Yokoso in Tower Hamlets

I'm a regular here, eat in & takeaway, & I love their food (both vegetarian & meaty). I've been eating here on average every other week for 3 years. There have been a few times where the sauce seemed like a substitution & not as good as usual, or they haven't had all the ingredients to make the full meal i'd usually order, but with a few small exceptions they're consistently excellent. I'd highly recomend you try this place.

Do NOT order Deliveroo/takeaway from this restaurant. Thoroughly disappointing , ended up in the bin after a few mouthfuls, ‘deep fried’ pork cutlet in plum sauce - the pork was soggy, wet and falling apart, there was NO plum sauce of any description( a phone call explained it’s cooked in the sauce - no chance , no sweetness was evident or a sauce of any kind) and a random overcooked egg thrown in for good measure. Why are good takeaways so hard to find!

Hadn’t had food this bad in so long that I had kind of forgot food could be this underwhelming. Tempura prawns were just raw prawns, not tempura. Rice was starchy and gluggy. Egg on my tonkatsu was just blatantly gross; couldn’t tell if it was poached, fried, raw or something else… was just some sort of eggy consistency. Also was not mentioned on the menu. I’m aware tonkatsu is supposed to come with an egg, but in other places on the menu eggs are listed so I assumed it mustn’t come with it. Was pretty annoying it did come with eggs, which I don’t like (especially when they’re done so badly). Obviously, this is even more of a problem if you’re allergic. Upon reviewing the restaurant on Google, they were at least fast to respond! Got a quick message saying that they had nothing to apologise for as their chefs know what they’re doing and they instructed me to google how to cook japanese food. I’ve tried plenty of japanese restaurants around London and learnt how to cook it myself to some degree so I’d like to think I have a somewhat valid judgement. But yeah, there was just zero consideration from from the restaurant that they might be at some fault or that there may have been an issue with my order. Really poor customer service. Feels like that Kitchen Nightmares show where they critique bad restaurants and the owners just don’t want to hear any of it lol.

1st visit, on the recommendation of an East London foodie friend. Walked 20min from Canary Wharf & glad we did. Small place, tables spaced but some closer than 2m which I don't mind given we were back to back at that distance. Great sushi, salmon shushimi & table BBQ. Less than £22 per head with a drink each. Do have a take away for lockdown month & go when open again.

We ordered takeaway Eel bibimbap, Kalbi, Seafood pajeon and Teriyaki chicken wings for dinner over the weekend. The delivery was extremely fast and efficient - the food came within 30 minutes of ordering and still hot on arrival. The portion size was very good and it was clear the quality of the food and packaging was to a commendable standard. I was particularly surprised at the Eel bibimbap and Kalbi - the Eel was succulent and tender, the Kalbi was cooked excellently and tasted authentic, and both dishes were also much larger in portion size than anticipated! Overall, this was absolutely fantastic and I will definitely be ordering again.

We ordered takeaway and were very excited to try as we’ve been meaning to visit the restaurant for some time. Containers with meat had broken and leaked all over vegetarian dishes. Vegetarian dishes flavourless and greasy, sent MEAT gyoza instead of the VEGETABLE gyoza we ordered - thanks for an awful meal. Spent £50 and threw almost all of it away. Do not recommend.

I had been looking for a Korean around the Isle of Dogs for ages - no idea how I missed Yokoso Korean & Japanese. Anyways, one fine day I headed there with my wife and we loved it. This place is all about the food. Don't go there if you want fancy seating or impress your companions - you eat here because the Korean and Japanese food is authentic and there is lots of it - a very long menu. My wife and I picked from all over the menu and keep heading back to try new options. My favorite place to eat in the area.

