We booked afternoon tea for four about a week in advance, this was dealt with by the event organiser who couldn't have been more helpful, When we arrived the staff were waiting for us and conducted us to the old library where a single table was prepared for us. We had expected to be in the restaurant and to have a private room was a real treat. Our party included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerant guest. The Chef had prepared separate plates of sandwiches for these two as well as a seperate stand of glutent free cakes. There was a good variety of sandwiches which were obviously freshly prepared and well presented, the cakes and sweets were varied and excellent. The service was A1 and unobtrusive, fresh tea being brought in on request. We all really ate too much, but the food was so nice we just had to clear the plates :-) A very special afternoon for us and we shall return. We do enjoy an afternoon tea when we can ~ our overall service experience here was far better then at Woburn, much quieter and personal than that at Frosts at Willington and better service and fresher food than the at the Swan in Bedford,

Went for afternoon tea. Had a really nice assortment of sandwiches and cakes, and the staff could not have been nicer. Regrettably, we were there on our own, and the room and atmosphere was cold.

We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. The General Manager kindly set us up in the old library so we had the entire room to ourselves. We selected our sandwich filling and they were made to order. A delightful selection of petit fours and slightly warmed scones rounded off a fabulous afternoon tea. We've booked to go back again!

Stopped off lunch today after a walk in the woods, walled gardens and of course a visit to the woodland playground. Staff were really welcoming, and the food was delicious. The child's meal of chicken goujons and fries, a drink, and large cookie covered in sweets was especially good value. Defiantly think we shall be coming again to sample more from the specials menu, and another slice of chocolate cake.

My initial impression almost had me turning around and going elsewhere, a very bare basic space with no ambience whatsoever. I asked the lady at the counter where the restaurant was and was surprised when she replied "This is it". It was a chilly and overcast day with a few rain drops and I did not want to walk back to our car. I had a look at the menu which initially didn't impress until I saw "hand battered fish and chips", all three of us plumped for this. My two ladies shared a large bottle of an exotic coloured cider and I had a Peroni. The tables were very basic, plank like, I sat down and found the chairs very hard, typical basic kitchen chairs but no cushions. To our surprise our meals were served very quickly and were absolutely delicious, nothing was too much trouble, vinegar, tartare sauce, mayo all being brought to the table. As we were finishing our meal the manager Harry Hay came along and asked for our comments. I told him just about the same as I have written, he seemed genuinely interested and said he would take on board our comments. On our way out I noticed that there is plenty of outside seating and tables in a court yard with comfy cushions in a nearby building. There is a disabled toilet, very clean. On a nice warm summers day I am sure this could be an excellent place to visit, probably best for coffee and cake, however we couldn't fault the fish and chips, nor the service.

I booked 3 afternoon teas a few weeks ago and the friendliness of the communication set my expectations high. We arrived earlier than expected to find a table set up outside, and a huge apology that a family had just camped on the table subsequently set up inside for us. If we wanted we could have waited for them to table cloth and set up another table, but not really fussed about that we continued at a non set table. Drinks arrived and soon after a splendid afternoon tea. You get a sandwich each from selection and a large scone, and an immense selection of mini cakes. Drinks were topped up throughout and we were checked on to make sure everything was to our liking, which it was. I finished everything but my friends couldn't ( I am afternoon tea queen!!) so the leftovers were wrapped to be taken home I think a great value, tasty hidden gem of an afternoon tea venue. Will be going back for lunch or coffee and cake soon Thank you for looking after us so well

A sandwich lunch with possibly the worst made sandwich we have had in a long while with dry bread, meagre filling and 5 soft crisps. Such disorganised service and couldn't get rectified without going to the back of queue. Concerned with staff hygiene as taking money and then all making their own sandwiches. The garden cafe appeared to be temporary fitted .... might have been better to wait until they could offer a decent service.

Ideal place to snack after walk around grounds viwing loads of snowdrops. Friendly staff, fresh and clean table setting. One of the tastiest bacon/Brie/Cranberry Pannini I've ever had. Took the trouble to call and email in advance to request a menu and reserve a table to include a meal for a gluten-free diner. Assured over the phone and in an email that this could be supported. What nobody bothered to explain was that it doesn't actually serve hot lunches unless you count jacket potatoes or soup as a hot lunch. They had reserved a table for us but we were offered menus and asked what sandwiches we'd like for our Afternoon Tea! Went elsewhere where they do serve hot lunches and also offer gluten-free options so had a decent meal but not in the Old Kitchen. Not sure how they can promote lunches on their website including "All food is lovingly prepared onsite by our Chef, Andy Brown using locally sourced ingredients." when you don't need a chef to cook a jacket potato. In a previous incarnation what is now called The Old Kitchen did indeed offer tasty hot lunches from local ingredients. A later email raising these points has been ignored. Won't be going back.

