Dalgarven House Hotel Restaurant in North Ayrshire

This popular restuarant/wedding venue has suddenly closed down without notice leaving many young couples and others searching for new venues at very short notice.

This meal was utterly diabolical, my expectations were not set for a Michelin star meal by no means, just a normal Christmas dinner. Where do we start 😔our meal cost for our family excess of £350, £45 a head which had to be paid in full before the end of November( now I know why) because you just would have walked out without paying ! The table setting and place was lovely but that’s where the good ended. As we sat to order our choice off the menu we were told the roast beef of the main dinner was sold out, considering we were here at early lunch time, shocking!!! My starter was no more than two soggy oat cakes and pate with a sparingly touch of flavourless salad. The soup which to our knowledge we were lucky to even have that offered, as we heard other people complaining as they tried to order it and they had run out of it, who even runs out of soup !! The turkey dinner was nothing more than a cheap Iceland bit of imitation meat, veg tasted out a tin, nothing was homemade here,. The deserts were even more appalling, An over dinged chocolate fudge cake with a teaspoon of ice cream I swear I’ve never seen such a small piece of ice cream served 😔 first time in my life I’ve never been able to eat my dessert, it was dry/burnt/ disappointing!! ,, We waited over half an hour for a glass of wine to be served, they had no orange juice, they clearly should never have been allowed to serve a Christmas meal and charge £45 for the experience. I have never written a bad review of a place because you can always see something good , I’ve always felt people sometimes are over dramatic and fussy, believe me there is not one good review you will read about this day from any of its customers because all we overheard was complaints. I urge you to consider again before booking here. It was no more that a ding dinner that wasn’t pleasant at all.

A group of us went here for a meal and although you cant fault the setting or the price our meal was lacking in the wow factor. We were only table in the restaurant, with apparently only 1 server it didnt detract from the setting as restaurant is beautiful with lovely plush,comfy seats and amazing chandelier. All the drinks came out quickly except mine as they had to try and source fresh orange? Menu had a good selection and you could choose between festive or normal menu,with most of us opting for festive. Our starters came out quickly enough but have to say presentation was poor although very tasty. It took our main course a wee while to come out and 3 of us had to send them back as they were barely tepid,this could have been partly due to plates being cold,not good. Deserts were ok but nothing spectacular. As i said price is great at 3 courses for £15 but more attention to detail required. Dont think i will be back anytime soon im afraid

We went for a family meal last night and due to dietary requirements we had to leave without eating our meal. I could have either a goats cheese salad for my main course or I could have veggy fajitas minus the wraps, I asked for rice or boiled potatoes to have with it instead and was told that they didn't have any but I could have mash potato, (confirmed as being precooked and heat up when ordered) serving staff offered to send the chef out to see if they could offer me an alternative meal and she refused to come out. We cancelled our order and went home and ordered a Chinese and currently awaiting a call from the management as we have a gift voucher we are unable to use. The menu online is not what is being offered when you arrive. Management weren't on duty during our visit. Waiting staff did what they could under the circumstances.

5th November we had a few drinks on the bar. Staff were lovely and helpful they were chatty and made you feel at home. It's 1st iv been in since the new owners took over and the renovations. I booked for Christmas lunch which we are looking forward to. I would recomend The Dalgarvan Such nice relaxing place.

We went for a lovely meal.The staff very friendly and did everything they could do to help us in every way.The meal was good and plenty on your plate.Parking could be a bit better

It is clear that this restaurant and hotel are trying to reinvent themselves but still hang on to old clientele. they are heading in a positive direction. The Hotel was not the greatest, but it is an old building, possibly historic. The restaurant is solid and the breakfast was good.

Been here on a few occasions although always quiet I have always enjoyed the food. On this occasion serving staff seemed inexperienced and drinks and food orders were wrong. After taking food order came back later to say one of the main courses was off the menu because they had not received their fish delivery, expected staff to know this before taking order. One starter was over cooked and inedible, this was taken off the final bill. Overall significant improvement required as surroundings are pleasant. Did not like local radio station being played in restaurant area.

