We love having the tea rooms nearby, and think it's an asset to the area. The place in itself is very picturesque, and it always seems a popular spot. But, the coffee is truly terrible. I'm talking about the cappuccinos, lattes etc. We have never tried their filter coffee. The cappuccinos are very weak, and taste like hot milk. The froth on top is not proper froth. We have a Magimix coffee machine at home which makes better coffees, so am not sure why they don't just get one of those! When I told a member of staff about the coffee, she offered to top it up with filter coffee, but it was still very weak. Other than that, the cakes are always pretty nice, and the food is pleasant. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Challenged with upping the 'coffee and cake game' I took my friend to Southill Vintage Tea rooms which met the challenge! A quaint tea room set in a quiet village, we had gorgeous cake and coffee served in vintage style china cups by lovely staff. The inside space is small but we sat outside under a marquee in the lovely garden which is ideal, whatever the weather. Will definately go back!

After an abortive attempt at breakfast at Southill Tea Rooms last week, aborted due to roads closed and diversions, another attempt was made today, 11th November 2022. Despite looking at the website to ensure opening times imagine my disappointment to find a blackboard telling us the place was shut ‘Due to staff Shortages’. It would appear we are not the first to have arrived to be greeted by a ‘Closed’ sign. I won’t bother trying a third time.

Could I respectfully ask that you update your online opening hours information please - cycled over today to find you closed with a sign about Mother’s Day. Nothing to suggest this on your online presence, which I checked beforehand, most of which is very clear that you are open. Your tea rooms are great but this is very frustrating.

What a little gem in the lovely village of Southill. So pretty. Luckily today been a lovely sunny spring day, we sat outside among the flowers. Lovely China floral vintage cups. Lovely coffee. A joy. Lovely cake selection, which we would have tried, but we were having lunch and would have been too full. Will return.

As a family we had a table for 4, for the afternoon tea. We paid 50% of the price as a deposit. Our table was ready upon arrival and service was prompt and friendly. The afternoon tea provided could have been better. The sandwiches were nice, but very small - there were no other savoury options, other than cheese scones. Then there were plain scones and fruit scones and two other cakes provided. The scones were a little dry and crumbly and there were just too many of them! A pleasant visit, but not tempted to go back based on this visit. There are better afternoon teas elsewhere.

Sadly this is not the review I would have liked to give. We pre-booked afternoon tea for two at a cost of £37. The scones were very dry and the cakes nothing special and rather 'heavy'. The sandwiches were fresh, but would have liked a few more. The experience was not the treat that we had expected. In my opinion it was definitely not value for money nor was it of the quality I would have expected which is such a shame. Maybe it was an 'off day' who knows - but we shall not be returning. We did make our feelings known and was told that our comments would be passed on.

First visited here before we moved to the area. Loved the quaint, shabby chic interior. Service was amazing, food was very good. We had breakfasts and then had to try the cakes! Drinks were really tasty, all was very good. However, on this basis I booked afternoon tea and requested the ‘snug’. When we arrived the snug was empty but we were not given it, instead another couple of walk in customers who came in after were shown to it, so I was pretty upset that our request had been ignored. We then waited an extraordinary amount of time for our afternoon tea, it seems we had been forgotten. Although the food was tasty and drinks were good again, I don’t think the afternoon tea represents good value, and we are a tad disappointed with the service this time. Worth a visit for coffee and cake, but be prepared to have to wait.

We had excellent friendly service in a great setting. The prices are cheaper than the coffee chains like Starbucks and Costa and the setting infinitely more enjoyable. The people who moan about the prices need to go to the big boys and get a reality check. The only gripes were the cafetière didn’t filter out the coffee grounds very well and my coffee cake was lacking any taste of coffee. This can be easily corrected. All three of our cakes were nicely baked though and nice and moist. We will continue to visit regularly.

The garden was a beautiful place and the tea was nice. I’d heard this place was popular and it certainly looked beautiful but I wouldn’t go again because the food just didn’t have any real flavour. I ordered a biscoff cake with tea and my fiancé ordered a fruit scone with clotted cream and jam with a cappuccino; the cake was sweet but didn’t actually really taste like anything, the coffee was actually unpleasant and the scone was also lacking flavour with a very meagre portion of cream and jam. Disappointing. To top it off, the lady who served us was just plain grumpy which I would have forgiven if the food was great; she was working on a sunny Sunday after all!

