The best restaurants in North Ayrshire South West Scotland

Visited for Afternoon Tea for my birthday. We were really looking forward to a nice wee treat and a nice afternoon. Can't express how disappointed we were with food and service. Was a lovely sunny day with plenty of tables near window but got shown to a table in a dark and dingy area of the restaurant. Waited a while then waitress came over to ask if we wanted Tea or coffee (no choice, just standard tea or coffee). Arrived back with one small pot for two with no offer for a fresh pot etc later. Waited quite a while before food arrived. When Afternoon tea tray arrived we could not believe how unappetising it looked and how little there was. 3 measly finger sandwiches each with not much filling and the bread was stale and hard. There were no other savouries like quiche, sausage rolls, mini soup etc which are usually standard everywhere else. Asked for no fish and still got served disgusting tuna sandwiches. Went on to try scones. The came with some whipped cream which looked like it had been sitting a while and wasn't fresh and some cheap jam. The scones were rock solid and stale and way past their best. No butter. Could not eat them. Just awful. The mini cakes were all awful. Every single one of them was old & stale and seemed like they'd been sitting out for a week. Disgusting. Even the strawberry cut in half on top was dried up. Left pretty much everything, not that there was much to leave as everything was tiny. The service was non existant. No offer of fresh drinks etc and waited a long time to try get the bill. Have to say this is the worst Afternoon tea we've ever had and at £35.00 way overpriced. We did raise issues re everything being stale but still got charged full price. Just awful and really ruined what should have been a nice day for my birthday. Certainly won't be back and the restaurant should be ashamed having even left the kitchen! Neighbouring tables complained their bread etc was hard too.

Such a lovely spot! Dropped by Freckleton for a quick break and totally loved it. Had a cappuccino and their toffee chocolate cake – both were delicious. The place is super clean and cozy, which made it even more relaxing. Staff were really friendly and welcoming too. Definitely coming back!

Been ordering for years and not onve disappointed. Tonight was absolutely delish, food is amazing. Would highly recommend. Best chinese around.

Firstly, I did try to make these comments privately to the venue, but have had no reply to my request for a contact (sent nine days ago). This is what I planned to send. "We were guests for a lovely evening out with friends last night, which is why the evening should have been memorable. You were busy, we were happy to wait for our table. Orders were taken for drinks, but one drink was forgotten and instead of two Slimline tonics and one regular, we were brought two regular tonics and one Slimline. We made do with one of each. In a top class establishment, I’d expect wait staff to operate a ‘silent service’ method where they adopt an easy method of marking their orders pad to enable drinks to be delivered without interrupting conversation. Obviously you don’t train staff to do this, or it appears, to train staff at all. When the waitress came with the missing soft drink, she put it on the table when the person’s hand was outstretched to take it. She did this without making eye contact with the customer. If it’s your policy to do this, she should have said. We were taken into the dining room and seated. Only some time later, when asked “Are youse ready to order?" did the waitress realise we had not been given menus. Incidentally, I’ve yet to come to The Canny Crow and not be addressed as “youse”. One guest asked for bread to be served with starters (he wasn’t asked if he wanted brown or white bread, maybe you don’t have both?) It didn’t come without a reminder. When it did it was supermarket white bread. More bread would have been handy with the pâté which came with approximately a quarter of a slice of toast.“It was nice, but when you eat pâté on its own like that it’s like eating lard.” Why did you skimp on the cheapest thing on the plate? Four out of six mains were served. We couldn’t start eating as we had no cutlery. After some time we had to ask for the other two mains. One of our guests went to the bar and asked for “knives and forks” the waitress brought knives only. We had to ask for vinegar, we weren’t offered it. We helped ourselves to mayonnaise. Service was so slow that by the time we ordered Irish coffee it was after “last orders”. It had been announced (at 10 pm), but this meant that you lost revenue. To top it all, someone started to vacuum when we were still in the room. I had no idea you closed so early, but a polite word to the person who booked would have prevented the ignominy of being virtually thrown out. Throughout the evening, it appeared that unlike previous managers, the person in charge stayed at the corner of the bar, and appeared to be a barman, rather than the person making sure the place was running smoothly. Staff were pleasant, perhaps not exactly friendly, but the blame would appear to lie with management who have failed to train them in the basics. If you want to incentivise them, remind them that you have plenty of American guests and they will benefit from high tippers if service improves. I’m telling you all this because I want The Canny Crow to succeed. I love the venue - it’s a bit out of the way and an expensive taxi ride home, but it would be worth it to bring guests to a world class venue with a stunning view. It is NOT worth risking bringing guests who I want to showcase the best of Ayrshire to when the service is so appalling. Frankly, you should be ashamed of embarrassing your guests. "

Honestly best Chinese I had in a long time! So tasty delivery on time and quality chicken. So good I ordered twice in 3 days.

🏅 exceptional! Huge serves, quality ingredients, super high standard chinkie. I travel from Sydney knowing that Raymond's will fix me up with probably the best Chinese food I've ever had. Always fast, friendly and value for money. I cannot fault it. Consistently a delight 🏅

Good food, good coffee, good atmosphere. We always enjoy our food and the service is always friendly. Home made soup and breakfasts are always very enjoyable.

Great old fashioned, unassuming chippy. Fish was fresh and delicious with a crispy batter. Chips cooked to perfection. Everything piping hot. Service excellent.

Just had a Chinese from here not good rice was very hard noodles hard not be going back waste of 20pounds the young girl behind the counter was nice with service

Ordered for first time, delivery was quick. I got the donner filled wrap with chips and cheese, where at £6.50 This is a bargain. Chips were a little cold but still good and the wrap was amazing, I'll definitely order again.

Very little vegetarian food and hot vegetarian toasties almost never available When asked if they could prepare a fresh toastie advised that they had no cheese at 1pm therefore has to sit with friends who were eating without any food. Very poor service

Very warm welcome by Pramila and Prakash allowed us to go upstairs. Took our order very meticulously advised us of the halal menu may take longer to make. Courteous service child friendly and even took our family picture for us. Can't fault Blue lagoon. Great food and great service. Just the fish supper I was wanting. To end the meal a nice tea and even brought us fresh milk. Went above and beyond thank-you so much. Our go to place when we are in Largs.

Shan moon has such amazing staff and the food well evarryones got ther opinions but this place is the best Chinese takeaway I can't finde any other that's better than shan moon always good food wont go anywhere else highly recommended