I was at Dalgarven House Hotel in April (from the USA) for a pre-wedding dinner, and the whole experience was excellent. I visited again last night with a group of friends as was SO disappointed, We were told that the kitchen staff, chef, and manager are all new...and it shows! Menu was poor, service was very slow, and the food was dismal. We shared our concerns with the waitress, who was very nice, and said she would talk to the GM, and chef, but no-one came to talk to us. I hope this is growing pains for all of the changes, as it is a beautiful location.

Decided to try this hotel as haven’t been in years and we were pleasantly surprised, food was lovely, very good sized portions and very friendly service, was very quiet but that’s probably due to being in the outskirts, lovely big restaurant to eat in, very reasonably priced, will be back.

Great food, friendly staff and a very pleasant atmosphere with a bar and a conservatory-type restaurant to relax in. A well stocked bar and, as I mentioned, good food make it a popular countryside location to visit. I good weather I believe you can also eat out in the garden. Well worth a visit!

Good food and good portion size, venue a little rundown. Excellent staff who were very friendly, will definitely return.

Firstly we were the only customers in the whole restaurant which in itself speaks volumes. After ordering my drink the waitress dropped my drink all over me soaking my trousers, my seat, the table and floor so we had to move to another table. The waitress asked me a couple of times if I was ok. I'd have preferred an apology. Accidents happen and I didnt make a fuss but I was uncomfortable for a long time until I finally dried off. When we went to pay, the worker at the bar was not very attentive and she and some workers talked while I stood waiting to pay. The waitress sat staring at a laptop. There was no niceties you'd expect from a customer focused business such as asking if we enjoyed our meals (they prefer to send the waitress to interrupt you during each course to ask if everything is alright). Generally not friendly or making any effort. There was no offer to compensate for the inconvenience caused, e.g. deducting the charge for my drink. Mind you, if they're only making £40 for the entire afternoon, then they're not going to lose any more money. Not impressed, won't be back.

We pass here every week and decided to have a night off cooking. Warm friendly welcome staff all lovely and the food delicious. Presentation of food was excellent.

We went in with the holy we could get a nice meal in the afternoon and we were not disappoint. The staff were really nice especially the waiter that took orders he was very friendly. We all had different meals but it didn't take any longer for the meals to come. All the food was brilliant I had sweet chilli chicken with curry sauce it was delicious. There was 6 of us we all got 2 courses and a drink the total was only just over £80-00, if you haven't been for a while I would strongly recommend that you give it a try again it had got so much better than what it was.

Haven't been to this restaurant in about 15 years, which is funny as it is only about 5 mins drive from my house. It is just on the outskirts of the town and I think that often makes people overlook it when thinking of somewhere local to eat.

First time visiting in a while. Was very impressed with the food (large portions) and value for money. Friendly service too. Will be back!

Booked for a family funeral tea and really pleased. The staff could not have been nicer, clearly had lots of experience of this type of function and were very reassuring. Sausage rolls and cakes in particular were fab. A very positive experience and thanks to the lady in charge whose name I forget but she is extremely good at her job.

Had previously only attended large functions such as weddings and dinner dances at this venue but I had a lovely business function this morning and the venue is set up very well to accommodate all size of business meeting.

Good food quickly prepared and served beautifully by attentive staff. Lovely surroundings and ambiance. Prices are extremely good.

Used restaurant for first time last weekend and I have to say I could not find fault with anything. Do book ahead. Food was excellent and very good menu choice. Suitable for disabled in restaurant.

Not overly impressed. The staff didn’t really know what they were doing, every time we went to the bar we got charged a different price, there was no “thank you” or smile it was like the staff didn’t really know that they were doing & they really didn’t want to be working. Some guests were told not to spray deodorant or hairspray in the rooms as it would set off the fire alarm & if this happened they would be charged the call out fee!! All in all the front of house needs some work, as for the kitchen, they seem to be on form, excellent food, couldn’t complain.

Booked for a Special Birthday with family and friends . Food excellent, good portions, well presented. Staff very friendly and attentive . Wonderful afternoon .

The meal was served in a separate room. I have no complaints at all - the goats cheese & tomatoes starter was rich & tasty. The stroganoff main was a generous helping & came with flavourful rice, a good sauce & plenty of (sometimes slightly chewy) meat & mushrooms.