This is an absolutely beautiful spot to stop for tea and cake. On a sunny day there’s lots of outside seating and bike racks; inside it’s very prettily decorated and a proper “tea room”. MORE AT TripAdvisor

The location and venue are lovely, however today I had a bad experience with a staff member which left a sour taste in the mouth and for this reason I won't be returning. The first point is about bad communication. I pre-booked a table 24 hours beforehand by phone to take my parents and children for afternoon tea. We saw the afternoon tea on the menu, but in small print underneath it stated that you need to book this 24 hours ahead. The manager then came to our table and said that she had spoken to me on the phone and had asked me whether I wanted the afternoon tea or the menu, and I had chosen the menu. This in itself is confusing since the afternoon tea is on the menu. She said this to me very pointedly and it struck me as being defensive, even passive aggressive, embarrassing me in front of my parents, blaming the customer, and shirking responsibility. I am certain that she had not asked me this, I told her that I had no memory of this, and she did not respond. I then asked if I could have the soup. She replied "If you look on the menu you will see that its only served from Oct-March". Again, an "I am right and its your fault" attitude. She was all smiles, but it really upset me for the rest of the meal. We chose other items on the menu, ate, paid and left, but the whole thing was marred by the way she spoke to me over the afternoon tea.my second point is that the menu is confusing, and it sets people up to be disappointed. I want a menu where everything on it is available to be ordered then and there, not some things that have to be pre-ordered, and some things that are seasonal, in tiny letters underneath. This could be re-designed to be made clearer for customers.I find it unacceptable that I was made to feel this way by a person who was meant to be serving me. I don't mind so much that we couldn't have the afternoon tea, is was that she accused me of something that hadn't happened, it seemed to protect herself and at my expense. I considered writing a private email to the manager but would expect a similar defensive response back, so thought it better to just write a review and let other people know about my experience.

Quite by chance I came across a mention of the tea rooms on the internet while looking for somewhere to take my 90 year old father. The moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly young lady called Lucy who had a little chat and showed us to our table. The menu had just about the right amount of choice and was reasonably priced. The cakes were homemade and tasted delicious! We had the coffee and walnut cake, my dad said it was the best cake he had ever tasted! We will definitely be visiting again...hopefully with better weather to be able to sit outside in the lovely natural gardens.

We visited the tea room with the dog for a Saturday lunch time meal. I cannot ever turn down getting the quiche here as it's always so delicious and they change the flavours daily. I love that you can take dogs into the garden too and they're made to feel just as welcome as any paying customer! My husband always has the coronation chicken baguette and always comments on how tasty it is. We will always choose to return here as we love the food, the service and the setting.

Visited today with my mother and children and what a lovely hidden gem this is! A lovely warm welcome by the staff, a good selection of food to choose from on the menu and all of this in a beautiful, tranquil setting. The breakfast was very good quality, the cheese scone was gobbled up by my 8 yr old and the jacket potato was cooked perfectly. Even the accompanying salad and coleslaw was tasty. Definitely a place we will return to.

I've visited the tea rooms a number of times before, we've been for Mother's Day, birthdays and just because it's lovely. This was my first visit with our baby. The food is lovely and it's such a nice setting, but I really felt like the baby was just a hassle for the staff. As such it'll be a few years (when she's big enough to happily sit in a chair) before I will be able to think about going back. The tearooms don't have actual highchairs, just the strap-on ones. I appreciate highchairs take up valuable space and these little fabric things fold away very small so I understand the reasons for this, however the staff aren't allowed to attach them to the chair for you (due to health & safety). This is fine, but I wasn't given any instructions. The vintage feel of the tearooms means that all the chairs are wobbly and old so the foldable highchair was useless and my baby nearly flipped out of the top. They have a 'no buggy' rule, which again I totally understand because it's very tight for space, but I asked whether I could bring ours in as we were the only people in there and they said no. We were literally the only people eating inside. So I had to eat with the baby on my lap. Obviously anyone with a 10 month old baby knows that this meant a fight for my food and the tablecloth nearly got yanked off quite a few times by little hands. It made it stressful. It's a real shame as it's a lovely little place but this really put me off.