We arrived at lunchtime without booking and after another group of cyclist which won't have helped the staff. But the service was slow, our drinks arrived some time after finishing our cakes and not in the order with which they were ordered. However, to be fair and full credit to the waitress for coming out afterwards to apologise for the poor service!! This to me is the sign of an establishment worth visiting again.

Love all the flowers around the courtyard which is pleasant to sit in if weather good. Old kitchen is very homely and the food was excellent with friendly staff. The Woodland cafe was very pleasant but the bad reviews for something that is not there any more seems a bit pointless. We will visit again. What happened to the wonderful Woodland Cafe? It was in an amazing location, light, airy, well staffed, family-friendly and the food, especially weekend breakfast, was lovely. I used to visit several times a month. Now replaced by the Old Kitchen, sadly the total opposite. Drab, tightly packed with bad service. Been three times to give it the benefit of the doubt but food orders have been messed up every time and it's ultimately not worth the hassle. It's certainly not the go-to destination it once was and I regretfully won't be returning.

It was an amazing local asset, ruined by the relocation of the cafe. Move cafe back, locals who spend everyday will come pouring back in again.

This old Manor House was once used as a hospital and it shows in places. It's a little bare for the most part and there some truly quirky aspects to the place. In our room, for example, the tall arched window had a standard blind that was only hung from halfway down the window. As a consequence, we were awake too early the following morning du to the brightness outside which was a bit of a shame because the beds are comfortable enough and the hotel's location makes for wonderful peace and quiet. In the evening, food is served in the bar which is located in the cellar. It can be a little cramped in there but the food is of good quality and the drinks good enough. There's no extended wine list here. In the morning, breakfast is served in what was the servant's hall. It's a bit odd but the self service food is fine. It's not at the top of my list but it's decent enough to make my B-list.

It has been several years since I last visited Moggerhanger Park, and to be honest this time we were left a little disappointed.Luckily we chose a lovely sunny day to visit and to look at all the snowdrops. We enjoyed our woodland walk but were expecting to see many more snowdrops, but as it is free to visit we couldn't complain. The fresh air did us good.We had then planned to eat in the Woodland Cafe, but there was a sign saying that due to unforeseen circumstances the cafe would remain closed. Worded like that we assume that it will not be reopening at all. Maybe they want to get rid of the daily visitors and just keep it as a hotel. We won't be in a hurry to visit again if there is no cafe or not many snowdrops.

This is a special building, set in large grounds. Our room was very nice, with a high ceiling, gorgeous flagstone floor, and a very good bathroom. The room had two doors, one of which went to the outside, which was perfect for going straight outside with our dog. The bed was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed our evening meal, even though we were banished to a small bleak room - 'the snug' - full of mismatched furniture, because dogs are not allowed in the bar! I'm sure when the house was commissioned it would have been full of hounds, but still. The buffet breakfast was great, with a wide range of food available, but again no dogs allowed, so we had to leave her in the room - although they did say we could use the 'snug' again, but it meant carrying breakfast down the steps.Whilst I am always grateful to hotels that allow dogs, I do think they should consider that many dog owners would prefer to keep their dog with them for meals, rather than leave them alone in a room they don't know. The staff here were great, very helpful and polite, and all in all it was a lovely stay.

We drove a long way to see the gardens and were so disappointed, as they have been completely neglected and had a very sad, unkempt atmosphere. The walled vegetable garden only had some pumpkins amongst the weeds and the other walled gardens had nothing in them. The estate must have been lovely once upon a time. We went on the woodland walk, but it wasn't very big, so didn't take us long. The only thing we found of interest (didn't visit the house) was the little museum about slavery, which was sad, but very educational. We then had lunch in the Woodland Café. There were only snack meals available, but they were good and there was a nice variety of cakes.

