Quite small and cramped, no real tables for 3 and not allowed to use 2 tables (ie a table of 4).
Coffee was ok, hot and tasty but no sugar free syrups (also charging 55p for oat/soya milk I don't think is fair).
Kids cheese on toast (glad I didn't go with the smaller of the 2 kids options)- it wasn't even one slice of bread, it was 3/4 of a slice, tasted ok but still really poor considering the price.
No squash for kids, charging £2.50 for a small carton of juice!!
Overall, I definitely wouldn't return given I paid nearly £18 for hardly anything I know I can get my moneys worth in several better coffee shops in the area.
I have been here a few times now and enjoy it every time. The cakes are so fresh and so reasonably priced.
We also had their afternoon tea. This is only done on some occasions (Mother's Day), and you have to book.
The volunteers are always so friendly and have so much local knowledge, which was lovely to talk about, being from the area myself.
Also, by visiting here, you are helping a much needed charity
Coffee was dreadful - asked for a cappuccino and ended up with an awful milky tasteless coffee. Tea was also tasteless and tiny in size. Not a warm welcome, cafe needed a deep clean and some real attention. Wouldn’t go back.
Always seem to catch this place closed. Caught it open Friday and was lovely, nice curry. Lovely chips. Clean shop! Cash only. Never been able to find them on foodhub guess cashless is the reason why. Enjoy
A lovely shop staff very helpful and patient. Lovely cup of coffee and cake. Lovely music playing in the background.. a lovely experience would certainly be visiting again soon.
Went here a few times but just won't go again. It's a nice place, dog friendly and great to be able to see the brewery from the bar area. Unfortunately the prices are stupidly high and I simply refuse to go again to pay that money.
I understand craft beer is typically more expensive than what is labelled as real ale, but it's Caerphilly we are talking about here, not some big city.
I recall the last time I went with a friend I paid something like £13 for 2 pints. Ridiculous especially when you consider that's about Oxford prices for craft (in some places it's less). Even tiny rebel in Cardiff is less than that.
Unfortunately on this basis I refuse to visit anymore. I don't expect value for money but equally I don't expect to feel ripped off. Looking at other reviews I'm not the only one.
At even £5 a pint I would have likely gone at least 10 more times with a friend since I stopped going (having 2 or 3 pints per person on each occasion), but I refuse to pay almost £7 a pint (some on tap are even more expensive). Such a shame.
We popped in for lunch and ordered the quiche and the Welsh Rarebit.
A nice couple arrived celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and sat on the table across from us. They ordered steaks from the menu and a bottle of prosecco. The server then turned on ambient music that was so loud that it was impossible to hold a conversation. I managed to turn it down just as the server appeared back to say that they had no steaks. I looked out of the window behind her and the nice couple to where I could see a lovely local butchers where I was pretty sure they sold lovely local steak! They could probably even deliver for free! The couple, disappointed ordered the fish and chips instead!
Another couple arrived, were seated and given menus by the same server who mentioned nothing about the steak...a short while later she returned and they ordered... steaks...to also be told that they had no steak!!
The piece of quiche that arrived was the smallest piece of quiche I've ever seen in my life and was almost lost in the garden of green leaves that surrounded it on the plate. If there was a big draft it would likely have blown off the plate. The Welsh Rarebit was soggy and tasted bitter. I asked if we could have a bigger piece of quiche. Ten minutes later the server returned to tell us that all the quiche pieces were that size.
I explained the situation to the duty manager who apologised, didn't charge us and told me that the chef had recently left, the kitchen was staffed by trainees and the place was probably going to close down soon anyway.
I suggested that they do so sooner rather than later and that the prosecco for the nice steakless couple should probably be free.
We went to a nice deli down the road and purchased two single pieces of quiche about 10 times the size of the one we had been served...oh and there was indeed lovely fresh local steak in the butchers shop.
Since then they have announced that the restaurant will close on 31st October 2024
Hopefully it will re-open one day with properly trained staff and a kitchen that makes the most of local produce and chefs who have the ability to cross the road.
What a beauty of a place. Popped in here for a breakfast on break with 3 work friends. The food was spot on. Served hot & fast. Highly recommend. Nice friendly staff too
Lucy arranged a buffet for a family event. The presentation was beautiful and the spread had such a lovely variety. Her homemade sausage rolls are amazing! Would highly recommend Lucy if you have any family events and need a caterer. Thank you!
