Tasty food but the sign outside says generous portions. Our meals were small and we paid an extra £1.50 for the smallest piece of garlic bread I have ever seen.how mean. For meals that come with onion rings that means just two.how mean. Reservation made before hand not honoured.waste of time phoning up. Easy improvements could make this nice place much more satisfying.

Popped in with the family on our travels home, staff were friendly and the place was clean! Not visited before but will definitely be visiting again!

I visited last night for the first time and was met by Mia who was an absolutely amazing host! Working on a busy Saturday evening on a bank holiday understandably staff may sometimes not be as welcoming but this totally wasn't the case! I was then served by Ben who was behind the bar equally as welcoming and friendly. Food, drinks and atmosphere were all lovely. There are interactive darts boards and shuffleboard!Unfortunately, there was a lady (I think was called Claire) who was quite rude not only to myself but seemed to be to other staff members.Mia and Ben are an asset to the team and I look forward to coming back soon x

Wow! The food was ment to be a sizzling chicken big plate but was served cold, with more than half the food missing. AVOID

Friendly staff. Ovens were down but quickly fixed. I had the mixed grill which was absolutely dirt cheap. I can’t explain how cheap it was. The pineapple was chargrilled within an inch of its life but I had a pleasant lunch. The thing that ruined the experience were the patrons who were slightly too intoxicated for a lunch time. But meh, each to their own

Long wait to be served, no wine glasses, utterly disgusting smelly toilets. Dirty grubby tables, nothing good about the place.

The refurb is great - 1st class. The Sports bar has pool tables, interactive dartboards and even a shuffle board (about 20 feet long with electronic scoring). However, there is NEVER enough staff. The bar is 2 deep all night and getting even tipsy is hard unless you order 3 rounds at a time. If they had 2 or 3 more staff this place could take a fortune. Fingers crossed they sort this.

After the food was ordered, our group of 8 people then waited an hour and a half for food to start arriving, however one meal was wrong and two meals were inedible and we're sent back untouched. Staff was suitably apologetic and refunded the untouched meals without question, but I consider this as very poor experience.

Really nice refurbishment good food and great prices for food and drink they have a extra bar which stays open til 12.30am

We have been to the Four Seasons a couple of times before and have really enjoyed the food. Would recommend to anyone within range of the Four Seasons to come here either for a drink or for a meal. When we ordered today we were served by a man named Tom who was helpful and welcoming and all the staff were happy to help in anyway

Overall i love the food here . The price is perfect. This is such a casual but nice place to come and would highly recommend to others.

Renovation very nice. Good sports bar. Meals were ok - cheap and cheerful as you’d expect for a hungry horse. But STILL failing to wipe down and clean tables and menus!!! How hard is it to keep them clean between customers?! Have always had trouble finding a clean table to sit at and now have to take my own wipes every time! Asked the waitress to wipe the table and asked why they don’t get cleaned with antibact between customers and was told they are not allowed to bring it out into the dining room, so she bought out a wet tissue to wipe the table. Not sufficient! Menus are always sticky and filthy

Visited recently and was surprised to find excellent value for money for some very tasty and nicely cooked food. Everywhere all clean as it has just been refurbished. Would not hesitate to recommend to others

Thought we would try this place as it’s just been refurbished and has always been good value for money in my opinion. We had the two for £9.99 menu and the food came out piping hot and both meals were lovely. Highly recommended!

Been a few times over the years. The pub had just gone through a modernisation and refurbishment program...As always the food is delivered in a timely fashion and hot, the staff are polite and friendly and the new Over 18’s sports bar section looks great too...Only minor criticism I would have is that there ain’t enough plug sockets around for the social media hungry people...

Hungry horse pub restaurant visited recently with friends. Staff really pleasant ordered drinks on arrival and shown to our table. Food choice was amazing . I had mega mixed grill certainly lived up to its name, cooked to perfection and good price. Dessert was syrup sponge and custard large helping and cheaper than other venues. Would recommend and certainly be back. Downside was non alcoholic drinks only served in 1pint measure.

Great friday night out. There was a band as it was the last Friday and it was excellent! Didn’t eat on this occasion and although it was very busy the bar staff served efficiently and remembered your drinks so sped up the serving time.

Value for money and good choice of food especially with kids. Once the kids area is reopened will be far better.

came here with my husband and daughter. I couldnt eat my chicken as it was slimy. so i sent it back and they said we could have a pudding. So we ordered a candy mania sundae. And im guessing that because it was a freebie they couldnt b bothered to do a proper 1. It had a tiny corner of a cookie and a few maltesers and m&ms. My husband also ordered a steak sizzler. It didnt come up on a sizzler plate. it came on a normal pkate with no onions or peppers. And my daughter had burger chips and veg sticks. The carrots were brown and soft. All in all i wouldnt come here again for food it was disgusting.