We had been were when it first opened and it was lovely. However, today we went back and thought we were taking a chance because between 1.00 and 2.00 you were lucky to get a seat. But we were shocked as just three tables had customers. We thought we would try a ploughmans as we had one here some time back but we were so disappointed. The roll was just a bread roll, the sort you'd make a hot dog out of. There was a very small apple, a small pickled onion, hardly any salad (just shredded lettuce} and four blocks of chedder cheese that look as if it had been cut from a packet of cheese. We were so disappointed.I used to buy warm scones from here that were delicious but didn't chance it. The new management are trying hard to make the service work, and in this weather I could see a ploughmans with crusty bread, A couple of large pickled onions and some nice cheese, with a crispy salad and a lovely apple would draw people in. And there's no cooking. But at £7.50 each for a very basic lunch, we sadly won't be coming back. They need to get back the lunchtime trade, but will not do it this way.

We visited this quaint old-fashioned tearoom in the village of Southill for the first time and were made to feel very welcome by the lovely ladies working there, who were so friendly and helpful. The tearoom is very small and has a tiny village store and there are not that many tables. However, the tables were beautifully laid with embroidered tablecloths and bone china cups and saucers. They reminded me of the ones my nan used to proudly display in her china cabinet, the only difference was that these ones did not match. We had some lovely home-made cakes and scones and a nice pot of tea at very reasonable prices and the service was excellent. There is a pretty garden where you can sit in the warmer months. We will definitely be back; it is such a lovely place to visit.

My husband and I visited here with our dog today. We were on a dog walk and stumbled upon it, seeing there were other dogs in the garden we thought we'd give it a try as it's sometimes hard to find nice dog friendly places! We sat outside in the sunshine and ordered freshly made sandwiches: coronation chicken baguette and a brie bacon and cranberry sandwich. Both came with crisps and a small side salad with balsamic dressing which was a nice touch. A large variety of drinks were available at very reasonable prices. San Pellegrino cans at £1 each ! The inside of the cafe is lovely with same gift items for sale and a little village store also selling household essentials. Definitely will return to try one of their afternoon teas!

It started well with a good selection on the menu. When we came to order our breakfast sandwiches my friend asked how much it would be to add an egg to her bacon sandwich, at which point the waitress advised that the prices on the menu had increased so weren't correct & could only say they had gone up by about 50p. On asking for a sparkling water she advised that had also gone up by 20p maybe 30p, these increases were due to the cost of living increase. When we questioned why the menus hadn't been updated she advised there were new owners & it hadn't been done yet but that there was a sign on the wall inside the shop advising of the price increase, we were sat outside but to be honest anyone entering the shop wouldn't have seen it as it would have been behind them. She then brought out the A4 sign. She also tried to find an updated menu which she couldn't find. Firstly I am sure this must be illegal to advertise one price & charge another & secondly a hand written note could have been added to the menu or a copy of the price increase attached to the menu which everyone would have seen. Maybe the new owners should hold fire on the price increase until new menus are available as it may save their reputation. The breakfast sandwiches were very tasty, however the 'glass' that accompanied the sparkling water was in fact a jar with a thread for a screw top. Some might call it funky but not to everyone's taste. Needless to say it wasn't used. There are standards which have to be met & the clear advertising of correct pricing is one of them. We are all effected by the cost of living crisis & on occasions when we do our bit to support local businesses we might be watching the pennies too.

A very welcoming experience thanks to the excellent heritage centre guides who knew their stuff and pointed us in the right direction. The Centre is a must visit not just for aged train spotters but for every one. The line has a new future with East West Rail which needs all our support to get locals back on trains. Great coffee and cake made the day.

I stopped in here on the way home, with my daughter and two friends and we felt welcomed immediately… The facilities were clean and checked regularly… The service was quick and we were greeted with a friendly smile. The atmosphere was welcoming and accommodating to someone with a young child. The food was lovely and the staff are friendly, & even made me laugh. Will be stopping in again soon.
