Visited at short notice on Saturday night. So glad we did the food was excellent! We both had “Specials” the slow roasted pork belly was the best we had ever tasted. Thoroughly recommend eating at The Crown Northill

Just went for a late Sunday lunch, no roast dinners available so went for next nearest main meal - pork loin with potatoes and cabbage. We waited over 40 minutes for the food to arrive, when it did I had to ask if it was a main meal - the serving was so small I would guess less than a whole potatoe per person on the plate. We both had the same and ate within about 5 minutes there was so little food. Considering the meal was just under £19 each, while the flavours were good the amount of food was no way a main meal and enough to warrant the price. Given potatoe is so cheap, it seems simple to me to bulk out the meal a little more with roast potatoe and a decent serving of cabbage. Definitely not a main meal, we came away hungry and would advise ordering something different if you want to be full!

Been here twice in the last few weeks after not visiting for a while. Forgot how great it is. It's the perfect location for us, as it's an easy to reach mid point for all the family to get to from around Bedfordshire. Northill is such a peaceful place set in the countryside. The food and service is always top notch. Can't do enough for you. Enjoyed a delicious chicken burger and chips the other week and today my family enjoyed a Sunday roast for my Dad's 70th birthday. Love the desserts, particularly the sticky toffee pudding! Our little boys love playing in the garden on the play equipment too. You can tell a lot of thought is put into the food options and that the food is freshly made and from good sources. Can't wait to visit again soon.

Have been here many times and always been good. Just as arrived with friend a large group arrived and manager came and said we have a wake so might be a delay in getting you some food. We were not in a hurry and nice she that she told us that We ordered a chicken and bacon ciabatta each and were happy to wait until guests had food and drinks. Food was very nice, staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a busy day but we were not in a rush. A nice chilled lunch and enjoyed it. Group of us have had Sunday lunch there and it was lovely. Our party of six sat down at 19.05, drinks and food order was taken and drinks delivered promptly, my red wine was old, tired and undrinkable, then waited, and waited for our food, with an interim request from the waiter for more drinks, and finally food was delivered at 20.00. My wife had the sea bass, which was burnt, with the rosti potato nothing but a sad oil loaded slab; untouched. My Thai chicken curry reminded me of the “good old days” when boil in the bag was popular, with this dish not at all fresh tasting, so not finished. Only one of our party left a clean plate when we were finished, with two having the burger and leaving at least half of it, then more waiting for our plates to be cleared away, this around 20.40, and given we had eight and 11 year olds with us made the waiting more frustrating. When asked about the meal, since so much had been left, we told them politely what we thought and they did at least deduct one meal and drink from the bill, but, a wasted evening out. We thought better of ordering desserts and the highlight of our evening was dropping into Sainsbury’s on the way back home to pick up desserts. Service was poor throughout, only matched by the food; we will not be returning.

The Crown in Northill is a great place for a family gathering or Sunday roast, we were doing both. We pre-booked our table for 10, and Victoria was great at communicating with us by email. When we arrived they had set up a table for us in the 'snug' and could not have been more welcoming. Jugs of water were ready on the table for the hot weather and the kids enjoyed being able to safely run outside to the play area. Some of us had starters and the stand out dish was the battered black pudding on a bed of bacon pieces, salad and mustard dressing. It was truly divine. Most of us had roast dinner, which was beef that day and it was very tasty. The Yorkshire was huge and there was a good selection of vegetables to accompany it. The gravy was thick and rich. Others enjoyed the expertly cooked duck and the burgers. The apple and cinnamon spring rolls were a nice twist on a classic dish. We were well attended to, drinks were offered throughout, staff were on hand and friendly and we were lacking in nothing. We had a really enjoyable afternoon together, which was lovely as family from abroad were visiting and celebrating with us, and The Crown was the perfect place to do this.