Don’t usually write reviews but so disappointed with how much they charge for what you actually get. Seaweed salad had hardly any seaweed and was mostly lettuce for almost £7... and the chirashi bowl only had a few pieces of fish. Dragon roll was small but almost £10. I can get much better sushi for cheaper elsewhere so won’t be ordering again

This place was amazing too bad not many people know of this hidden gem but i went there with a group of 5 just before sunset and the view was just as good as the food and the place was actually very empty, 2 friends who ordered the same thing weren’t too fond of their noodle dish but know that it was the choice of udon (large) rather than soba (thin) that had put them of and the other 2 friends enjoyed their dishes but wasn’t satisfied with the spice level which everyone has different tolerance of however, my dish (yukgae jang) was amazing! the deokbokki was extremely chewy and nice too! The staff were also helpful when asking for takeaway boxes and any questions we had about dishes and a little extra note the place were playing k-ost and some kpop songs in the background!

The restaurant was a really good find - we were staying at Canary Wharf and wanted an authentic Asian food place. The menu includes Japanese and Korean dishes, and is extensive. The ambience is informal yet very pleasant, not crowded, the staff helpful but without imposing. We had a bottle of plum wine and three different dishes (pork belly bulgogi, crispy plum chicken and hot rice rolls) - everything was delicious! As a bonus, it was also -by far- a cheaper option than any other Asian restaurant in the whole area. Strongly recommend!

The Yakitori and prawn tempura were lovely - the fried chicken was fatty and a little undercooked and the Onomiyaki was dry and heavy.

For my boyfriend's birthday he selected this restaurant to try, although the location isn't superb - a bit of a trek for some people, but a restaurant I wished I had in my community. He booked a table online which was easy and the service was great when he arranged to move the table reservation to a different time. We were after sushi and the restaurant didn't disappoint; there was a great selection of sashimi, maki and other sushi classics presented in simple yet eye-catching manner. The star of the show was the crispy duck special rolls; I don't know what I was expecting but what I got was a warm, potentially fried duck sushi roll which was absolutely divine and a real treat. The service was great with attentive staff, pleasant atmosphere and a decent overall price. Will certainly come again if I am over in that part of London

I had to call the restaurant to have news at 22:17 and I received the food only at 22:31. I have found the wasabi directly inside my dish and not aside I am not happy at all. Even the noodles are not good.

Having lamented the dearth of good Japanese food along the DLR line we were cautiously hopeful on seeing the 4 point something rating on Deliveroo. All was not to be unfortunately. The chirashi I had filled no more than a third of the takeaway bowl it came in, and the salmon while marginally better than the run-of-the-mill chain store types was sliced so thinly it could pass off as Vietnamese spring roll wrapper. The tofu was the plainly the product of amateur cooking - even I could do better. The quest for a good restaurant continues..

Food was delivered 30 minutes past the delivery time. Restaurant was not answering the phone. The sushi was not cold and the appetizer that was supposed to be cooked and heated was delivered cold. Definitely will not be ordering from the restaurant again.

The rainbow sushi was not that i ordered ( missing some ingredients and messy) my boyfriend didn't get sushi sticks, wasabi and ginger. It was for one portion only. This was a meal for two but incomplete,and lack of taste 😕😣😨

We tried KFS, beef bibimbap, salmon/avocado and mango/green tea ice cream. Each dish, apart from the sushi, was very good. Sushi were a bit poor because of a very small amount of fish in them. We would prefer to have a possibility to pay more and have a decent sushi set. Ice cream was perfect. Waiters were very nice and welcoming. Overall the dinner deserves to be marked “excellent”, and, we will come back again. Thank you!

Always quick delivery and nice food

Had a great lunch with friends- we were in a big group. Had lots of different things to share - sushi plasters, bbq meat, noodles, fried chicken as some of the dishes. All were cooked wonderfully in Japanese or Korean style and we enjoyed the taste and variety. Staff were friendly and looked after us well. The venue is in the isle of dogs area but easy to get to via for or bus from Canary Wharf . Will recommend .

Very nice food and pleasant environment. Value for money if you’re paying by cash. Only let down was the service... not very welcoming from the staff even though it wasn’t busy. Menu quite extensive with Japanese and Korean dishes. Works pretty well... definitely recommended and bring cash for the 10percent discount.

