Staying in Appleby over Christmas and booked to eat here a couple of months back.
What can I say other than Fantastic!
Cheerful Staff, efficient service, dog friendly and food excellent.
Husband said biggest Steak n’Ale Pie he’s had which didn’t detract from the quality. I had Crispy Pork Belly which was extremely tasty.
Would definitely recommend and will return if back in Appleby
Place was full of roasters, people constantly watching you eat. Staff were the only good part of the venture here. Meals are Cheap so expect what you pay for underwhelming food. Very loud and rough feeling
We live locally and visit often but it was a very disappointing birthday lunch today..... I decided to try the Penne Toscana but when it arrived it was only lukewarm. The Waitress apologised & took it back to the kitchen. After a couple of minutes it returned (same chipped plate, same meal with a poor serving of mushrooms) slightly warmer but still not heated through. It was tasty so I just ate it rather than cause a fuss. When the Waiter cleared the plates I mentioned an off putting piece of what appeared to be gristly chicken or sausage that was also in the (vegetarian) meal, he apologised after prodding it with my knife, none the wiser to what it was, however it had further spoilt my enjoyment of what could’ve been a tasty dish. No second drinks were offered, we had to wait until we were ordering our desserts to have another drink. Only 1 drink then arrived, we had to ask again for the other which then was offered to 2 tables before we got it. Husband was disappointed with the tiramisu which he said had no coffee flavour to it. Overall a very disappointing visit from a food and service aspect. We understand that staff change frequently however today it was obvious that new / inexperienced staff, lovely as they were, would’ve benefitted from support from senior staff to ensure good service and to deal with problems that arose.
Was on the island for work. Was needing to relieve myself after back to back visits before getting the boat to Largs. I visited and this cafe. I ordered and purchased a cheeseburger to take away (boat to catch) ÂŁ5.15!! No chips, side salad, nadda. Paid foe the burger then asked to use the restroom, my reason for popping in, they dont have one. Its not a deli or a take away counter, its a cafe with many spaces for eating in, and no toilets? And staff unable to tell me the nearest toilet. Waited 10mins or so for my burger, then left. Burger was nice enough, kind you would get at a fair, but absolutley not worth the price.

Despite the mixed reviews, hubby and I decided to try a carry out whilst on a recent weekend in Arran. Shop is average for a carry out establishment; man who served us was very pleasant. Told it would be 30 mins, which is quite a long time for a takeaway, but which I hoped meant it was being cooked fresh. Collected and took home to eat, everything was there, nothing missing, all piping hot and delicious. I had a chicken pasanda which was a bit sweet for my taste, but didn't stop me eating it, or having the second half a couple of days later. Would definitely recommend, and would go back.
We had dinner on a Wednesday evening and had the great surprise to have live music with local people playing / singing some nice folk and boogie music. The hamburger and fish and Chips were fresh and great Arran une cream to finish. Nice atmosphere and kind waitresses.
Really Inconsistent Cooking Style!
It will be nice and perfect one day but then the very next day it will be really bad it's so inconsistent I can see why they are on foodhub and north Ayrshire eats they don't let you leave reviews
Take last week for example curry was delicious chicken was cooked perfect it was just really nice
Then tonight same curry is overly spicy compared to normal not a problem for me but definitely a problem for kids and my partner
Then the chicken it's absolutely disgusting tonight it's like blobs of rubber you chew and chew and it's just nasty
Then you randomly find onion skins instead of onion impossible to chew through just like eating well rice paper that won't melt
I don't know if it's multiple chefs or what preparing and cooking for food or what but it's so inconsistent it's become a gamble just ordering
I sincerely use to love the food here it had become my usual after the standards at the other local Chinese dropped during COVID and stuff sadly I have to say after tonight's food especially the apparent chicken "breast" I won't be coming back untill something drastically changes
Not impressed I have been coming here for years with mum but of late the foods not the same half my lunch was cold and mums food was just not nice sorry but somethings changed