Food was amazing; Sunday roasts were huge. Unfortunately it seemed the regulars were visited and spoken too, but we were forgotten. When I booked and paid the deposit, I said we’re booking as we’re new to the area and it’s for my birthday. We were put in a room up some steps which was lovely, but after waiting a while, we had to get someone to take our order. Our starters took a long time to come, but the main…we didn’t get till gone 3.30, when our booking was at 1.30. We had a 4 year old with us that was starting to have a strop because he was so hungry. No one ever came to apologise, or update us - nothing. My sister in law asked where our food was, and they said it was coming. 15 minutes later, nothing. It was warm today (finally), so I think there were a lot of walk-ins - but people who booked weren’t prioritised. The whole reason I booked here was so we could have a meal, then spend the afternoon in the beer garden, having drinks, so my nephew could play. Even his dessert we had to chase as no one ever came to our table. A huge family meal which I felt responsible for, as I booked, and the staff completely let it down. Really upset and disappointed. Felt very unwelcome.

Food is over priced and extremely disappointing here, Sirlon steak at over £30 was cold on arrival and sent back to the kitchen who I presume just microwaved it as it came back on the same plate, my mother and fathers venison was the same but due to it being a family occasion didn’t choose to say anything until afterwards, there are so many better places around Bedfordshire for food I’m really disappointed we chose to go here based on other reviews as for the prices per meal you would expect much higher quality. The pub itself is nice and staff were very friendly but the food is below par, a beefeater would have been a better option.

Very less than average, felt like a school boy when I was handed my cutlery at the bar, starters were ok, Waitress collected our plates and I asked for another drink to which I was told to go the bar myself. Main dish arrived no condiments, asked a waitress, was told to collect the from the bar. Boy are we having to work for this meal, so let’s dig in to a plate full of raw veg, the only thing cooked was the potatoes and meat, the later I could not decide wether it was beef or lamb. Will not be going back, there must be better food locally.

The menu is extremely different to other pubs and we are going back to sample the delicious items on the menu. We opted for the Sunday roast beef and omg what a delicious huge plate of roast beef. Fresh vegetables and Yorkshire pud. Green beans carrots new and roast potatoes cauliflower cheese and broccoli 🥦. Nothing frozen here. We looked at the desert menu which was amazing but decided not to . We are going back soon because the vegetarian selection is definitely a have to! Everything on the menu I'd love to try. Reasonably priced a beautiful setting. Thanks again for fitting us in.

I called The Crown on Saturday to make a Sunday lunch booking for my wife and I (our first visit on a Sunday) and was lucky to get a 230pm slot. It is clearly popular and we now understand why. When we arrived, we were given a warm welcome with a lovely smile. The young lady took us to our table and explained that as they were very busy - all of the tables in the area we were to be seated in were occupied - the food service wouldn't be as quick as usual. We weren't in a hurry so that was fine. As it turned out from the time we ordered our hot starters ( tempura prawns and fried brie) it was c25 minutes before they arrived. Our main courses arrived c 20 minutes after our starters were cleared. I ordered the Roast Beef but, unfortunately, my wife was unable to have Roast chicken as they had run out. Not being a red meat eater, she opted for a Chicken Burger from the Specials menu. All of the food was hot and very tasty. The main courses are large portions - too large for my wife, despite her good appetite! The Roast Beef was tender and was served with a large Yorkshire pudding, 3 roast potatoes, 3 x small boiled potatoes, cauliflower cheese, plus a selection of green beans, carrots and broccoli and gravy. We didn't have room for dessert. The other young ladies who took our order/served us were all smiley/friendly and efficient. We shall definitely return but next time, we will ensure that we book a few days in advance to increase our timing options!

We phoned (at 1245) to make a lunch booking at (1300) in advance; staff could have told us then how long the wait for food would have been! We waited for 50 minutes, and when it did arrive - my little girl who was starving, her pizza 🍕 wasn’t ready, because the chef accidentally thought it was a pasta dish (so we were told). We did receive an explanation that they were one chef down - but why not tell us that at the point of booking? I felt for the waiting staff, as clearly lack of resources was the issue. Today was a “let’s give them one last chance” as we had exactly the same experience one year prior. It’s such a shame that such a lovely located venue, has such dreadful delays/poor service. The food was ok, presented rather rushed; the salad garnish with the sandwiches was nothing more than lambs lettuce, and possibly the biggest helping of crisps covering the lettuce. Seriously please compare yourselves to Jordon Mills; much quicker service during busy hours and much better value for money! We won’t be returning.

