards customers of this establishment bearing in mind there are far better fish and chip shops in close proximity. Lovely day for walking along the pier, stopped here for fish and chips. Good value for money, and it was lovely sitting outside.

Probably the best fish and chips we have enjoyed in many years. Far better than Downeys over the road and significantly cheaper. Great service and lovely surroundings. We will be back without a doubt.

My wife and I go to this chip shop as part of our weekly walk and I have to say the quality of the food is fantastic and the cleanliness of the shop and surrounding area is exceptional. Every time we go to this shop the staff are always busy working or cleaning and the guy who I think is the owner never stops doing little jobs around the place such as bins or touching up paint etc. An exceptional little business, well done to all involved and keep it up !!

Well what a hidden gem this place is . We had fish and chips here one night whilst out walking and they were fabulous!!. Freshly cooked fish while you wait and they do a small fish and chips! which is enough for me. We sat around the rear of the shop were there's a lovely large seating area. The place is very clean and I wouldn't hesitate in calling in again.
