I & a friend visited this establishment a few days ago. we had to queue up at the counter. there was only one person serving & one person at the back dealing with the prepping of the jacket potatoes & putting the fillings on the the jackets. There were several different fillings on offer, I had a chilli filling & my friend had a plain one with just butter. she asked for plenty of butter on hers & was given 3 tiny pats of butter. We also had a "hot" drink each, me a coffee & she had a chocolate as the cold soft drinks dispenser was not working & there was only bottles of soft drinks available. . The drinks were luke warm. The chilli filling was very tasty, although a tad more chilli would have been even better. When we checked the bill, my friend saw that she had been charged an extra 10p for the extra tiny pat of butter! we noticed a lot of tables still had dirty plates on them, all in all this is the place for a cheap & tasty lunch at fair prices if you have lots of time. A few extra staff would be nice though, as you wouldn't have to wait so long before getting your meal

Unfortunately the food & drink quality here is below average, poor sausages tasteless bacon and terrible coffee.

Visited this gem of a place today after finding out the log cabin has been closed. We not from round here but we definitely will be back and recommend to friends etc, a few little teething problems but to be fair they have only been open for the first time since lockdown so it’s understandable and also sporting a new menu. So to summarise bloody lovely and friendly staff and made the four of us very welcome, thanks again

We arrived at 3pm and were instantly informed that the tea room was closing at 4pm. We wondered if it was already closed as it was partly lit, with very dim lighting and we were informed that the heating had broken down, no apologies were given. The staff were extremely unfriendly and there was a distinct chill in the air not just from the lack of heating. The attitude of the staff was that they could not be bothered and customers were distinctly unwelcome as they were only interested in cleaning the tea room and tidying the tables. Whilst eating our scones that were delicious, staff were sweeping the floor around our feet as if they could not wait for us to leave so they could close up and leave. I bought a few products at the end of our tea and was overcharged by £18.00. When I queried the error I was told by three members of staff that the total charge was correct and when I insisted on seeing the manager he offered me £15-01 in cash even though I had originally paid by debit card. After further lengthy discussion and calculating I eventually received the correct amount of £18-00 in cash. We were extremely disappointed with the service and attitude of the staff, particularly the argument regarding the products purchased, where I was informed many times that I was in error. No apologies were forthcoming and I left the establishment with a nasty taste in my mouth that wasn't caused by the food I had consumed. The manager was less than helpful and when I contacted head office I was told that the errors and sub-standard service were due to staff shortages and inexperienced staff. We have visited many other branches of Wilkins tea rooms throughout Essex and found them all to be excellent with friendly and cheerful service and apologies for delays or when an item on the menu has been unavailable. I would avoid this particular branch like the plague.

I wasn't happy with my order the saveloy was stone cold n hard like it was left over from night before, and also I had cod roe it's meant to be plump and thick unfortunately it was really thin and salty which ruined it for me, and to be honest chips wasn't all that either, however lady who delivered to me was lovely n polite unfortunately the food let it down for me. I wouldn't recommend the chippy to anyone.

Now i know it's quite hard to mess up a egg and bacon roll but you'd be surprised how many cafes make a terrible one. The one i had from tasty bite was sheer perfection! Bacon was cooked just how i like it with no floppy white fat, the egg was really runny and golden and the roll was straight out of oven fresh. Only taking 1 star away because the price is a little high but it's a trend with most cafes since the cost of living crisis.