Lovely place, plenty of outdoor areas, staff lovely, but don't expect a reasonable price on your drink, two ciders, nearly £11, thought I was at the cinema with those prices. However despite the high price, it was a lovely place to visit. Although be careful as it does close really early on a Sunday at 6pm, even in this summer weather, not usually open on Mondays either. If driving past, worth a visit 👍, loses a star on the high prices.

Have stopped here a few times for a drink, whilst out on a dog walk. We love the setting of the pub, and these is plenty of outdoor seating for us in the sunshine. This visit we ordered two sandwiches, and upgraded to chips and fries on the side, with two soft drink pints. These took around 30 minutes to come out, quite a while to wait for a sandwich. The chicken, bacon and mayo was disappointing as cold, and lacking filling. The prawn ciabatta was okay, however could have been nicer and filled better for the price! Unfortunately when checking my bank, I had been charged £34.70 for this visit! When queried with the pub, as this seemed extortionate for a sandwich lunch, they confirmed we had been charged an additional £3.75 for each addition of fries/chips, even though these were only a replacement to crisps normally offered. I completely disagree with this price, but was assured on the phone, this is on the menu. I would like to confirm this, however no up to date menus online. Overall a very disappointing experience, and would expect far more for this price.

We moved to the area 2 years ago and had used the Crown a few times but it was mid covid so wouldn't class ourselve as regulars. However, last November we started using the Crown more regularly. We started with Sunday lunches, dogs sitting under the table, good choice of beers, super friendly staff and not only good value but consistently great quality. Head Chef Adrian (& owner) is a hidden gem in this little village I can tell you!!!! Front of house is Marion, always friendly and accommodating, fitting us in even when super busy. She really runs her team well and nothing is too much trouble. More recently we celebrated my fathers 84 Birthday at the Crown. Adrian and I discussed and agreed the menu for 18 people and he delivered an absolutely outstanding 3 course meal... the headline dish - a perfectly cooked Rib of Beef.... delicious and a family favourite! And as always, Marion was on hand orchestrating the evening with ease! I cannot recomend this restaurant (pub) more and i have been to few ;-).... combining fine food with a local, family run pub atmosphere.... go there, you will not be disappointed!!!

One of the nicest pubs in the area. I have never heard a bad word about the Crown at Northill.

Went here at the weekend for an evening meal. Very quiet. Staff welcoming and polite. A couple of the main courses chosen were smaller portions than we've previously experienced here but still tasty. One of our party said that the gluten free fish and chips was very good. Charged £4:50 for a pint of lemonade hence 3 stars instead of 4.

Me and my partner went here for my birthday meal. The staff were very friendly and the location is beautiful. My main (mozzarella and tomato tartlet) was absolutely dreadful. So watery and no taste at all. The dessert was delicious but i was disappointed and still hungry after the main.

First thing - empty at least 7 mixed tables free THIS WAS Empty AT LIKE 945 AM , Staff looked down their nose as if we knew they were FULL! Then said after being approached- we are full , never even asked what we wanted - and that would have been what 15 minute drink? We had no wish to eat I am shocked in attitude and ethos of the place - would not be willing to recommend or re visit

We booked afternoon tea for four about a week in advance, this was dealt with by the event organiser who couldn't have been more helpful, When we arrived the staff were waiting for us and conducted us to the old library where a single table was prepared for us. We had expected to be in the restaurant and to have a private room was a real treat. Our party included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerant guest. The Chef had prepared separate plates of sandwiches for these two as well as a seperate stand of glutent free cakes. There was a good variety of sandwiches which were obviously freshly prepared and well presented, the cakes and sweets were varied and excellent. The service was A1 and unobtrusive, fresh tea being brought in on request. We all really ate too much, but the food was so nice we just had to clear the plates :-) A very special afternoon for us and we shall return. We do enjoy an afternoon tea when we can ~ our overall service experience here was far better then at Woburn, much quieter and personal than that at Frosts at Willington and better service and fresher food than the at the Swan in Bedford,

We ate here whilst staying at the hotel. It was during a Wedding Reception. We were warned ahead of time that there may be a delay in the food arriving. However we felt that there was no perceptible delay. The food we ate was delicious! The Staff were very friendly and approachable.