Food is average, can be hit and miss. Regular customer with work colleagues for a cheap and cheerful lunch or drink.I ordered southern fried chicken wrap and chips, this was fine and cooked well.My colleagues had all day breakfast, curry, jacket potato and steak and salad. No complaints there. A few times i have been over the last 18months, the service has been a bit on and off. Some staff didn't seem to be bothered about their customers. Today, it looks like the staff have had an upgrade of service skills. The bar lady and two waitresses were very friendly and helpful.In summary, cheap and cheerful!In summary, cheap and cheerful.

We went for dinner today 11.30am. Sunday 30th June. Had to wait till 12.20 for the carvery to be ready ( supposed to be 12 start). Carvery was good except roast potatoes hardly cooked. This is why they got a 1 score. Dirty tables. Overgrown gardens. Standards absolutely disgusting. Cannot believe how bad they were. Filth everywhere including fag butts and lack of care everywhere. Simply you can see that there is no care at all with this place. In loved and no one cares. We will not go back as we moved 3 times to find a clean table. Not one of them had a complete set of condiments or cleans menus. Disgraceful!!

Went to order 4 dinners no large curry, no large fish!Then they very strangely found large fish!Tables where filthy dirty! Food all over the floor! Food eventually came! Thick batter no fish, chicken which my daughter ordered on a separate order. Was flat, watery no taste!We ordered sweet as half of us had not eaten half the dinner.I had a Calypso coffee. Once again totally have no staff know what that is! I received a cuppa of coffee with a shot of some sort of spirit with milk!Never again would I visit this place

I thought where can I go on a weekday night for my birthday , in Basildon and have a great meal. No question . Has to be the four seasons . Good food , good quality , good value and decent portions . And a great place to celebrate a landmark in my life.

Every special occasion we book here for the family room, staff and quality of food. Or though in hot months there is definitely fans or air conditioning needed, if not for customers then for your staff as it was so hot on Saturday!

Food good kids play area very dis organised my grandson is 5 and 1st of all it was great with age range from 1.5 to 8 then mayhem hit us parents with children from 10 upwards as tall as adults came in running about and the younger ones were getting hurt . I think there should be a height restriction to go in play area . And a member of staff present at all times as some parents do not keep an eye on their children and also with a member of staff they can keep an eye on how many are in the play area as its stipulates maximum of 43 . How do they check .

Restaurant is perfect for kids. My daughter loves going here as the food is perfect and it has a soft play

Was there for a private party. To start with we had to ask the staff to remove people who they had seated in our private room! There was only one person serving at the bar, which on a Saturday evening is pretty ridiculous, We had to wait far too long for our food and were told that there would be a 40 minute wait between starters and main courses! They then messed the order up and gave us a starter no one had ordered and forgot one of the main courses. The food was below average for the cost. My burger was no better than something I'd get from a burger van. Overall very underwhelmed.

It was more like a nightclub than a restaurant, glasses being chucked and fighting at the bar with glass nearly hitting me I ran over to my children frightened.

We found long hair in two of our meals. Both different kinds of hair so possible the kitchen staff do not wear hair nets. Doesn’t appear to be very hygienic

A very reasonably priced meal if you want something reasonably priced in a pub like setting. Look out for different deals on different days!

We used to use two other popular food chains but became less and less satisfied every time so we tried The Hungry Horse Laindon.It is just off the busy A127 but in a nice quiet treed off area, it is a friendly well run restaurant and the food is of a very high standard.you don't have to book just turn up find a table that suits you, take order to the bar and give table number.I go there once a month at least and have no wish to go anywhere else

I have been drinking and eating in this bar for years on and off. And have started visiting these premises recently after not returning after terrible bar service. Once again they have lost my custom. I had a lovely breakfast at lunchtime with a pint and when finished I went to the bar for a pint, I watched a young girl serve everyone else but me but I hung in there as I know lunch time service is busy but I had to walk out after 10 minutes being ignored.Four seasons need to train there staff to look at there paying guests or you will lose more and more customers.

Waited 10mins starters, 40 mins for mains. Good value to 2 mains £12. Chicken New Yorker with 4 chicken breasts. Gammon dinner. Would recomend.

