Delighted that the hotel had reopened and thought we would try it out during our recent visit to the island. Arrived too early for lunch, so thought we would kill time and have a coffee until service started. Disappointed when we were refused coffees and turned away as it wasn’t yet 12pm. When we asked to use the toilets we were informed they were for customers only. Sometimes you can’t win.

Food was lovely, but service was not. We were put in the breakfast room that was not comfy and felt we were well out the way, not romantic for our honeymoon break. I'm a professional chef, and the hospitality was not good at all. Newly trained staff was not trained up and felt pushed into their role. The main staff lady and kitchen staff were rolling cigarettes on the front bar in front of all their customers, NOT PROFESSIONAL!! No care in the world. I would never have this in my place of work. This would be classed as a disciplinary in any other establishment. Please take our comments on board & speak to your staff.

Had a meal here for lunch and dinner on different days food was great. Really enjoyed it. Lovely view overlooking the bay. Other reviews state barman was dour faced but we found him to be very friendly. He even recognised us on the bus round the island and had a wee chat. Had some drinks on the evening of dinner was not displeased. All in all great experience. Will be going back again. On peak times get there early as it seems to fill up at dinner so check times with hotel and be there sharp.

Ive been ripped off by a fair cross section in my time, but the Lochranza Hotel takes the biscuit. Now i realise its a holiday island but 5 pence short of £18 for 2 toasties and 2 lattes ??? That is nothing short of bloody scandalous !!!

Went out for meal with friends and only place available was this hotel for food and drinks. This place undoubtedly has the most miserable bar man we have encountered who went out of his way to be unwelcoming. Food was mediocre and standard instant pub grub at Hilton prices. The place had very little atmosphere and we wouldn’t go again.

‘Hotter than the sun’ was my first impression of the pub once we’d battled through the infamous Scottish midge clouds hanging around outside. The midges were more welcoming than anyone in the pub. Walking inside and clearly standing out as a tourist (as in smiley and polite) I was immediately put on my ‘be as nice as possible and show everyone we mean no harm just desperate for a pint and food after a long days cycling’ act. This show of positivity was quickly smashed away by the most miserable landlord/pub manager I’ve encountered, ever. He despised the idea of pouring pints of the beer I’m assuming he’d chosen to sell. When we mention ordering food, he again wanted to make sure we knew how hard this would be for him (to have to hand over an order slip to the kitchen staff), he huffed about and after agreeing we’d all pay together to save him the hassle of having to speak to too many of us we returned to our seats. Sitting drenched in sweat, drinking mediocre beer, the food arrived - the standard frozen affair, except island prices. Ordering more beers and he near enough refused to bother serving us claiming he had no pint glasses left, until we pointed out an entire tray of clean glasses right next to him. We escaped and sat outside finishing our pints getting feasted upon by the midges, but we were happy, it turns out anywhere’s better than in a sweat box with a miserable bar man. N.b the day he leaves I’ll be straight back, great location, and never get board of Scotland and all it’s islands.

I visited the bar on Saturday night with 9 friends. We tried to warn the pub a week before our visit that we were a large group and would be ordering food, but we were told it was not possible to reserve a table. When we arrived, the man behind the bar (possibly the landlord) was unfriendly and unaccommodating. He resented every pouring single drink we ordered and the food was pretty dire.

Not a lot of choice in the village of Lochranza. Stag Pavillion has a 6-month waiting list, seriously. (plus BYOB). This little pub is the local's choice, and for good reason. Decent menu, prices, and the whiskey selection is insane. George (owner and bartender) told me they have ~600 different labels in that little pub...and I believe it. However, the beef pie made the night! After hiking from Corrie to Lochranza, we were famished. Their beef pie was AWESOME! friendly crowd, and we met fellow hikers.

My group of French walkers loved this place, and the food - typical British pub food. I even managed to convert a number of them to love sticky toffeee pudding !! No reservations possible, so you have to choose your time well - people tend to eat early, and this is a good idea as the kitchen closes at 20.30, so beware. We visited on a Monday evening, the bar was full, and the owner slightly stressed out dealing with drink and food orders by himself. We had to wait a while for the food, but nothing excessive. When it came, it was good and filling. We had arrived after the main rush, so nearly missed out on desserts. However, they were able to take our orders, so the evening ended on a high with the sticky toffee pudding.

The best one could say about the food was that it was okay and edible but with very little creativity. This is always a problem with a location that is trying to do many things instead of just doing one well. There's not many places to eat in Lochranza and after I had read previous reviews (which seemed poor) for this place, I will admit that I wasn't really looking forward to it. However, we had a really good experience. The barman (young guy with long hair and a beanie hat) was extremely friendly and helpful. There was a good selection of craft ciders and spirits, in particular approximately 200 whiskies (there may have been more) from all over, including the local distillery. The starters were nice but nothing exceptional (nachos and garlic bread). The mains on the other hand were really exceptional. I had the fish and chips and the fish is by far and away one of the best I've had - beautifully light batter with amazing flaky fish. The venison pie my husband had had great big pieces of venison which were tender and tasty and both potions were substantial.