Stayed overnight on business, the room was a little tired and could do with a deep clean but for somewhere cheap to stay at short notice it was fine. I didn’t use the pub in the evening but breakfast was great with large portions. Not bad at all!

2nd time we've tried here and it's the last, service was good but food was terrible, soup tasted off, pastry in steak pie had hairs on it, the veg looked dried up as if it wasn't fresh, the chips were a disgrace as if they have been back heat, we did tell the waitress and manager when asked how food was, we didn't want a replacement dish and left one full plate and a half eaten one, when we went to pay manager gave me a full price bill, I had to tell her I would only be paying for one meal. Found that a bit of a cheek, so nope won't be back,

I attended a family celebration here. They obviously knew it was happening as it had been booked but they had hardly any staff on. One staff in the bar serving a party isn't enough. The price of the drinks was pretty steep top

Hadn't been at dalgarven in years, since the new owners have taken it on it's amazing. The food is freshly cooked and tastes so so good. The burgers are massive trust me no starter required. The staff are lovely and helpful.

The meal generally was OK, although the pudding ordered by my wife was inedible and returned for that reason. On paying the bill, the pudding was on the bill, but removed on raising the matter

Esta fue la primera vez que han sido durante mucho tiempo y valió la pena la visita. Todo el lugar ha sido hecho a un estándar muy alto. En el conservatorio todos los muebles ha sido sustituida la comida era estupenda y la camarera ha estado aquí por un largo tiempo, ella es muy agradable y con un gran conocimiento de la comida que está en el menú el chef hace una gran comida. Yo le recomendaría darle otra oportunidad si no hubiera sido por un tiempo.

Great home cooking here although the wervice can be a little slow. I do like eating in thr conservatory

Fui con mi familia un domingo por la noche, después de haber oído que tenía nuevos propietarios y tenía muchas ganas de disfrutar de nuestra comida. Todo lo que puedo decir es que estábamos muy decepcionados al final de la noche, buena torta de carne mientras era pequeña, pollo cajún estaba seco con algunas sustancia de color, otros los aperitivos y platos principales estaban bien, nada especial. La camarera joven que creo era el entrenamiento era preciosa, pero la camarera alto pelo oscuro realmente molesto mi hija llamando su "amor" toda la noche, totalmente arruinada para ella. Así que simplemente mediocre, no creo que l volvería.

Excellent place for an overnighter, fantastic service, the food also was amazing. Since the new owners have came in there is nothing to fault about this place. Would highly recommend here for friemds and family to stay

Este hotel/restaurante ha sido reabierto bajo nueva dirección. Lo han hecho muy lujoso y agradable. Así que tenía muchas esperanzas y llevé a mi familia para cenar. Nos vinimos muy decepcionado. Aunque los precios eran razonables y la comida era muy pobre. pan de ajo se sirve con queso cargado rojo brillante, la pasta es en salsa aguada y sin sabor del pollo, el budín al vapor correoso chocolate resultó ser un hard rock diabólico, parecía ser tanto rancio y overbaked. Me ofrecieron 3 bolas de helado" para ayudar a que baje" (! ). Uno de nuestro grupo tenía el paté, que tenía un curioso acento a su gusto y entonces fue enfermo esa noche. Por £44 espero algo mejor, me ofrecieron ninguna compensación por mi postre mal y cuando quisimos pagar tuve que buscar a través de todo el edificio para el personal, y todavía no fue exitosa! También mientras comíamos un miembro del personal decidió comenzar a limpiar el comedor, que no sólo no es higiénico, pero hacía un montón de ruido. El dueño era muy dulce y el entorno precioso, pero a menos que mejorar la comida no regresaré.

No haber sido en Dalgarven durante unos años y no volveré para unos pocos. Fuimos a cenar con dos de nuestros nietos. El personal era muy amable y el restaurante ha sido redecorado, pero la comida no era para morirse. Fajitas de pollo de mi esposa eran demasiado seco y cubierto con especias cajún ellos demasiado hacer. Sólo 3 fajitas en lugar de 4 como el Cornerhouse, así que dejamos algunos de los pollos. El Shiraz vino peleón era barato. Decepcionado tras haber sido recomendado recientemente.

