The Courtyard Tea Room in Basildon

We arrived at 3pm and were instantly informed that the tea room was closing at 4pm. We wondered if it was already closed as it was partly lit, with very dim lighting and we were informed that the heating had broken down, no apologies were given. The staff were extremely unfriendly and there was a distinct chill in the air not just from the lack of heating. The attitude of the staff was that they could not be bothered and customers were distinctly unwelcome as they were only interested in cleaning the tea room and tidying the tables. Whilst eating our scones that were delicious, staff were sweeping the floor around our feet as if they could not wait for us to leave so they could close up and leave. I bought a few products at the end of our tea and was overcharged by £18.00. When I queried the error I was told by three members of staff that the total charge was correct and when I insisted on seeing the manager he offered me £15-01 in cash even though I had originally paid by debit card. After further lengthy discussion and calculating I eventually received the correct amount of £18-00 in cash. We were extremely disappointed with the service and attitude of the staff, particularly the argument regarding the products purchased, where I was informed many times that I was in error. No apologies were forthcoming and I left the establishment with a nasty taste in my mouth that wasn't caused by the food I had consumed. The manager was less than helpful and when I contacted head office I was told that the errors and sub-standard service were due to staff shortages and inexperienced staff. We have visited many other branches of Wilkins tea rooms throughout Essex and found them all to be excellent with friendly and cheerful service and apologies for delays or when an item on the menu has been unavailable. I would avoid this particular branch like the plague.

A good choice of sandwiches and plenty of tea to drink. Good parking and access for people with disabilities.

Nice place but can be noisy. Good home made food staff are attentive and prices not bad at all. Nice place to go whilst at Barley Lands craft village

Really enjoyed our stop off when we were on site to check out Imperial Bird of Prey - only had time for a cuppa but very welcome

El Terrible personal de servicio pase el dinero, ya que es increíblemente grande olvidar que en las vacaciones escolares colas en la puerta! con nadie tomar el dinero en uno hasta ... Comida Promedio cuentan con un pequeño deli-barra pero no funcionará correctamente si solo quieres coger un rápido Panini o un aperitivo. No admite perros, que parece un poco duras teniendo en cuenta que está en una granja con animales. Que hacer noche especial noches una vez al mes, pero cuando llegué allí una noche de viernes con un amigo estaba cerrado por ninguna nota o mensaje diciendo Por qué fue cancelada más tarde se llama el número de teléfono celular y habían dejado mensajes pero nunca dieron ninguna respuesta. Toc toc no mejor contentos con eso, lo primero antes de asistir a uno de estos eventos.

tastey little place to eat fairly priced too can get very very busy as there is only this place to sit and eat a hot meal

Went there during the Summer half term. Had to queue for 30 minutes, food nothing special although seems to be generous portions. Staff polite but not exactly welcoming or friendly. They were working hard but the management seems to be doing a poor job as only 3 serving the entire tea room which is huge. Definitely would not recommend it unless you have a lot of time and don't really mind about the service and are not a gourmet eater. On the plus side the seating never seemed to be a problem despite a huge number of diners.

Bad service and bland, overpriced food. It's always been like this, and on my recent visit there didn't seem to be any signs of improvement. Had pasta, with a tin of chopped tomatoes dumped on it, and some really gross processed chicken (at least they called it chicken???). Very, very, bland and no amount of salt and pepper seemed to improve the flavour. I strongly advise you take a picnic instead! Or go see how bad it is for yourself, if you're feeling adventurous? Up to you...

The young manager of the resterant started to argue with me because I as waiting 50 minutes for a jacket potato, and told me it was my fault for not having something simple like chips, I asked for details of head office and I got the awnser of I'm running this place, needless to say once I got my money back after a argument I won't be going their again £6.95 for a jacket .... Rediculious
