We booked to have Sunday Lunch here last week with our extended family. We had looked at the menu online, and thought it covered all bases and was a reasonable price. When we arrived we asked for a menu but was told that there was only Sunday lunch available - beef, pork, turkey or vegetarian - served with mashed swede, undercooked carrots and strange tasting turnip. Vegetarian turned out to be just vegetables snd mashed potato - but we were still charged full price. Deserts were mixed - the brownie was so stale and hard it was inedible. When we came to pay we were charged £11.99 each, plus £4.99 for a desert. When we showed them their website offering 2 courses for £10.95 they just shrugged and said they have nothing to do with that. At no point in time were we shown the new prices. Overall a poor quality meal at an inflated price. We won’t be back.

We stayed at the Albion for one night, after attending a wedding nearby. The owners were extremely attentive yet discreet and allowed us such a flexible check in, which was a huge help. The accommodation is well appointed and extremely clean. We ate in the restaurant on our return which was really good quality. All of the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Such a lovely touch to be offered freshly picked mint for tea and an invitation to relax in the owners private garden whilst enjoying this before we set off on our journey. The following morning

Ive passed here numerous times on the way to work & keep meaning to give it a try, Ive only lived on the darkside of the water (Sunlun) for a couple of years & my Mrs always says this was a bit rough. Couldnt be further from the truth. Met immediately by the smiling friendly owner which matched the lovely telephone greeting from his wife/partner earlier when I had booked. A sunny Bank Holiday Monday 7 a BBQ was in the offing in the front garden area, It smelled and looked divine. My Mrs had the BBQ with feta salad and a garlic bread/cheese tomato, I plumped for the belly pork, both were stunning. The owner even insisted we had a look at the glorious huge beer garden at the rear. Superb value for money, great service & brill grub. Cant wait to visit again

Went to The Albion with my partner and his nana as a trip out for her birthday. When we arrived we were given a menu that looked like it had been scrunched into a ball and flattened out then stuck to a board with bluetac. The menu itself was hard to understand. It stated ‘chicken’ for £13.50 but didn’t state what it came with or what was on the chicken. It stated ‘dirty parmo’ but, again, didn’t state what this was. Basically the menu stated one item that will feature on the plate and you had to guess what the rest was unless you wanted to go through the full menu with the waitress. The menu featured approx. 7 meals but I settled for fish and chips. The meal arrived and it was white battered fish that showed black sections of the fish, which I didn’t understand but still attempted to eat it. After a few bites I gave up because it was chewy and tasteless. Soon after one of the 50000 flies zooming around landed on my plate so that added a little special topping to an already hideous dish. When the food was collected my partner kindly said that ‘I think we got a bad fish with this one’ not really expecting anything but just because there was a full fish left on the plate so it would have been awkward if nothing was said. The woman came back from the kitchen and said ‘we’ve had a few fishes go out tonight and they were all fine but we can offer you a free dessert’. This was strange as we were the first people in the restaurant that night (a Friday and they hadn’t been open the previous three days) but I appreciated the offer for the dessert. The dessert came and it was a slab of plain chocolate cake with a flavourless ice cream topped with another fly. When waiting for the bill, a woman asked the waitress for gammon and the woman said ‘yeah I’ll put you one in hun’ which infuriated me because I was given a menu of basically nothing and now they’re taking requests. Won’t be going back, I think the virus has affected this business which is sad but due to the environment I don’t think it’s ready to reopen for several reasons most of which has been stated above.

Really good value for decent pub grub. I had steak & my Wife had chicken. Both were off the happy hour menu, and came only with chips. Husband I go out for lunch every Sunday and today we decided to try The Albion after reading reviews. We were booked in for 12 noon and as we approached the entrance we were amazed to find it was in need of a good clean and had obviously not been vaccumed for a while. We hope this was not a reflection on the meals.Sadly the quality of the food was not good.poorly cooked veg and hubby said his beef was tough and my pork was tasteless. The Yorkshire puddings were tasty how ever. There was a good deal of 2 courses but we just wanted to leave as the poor food, lack of ambience and awful music being played at a too loud volume bid not encourage us to linger! To be fair perhaps the meals from the menu are good but certainly not the carvery.