Estado aquí muchas veces. Comida deliciosa y había mucho para elegir. Puede ser frío en el restaurante casablaca, pero un par de vinos y ya no aviso

Had my 80Th Birthday there on 10th December 2016 and couldn't have asked for better service.The table for fourteen was set up excellent and the Staff were first class.Food was excellent and really enjoyed by all.Went back the following week for Dinner that turned out first class.Will be back soon.Highly Recommended give it a try you will love it.

Why oh why do they not get a good chef in to cook. Ordered pate and it was nicely presented with a huge slab of pate. Far too big for a starter. Chilli chips? Consisted of a few flakes of chilli and bland undercooked chips, obviously frozen, as they still felt cold. Cajun chicken? Yuk! Dry chicken with some spices on top, and a small serving of mayonaise on the plate.......!

Stayed in the hotel for two weeks and ate here every night,excellent home cooked food with a good varied menu,helpful friendly owners and staff,Would recommend if your in the area

We visited Dalgarven mill with friends for a refreshing tea and sandwiches . Now Dalgarven is not a five star hotel but is a friendly place for a stop . When we visited It was very busy . Staff were pleasant and keen to be of service to their customers . I had not been at the mill for a long time and was pleased to see how Very busy it was .Dalgarven is well placed between Kilwinning and Dalry in a lovely setting at Dalgarven water .It is worth a visit for this looking for a nice cup of tea and a snack when out for an afternoon trip .Visitors are made welcome .Hugh S

What a great meal and entertainment for New Years Eve. New owners and meal much improved from last year. Will definitely be visiting again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch today. Food very good and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Will definitely return!

10 of my family went here for our Christmas dinner. Nice decor and warmly greeted. We where taken to our table which was well set up. The menu was on the table which looked and tasted good.Our order was timely taken.It then went down hill from there with the service and excuses.We were given the wrong starters and all at different times. The girl that took our order never served us. The ones left waiting on their starter was asked by different staff what they ordered. 3 different staff brought out a cheese filled parcel that no one ordered. I took it from them and sat it at our table till we all had our starters some had finished. I then gave them it back.4 ordered the lemon with berries 3 plain the 4th one had a scoop off sorbet. We asked what was the difference was. We were told the ones without the sorbet where children's portion. I personally thought the one with the sorbet should have been the kids ones. The other 3 were given side bowls with a scope of sorbet. Our I forgot to mention the youngest at our table was 36 years old. The meals followed with the service above no one knew what we ordered so I complained to the blonde lady who was the owner. I got the excuse that they had a bad day in the kitchen with one of the chefs. I can empathise with that and the kitchen would be busy but the chef was not the one bringing the wrong meals to the wrong tables.The food was good but the service was hopeless.Unless the waiting staff get better trained stay well clear.If the girl that took our order served us she would have know what we ordered I hope.Not a good experience

The hotel has recently been refurbished and is looking really nice! My son is a really fussy eater and the lady who took our order made sures he got exactly what he asked for. Our meal was lovely. Have now booked the whole family in for dinner on New Years Day!

The Scottish breakfast was to die for. Brilliant. Haggis, black pudding and then all the trimmings. Lots of toast and coffee. SuperLunch was nice.

Waited more than an hour for food with three kids one in baby car seat.. Very disorganised mothers day..manageress didn't even stop walking when we asked how much longer...as a result we never got the free chocolates other mothers got...used to love it but haven't been back!;

Restaurant area in middle of refurbishment leading to strong smell of paint whilst dining. As usual staff were friendly. King prawn starter costing over £6 consisted of 4 prawns, no trimmings and oily sauce with little flavour. The prawns were cold and it was no surprise when I spent the next day in bed with stomach pains. Ordered tandoori chicken. Was given plain grilled chicken breast and masala type sauce. When I told waitress that I did not recognise this as tandoori chicken, she told me it was in the sauce. Sweets were tasty. Not enough to tempt me back. This hotel has historically been inconsistent with its meals so was hoping new ownership would make food a priority. Sorry.

