The best restaurants serving British food in Braintree East of England

I know this is really random, but does the name Thomas Pawsey ring any bells? He is my 7th Great grandfather and I believe this used to be his home where he worked as a farmer/farmhand. If so, I'd love to hear more about the history of him and this place!

Waited an hour for a sausage bap and had to get a refund, didn't get told there was a 30 min wait, it's a shame as I've eaten there before but the service received today was not well informed. If you needed cold snacks, drinks, cakes etc you would be fine but cooked food no. Location is nice.

Food carts in the back are brilliant but it's not a cosy pub and seems a bit "old boys"!

Seated and served straight away, food was as always well cooked and very tasty - served today by Kata the manageress who was delightful and very friendly.

Lovely place, wonderful service - but the food was exemplary. I had the fish and chips, and it was possibly the best I've ever had. I asked if they added heroin to the food (it was THAT good) but I'm not sure they got the joke. I'll definitely be going back. Not for the heroin, though.

Never been before but impressed. Really nice fish and chips, very nice atmosphere and the staff went above to be super kind to our kids and us. His name was Mickey.

Would 100% recommend if you want a nice meal with friends family or even a date night the food is amazing and they go out there way to help and make sure your happy nothing is to much for them

We booked a table for our cycling tea stop and couldn't have got better service. They were really busy but we sat on our table on the green and waited patiently for our cakes, scones, bacon baps etc whilst they flew about, gently apologising for the wait. We didn't mind, we could see they were busy. We basked in the sunshine and watched the motorbike riders/cyclists take admiring glances at each other's choice of vehicle! (maybe) Worth the wait for the very reasonable priced food, our waitress filled up our water bottles and told us she had been called in to help. She took our orders at the table so we didn't have to queue and came to collect our payment separately. They were busy but very organised. Thank you very much Picture Pot, we will be back

generally the worst food i’ve ever eaten there was hair in our food and has made us all be extremely ill and can’t get off the toilet

The people serving were really helpful , we tried different things that were on the menu. The place inside is spacious and has charm. Will visit again

The coffee and cake are really delcious at this cafe and the farm shop is very good too with a big choice of fresh and frozen food.

Visited 6th May, small cups for coffee mentioned it to a lady was very pleasant and said they were looking into something as others had mentioned it. Also more cream in middle of the sponges as quite dry otherwise!!

Visited here this week for a bite to eat at lunchtime. The food was fantastic and fresh and great value: Pub is under new management since I last went and they have refurbished the venue. Looks great. The staff were welcoming and polite and the food came out in good time. Will definitely be returning here.