I was taken here by friends while visiting and I can see why they like it. We were in time for the early menu and the selection excellent. It is Italian with some wonderful extras. Our dinners arrived presentation very nice veg arrived but NO gravy boat asked if we required any sauces replied with yes please for mint sauce for the gentleman to leave our table stand at bar talking and completely forget about the sauce for us to have to ask again for gravy and mint sauce. 2 desserts ordered which were ok. We booked in advance table and meals as there was a lot of us. I got potato skin with the garlic dip. If you don't like garlic ask for none as its not in pots and just on my plate. They were lovely but the garlic was too strong for one of the guests. I had a lasagna which was lovely personally I couldn't fault it. As they knew it was a birthday meal. They gave the birthday boy a cake and sang which was completely unexpected and very nice of them. The service was amazingly fast maybe because we preorded our food. Would recommend to go but also to book a table as it looked full.

The Albion is a lovely friendly place to dine in the small village of Ryhope, which we have never had before. The food served is delicious, and the great thing about here, is they cater for everyone's pocket. Eat with the children and enjoy a very cost effective price, or dine with a loved one, a delicious romantic meal, with a bottle of wine, still at a very reasonable price. If you haven't tried it already, you must do. The staff will look well after you too. But just be patient, if they are busy. Trust me, when I say it will be worth the wait.

The pub was name checked on the internet to help bird watchers find a rare bird locally. Having travelled over 100 miles and seen the bird we had Saturday lunch at The Albion. It was very quiet inside with a varied menu and special offers, early bird, seniors etc. From the usual pub grub fayre to more exotic sounding dishes with a hint of fine dining about them. This has been my worst experience to date! table booked for 2.15pm did not get sat down till 2.50pm, nowhere to sit to wait and not even greeted on arrival, watched disabled people having to wait around for their tables for 40 mins, then when we eventually got seated took another 40 mins for drinks, which I had to ask for and to be pointed at by(assuming the manager) to wait. When the drinks did arrive some was missed off (another 15 mins later). Then when we eventually had someone to take our food order, then one small dish of vegetables to be shared between 5 was brought out 20 mins before the mains, (which went cold). 'potato' wasn't sure if this was to be eaten or drank, just a swimming mess, then my partner got fish and had a piece of metal in it, which we where advised by (presumed the manager) to be told its off the fishmonger's glove (then advised of a free drink) our reply no we not paying for that meal! I did feel for the young waitresses as they were getting pulled from every angle and only doing what they where told to do. I know its a busy time, but this should have been factored in, I was left really disappointed and let down as I wanted it to be a special time for my family (like everyone) as its not often I can get the majority of my family together in one go, I expected A small wait but not as bad as this, considering we all spending a lot of money, I would have expected better service and decent food, we ended going to a nearby pub to have deserts.

We've had under cooked food but the worst thing is waiting 45 minutes to even get a drink and that was only because we managed to get the attention of a member of staff! Definitely won't go again. It's ruined mother's day for three mothers. The staff had a brawl amongst themselves right by our table in front of my six year old daughter about who had taken the desert order for another table!! Arrived for our meal understanding it's mothers day and busy, took 45 minutes before we even got asked if we wanted drinks which they got wrong so had to reorder which took even longer, then we had an even longer wait for the food which was undercooked, the staff had a full blown argument with each other in front of our 6 year old which was horrendous, their attitude was terrible, you'd ask for something and they'd tut at you and walk away. We then ordered desert which we waited half an hour for, only for them to come back and say they'd ran out of desserts. Inside over 2 hours, had barely any food and what we did get was horrible and undercooked, only had 1 drink because the staff don't come around to ask if you want another. I am a very spoiled German! When I entered the restaurant the first impression was that the room was tidy and clean-which is already unusual. There wasn't the usual smell of old frying oil nor unwashed dishes. The food my team and I ordered (we are a surgery in the Easington area) was British style- very well seasoned and simply delicious. The portion sizes were the kind that we thought the starters were the main meal - I have no idea how they make a profit if I compare the low prizes to the portion size. After the meal the chef took some time to chat with us and I learned that he is even capable of preparing more international food - in his repertoire there is British, German, Greek, Italian, Chinese and Spanish.I will be back with colleagues and the team - maybe for a theme evening ! Best restaurant I have been to in Britain in 44 years!