And I’ve had a few Chicken Katsu curries in my time. Strangely the takeaway menu is better than the dine in version of the same meal as they don’t package the whole meal with rice and pickles together for some reason. Still great though

I ordered chicken gyoza, spicy edamame and egg fried rice. Spicy edamame beans were very flavourful, chicken gyoza were alright and the egg fried rice can be better. The delivery guy was friendly and the food arrived on time.

It was probably the WORST Japanese food we have ever had. We ordered a Chicken teriyaki don, salmon ikura don and kalbi. The Chicken was rock hard, didn't even feel like chicken, the portion of the salmon ikura don was tiny, salmon was not fresh and ikura tasted off. Kalbi (the beef) was very overcooked. 10/10 WOULD -NOT- RECOMMEND!!!!! :(

My boyfriend and I are a fan of sushi and Korean food, found this place through google. Even though it's bit of a struggle to find the restaurant, the great food and free parking was worth it! Would highly recommend this place.

Fui con mi esposa visitar Londres para el fin de semana. Disfrutamos mucho de cocinar tú mismo barbacoa coreana y su coctail del mismo nombre como el lugar. El servicio era una maravilla y me pareció que era muy buena relación calidad-precio. Está metido un poco, así que es bastante la joya escondida.

When I ordered, I put down time request as 14:50. After that I received a call from the restaurant asking if it could be earlier, so I said yeah sure as long as you are ready. Turned out the delivery came at 15:10. Don't ask if you can delivery the service as said!

This place does not serve authentic Korean food! Don't eat here not worth it you're better off going to koreatown or central London for REAL Korean food. As for there Japanese and sushi its average nothing special tbh

We ate here on a Sunday, when the restaurant was completely empty apart from ourselves so atmosphere was lacking. However, the food was delicious and there was loads of choice. We had a mixture of Korean and Japanese food including bibimbap, kimchi, okonomyaki, tempura, takoyaki and Korean bbq meat. Everything was delicious (although the kimchi was a little spicy for me ) and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Prices and portion sizes were reasonable and wines were good too.

Reasonably priced. We love the Korean bbq, it's one of our favourite meals. There is always plenty of food and we are never disappointed. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Came to Yokoso on a friend's recommendation and it's certainly a nice local Japanese to have around! We tried the sushi, gyoza and the bibimbap and all dishes were good. The staff were welcoming and the restaurant generally had a good atmosphere. All in all a good visit to place I'm likely to return to though not in a hurry.

20 minutes late, when I called was told the driver had several deliveries and was on his way-another 15 mins later arrived. Food was cold, beer was warm, not microwaveable so ruined.

Food was good and delivery was on time. However the portion has shrunk for Chirashi Zushi, that is marked at £12.50 but I felt like we only get half of what it's worth in terms of portion.

I have been to Yokoso a couple of times when I wanted Japanese/Korean food, but didn't want to go to central London. The food has always been pretty good, the dish I don't recommend is the Korean seafood pancake which was too thick for my taste. The restaurant offers you free parking.

Been here a few times now and a great experience every time. The sashimi and sushi is always fresh and the portions are generous. The korean food is a must here. The tofu bibimbap is excellent and the spicy plum korean chicken is also not to be missed.

l'endroit est certes un peu isolé dans son environnement, mais la cuisine y est vraiment très bonne. Une belle selection de plats japonais et coréens, pour se convaincre qu'il y a une vie gastronomique en dehors des plats ´snacks': sushis, makis, teppanyakis, etc.. il y en a bien sûr à la carte, mais elle recelle aussi bien d'autres choses à découvrir.. c'est savoureux, c'est copieux, bien présenté et bien servit. Difficile de venir à bout des Bibimpap tellement ils sont variés et copieux, et les aubergines cuites à l'huile et au sésame surprennent avec leurs saveurs de bananes. Ce restau est une vraie découverte, avec des prix raisonnables autour de 30 livres par personne sans se priver. Un petit bémol pour l'ambiance un peu froide de la salle, la musique JPop ou KPop un peu trop présente, et le personnel qui a un peu de mal parfois à s'exprimer pour expliquer les plats. Mais ça n'en reste pas moins une très belle adresse pour découvrir "autre chose" dans la gastronomie japonaise ou coréenne.