Dinner was fantastic .were doing renovations so smell of pain was strong.. staff very nice...was going to tell manager to slice a couple of onions in half and put halves around where painting as absorbs paint smell...but forgot .would deffo go back.....

Popped in for a quick lunch when out and about shopping .Place is a little dated inside it was also very cold and I had to keep my coat on during my lunch.Food wasn't at all to my liking but I think it's a personal choice it all looked so nice and fresh on the menu but when present to me it wasn't the case the rice was gloopy and like it had be reheated in the microwave. My main of a salad was very little lettuce but lots of unhealthy food that I wouldn't have ordered ever.I've always heard such good reviews of the food here but I wouldn't rush back as it's just not to my taste

We booked it through bookings.com, very good reviews and it really deserves. We have been there for 2 nights and everything was great. Nice room, warm, clean. The room has everything for a nice stay. There's a restaurant on the ground floor where we ate 2 nights. Good menu, good food, nice and friendly personnel. The full Scottish breakfast was included in the room rate. Everything great, just the free wi-fi signal a little bit low or missing. Cool!!!

I shared a birthday lunch with friends last Friday in Dalgarven House Hotel Restaurant. Lunch was served in the conservatory which is light and spacious. We had a two course lunch priced at around £11 per head with plenty of choice served by friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a return visit.

Went to Scotland with one of the main purposes: Haggis, Black pudding and Angus beef! This was just fantastic!!

What a lovely place in beautiful surroundings. Have been there twice within a couple of months, firstly with relatives then with friends. The hotel used to serve beautiful meals, and OK it could be doing with a facelift, but because the meals were good the previous could be forgiven. Had Cajun chicken first time round, which always used to be the best in the area, and sadly whoever was cooking had no idea what Cajun chicken should look like or even taste like. The menu changed to what I can only describe as "pub grub", which I am not in favour of. I like fine dining. When with friends, the tempura chicken was over fried, and obviously far removed from tempura batter. Onion rings were dripping with oil, and to be honest everything looked greasy. The decor had changed in the conservatory, where the tops of the beautiful shaped windows were hidden by grey pelmits, and the lovely wood, painted white. I liked the chairs to sit on, but dreadful colours. Paper napkins? Not for me, as they have replaced the linen ones. I think the new owners are trying to update the place, but to me, looks rather cheap in decor. Certainly what they need to invest in, is a good chef, not a cook. There were only a handful of people in at the time, and the waitress was obviously under pressure. Maybe the next visit, if there is one, will be better? Not sure if I will return. Sorry Dalgarven, have been visitors for over 30 years, and have not had a meal that I didn't enjoy, till now.

On Saturday 18th September 2016 we had a lovely meal in the restaurant and drinks in this country hotel which has recently been taken over by new owners who have vast experience in the licensed trade and catering.The owners Volker and Alexandrea and very professional / friendly restaurant / bar staff Tracey, Michelle and trainee staff were fantastic and really made us feel welcome.Dalgarven has been revamped with more plans for renovations, I highly recommend you give it a try, it’s well worth a visit.

Once in a lifetime you come across service so unbelievably terrible that you think to yourself, did that really just happen? Unfortunately the food also wasn't anything special equating to a decidedly unappealing event which won't be repeated; Shame, as it's obvious the place has potential

The new owner is currently in the process of updating the hotel and I think this will be a fantastic place to stay when he is finished That said this is a still a very nice place The food is very good and the hospitality of the owner V his wife plus the staff is very welcoming Would definitely stay there again

Having been involved in family events from a christening, an 18th & 21st birthday party here, it has created many happy memories. Great to just go for a meal & cosy environment.

Service was excellent but felt the food was served far to quickly for my liking. Food was average nice but I'd say it could be better, felt like we were being rushed as it was a busy night. Wouldn't stop me going again to give it one more chance as the staff were great.