We had the most delightful stay and, as noted already, Lisa, in Reception made our visit even more comfortable. It was like staying as an invited guest in a country house rather than a hotel with the love and devotion to the the restoration being so apparent and an element of trust that you would respect the fabric, furniture and furnishings (that is sadly lacking these days). We ate in the Cellar Bar in the evening and had a very tasty steak and horseradish pie (looked and tasted homemade), chips and salad. The bed was enormous and the linen excellent quality. Pristine cleanliness both in the room, ensuite bathroom and reception areas - not easy to achieve in such large house. We saw the housekeeper taking great care to ensure everything was spotless. The breakfast was excellent - I chose delicious bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and scrambled eggs but it would have been nice if the staff member had checked that everything was ok, on a brisk cursory glance through the door. It is not clear how to get attention, if needed, at the buffet bar. We stayed to wander through the house with guide book in hand and enjoyed a drink in the Woodland Cafe before leaving. The exhibition showing a DVD of the restoration was most interesting and added to the marvel of the sheer hard work put in to save the house. The place is obviously used by the local community and was buzzing with activity in the seminar rooms etc. Great to see and did not impinge on our visit. Will definitely return and savour all that is on offer at this special place.

My son and daughter in law held their wedding reception here yesterday and what a wonderful unusual unique quirky experience. I cannot praise the staff enough for their hard work from start to finish, they were so helpful patient and friendly front of house and behind the scenes. This is the perfect venue to bring your family and friends and share a country house together making the event a very personal and intimate experience. The food and service was excellent, beds very comfortable, lots of rooms to cater for all ages, a quiet reading room, room for the disco, cellar bar and much much more which I didn't have time to discover. The stairs to some bedrooms may be a problem for some but there is the grooms annex situated next to the main house and there are no stairs to climb there. The fabulous DJ catered for all ages and tastes and played songs from our personal play list. We partied till the early hours of the morning finishing off in the cellar bar. After a few hours sleep in a very comfortable bed we went for breakfast which was self service and offered full English, continental, fruit, drinks etc. It was then time to say goodbye to Moggerhanger Park/House and collect items the staff had kindly packed away and stored safely in a room for us (our props/ gifts/cakes/shoes and missing/left items). What a wonderful unusual 24 hour experience.

I visited here for a midweek lunch with three friends. We were there to relax so we weren't clock watching but I actually thought the food came quite quickly. Range of food is light lunch and cake/cream teas. I had a panini which came with salad garnish and chips. Presentation was excellent and made it feel more special than a light lunch- panini on a lovely wooden board, chips in a little metal bucket and mayonnaise in little glass jar. Panini was full of tomato and definitely looked bigger than the often disappointing ones I have had before. Cake to follow was not only delicious but a really decent sized slice! We were delighted that our teas all came in novelty tea pots with china cups and saucers. All very nice touches particularly given the very reasonable prices. The environment is very white and clean looking with a selection of lovely original paintings (for sale) on the walls. The only reason that I have given a 4 rather than a 5 rating is for things like; the comfy sofas we opted to sit at really need a clean and we had to tidy up/wipe the table before we could make ourselves comfortable. It wasn't so busy to excuse table clearing not being done. We will definitely be returning!!!

Very pretty but not enough for one scone let alone two.. We had to ask for the table to be cleared, then chased up are our pot of tea. Eventually it arrived, however we then had to ask for milk! The service was chaotic to say the least, the grounds could be much tidier, but work is in process, I am sure it will be stunning. This could be a gorgeous little Café, with just a little organisation.

We had a superb afternoon tea at Moggerhanger Park, Woodland Café. The sandwiches were tasty, lovely, homemade style bread and a good selection. Cakes were plentiful. One of our party wanted a change of scone (she doesn't like dried fruit) and was offered a cheese scone which was very nice. Staff were friendly, helpful and very polite. The old fashioned mismatched china and individual tea pots add to the atmosphere and we also had a lovely walk afterwards. We will be back soon.

