Wonderfully decorated and intimate inside, makes a change from the larger samey same type venues in Maldon. Food was top notch, as was the service...although the fish pie was very dry. That said, that was only one below average dish out of 12. Only thing that would put me off coming back to Haus is the extortionate wine list. Cheapest bottles start at £27-30 and a Malbec was £36 and a bottle of Sauvignon was £46. Yes, £46!!!! No bottle of wine should cost that much, this is not Kensington, it's Maldon...bring the prices down to £20-25. Until you do, I regrettably, won't be returning.

We were a group of 22 for a society day. The catering was excellent and timely. From Bacon Rolls and coffee on arrival to Ham Egg and Chips after. Very friendly staff, very agreeable venue

I’m afraid it’s no more than 1 star from me due to the mandatory service charge. Perhaps this, and other places that include an "optional" service charge, could put a clear notice on the front door stating: "10-15% extra charge applied to your bill." It would save everyone time and avoid negative reviews. Let’s be honest—it’s not "optional" if you automatically include it in the bill and then say, “Oh, we can remove it if you want.” No, I don’t want a discussion about it. Maybe I just wanted to pop in for a quiet breakfast without the hassle. What starts as a pleasant experience quickly loses its charm when the so-called "optional" tax is tacked on. Prices have already risen considerably, the menu prices have gone up, and yet there’s still this sneaky 10% service charge. If you don’t want my business without this added fee, just put a big sign on the door. I’ll gladly take my custom elsewhere and spare both myself and your staff from an unnecessary conversation. The ladies serving were lovely and friendly, and I can imagine they’re not fans of having to handle these awkward discussions either. It’s a shame because it really does tarnish what could’ve been an enjoyable visit.

Nice place for a beer if the weather is ok. We had lunch and honestly, it is not a place to eat

Updatw: Another excellent roast! Sharing platters were fab. Staff fitted us in short notice. Food was top drawer! Excellent roast! And I mean 1st class! 7 of us were seated and served within 10 minutes notice that we were coming! Very good service, polite staff. We were all really pleased with our meals especially the cauliflower cheese and tasty gravy. Will return for sure! Geoff Grove

Visited this place for lunch on the way home from a shopping trip, the first thing we noticed were that the two ladies serving both had very untidy unkempt hair, none of them were wearing any sort of headwear to keep their hair off their faces, the welcome wasn't very warm either, the pies were slightly overdone but hot and the mash was just warm, the pies did not have a lot of flavour to them but there was a noticeable twang to them, possibly mixed herbs not quite sure, the meal was passable but doubt that we would eat there again, the hygiene issue needs to be addressed as we also noticed that the staff were also dragging big bags if potatoes around in between serving although they did put on a a pair of rubber gloves to do this but I doubt they washed their hands after taking the gloves off.