This was a couples outing for dinner just 4 of us. We booked at the Dalgarven mainly as it was local and my friend was looking at wedding venues. It was a Sunday night and we were seated in the conservatory. They had an offer around £12 for 3 courses which we all opted for. I can honestly say we all really loved all the food we had. We have paid way more money in chain restaurants and visiting here left us wondering why when we can get such good value and quality nearby. It was almost like hiring the place out as we were the only people in the conservatory most of the other diners seemed to be the area just as you come in which we would go for next time as there is a traditional fireplace which is really nice. I've known the place was here for years and I can now say we will be visiting far more often.

This is our second visit in the last two weeks,having discovered this friendly restaurant.Our first visit(lunch served in the bar by the fire)was so pleasant that we decided on a return trip.Yet again,we had large potions of wholesome food at a very fair price.The garlic mushrooms for starters were delicious .Steak pie with tender meat and rich gravy delighted my daughter and the profiteroles with strawberries and chocolate sauce were consumed with great relish.The conservatory has been designed with lots of little antiques,but the table linen is rather tired and requires to be ironed.Perhaps the management could afford to replace the shabby suit worn by the efficient and very professional young waiter.Details like these are important .

Already posted my review in the hotel page but excellent food, reasonably priced, a very varied menu to suit all, varied special night through the week. Pleasant staff in a lovely location.

Nice quaint hotel with quirks. Had to walk through the busy bar to get to the restaurant. We were here over valentines weekend as 2 couples. The restaurant was near empty yet we were seated right at the door. Children were running riot, throwing paper aeroplanes at the waitresses face whilst she was carrying food out..... I ordered a Pate which came with one slice of toast cut into 4 triangles. The pate had solidified lard on top of it which I had to tap and crack and scrape off my pate - too much hard work for a starter. Once you get through all of that the pate was ok. Ordered a lasagne for my main which was small and not very deep but it was very dry. I barely ate a quartre of it. My husbands steak pie was very chewy. When the waiter collected the plates he did ask if my meal was ok to which I replied no, but that was the end of it. When the bill came I requested that the lasagne be removed from my bill which it was without question. I'm not sure I would go back.

Visited today, 27 December for lunch. Had the 3 course family menu. Every aspect of the meal was delicious. Will be back.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend in durgarven house hotel. Stayed in cottage with friends and ate at hotel. The food was excellent and cottage was very clean an comfortable. Would definately recommend this place. Very friendly and helpful staff

Small well run hotel. Really friendly attentive and helpful staff. Food was really good with lots of choice to suit any budget. Room was comfortable and had great shower set up including jacuzzi and steam facility. Nice view of river garnock.Bar was well stocked and had an attractive wood burner giving a really cosy feel

Very reasonable priced menu offering 2 courses for 9.95. Clean surroundings, nice staff, good food at great value prices. Portions are huge.

We went on a Friday night, there is a small pub as soon as you enter, prompt and friendly service. Went into the back for dinner. the meal was lovely and the service was friendly and helpful

Varied menu for wide range of specials ideal for families also, rooms are comfortable and cosy, all staff are very helpful and nothing seems to be a problem to them. My family and I have ate and stayed here several times as its ideal for casual to special events.

I went to dinner at this Restaurant with my husband, daughter and her partner. The evening started well in that we ordered our starters and main courses. The starters were lovely. However, my daughter had ordered a sirloin steak. She asked for it to be cooked medium to well done. When the steak arrived my first thought was "you could sole your shoes with that steak". When my daughter started to eat the steak she found it to be overcooked, tough and very chewy. No staff member came near us until the rest of the table completed their main courses. When we advised that the steak was not good, it was removed, as were all the plates on the table and no member of staff came near us after that. We were not offered a sweet menu or any further drinks. We had to go to the Bar area and ask for our bill.

We were driving back from the Ladies Open at Turnberry and passing through Dalry. It's been years since we had eaten in the Dalgarven and thought we would give it a try. We thought we would be lucky to get in but it was quite quiet. The restaurant in the conservatory is quite nice, it was cosy as it was a horrible night outside. It was a bit disappointing, the portions were huge but not too well presented. It was a bit like pub grub. The service was very attentive after they found a second menu to give to me. We shared an Oriental type beef dish to start with which just appeared to be beef in some of that chilli sauce you can buy. Plenty of it mind. I had Steak Pie, the gravy was thick and dark and the beef was tasty. The spuds were so, so. My wife had a huge fish dish that she enjoyed. We shared the banana crepes which were nice. There was 32 or 3 things on the menu that we might have had but they had run out of ice cream. It was only about 8pm, they could have sent someone down to the shops for some, considering how much ice cream actually featured on their menu. It was a reasonable price, only £35 for a starter, a desert, 2 mains, a glass of wine and a half of lager. I won't rush back. Oh aye, the card reader apparently doesn't work past table number 3, so you have got to go within the signal range to pay your bill. The staff were all very pleasant.

