Alberts Chip Shop in North Ayrshire

Great old fashioned, unassuming chippy. Fish was fresh and delicious with a crispy batter. Chips cooked to perfection. Everything piping hot. Service excellent.

Where to start, the guy with cigar steaming at the counter (not the server) I ordered a fish supper, fish was rancid (probably cooked in the same week old oil as the chips) no crisp at all in the batter, like it had been lying in it's own p1ss, chips were disgusting (again, change the fookn oil) and when someone asks for salt and vinegar don't just throw it on the top fish, lift the fish and put it on the chip's because they need all the help they can get! I gave 1 out of 5 because he wrapped it well and put it in a bag 👏

Extremely disappointing. The fish was not fresh, slimy and covered in greasy batter. Chips were ‘ok’. Will not return there again. Should’ve gone to the Cafe Palazzo.

Je recommande chaudement cet établissement. Le Fish and Chips est sa spécialité et apparemment il maîtrise. Les gens du coin viennent d’ailleurs se servir. C’est une vente à emporter, mais on peut aller manger dans le bar juste en face, la patronne aussi est très accueillante, elle nous a fourni serviettes, sel et vinaigre. On peut aussi ajouter que c’était deux fois moins cher que le fish and chips d’Edimbourg, et deux fois plus copieux puisqu’il y avait deux filets de poisson. Bref on a aimé.

Would have given this place no Stars,but it wouldn't let me. Solidified fat on the fryer where chips were served. Proprietor had curry sauce ( or something ) down his apron. One look , and straight in the bin. Why is it,that nobody seems to give a damn anymore. Is cooking decent fish and chips that hard. Passing through on holiday and like to spend money where we stay, seems I need to be more careful. Ps. I hate being negative. But no choice I'm afraid.

Ordered from here last night as a family treat the food arrived over an hour late!! And was absolutely freezing cold also they forgot my 2 pickles! I will never return here again ever I’ll definitely stick to the plaza from now on. Only decent thing was the curry sauce.

Have used as a home delivery service which is very good, good sized portions usually delivered hot, only on one occasion was it less than average, every other time excellent.

Had a great meal with the family!!! Delivery was very fast under the circumstances of covid 19. Everything was very hot and tasty. Would highly recommend the special fish supper it was delicious, so fresh and crispy. Portion sizes were big so nobody was left hungry! Will be ordering again in the future. Recommended highly

The fish is cooked fresh to order. Nice thin batter, which doesn’t overpower the fish and hand cut chips. Yummy.

It’s a good wee chippy and I do enjoy it every time but it’s a lot smaller than the Plazza you can’t sit in and they don’t have a variety of food to choose from or ice cream or sweets !

I ordered 2 Mac n cheese with chips and a fish supper! And it was £19!!! It wasn’t a delivery as my daughter picked them up!! I won’t be returning as I’m disgusted with the price and the macaroni was bland!! No taste whatsoever!! Stop robbing your customers as how can you justify that price!

Alberts is a good old fashioned chip shop. The food is great and is often cooked when ordered so it doesnt lie long. Dont miss out.

I go there two or three times a month. Food is good, staff are pleasant, and has a good range of meals.

Bought a large bag of chips watched the guy lift chipswith his hand discusted unable to eat chips as had been reheats over cooked last visit to alberts

Alberts is an old style chip shop. It has been exactly the same for all of the last 30 odd years that I have visited. Cheap food. Greasy food. Comfort food.

Been eating at this chippy since I was a kid . Visited this month for first time in a while and it’s still as good as ever. Best chips I’ve tasted. Freshly cooked

Love this chippy. Good value for money, you get 2 fish instead of 1. Nice chips and crispy batter. We travel from Irvine to come here. Would recommend to everyone. Nice friendly staff and great service.

Stopped top pick up dinner on Holiday. Friendly staff and good food. Lovely light and bubbly batter and good chips. King rib hit the spot!

We decided to pop into alberts for a couple of fish suppers on the way home, quite possibly the worst chippy I have had. Fish full of bones, breadcrumbs hardly covering the extremely soggy greasy fish. Chips not much better, greasy and soggy. At £6.90 a special supper it’s not cheap. Family have been using alberts for 20 plus years, but on this experience, I won’t be back.

Jist a right gid chippy as chippys go. Its the best. Friendly staff n gid chippy stuff. Canny beat a fush supper n a pickle

My husband just loves a fish supper from this shop. If your heading for the Arran ferry be sure to check this place out. It will be a great tea on the ferry and will make your fellow passengers jealous when they smell it.

I have not been here for a few months cutting back, but every time I purchased fish and chips it was always very good. Well cooked, plenty of it and tasted lovely. Yum,yum

Good chippy all round excellent chips and highly recommend the full Mushroom Pizza supper brilliant Special Fish suppers and well sized portions.

After a long journer was longing for nice fish and chips. However received lots of soggy batter, not much fish, with chips. Was not very impressed, but seagull seemed to like fish.

Dropped in for three carry out meals to eat on the shor front , absolutly disgusting swimming in grease , will never return.......

Great wee local chip pie. Staff and management always pleasant and chatty. Love their special fish. Go on give it a try. You won't be disappointed Not a restaurant but take away

we ordered a delivery meal and it was missing 3 suppers from the meal,we calledand complained they returned half an hour later with 2 suppers,we were still missing one but they charged us for it anyway!! The chips with the suppers were pathetic portions. one supper had 10 chips with it. would definitely not recommend this place.

Best chippy in town by far there is another chippy at the top of Glasgow street which looks good but alberts leaves it standing by a mile a must for a right good old fashioned chippy

I go to Alberts Chip Shop any time I want Fish & Chips or any other fried food as the portions are good the quality excellent and the service very friendly at times you may have to wait but it's worth it. I was amazed when I met a new boss in Milton Keynes and when he asked me where I came from he asked if I went to Alberts as he goes there when he holidays in Arran.

I always ask for the fish and chips, it is great. Home Delivery is well on time and i have never once been let down at all. 3 stars from me.

Absolutely love Albert's. Hands down the best chippy in the 3 towns. We live a stones throw from it which is the added bonus. Staff friendly and helpful too.

Zipped through Ardrossan on your way to or from the ferry? This place is worth a visit if you've got the time. Walking distance from the ferry/Asda,crispy crunchy batter with flaky well cooked fish inside..great chips too. Friendly service,good prices. Wrapped up old style...take them up to the castle ruins for great views on a nice day. Even the local seagulls know the food is good here.

Good fish and chips, friendly staff, great value, would go back again anytime. Sea Bass (2 pieces) and chips worth the money. Easy to access, maybe we'll try the battered cheeseburger next time.

I tried the Sea Bass in light batter with chips - very good and cheaper than standard fish supper. There are other menu items different from normal chip shop fare that I'm going to try.

I used be here often as a child and still the best chippy in ayrshire. Food is always fresh and tastes amazing and very well priced. Shop is very clean also will always love this chippy :)

I have no complaints with this one, the fish was fresh and very tasty and not dripping with oil like some places. I will be back!

The Sea Bass and chips must be the tastiest fish supper ever, we have had this a few times now and it never fails to excel. Always cooked fresh and some cheery chat - I think they deliver too.

We have bought chips twice here before we catch the ferry for Arran.