We stopped off on our way home from a weekend away with friends and saw the signs off the road. Unfortunately having turned off the road the sign at the junction is hidden so with cars behind it meant holding up the traffic looking for sign which is round the side of the entrance and difficult to see. Again from the car park signage indicates right but it's not clear where the cafe is until you get to it. You can see it, but it is an old hut which has been renovated near the walled garden and doesn't look like a cafe. Better signage is needed.Once inside the building it is very pleasant and has been well restored with a nice fresh and airy feel to it.We ordered one cream tea, but lemon with the tea and the tea bag separate, one pot of 'ordinary tea' and one cheese scone. Not in our view complicated. The service was very slow given the number of staff on duty and less than half full of customers. The staff appear to be school kids with a weekend job. Nothing wrong with this but they spent a lot of time chatting, working slowly, and need supervising effectively. They are though, very polite. When our food and drinks arrived they gave us one large pot of water, two tea bags, but had put the lemon in the water. This meant that we had to ask for the 'ordinary tea'. Also the cream tea is advertised with 2 scones but only one was served so we had to ask for another. The staff responded positively and sorted it out, but it all suggests a lack of supervision and someone with an overview to keep the operation focused.Tea was served in china cups which is nice, but the scones were served on small pieces of slate. This looks very twee for service, but very impractical given their size when you try to use them as a plate as we ended up putting half the scone on a napkin on the table so we could butter the other half. Also be aware at one end of the cafe there is a small play area with toys. There were only a couple of infants, but the room echoes, and they made plenty of noise banging their toys. The Cafe gives the impression it wants to be 'up market' and given the setting this cafe has good potential, but at present is a bit amateurish.

On arriving at Moggerhanger after a stressful day, I was greeted by the lovely Simon. As a woman travelling alone, you can often feel intimidated or nervous staying somewhere new but I instantly felt relaxed and safe. Next I met Greg behind the bar, charming and funny. Unfortunately I became unwell later on, but I was in safe hands. Simon and Greg assisted me and were superb when it became apparent that I needed medical attention. I look forward to my next stay at Moggerhanger park, the bedroom was delightful, so comfortable and clean but most of all will look forward to seeing the superb staff.

Moggerhanger Park has hugely improved over the years and our recent stay there was nothing short of delightful. Considering just a few years ago, the house was a derelict ruin, what they have managed to do in the short space of time with the place is quite impressive! And improving all the time with the on going restoration. The history and story is absolutely fascinating and although its not your run of the mill hotel, what you do get is quite 'unique' and 'special' in its own right. You really do get a feel of its history when you stay there, and it is set in a beautiful tranquil location with fields, woodland and walks all around. My wife and I loved our time there with all its quirkiness and uniqueness. If your like us and like to try out something different from all your average hotels/guesthouses, then you'll love Moggerhanger Park. Its an interesting and relaxing experience unto itself...and we're very much looking forward to our next visit.

Wow....that's not even the best word to you. We won a dinner, bed and breakfast with the estate. Katrina was our contact and she made the organisation so evitless. Hubby and I stayed at the hotel last night and we were greeted by the live in host. We were shown to our room and it was fantastic, we had not been away for 8 years and to be met by a queen size bed, more cushions then we own and an En-suite made our stay even more unreal. We went downstairs to be served our meal. What we thought would be a simple meal turned into a magnificent evening. We were served drinks and sat in front of a candle lit table in the library in front of a massive window, the experience was over whelming. We were served by our waiter who made our dinner an enjoyable one. He was so helpful and polite - perfect. WE then went back to our room. We chose our breakfast time as they asked and at 10am we came downstairs to the dining hall. We were greeted by the host and taken to our seats, the waiter again showed excellance in his job and made us feel at ease. We left feeling refreshed and ready to rejoin our family.......now its 4pm.....can we come back???? Our rating......if I could afford to do it all over again, I would without any hesitation.x

I often stay in hotels with work and have stayed in many a converted country house. How nice it was to meet staff who are genuinely interested in the history of the building. Too often I have joined the queue at reception to be 'processed' for check in, this did not feel stilted or fake in any way. Upon arrival I was advised that there were no evening meals that night, however was recommended places to go. My bed was incredibly comfortable and being set away from the road made for a quiet night. Oversleeping my alarm meant a bit of a rush on my part for breakfast but was met by a friendly chef who cooked a cracking breakfast. Have made recommendations to work to consider holding conferences there. I would say the price was a little high for what was essentially a very good B&B however I will definitely consider visiting again.

Arrived at Moggerhanger Park late in the evening with my mum who is to marry at the Shuttleworth mansion. The bridal suite has cost £400 for 2 nights. We were greater by a lady who didn't have a clue with who we were. No help with our bags. The room was not fully prepared. No dressing gown for the bride, and when I asked about this I was laughed at...(I suggest they look at what competitors offer for this price) We had no celebratory drinks as confirmed we would. No one told us how or where breakfast will be served.. I'm already on make-up artist look out as I know no one will tell us she has arrived. In all poor service! They need the hotel inspector to sort them out because they don't have a clue!