Went in for a meal and told them that I was gluten-free - didn't get a 'no problem, our gluten-free options are....' just got 'well, what would you like?'. Ordered a steak which, when it came, you could've soled your shoe with it. I tried it and it was chewy - I usually always have a steak when I go out as it's not something I eat often at home so I know how it should taste. Noone checked back on our table to see if everything was ok, it was only when they came to clear our plates that they asked if everything was ok with our meal and I said 'sorry, I didn't enjoy my steak, it wasn't very nice' to which the woman replied 'right, how did you ask for it to be cooked?', and that matters why?! This was just annoying as I wasn't complaining for the sake of it and even my family said that it didn't look nice without even trying it. I told the woman that it was chewy and not enjoyable. The waiting staff then proceeded to clear our plates and after that not one person came near us to ask if we would like anything else. They didn't event take the steak off the bill. If it had't been for the poor way in which our complaint was dealt with then we would've maybe went back but definitely not now. I always think that it doesn't matter how good a place looks or how nice the food is but as long as the customer servive is good then that's what makes the experience - this was a poor one.

We visited this restaurant when staying with friends at Burnside cottage, which is owned by the hotel. We liked this cottage, proving that not all visitors have the same experience.Coincidentally, Thursday was steak night and we all enjoyed our 2 courses for £11.95. The views are attractive and the service was pleasant, obliging and friendly. There was a 10% discount for cottage guests. Appreciated!

I liked everything I ate, delicious breakfast, recommend the Black pudding and haggis tower. Sunday lunch was lovely but we (my brother and his wife) didn't have room for a pudding, you won't go hungry here.

Visited with family including a small child. Service was very fast and friendly. Prices were excellent and the food was lovely. I had the cheeseburger and it was probably one of the best I've ever had. I've visited this place 4 or 5 times now and have yet to have a bad meal.

really enjoy coming here, been coming here for yrs. great value for money, food is excellent. would defo recommend this place all yr round. hope to pop in over the summer to enjoy sitting out in garden.

Just had supper here tonight. Service was good and our food arrived piping hot. I asked for my steak medium rare but it came pretty much well done. Sitting on a very hot sizzling plate only cooked it more I'm sure. However, it was tasty and came with mushrooms, onions and tomato as well as potatoes - both roasted and boiled. My dining companions had Cajun chicken and the breaded haddock. All of us enjoyed our meal and the lovely view of the mill and river.

stayed here in april 2015. booked it through cottages 4 u. it has to be the worst cottage EVER. the front door key was bent over, so took ages to open, the door was a stable door and didnt even close properly. we had asked for a travel cot, it was not there, the double bed in room 2 was broken(the manager told me the previous clients must have broken it. he also told cottages 4 u that we broke it. it was

Very friendly and clean hotel and all staff friendly and so were other consumers present, food a night was very good and plentyfull with nice surroundings, breakfast overcooked and sitting times weren't required.

Restaurant was empty, but service was very slow. Half the tabled serviced and the other half waited 5 mins for desserts and there was only 7 of us. Food was nice when it came but could have been hotter. Waiters were curt and polite. Place was cold and female toilets freezing. Have been before and had a much nicer experience. Disappointed.

Never been disappointed with the Dalgarven. I have been for many functions and meals, including my dads wedding and it's been great every time!