Ordered the Unagi and got about 30 grams of eel... ? Did you guys run out? 12 pounds for 30g eels and the rest rice.. not worth. Delivery time was good. Prob wont come back again. Portions too small. But they give you plenty of rice! :)

We have been to Yokoso on numerous locations and I’d definitely recommend staying off their Japanese dishes and ordering from their Korean part of the menu instead.Their Japanese food both cold and hot is okay, nothing special and not particularly exiting, some dishes too bland, some dishes too spicy, some too dry.However their Korean dishes are very tasty! Our favourite being Kan Poong Gi (spicy chicken with plum chilli sauce, Bulgogi and Bibimbap. These are full of nice flavours and taste fusions, particularly Bibimbap, especially on a cold rainy day. They do very nice plum wine, so definitely get a glass or a bottle to go with your meal. And they should definitely improve their dessert selection, ice cream mocha are disappointing... Staff are very nice and polite but can’t cope if they are busy. Their English could also be improved on as sometimes you have to repeat parts of your order several times or they might not understand what you’ve ordered: Asahi beer could be mistake with ‘a sake’.Restaurant has nice relaxed atmosphere about it and we like Japanese pop music they have on most days.

Ordered a Bento and the sauce is NOT individually packed. Opened the bento and it was leaking all over my carpet. Food is just average. Will never order again.

We ordered for delivery from Yokoso's Japanese food section. Unfortunately the food came cold and quite a bit late. The food didn't quite measure up to their regular standard. To be absolutely honest, I just think they had a bad day. Usually their food is top notch (we usually order from their Korean section). Still, we ate most of the food.

I had the beef bibimbap, kimchi and the octopus balls. It was all very good and the staff was friendly.

I went to Yokoso on my brothers recommendation. Having read the menu I thought it was a great choice. Given that this is in a random location I was interested to see what I would find. Our food took an age to arrive. I started with the Salmon Tataki which was admittedly good, but anything would if you'd been waiting an hour for it to arrive!For my main I had the Tempura Udon and sampled my brothers Bulgogi Bibimbap. Whilst his food was served hot my tempura was cold... There's nothing worse than eating cold fried food, you can taste the oil a lot more. Overall the food was edible and the host was lovely, but the service was slow and I was left disappointed which is a shame as I prefer independent restaurants to chains. Unfortunately this one didn't hit the mark.

Order was not what we thought it would be, so called to advise, they did not want to help, send a replacement or be helpful in anyway. The one thing they were very good at doing was arguing Order at your own risk, however if you are hungry and would like an order that has no issues and fills you up I would skip this restaurant and find someone else

I ordered food with this restaurant. After 40 minutes I received a text saying my food was on its way. The restaurant is 5 min walk away from my place but after 35 min I still had not received anything. I called. They said the food would arrive 10 min later and I had to wait another 15 min before it finally came. The food was not fresh anymore. I will never order from this restaurant again and I strongly discourage anyone to do so.

Would recommend the Korean BBQ and they have great sashimi ans sushi also. Very popular with the locals and always tasty - ask for a discount if paying cash!

One of the best sushi I've ever had. We had some nigiri, maki and special rolls, including one of the warm ones. Everything was amazing, especially the special rolls. Service was very fast and the waiters were super nice and smiled. Very warm atmosphere, clean and cosy little restaurant.

Food was good but only one of the bento boxes was delivered. After calling the restaurant regarding this the second one arrived with no compensation about 30 minutes after the call. Will definitely not use this restaurant again!

The sushi and sashimi are excellent and the choice is first class. The octopus sashimi was especially good. Also worth trying are the maki rolls and i recommend the 'grasshopper' which had avocado surrounding eel. The wines are well priced as is the food. The chefs are Korean but trained in Japan so the Korean food is also worth trying.