This gem of a Woodland café is nestled away from the main house down a track. It would be good to have some lighting from the car park, especially in the winter months. The menu was of a good standard and freshly prepared. It was not fast food so time was needed for the preparation. This was evident in the taste and presentation of the food. My husband said the food was of a higher standard than the Abbey not fair away. Staff did mention that the menu is likely to change for the winter months. Worth a visit to see how different this will be! The atmosphere was friendly and unhurried. We did feel it was more of an adult venue. However there is a menu for children, and some toys in a basket. There was one highchair. I understand, from staff, that it is hoped a special event will take place, for children, around Christmas. There is future plans for a meadow, just outside the café. Clearly the patio doors will be opened up for the outside to come in! There will be two areas for children of differing age ranges. One of our guests was a young lady with special needs. The staff showed her respect and the set up was easy for her to move around without tables and chairs having to be moved. There is a room in the building to hire for private parties which I am sure will be popular especially in the summer months. I certainly will be making a visit to this café again and would have no problem recommending it to family and friends. We have found somewhere different, pleasant and enjoyable. I very much hope the standards we found will continue as the café becomes known and a favourite with other families. In the past we have visited the house and grounds. On this visit there was a wedding and therefore we only stayed in the café area.It was a lovely afternoon and such a surprise to find such a gem in the woods!

Like the previous reviewer I am fairly local and used to visit the Park frequently when the café was in the main house. It did initially go downhill after moving out to the woodland café and when using outside caterers. However, that has now changed and the catering appears to be home made. It has certainly improved and the food on offer is much more extensive than they would have you believe in their advertising (which came as a pleasant surprise). My chocolate brownie was warm and gooey in the middle and came with locally produced ice-cream. Mrs Bedford's scones were large and traditional. Both were well presented. I even took away a Moggerhanger Park Ale!The café has had a recent change of furniture and is now improved with a more rustic feel. Solid wood tables are throughout and comfy sofa's are at the end of the café for an even more informal feel. The external area could be hugely improved with the planting of a wild flower meadow but it remains to be seen what the on-going renovations of the grounds have to offer. It may also be worth clarifying a point raised by Sandyman53. I believe tours of the house are still available although these are only at selected times and it may be advisable to book in advance. Also, because the venue is consecrated it is licenced only to hold Christian weddings (hence no Civil partnerships). I believe the Park is the only non-church location in the UK to be able to offer ‘church’ weddings.

We live locally and decided to have another go at visiting the cafe at moggerhanger park , we used to love going when it was in the house, had tried the woodland cafe when it first opened 18 months or so ago, only to be greeted by a very strange lady who made you feel most unwelcome!! Anyway I thought maybe it had change as I knew only recently had reopened , well! What a lovely surprise it it lovely the lady and her family who are running it are welcoming and friendly the boys are very polite and the food is excellent, tea delicious and coffee not too bad either. The down side the walk to the cafe is most uninviting stinging nettles all along the path and around, the cafe would have a lovely view if the field was cut as the the birds around are lovely to sit and watch, so whoever is running the Park needs to pull their fingers out and at least give the grounds around the cafe a tidy, as it will be killing the trade for a lovely well, run cafe. Seems a bit unfair as they have worked so hard to make it lovely inside that outside let's it down big time.Perhaps they need to start there first on the 3 year garden project .

Good, if simple, food at excellent prices. Doorstep sandwiches, paninis, baked potatoes with fillings are about £4-5.00. Charming service. The approach is a bit odd - a narrow road past a scruffy looking old house, sheep grazing at the edge of the road. Then you have to walk 100m or so from the car park to the cafe, which looks out onto a field of waist high wild flowers (which most of us would call weeds) and towards a wood. There was a bit of a wasp problem on the outside tables but the cafe only opened 2 weeks ago and they are trying to do something about it. Inside was wasp free, very nicely decorated with chunky wooden tables and the kind of waitress\manager who couldn't do enough to help.We had the strong feeling that this was a new business we and our friends will want to support, and I'm confident the owners will iron out the little idiosyncracies. A very good start for such a new business.

