An excellent restaurant but so much more as well! The Black Horse used to be my father’s favourite restaurant to take my mum to. They spent many a year happily visiting on a regular basis and always offered rave reviews. My dad sadly passed away in feb 2023 and my mum was anxious about returning, not sure if her grief would be too much. We visited for the fourth time today, since my dad’s passing, and the staff are almost like family towards her. So caring, friendly and sensitive. It is such a pleasure to see her relax and have a window of normality away from her grief. The food is always lovely, but the hosting, service and general loveliness of the staff mean so much to us as a family. Thank you so much, every single one of you. We will of course be back.

We booked afternoon tea for four about a week in advance, this was dealt with by the event organiser who couldn't have been more helpful, When we arrived the staff were waiting for us and conducted us to the old library where a single table was prepared for us. We had expected to be in the restaurant and to have a private room was a real treat. Our party included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerant guest. The Chef had prepared separate plates of sandwiches for these two as well as a seperate stand of glutent free cakes. There was a good variety of sandwiches which were obviously freshly prepared and well presented, the cakes and sweets were varied and excellent. The service was A1 and unobtrusive, fresh tea being brought in on request. We all really ate too much, but the food was so nice we just had to clear the plates :-) A very special afternoon for us and we shall return. We do enjoy an afternoon tea when we can ~ our overall service experience here was far better then at Woburn, much quieter and personal than that at Frosts at Willington and better service and fresher food than the at the Swan in Bedford,

Our walking group has just had our Christmas Social at The Guinea. What a fantastic evening! The food was excellent as evidenced by clean plates, the service exemplary and a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff for making tonight such an enjoyable experience.

The food was average ,unfortunately the service leaves a lot to be desired, they don't seem to understand their own booking/seating system, staff not up to speed on menu or drinks, had to ask for cutlery for main course condiments took a long time to arrive at the table

A couple of pubs we hoped to visit for a last minute family catch up were full with Xmas parties. As we were already out & about we thought we’d try the green man as the car park wasn’t full…we should have realised why !! The drinks were extortionate, the food was highly priced (although we had seen the menu) but the portion sizes were ridiculously small; a small kids bowl of plain pasta (we requested no sauce or cheese) was £7, a very small basket of fries was £4.50. This pub could be ok, nice Xmas decorations and lit candles, although the log burner wasn’t alight. The staff were friendly that’s for sure, but in this instance that’s not enough to make us return. So our advice is to save your hard earned money and drive right past the empty car park.

Enjoyed a walk around the woodland with our dog. Popped in for a light snack lunch. Run by volunteers, a friendly community atmosphere, welcoming everyone including dogs. Simple menu with inviting cakes. Good coffee and proper pot of tea. Lovely outlook across the orchard and quiet.