I gave Yokoso a 4-star review last time, but must say I returned and the running of the place seems straight out of Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. The food is fantastic, truly great -- but not worth the stress. Staff are not assigned tables, so you end up with 4 or 5 waiters taking orders, forgetting orders, bringing stuff you didn't order, leaving orders to others, etc. The tables behind us and to our sides were fuming over their starters not showing up, and the staff were so frazzled that I felt bad even asking for water. I placed the same sake order three times; my girlfriend had a drink, and the second one she ordered never arrived (though it was included in the bill). When our sushi arrived we had to find someone to bring soy sauce -- turns out they brought the soy sauce but no plates/recipients for it, and when they brought it, turns out the soy sauce jar was filled with rice vinegar (waiter seemed in complete shock). It seriously felt like we were in a movie. Another problem is that the menu is in English, and most of the staff did not speak English -- which I don't see as a problem, but the communication is hindered, and this could be quickly solved by assigning numbers to dishes on the menu. I do have to say that the staff were friendly and trying hard, and that I believe the problem lies with the management and the way things are being run right now.Bottomline: - I'm glad that I'm in a long-term relationship and we were able to laugh it off; as a first date this might have been disastrous.- Truly great food, but I won't return (unless some serious management solutions are found).

Took over one hour and a half, but the food is great quality. I would say it is priced well for the quality: there are cheaper places, but they don't slice the sashimi as thick, and the fish isn't as fresh.

The Korean Lamb Grill is awesome!

Their service/delivery time is great! Food is hit or miss though. Sometimes it's really good, sometimes it's a bit bland. This time I ordered the chicken gyoza and chicken yaki udon, and it was all a little bland. Their beef teriyaki has always been pretty good though!

Delivery took over an hour, when I called the restaurant they didn't offer much by way of apology and the quality of the food was poor.

Arrived 90 mins after ordering, well beyond the maximum 60 minutes quoted. A chicken piece in one of the dishes had red blood in the middle. Not up to its usual standards.

Little gem hidden between the block of flats. Although I've been living in the area for a while, I've just recently discovered Yokoso and been back a couple of times since. Good quality authentic food for decent price. Sadly the service quality doesn't much that of the food. To summarize: highly recommended as long as you don't mind having to explain to the waiter three times what you want to order...

The restaurant is in a remote place and you won't get there by chance...but the food is really special and the staff very friendly. We also tried their sushi take-away and it was really nice and fresh, prepared right in front of us. Perfect! I wish we lived closer!

I wasn't expecting too much when going out with friends who spotted this somewhat hidden place a few weeks back. It turned out to be some of the best food I have had in London. Every dish was prepared with incredibly fresh ingredients, and a lot of care/attention went into taste and presentation.Special mention to the seabass ceviche (fresh, great sauce and salad) and the towerbridge sushi roll: a warm roll with salmon, crab, and a wasabi mayo -- fantastic. Can't wait to go back!

I really like this place. It offers a healthy option and the quality is very good. The kalbi beef and bulgogi bibimbop are favorites but the best dish is the hot pot which has a great mix of flavors - pork, tofu, courgette, mushrooms, onions, glass noodles, kimchi. It's a large portion!

We waited an hour for our food even though its location is 5 min walk from our house. Considering its so close we were very disappointed that are food was very cold when it finally arrived- for the amount we paid it definitely wasn't worth it

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed eating at Yokoso everytime we visit this place. 4 of out 5 for a Korean/Japanese diner. Decent sushi and rolls with a great set sushi menu (select a number of hot dishes, and choose from the limited sushi with the option of repeat orders up to 3 times). Though the highlight for us is the Korean menu. Good hot pots, stir fry, kim chi, decent bimbimbap (as long as you ask for extra chilli paste/sauce), great beef rib, and even their bbq selection is decent. The price is slightly more expensive that the average Korean/Japanese diner, but the quality of the food is decent. The wines are surprisingly interesting/decent, limited variety but good quality and generally matches the Korean/Japanese dishes quite well. We noticed that the French wines are directly sourced from France and are actually quite unique and solid. The service is friendly but slightly forgetful and the atmosphere is decent, warmer and better than the average diner but a bit amateur if you were to call it a restaurant.Overall I would recommend this restaurant if you live East of London. Not really a destination restaurant (for you to travel far to eat), but if you are living east of London and don’t mind swinging by the Isle of Dogs, it’s definitely worth it.