We visited Moggerhanger House today as it was Bank Holiday Saturday hoping that we might have the opportunity to see the renovation work carried out on this Grade 1 listed building following a grant of almost £1m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. When we arrived we were the only car in the car park and we thought that maybe the Park was shut. The house does look nice, but there are some shabby cottages and out buildings on the way in which do not make for an impressive entrance into the Park. Sadly the main house is not open to visitors and having read the promotional literature its unclear about what it is apart from a wedding venue. Having been given a generous grant from public funds, it would have been nice for us to see how the grant had been used to restore this interesting and attractive building. However, we found the Woodland Cafe which was open and is a wonderful 1940's wooden building which has been tastefully renovated. The leaseholders have done a great job of renovating this really quaint old building and it felt comfortable and had friendly staff that were very welcoming. Afternoon tea was £5.50 and comprised two huge homemade scones, butter, jam and cream plus a pot of tea. We were able to choose our tea pot from a range of lovely old teapots on the shelves behind the counter which was really nice……..just a little bit different. Presentation was excellent with the afternoon tea being presented on a slate platter and small glass pots for the jam and cream. To be picky……..another glass pot for butter would have been preferable to three butter pats from Lakeland. The scones were very generous and neither of us was able to eat both of them but it was a really enjoyable afternoon tea and good value for money. Well worth a visit for afternoon tea. However, a word of warning. There are three groups of Christian organisations that are very involved with Moggerhanger and feature on the bottom of the website. I would advise anybody considering holding an event at the house to look at the relevant websites before booking. We were considering holding a large family party at the Park, but after looking at the websites we became very concerned about these groups and decided not to book. For instance, there are brochures about wedding packages that are available but there is no mention of Civil Partnerships. Having looked at the videos of Rev Clifford Hill we decided that we could not support his organisations with our custom, but that is just a personal view.Moggerhanger Park looks as though it has been tastefully restored from the brochures, but seems to have lost its way as to its purpose…....

Having read some of the reviews after we had booked using a Groupon Voucher, we decided we would keep an open mind and judge for ourselves. When we arrived there was a large wedding reception in progress where guests were having a good time. We found the main reception after walking through the wedding party and were greeted by friendly and efficient staff. Although they were very busy, they gave us their full attention for the booking in process. Our room was lovely, it was clean and very comfortable and had everything you needed in it. The decoration was in keeping with the building and was very tasteful. Lovely little touches such as pretty tea cups and saucers on the tray and bottled water by the beds. Even though there was a lot going on downstairs, our room was nice and quiet. We had a relaxing time and enjoyed our Prosecco which a member of staff delivered to our room after we asked for it. The WiFi worked perfectly, so that made me happy. We had a very restful sleep in comfortable twin beds. I was with my 77 year old mum who can be a big critic when she's not satisfied. However, on this occasion she thoroughly enjoyed herself. She loved the place and wants to go again. The breakfast the following morning was well laid out and very tasty. People have used the word "weird" in their reviews. This puzzles me as there was nothing weird about it at all. It is a lovely old listed building which has had a lot of work done to it over the years. It has a lot of character and is unusual in that way, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The people who own the house will be restricted by the council in the way that they can renovate it as it is a Grade 1 listed building. I think that's why the stone stairs are worn in the centre as mentioned in previous reviews. We has access to the surrounding grounds which we made the most of. We came away satisfied with our little getaway, which was a real bargain with the Groupon voucher. We will return some day even without the Groupon deal as the staff were so welcoming and helpful. A very pleasant experience.

I purchased this offer on Groupon and just assumed it was an overnight stay in a nice hotel with breakfast included. The day before our visit, we looked at the reviews for it, and were glad we had. Not because it was bad or anything, but because its all a little bit surreal and slightly strange on first impressions and the reviews had forwarned us of that. It looks a little unremarkable on arrival, but we tried to keep an open mind. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and showed us to our room, which was on the 2nd floor up a very old, worn stone staircase, (a bit uncomfortable to walk up and down as each stone step dipped in the middle.) The room was quite quaint and old fashioned, but had everything we needed. The towels and bedding were very good quality, the bed was huge and very comfortable, there was a little wrapped chocolate on each towel bale, and a small bottle of Evian water on each bedside table, as well as tea/coffee/biscuits in the room...all small, but very nice touches. The room and the bathroom were also very clean. When we asked for the Prossecco (included in the offer), Simon showed us through to the library (offering an outside view whilst we relaxed and drank it) and served it to us there. Simon seems to do a bit of everything there....reception, maintenance, cleaning, bartending, cooking and serving breakfast, etc. He seems to work hard, and does long hours, but is very pleasant and helpful and clearly enjoys being at Moggerhanger. Overall, although it is a little difficult to know what to make of Moggerhanger Park, I am glad we visited and would be interested to know what it will be like in a couple of years time when the restoration projects currently underway are a lot further along the line. It is not really a hotel, as we first assumed, but a B&B in a large listed building, with some nice grounds. That said, it is a very good quality B&B and whilst I might not necessarily recommend a visit there unless you need to stay in the area anyway, I certainly would not discourage anybody from staying there either, as there was nothing more I needed that was not already provided. I also noticed that there were vases of fresh flower arrangements throughout the building, which were also very nice to see and smell! It's a little bit different from the norm, which is sometimes nice, the house and the grounds have huge potential with the restoration plans, and we had a perfectly pleasant stay there. Enjoy!