Nice food with large selection also caters for non gluten, friendly atmosphere, good prices, large variety of drinks

Went to visit to Watch Scotland v Wales in the six nations rugby and asked if the tv could be changed from bbc news to bbc and was given a blatant NO. Posters and banners all over the pub advertising to come and watch it. Will not visit ever again. I’d be embarrassed to be part of this establishment

Toilets were filthy the Windows were so dirty it was hard to see out of them.long wait for food and then it was cold and over done

Rude staff, food was inedible when we raised our concerns we were dismissed by staff one woman walking away whilst we were talking to her the play area is an extra charge (which it isn’t at other hungry horses) and not worth £3 for 2 hours at all

Enjoyed the steak it was cooked well and the chips were hot and tasty. We didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive and we enjoyed our lunch time visit.

Food is good value. Take a peg for using the toilets! It could all do with a good clean. Staff were very nice and food choices were excellent too.

Having visited on several occasions, because it's local, cheap and not bad value, we have put up with the so slow bar every time we visit, waiting and waiting to be served they never seem to have no more than 1 person serving, so think they must be very understaffed in that dept., The last time we visited, the walkway to the toilets stank of urine, I thought maybe it's coming from the Gents with the wind blowing in the wrong direction, but it was still like it on this visit (several weeks later), which is unacceptable for a place selling food and with play areas for children, so they have to walk through that awful smell also, to get to the toilets. The food, well where to start, we visited with my mum, grandson and his girlfriend and my husband, myself and the girlfriend ordered similar dishes; sharing platters, hers was a chicken and mine was a mega sharer or something, when the first 2 plates come out the waitress stated one was a chicken sharer, so it went to the girlfriend, 5 or so minutes later when another waitress arrived she also stated that she had a chicken sharer dish, we said 'no, that should be a mega sharer', 'no' she said, pointing at the girlfriends plate, 'that's the mega sharer' this is the chicken sharer' well we were told it was chicken and the girlfriend was already eating hers, well it's not she said and just stood there with the plate in her hand, 'what are you going to do about it then' I asked, as she just stood there probably waiting for me to say, I'd have it. 'What do you want me to do' she answered not completely without sarcasm , 'I want what I ordered', I said, 'I'll get chef to cook another one' she said and off she went, by this time the others had, had there meals for nearly 10 minutes and no one had cutlery or sauces and were picking at their meals with chips, even though we had mentioned it twice! The waitress came back and did then apologise and brought cutlery and sauces, my over cooked meal arrived 10 minutes after that, but was only warm, the chicken in the gougon's was non existent as they were so overcooked. Then the toilet visit, yuck, yuck, yuck! We will not return, this place has gone down hill very rapidly.

The four Seasons is fairly local and we have visited many times but today's visit was very disappointing. Service was slow and staff showed no real concern when our order was mixed up resulting in my wife having to eat her meal after the rest of our party had finished. No one returned to check if our meals were Ok and it took a good half hour for table to be cleared. My Curry was over cooked and not appetising and my wife left half her meal which she said was also over cooked. Hungry Horse offer plenty of food for your money but sadly the downside is that the food on the plate and the service is lacking. Need to up their game. Will we be back? sadly probably not.

I would not recommend this place

Stopped to do some admin for work , bought drink and food , food poor quality , toilets were disgusting and very smelly . Staff would benefit from customer service training as appear to be more interested in chatting with each other than serving .

Where do i start!! The place smells like a sewer and it appears the resteraunt/pub has not been cleaned for some time! Either the management are nose blind or have lost all ability to run a successful public house! Don't put your family at risk by eating here!!

I usually go here quite often as close to home, reasonably priced and the children love the soft play area but I feel today could be my last visit. I couldnt believe the smell not only of the smelly feet in the soft play area but the toilets were absolutely horrendous. So much so, that my friend left early to go home to use hers. The toilets were full of limescale. In my opinion it smelt worse than a care home. They need to either employ some decent cleaners and hope a miracle works or knock it down and start again...I know what I would do!

This is the second time recently I’ve been here once was for my sons birthday just me my husband and our son the indoor soft play is a great idea but it appsolutly stunk of old feet!!! The tables where covered in food and sticky drinks that had been spilt no one came to clean the table the whole time so I had to do it our meal was ok reasonably priced. We then went again just for a drink as I was with my sister and her 3 kids the smell was the same tables dirty we had a glass of wine each in a dirty glass while sitting there noticed the carpet threadbare and mould and dust on the wall the toilets stunk really needed a good clean needs a good revamp and new carpets painting and a deep clean could be really nice such a shame.

was nice food but long wait and we were warned at any time that this would be the wait. we visited same time week before and that time was fine. we did find the same broken chair was still in use though. and as my daughter had hurt her hand the week before and told the manager we though chair should of been removed.