Very friendly proprietor, however food nothing special, reasonably priced but drinks seem expensive, we chose from two course for £7.95 adding £1.00 for chicken and £3.00 for steak our bill came to £40 including 1 glass of wine 1 coke and 2 g and t (not branded).

I live on the North West coast and a friend took me here for a meal. Now I pretend I drive for over 2 hours to see my friend. In actual fact it's so he can take me to the Albion again! Finest pub food I have ever had. I'm not much of a black pudding fan but the black pudding starter is, I am sure, stolen from the gods of Mount Olympus. Beer is OK too.

We visited The Albion after hearing good reports about the food here. Sunday lunch for two was on the agenda so we decided to venture away from our favourite haunt to try here. On entering, we were pleased to see the seating arrangements meant we weren't sitting on top of other diners, one of my pet hates when visiting a restaurant. I purchased drinks at the bar and thought the pricing was really competitive to what some establishments charge these days. A menu was on our table when sat we down, no need to wait and time to see what was on offer. Two turkey dinners requested, to be told that there was no turkey left. Option two was a beef and pork dinner which promptly arrived at the table. I opted for the pork with crackling, gripe No 1. The crackling wasn't original, more the type you buy in packets under the pseudonym of pork scratching. Damn, I was so looking forward to this. The meat however was very tasty, the veg cooked the way we like it, the Yorkshire pud, soft and tasteless. That's gripe number two out of the way. Main course demolished, we were asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. No mention from the waitress to wether or not we had enjoyed our meals, again a personal gripe, that's three so far! We both opted for the rhubarb and Apple crumble, my optional request to a bemused waitress was, " could I have mine cold with cream instead of custard" Gripe 4 , it arrived warm with custard, the cream quickly arrived after I pointed this out, the warm crumble I mentioned later to be told that she had been told via the kitchen that it was cold. Oh well, at least it was really tasty, one of the nicest crumbles I've tasted in a long time, so that outweighed the hot/ cold debate. On departure, we popped to the bar to settle the bill. This was presented, or plonked down behind a pile of dirty glasses, bottles etc for me to retrieve. A mixed visit, silly little errors to a fussy diner sullied an enjoyable meal. Perhaps a little more staff training/ communication might eradicate gripes from fussy but knowledgable diners. We may return, the juries out.

This was my first visit, but not for the people with me. We organised to meet up on Thursday night for a chat, some food and a drink. Got to say we had a great night - nice atmosphere, pints of moretti, lovely food and spot on service.I had the salmon, which was perfect and there was plenty of veg. Big mention for the fantastic, friendly service by the owner. Definitely be going back

We came here for a charity function with a set menu which wasn't exactly to my liking. The starter was risotto with poached egg and I'm fussy about eggs. I hate them lightly done. The sight of a sloppy egg white makes me want to throw up, and mine was very sloppy. I managed to get one to my liking by swapping with another diner. The main course was much better. The chicken was tasty and well cooked. There was plenty of veg and when we expressed a preference for brocolli they came with extra supplies. Ten out of ten for service. Unfortunately the dessert wasn't startling, but then that could have been down to the menu choice. What we had was well cooked and presented but I left most of it. On the plus side the staff were helpful and attentive and the proprietor was extremely friendly. The decor was good and cleanliness absolutely fine but I think I might have to visit again to make a proper assessment of the food.

Thought we would try this place for a meal out but left very disappointed. Firstly I understand it has been done out recently & it does look nice & welcoming inside, however our food didn't match up to the décor. We both had starters & mains. The starters, pate & brushetta, were okay, in fact we both thought the pate was really nice, but the topping on the brushetta was rather meagre. It was the mains that dropped the average score to poor. I had a pasta dish, described as penne with onions, mushrooms & bacon in a rich tomato sauce. When it came I had the feeling that maybe the waiter had been peckish & eaten half of it on the way to the table, it was that tiny. The sauce rather than being " rich" was more Asda basics & I actually had 1(one) mushroom, however it was cut in half to make it look more. My wife's rissoto was marginally better but ruined by rock hard vegetables. Not great! We had been told that their Sunday lunches are amazing & that maybe the case but we won't be going back to try.