Just got back from a Groupon overnight stay at this house. It was only from calling regarding a query that I was informed that this was not an hotel stay but more an overnight stay in a grade one listed house. I have to say that I was pleased to know this before arriving as when you approach this house it does look very unimpressive indeed and we very nearly drove away. However, on entering the building you realise that it is in the process of being restored and it gets by on that as it has a fascinating history. I was disappointed to find that our 'prosecco' - doesn't stipulate glass or bottle - was not in our room. On querying this we were informed that Simon had been busy and we should have asked??? it was included in the offer and price so why should we have to ask?? However, I wasn't too bothered but it would have been nice to have got what the offer stated. Do be aware that if you get the room we had that it was like a rather large cupboard than a bedroom and it was airless and stuffy during the night even though the window was open. Do be aware that the bedroom you will get with this stay is not as pictured on their website! I have to say that the bed (which was huge) was very comfortable with feather duvets and pillows. Staff were generally helpful but I did feel a bit uneasy that you are left on your own overnight with absolutely NO STAFF in the building and feel that customers should be informed of this before buying offer..

We stayed here on a Groupon voucher, as it was a good value way to experience a venue we had seen develop from the days 10 years ago when it was being restored from a ruinous state. A good job has been done, and now they are offering B&B. The welcome was warm and courteous, flowers were already in the room and a glass of prosecco was on ice for us. The grounds are attractive, and an added interest was that baby lambs were being born while we were there. Breakfast the following morning was good. Things to watch out for: the stairs are worn stone and uneven, no lift is available; you have to take the mobile number of the concierge if you go out in the evening, as he unlocks the door for you. PS: the restaurant is closed for the moment, as the ceiling in the Eating room was unsafe (now fixed, but not reopened yet).

Just come back from an overnight stay. Should have known something was strange as couldnt call and book had to be done by email and answerphone. Not obvious where to park or how to get into hotel. Receptionist friendly but absent most of the time. Butler come cook friendly and doing his best. Food ok but very limited food choice. Biggest issue in this supposed tranquil setting was a live rock band on until gone 12. No reception to call to ask when music would finish and no chance of any sleep. In the morning we spoke to reception to say about the noise to be told its an old house and there is no sound proofing. I said thats fine but maybe when functions are booked people should be notified to there is a choice of when to get away for a restful break. She agreed we should have been told but we wasnt compensated in any way. I am not a party pooper and like a party like the rest of them but not on a supposed tranquil restful break. This is bistro-style eating in a famous house in a rural setting. The food could be described as rustic, with home-made soups and freshly prepared local produce. Unfortunately, the service can be exceedingly slow and rather haphazard, almost amateurish, which can spoil a meal unless you are in good company and want to have very protracted chats before you order, before the food arrives and between courses. We also thought that the prices were high for what we received. On the plus side, there are views from the gardens across the Bedfordshire countryside and a delightful circular walk in a small wood, with Bluebells, Lesser Celendines and Wood Anemones in the spring.

The fireworks were brilliant! Parking was well organised, we got through the gates without too much queuing. The food was all lovely and enough choice for everyone, including candy floss, chips, burgers and hog roast and was very reasonably priced. The display lasted long enough with some impressive big fireworks. Although there were lots if cars, we did not queue for long to get of the car park and back on the main road. They were definitely as good as bedford blues rugby club fireworks, but without all the extra expense of fairground rides and glow sticks! Will be going again next year!