Price wise it's really good and have come on previous occasions and been very pleased, however standards seem to have gone down hill very fast. Tables uncleaned, wait at bar to be served for long periods. Food that would seem to be reheated from the day before as tough and no taste to it, toilets filthy.

Shocking place to eat, place is dirty, staff are slow and don't care. I was in a party of 20, the first to order but everyone got their food and deserts and I was still waiting for my food, I had to mention it twice and when it did come, people in my party were leaving and the food was cheap and nasty. I moaned again and the staff didn't care. HOWEVER I have been to 2 other branches, Romford and Rayleigh and its totally a different experience. I will never go back here and I now know people from my party have been back to suffer the same terrible experience!!! ITS A STAY AWAY PLACE

I visited here with my family, prices are reasonable and portion sizes good, but the place has an unpleasant smell to it, most of the furniture looks scruffy/worn and dirty. I had my children with me and all we could hear was loud men swearing in the bar area. We left our food and left the place never to return!! The play area smells of stale sweat and vomit, i would not allow my children to play in there. I wish i had read the reviews on here first as we obviously all cannot be wrong.

We visited this establishment on Easter Saturday. Worse meal I have ever had in any restaurant. Noisy, poir lighting which made it difficult to read the menu, dirty tables which were not wiped even after we sat down and litter all over the floor. It took some time for our meal to be brought to the table. The food was awful, our son said his chicken New Yorker was ok but his chips were under cooked; the Quadziller Burger had patties that tasted like the very worst cheap burgers you could buy and were over cooked; the pastry on the Cow Pie was really think and stodgy, there was very little beef in it and it seemed to have been heated in a microwave! Chips were greasy and very bitty. Then dessert, Millionaires Cheesecake had a soggy bottom which seemed more like raw dough than a biscuit base. The Apple Crumble had the most foul tasting crumble which tainted the otherwise tasteless apple and there was no sweetness in any part of this sad excuse for an Apple Crumble. Will never return, our cat eats better than the food served here.

This place it is horrible we waited over an hour for our starters and mains to come all together we had to ask three times were our food was as we noticed people that had arrived after us was eating away after our long hour wait the dry over cooked dishes arrived to make it worst it was cold the onion rings looked like they had come off of some elses the chicken skewers were way over done so much so we could not get them off the skewers there was very little sauce which we did ask for extra sauce on the side which caused an argument with the rude waitress that made a point of stating that it comes on the chicken not on the side would'nt mind but I had paided extra for it. The cold chicken wings that did not have any franks hot sauce we told our server that the food was cold he just stood there lookig at us then asked if he could have a feel of the chicken after touching our food he then said that they felt okay to him we was just looking at him thinking has he just put his hand all over our food and disputing whether they were hot or cold and after being quite stern they were taken away in all my experience of eating out this is a new one on us never ever have we been asked if our food could be touched we was just staring at him thinking what the hell is doing and if he was acutally okay. the staff are argumentative inexperienced and miserable and as for the disgusting smelly toilets they are rank the baby changing faculties are dirty and vile the last person who used it could not be bothered to clean it there was a dirty nappy chucked on the floor of the Men's toilet paper all over the floor I don't know how on earth this place has managed to get a five star rating don't waste your money there's other places to eat processed food that is cooked well and a lot cleaner

I got my money back from here a couple of months ago after being served what was supposed to be a chicken New Yorker, it came up as a diy kit with a mess of cheese bacon and sauce on a side plate, this was the third time I had sent meals back and I vowed never to return but this week was my sons birthday so 5 of us went on Saturday night, the place looked like a bomb had gone off, there was food and mess all on the tables and floor, we found a table that was covered in plates, glasses, food and dirty napkins etc, I asked one of the waitresses if they could clean it and 3 came up so obviously not understaffed, they cleared the plates and glasses and I couldn't b it when the young girl wiped all the food onto the floor! Then she gave my son the cloth to wipe his end of the table his self!!!!! UNREAL

I went to the Hungry Horse at Laindon today for a friends child's birthday. It was really nice and the kids had a great time, until it was time to go home and my son couldn't find his trainers. Unfortunately they were no where to be found and seems some tamp had taken them. What kind of person takes a child's pair of trainers?? What kind of person has no thought for the child that is left going home with no shoes?? Safe to say I will never go back to this place again.

