I'm a regular here, eat in & takeaway, & I love their food (both vegetarian & meaty). I've been eating here on average every other week for 3 years. There have been a few times where the sauce seemed like a substitution & not as good as usual, or they haven't had all the ingredients to make the full meal i'd usually order, but with a few small exceptions they're consistently excellent. I'd highly recomend you try this place.

A deeply disappointing meal. The beef soup was overly salty with a watery broth that lacked any real depth or richness. The so-called spicy tofu was anything but—it had barely any heat and was drowning in an unbalanced sauce. Given the restaurant’s reputation, I expected far better execution and flavour. Wouldn’t return.

Service was great but the food itself was horrid. Took one bite of my meal and the doner meat meal (mixed) was different temperatures, with the lamb being cold and the chicken being lukewarm. Overall taste wasn't there either. Very likely that I caught acute food poisoning.

¡Decepcionante!

Nothing special - broiled chicken, not very flavourful. When asking for the bill just presented with the card machine with service charge added. Won’t return….

Chamcham laddu, sus dulces y sabrosos son regulares deshi. Su no es nuestro fuchka Tipo de Bangladesh, me hubiera gustado que el uso más abundante de especias y el sabor es bueno.

Good food friendly service. Basic but meets the needs. Fill up and booze away. cheap alcohol meant the night was wholesome. worth a visit.

This isn’t a recent visit - though I did do a takeaway few weeks back and Jay Rayner’s immortalisation in his cookbook makes me go back memory lane. I went here in 2016 on a recommendation whilst my days as a grad student at the LSE and homesick for some decent North Indian food. Technically it isn’t “North Indian” but broadly “Punjabi” and this is, I assume pre-Partition. I had lovely memories of eating through Old Delhi during my college days - a slice of history that the city was preserving in the changing political climate through culinary traditions. The food at Tayyabs was absolutely fantastic and I’d take my friends (and even my Polish BF turned husband back then - first taste of real curry, tandoori, naan etc) to give them a “taste of home”… We both had an ongoing joke about how we got to Tayyabs before it got famous and all buzzing… Gorgeous curries, decadent Peshawari Naans and if I remember well, even Phirni to finish and wash it down with Lassi. Back then, I don’t believe people knew about Jay Rayner and Tayyabs together- which was great because it was less crowded - and probably the food was more to my liking, luscious, rustic and closer to home. I must admit that I’ve lost the old enthusiasm to hop to behind Ali Altab to eat but I must - if not for anything but to re-write this again. But definitely old school goodness and one of my only reasons back then to take the bus 78/15 from Bermondsey to Aldgate.