I'll divide this review into 3 sections:Arrival & parking. The event.Exit.Arrival and parking.Arriving at the opening time of 1800 I was directed past the field that would later be used for parking into the normal car park, where marshalls were managing the queue such that only 1 car could park at a time. Naturally this created a huge backlog. Excellent planning one and all! Why not use the field first and use the standard car parks as an overflow? Total queuing time so far ~10min.The event.Judging from the review of last year's fireworks the organisers had muchly improved the catering, thus saving the organisers from being classed as totally inept. After a brief queue for tea and food we waited for the fireworks, 10 minutes behind schedule we were given an impressive if short display (10 minutes, and Timothy, no disputes, I timed it). After the display were were herded through a gap in the fencing of approx 2 peoples width. While happy to display a bit of patience trying to funnel the many attendees through 1 small gap does again show a total lack of forethought. The lack of litter bins also resulted in many leaving their rubbish strewn over the field, although I'm sure the lack of social grace, manners, and common courtesy of some attendees played a part there.Exit.This is where the lack of planning of the parking arrangements began to bite. With no marshalls present (presumably all stuck the other side of the unfeasibly small exit gate?) It did not take long for total gridlock to occur. Eventually some sort of control seemed to be established however they pretty much managed to empty the entire field before the 50 or so cars in the permanent car park were allowed to leave. Total queuing time ~30 mins. If they'd filled the field first then there may have been no need to use the main carpark as an overflow, allowing for 1 stream of cars to exit instead of a poorly controlled, stop start mashing together of 2 streams of traffic. Obviously that would have resulted in a much swifter exit for all concerned. As this place markets itself as a wedding venue, as well as holding other large functions throughout the year you would expect that getting a lot of vehicles on/off the premises smoothly would by now be a precise and well honed operation, seemingly not.In all 40 mins of waiting for 10 minutes of fireworks, and most frustrating is the knowledge that had someone given it the slightest bit of forethought and planning several annoyances could have been easily avoided.

It is a pity that the reastaurant /cafe is in such a state of change.. The responsibility for the property is now, I gather, a combination of the House Trust, the Christian fellowship and English Heritage. Because of this the cafe/restaurant has been moved from the house to one of the old outbuildings as has the Christian fellowship. I visited the House today (a charge of £5) and was shown those parts that are now accessible. Because of major work taking place within the house I felt it was a mistake to charge so much ,with so little to show visitors. The cafe was closed as the weather meant no one was likely to visit due to the rain. The old cafe/restaurant was very good but now they have no chef I understand, so it will be a fair while before it can be restored to its former standard, if ever. The excellent exhibition was accessible but the video film was not playing and there did not seem to be a member of staff who knew how to start it, which was a pity as i remember that as being very good ! I would advise delaying a visit until more of the present work is completed

The signs to the cafe in the woods pointed left and right?? it was a shambles. We are not sure there was a cafe in the woods. The quirky place we used to enjoy afternoon tea was not there. This restaurant is a bit of an oddity in a restored hall used for Christian conferences. The setting is wonderful and they are still working on it, e.g. the walled garden. We only had a snack lunch, but it was great; prices are not the lowest, but all-in-all it is worth it. Look out for their special evenings, e.g. steak night.

Then said after being approached- we are full , never even asked what we wanted - and that would have been what 15 minute drink? We had no wish to eat I am shocked in attitude and ethos of the place - would not be willing to recommend or re visit

We ate here whilst staying at the hotel. It was during a Wedding Reception. We were warned ahead of time that there may be a delay in the food arriving. However we felt that there was no perceptible delay. The food we ate was delicious! The Staff were very friendly and approachable.

Went today lovely breakfast , well cooked and great staff , however only draw back when asked to substitute an item on the fixed menu for another item , we was informed we had to pay extra .

If you are looking for refined then this is not for you. The Bedford room is somewhat drab and to be frank needs a good clean. I was sat next to the window cill which has a few ornaments which had clearly not be dusted or washed down for some time. I appreciate that spiders can spin webs through the summer very quickly but this genuinely needs a good clean. When the room is not clean this makes me query what else is not clean! Having pre booked this tea for a girlfriends birthday I could not fault the afternoon tea itself. The sandwiches had a good amount of filling and the scones were light for me, perfect. The cake selection for someone who is dairy free was great and the service was also good. There is an excellent selection of quality teas and other drinks too. Overall I would of liked to give a very good rating for the tea itself as it was lovely but the surroundings and cleanliness really let this down and it could be so easily rectified.