The food is cheap but food portion sizes. Good as a hangover cure and never left here hungry.... normally can't leave as so full. They do roasts as well I think. Tend to have special day options. The only down side is the staff appear miserable and the service is actually quite slow. I went with one other person and the order took forever to be brought to the table. No reason as wasn't busy. Just slow. When it did come the bloke who bought it may as well have just lashed it across the building as just dolloped it down and swanned off as quickly as he left. Note to the people who control this.... do something to inspire your staff as the atmosphere was spoiled. Have been a couple of times.... will try to avoid this place as the one in Rayleigh has a much better feel to it

I have been there several times, so please don't think the bad review is a one off, the staff are miserable,don't smile,uninterested in quality of food , I had fish and chips there a few weeks ago with a friend , the fish was crunchy, so was the batter, fish dry hard didn't really taste of anything,told a staff member who just said oh sorry about that I'll let the chef know?drinks were flat, the only nice thing was LEAVING!Won't be going back there in a hurry or ever! Came out £20 lighter for a completely horrible experience.

Wouldn't rush back to this place. Been twice but both times was not over impressed. Yes it's cheap and nice garden to sit in but the quality of the food isn't brilliant. Jacket potato first time around which was cold and not cooked properly and lasagna the second time which reminded me of a microwave meal.

Daughter has just moved near to this pub/restaurant. Favourite place to eat is The Moorhen, Harlow. This is another Hungry Horse and it did not dissappoint food great, good value and good service.

This place is fairly local to us therefore my wife and I visit for a drink and meal, or just a drink, every month or so. Despite some negative comments about the place, we`ve always found the staff to be plentiful, friendly, polite and efficient. The food is great value and a good range is on offer in true Hungry Horse tradition, however, on occasions a menu option may not be available, so have a second choice option ready - commonplace in establishments such as this. The place is clean, but can feel very full and noisy at peak times. Treat it for what it is - its a pub for all, offering a wide range of drinks and has an extensive menu which offers excellent value. If you want a romantic candlelit meal and bespoke food, you will be disappointed!

Have been to a number of Hungry Horses and you get what you pay for, never had a problem at any and this one was as good if not better than others. Although busy food cam in 15 mins which was marvellous near Christmas. Staff were polite, starter main and dessert were v.good and beer was well kept. Yes its a little crowded and tables were occupied ommediately after they were vacated but the waiting staff came soon after people sat down to clear up. I have no problem recommending for pub food at great prices but not for haute cusine because its not what they purport to do!!erowded and busy

I went there with a friend having been pre warned that the food wasn't very good, though I personally hadn't had bad food out of there before. With this in mind I decided to opt for a burger as you can't normally go wrong. Well how wrong was I! Firstly I decided to have a shandy which turned out to be the flattest shandy I have ever had. We waited a little while for our food, but the waitress that served us apologised for our wait. The burger looked quite alright, then I took a bite..... The but part of the bun was rock hard, the burger was so burnt it was like eating cardboard, the bacon was like eating elastic bands. I also orders a side of onion rings. I have no idea what they are made from but they tasted of nothing, they were just mush. Like something you would get from the frozen section in Lidl, though I could probably get 3 full bags of onion rings for the price I paid for 6 individuals. The only nice part of my meal were the chips. I should have sent my meal back but I was just so hungry I ate what I could. We didn't once get asked if everything was ok with our food. Just "are you done".We decided to skip dessert as we weren't willing to waste further money on food I wouldn't even feed to my dogs.I definitely will not be returning, nor recommending!Stay clear!

Went to a birthday party and was appalled with the food at the buffet it cost 600 and only had on table with a few sandwiches, crisps, a bowl of salad and chicken strips. The sweet table wasn't much better. It's a good job everyone didn't turn up are they wouldn't have been enough. Luckily it didn't spoil it for the birthday girl who had a fab timeMy advice is not to choose this place for functions

Fairly average food although I ordered my steak rare and when it came to the table it was well done but staff felt with it immediately and new plate of food was cooked and steak was cooked exactly as requested staff polite and reasonable value for money especially as had £5 voucher from website

Had a chicken new yorker large I was disappointed with as they asked me if I wanted large or small I said large and the meal came up small .Service was good though.

Called in today for a quick coffee, immediately met with a big smile from Amy, the place caters for everyone and was very clean. A fabulous community pub.

Food is good for the price and plenty to entertain the kids service can be a bit slow on busy days but worth a visit

we go there very often nice food good prices staff always helpful always cleaning tables. Buzzing around doing something toilets always clean never have to wait long to be served at the bar or food to arrive thumbs up to them