First visit since The Albion became an Italian restaurant and will definitely return. This was a private function for charitable causes and a full house! Superb tasty food, with hearty portions, well presented and piping hot. Quietly efficient well drilled staff who coped well given the numbers attending. Costas, the owner takes a pride in his new venture and has time for his customers. Cozy and contemporary decor, with a quality fit out - a total transformation. Excellent setting off the village green and war memorial. Looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch. I'm sure this will go from strength to strength.

Visited the Albion early on a Saturday night and took advantage of the happy hour menu. I can honestly say that the battered cod was the best I've ever experienced when eating out. Wouldn't hesitate to go back!

I was visiting this place to see a fashion show and booked a table for food for me and my grand daughter. WoW. What an absolute treat we were in for. As every table was so full we knew service wasn't going to be instant. It was definately worth the wait. Starters were so tasty and a great size portion. Main course was very tasty chicken in a peppercorn sauce. Nothing too adventurous for a first visit. A very healthy portion size cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive even with the amount of diners that were in. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to friends and family and we will definitely be using it again.

My son and I went for lunch one Friday. I ordered fish and chips but I wasn't very impressed with the fish, pretty meagre one at that! Didn't think what we had was value for money.

Went as a family for Sunday lunch as visiting hospice close by. Expected the same standard as Marina Vista in Sunderland, wow were we surprised. Old tables and chairs, poor decor, food not much better, veg tasted as though it had been cooked for hours, service not very good, certainly would not go back to this restaurant.

This is a fabulous restaurant, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, with a delicious and inventive menu. The Sunday lunches are superb, very tasty with plenty of vegetables. I have also visited on a Friday night. On one occasion i had a steak which was cooked just how i liked it and on another occasion i had salmon, also beautifully cooked with a butter sauce on the side. The atmosphere in this restaurant is warm and inviting, the staff efficient and friendly. I am looking forward to visiting again in the not too distant future. All the best.xxxx

The Albion at Ryhope is a good choice for those wanting good food at a fair price in a friendly and relaxing environment. Converted from a pub this restaurant offers Itlian food with some interesting special burgers. Food was very good and the service was friendly and quick. Lots of choice on offer and drinks are reasonably priced. We will visit again.

Visited here as part of a large party for the happy hour. The food was average, nothing to complain about really but nothing to rave about either. One of our party had fish cakes to start which were burnt on one side, the chicken stroganoff was very salty, some of the toast with the pate was burnt, little things but I won't hurry back.

Does anyone know if the Riverview brasserie restaurant over at the Stadium of light in Sunderland is still open or not. Because me and my dad are about to go there for a Father's Day lunch out on the 18th June and every time me and my dad kept on phoning them it just ends up with nobody answering the phone. So could someone kindly send me a reply message back and let me know to see if the Riverview brasserie restaurant at the stadium of light in Sunderland to see if it's open or not.

I eat here often as i work locally. I find the choice of food to be varied and look forward to the welcoming smile of the Owners/Staff. I believe this is the best 'Sandwich Shop' in Sunderland and would highly recommend.

Food was good but overpriced. Most upsetting was the time it took for the kitchen to serve us. Waitress was helpful & pleasant but caught in the middle. Either systems poor or need more kitchen staff....waited nearly an hour. Shame because it's a nice place but bit overpriced.

Dined out yesterday lunch time.just myself and my wife. Wife ordered beef baps n chips. I ordered the chicken Kiev but was told it'd be 35mins wait, as time was pressing I decided against the wait and opted for beef baos too which were lovely. Staff pleasent and friendly decor decent. O er all good experience but I will now have to return to have the chicken Kiev. If it's a 35.min wait then it must be decent.