Good choice from a fairly straightforward menu; good quantities, prompt service and excellent value - go for the steak pie, you won't regret it. Whilst the food here is OK, the rest of the experience leaves much to be desired. The décor, ambience and atmosphere goes back several decades and needs to be dragged into a more modern era. In addition, the service is questionable, several diners were met with 'How can I take your order when I don't know where you're sitting'; also, if the staff are chatting to others, don't expect quick service. Unfortunately couldn't get in to our usual Lochranza restaurant Stags so we gave the Lochranza Hotel a go for the first time in a few years. Had a homemade minestrone soup starter which was nice followed by the bean burger. At almost £12 it's on the pricey side for a bean burger & chips. It's the type of meal you wouldn't consider at home in a city but in a nice rural bar with great views in Lochranza it's fine. The pub has wifi available but although you could connect it wasn't working. We heard other tables say the same thing. When we mentioned it to a staff member we were told it was working and to reconnect. Wifi is not normally an issue but when you're on an island with no 3G or 4G it's disappointing when you can't access it. Nice beers and a great selection of malt whisky. However, as a restaurant it's pleasant enough but unexceptionable.

Lots of positive things to say: looks like it's got new carpet throughout, accommodating owner who went out their way to make us feel welcome and happy, lovely views, tasty cooked breakfast and a cosy bar that was clearly popular with the locals. My only gripe was the room temperature which was pretty cold and the radiator, despite being turned up full, was giving out little heat. Once we were in our beds we were fine. At around £12 for mains in the Lochranza bar you would expect hand-cut chips with your fish supper and a brioche bun with your burger. What you get is a small side salad and a dollop of coleslaw as if this was the best accompaniment to everything. Which the barmaid then proceeded to pour but only filled the glass 2/3 full as some sort of retribution for requesting no ice be added. Apart from this event, which was subtly petulant, the food was distinctly average and the service was mostly bizarre. Disappointed that by chance I choose to stop here; given the number of great places to stop for lunch on the island.

Visited on the kind of dreich Tuesday afternoon that you can only get in August in Scotland. Given there's not a lot in Lochranza in way of shelter and the bus back to Brodick wasn't for another couple of hours we were delighted to find the bar at the hotel open. I believe it's open from noon for food and drinks. We were given a warm welcome, along with a recommendation for their homemade minestrone soup. Took this up, along with a plate of toasties, for a simple but hearty lunch. The soup was smashing, as was the pint of real ale I chose to accompany it. The place looks a bit old fashioned, but may be all the better for it.

This is a relaxing comfortable place and the staff are friendly and helpful. There's a spacious garden bar looking out over the loch and a tame deer grazed on the beachfront. We were a little early for lunch but the broth and sandwich was good value. The beer too.

A quiet little hotel. The person at the bar was a friendly local. Service excellent. Had a gin and tonic to while away the hours.

Hands down the best sticky toffee pudding I have EVER had! Portions were quite big so by the time I had 3 courses I was done for the day. Waitress was very attentive and pleasant. Hope to visit again.

A welcoming hotel, good, freshly cooked food. The menu is fixed, but it's all tasty. A warm bar, with a nice buzz with happy people relaxing after a long day of work or walking. Prices were reasonable. This isn't gourmet, it's what you need to revive and revitalise!

Weonly visited the restaurant for a family meal as we were camping nearby. The family eating are is small and we were lucky to get a table, otehrs had to wait. We all had fish and chips and it was GOOOOOD! Perfectly cooked, flahy haddock in a crispy batter with a small bowl of obviosuly homemade tartare sauce (well done, too many restaurants let themselves down imo by serving those horrible little plastic sachets). The portions were generous and we were too full to have dessert, but we did indulge in a dram from the very well-stocked whisky menu. Most were quite expensive (very few under £4.50 a shot, some above the £100-mark) but they did have a malt of the month which was half-price and therefore very good value. Friendly staff. Also acts as the local cash machine!

We had originally planned to go to the hotel at Catacol but it was very busy so carried on to Lochranza. We were glad we did. We had a very pleasant lunch. We stuck to standard lunch fair. Soup (cauliflower ), toasties and baked potatoes. All the food was well presented and tasty. The staff (one lady) was attentive and the food arrived quickly. The decor was a bit of a mix but clean and well maintained. There was also views of the bay and an extensive collection of whiskeys if that's to your taste. My family and I would happily visit again.

no, it wasn't the cheeky stag from the campsite up the road... but what a nice juicy venison pie, YUM! in a tin, with puff pastry on top, with chunky chips - just what you need after a long walk. nice atmosphere, friendly staff and also a great place to have a drink. My friends had the fish and chips and that was delicious too.

So went to pick up new Glasses today and as I was straight after work early shift was hungry . A Piri Piri place in mall Called Black Rooster ( yea crazy a chicken place ). It had advertised “ Vegetarian “ menu. Corn burger Paneer wrap Halloumi burger All of these. £4.50. With a variety of “ sauce” flavours . I had decided on the “ corn burger 🍔” Oh sorry we’ve “ phased “ those out . Puzzled look on my face … Ok I no would like the Halloumi Burger. Ahhh ok. With what sauce and do you want lettuce and Mayo Yes please Said I. I really want you to enjoy this I will have the Spicey BBQ please and make that a meal thanks that will be £7.50 Now at this point I sat more in Hope than confidence that this wasn’t a hooge mistake . Sadly it turned out my initial feelings were founded. This mess is what turned up . When is a burger not a burger !! I spoke to a staff member explaining my confusion. Oh we’ve “ phased out the Halloumi burgers” and we now only use the halloumi sticks !!! What would you like to do ? The manager should have explained this when she took your order. I’m sorry if she didn’t . Please just refund me. Thank you. So the moral in the Tale . If it’s a Chicken shop . No matter how “ cool and on trend they want to be seen as having vegetarian options. They will most likely still be a piri piri chicken shop that wants to be Nando’s but still fail with even the basics. 🤮

Excellent fish and chips with the lightest crunchiest batter and juicy succulent fish. As a female solo visitor (walking Ayrshire Coastal Path) I enjoyed the relaxing room upstairs and the staff were ultra friendly.