Headed here for Sunday lunch. Really wish we hadn't. Unwelcoming and unfriendly. Asked what kind of white wine they had, was told "house" in a take it or leave it way. Ordered whole trout with salad and haddock and chips. Waited an inordinate amount of time and it wasn't worth the wait. The bread rolls were stale. Fish was piping hot but chips were stone cold. Trout was delicious but salad was a heap of green leaves with a small tomato and two slivers of pepper, without dressing. While we were waiting the couple next to us said their food was not served the way they asked for it. All they got for their trouble was an argument. They left and for the next twenty minutes the staff, joined by a couple of locals, bad-mouthed tthe departed customers, loudly. The rest of our time there was taken up by the staff loudly criticising other staff behind their backs. Not an enjoyable experience. Had the lighting been better it may have been more obvious that the tables were not clean and the carpets had not been hoovered. Pretty bad show

Never seen a sight like it not one tablecloth had been ironed in restaurant dirty cutlery and dirty glasses tables not set appropriately the girls serving didn't have a clue jumping from one table to next husband and son served starter 5 min before I got mine which is a disgrace they were finished by the time I was starting my starter same again then happened for dessert though one dessert didn't come at all till after we had paid the bill staff looked shocked when we complained I have ate here on many occasions before and have never experienced this bad service before / new staff ? Think if I were manager someone would be collecting there p45 on Monday

My husband and I were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago and as we had had our wedding meal in Dalgarven and had a wonderful time we decided to return on Saturday (24th January) night with 22 friends and family. I'm sorry to say the whole evening was a total shambles from start to finish. When we arrived we were escorted to the couches outside the restaurant and a few of the men headed to the bar to buy drinks. After waiting 20 minutes to be served my father-in-law caught the attention of the barmaid and was not very politely told she was busy serving a table. He pointed out that he had been at the bar 10 minutes before this group of people arrived! surely good bar staff can As we went through to the restaurant my husband went to organise wine for our table. He ordered 8 bottles of Chilean wine, 5 white and 3 red. What was delivered to us was 5 bottles of French wine. When he queried this with the bar staff we were told there was no Chilean left so he had decided to give us the French and that there was only 5 bottles, he would have to find more. He did and asked my husband "just to take them through for him”. We then had to ask for wine glassed 6 times before we were given any so we could drink the wine we didn't order! By this point I had noticed that no one had any room at the table. We were so squashed in that some people had to move their chairs around to try and find some space to eat comfortably. We ordered our meals and our starters began to arrive at the table. Some time later 20 of us had finished but 4 were still waiting. There was a discrepancy over one of the starters brought and one of my guests had to point out the menu to the waitress to prove she had ordered correctly. Main meals were brought out. From the menu we had chosen most people had ordered sirloin steak. When ordering we had given our specifications as to how we wanted our steak cooked. When one friend asked to return her steak as she had ordered well done and was given rare she was told that for such a large crowd the chef just cooks them all the same!! We then started swapping plates round until we all had the correct one, now slightly cold. Many people were unable to cut there steaks as they were so well done. A few people had ordered the duck with plum sauce yet it was served with the same gravy that came with the steak. Again this was pointed out to the waitress and once again she was very rude. Desserts were brought out and we asked one waitress if she could possibly clear away left over dinner dishes before bringing out any more. The sight of congealing steak, chips and gravy is not very great to look at when you are trying to eat your pudding! We then had to ask for spoons to eat our desserts, again we asked quite a few times before they were bought.I feel really let down by Dalgarven House. What should have been a wonderful celebratory night for us was turned into a mockery. I feel I shouldn't have had to spend my whole night apologising to all my friends. I was totally embarrassed by the lack of professionalism any of the staff seem to have. Since sending this email to Dalgarven 4 weeks ago I have heard nothing from them, not even an apology.

I have been here many, many times over the years for many different reasons.Weddings, engagements, birthdays, just food, just drinks, even to stay the night even though it is just 3 miles from my home!The food has always been lovely, the drinks always served with a smile.When my ex wife and I stayed over night to celebrate our engagement they gave us the honeymoon suite at half price (maybe this was because we were regulars, it was a lovely incentive anyway).I cannot recommend highly enough.I did only give 3 stars for atmosphere but that's only because it is very relaxed and my preference when out is for something a bit more upbeat, this however is no slur in the place as sometimes the relaxing ambience is just what you need!

desserts were to die for, large choice for a set menu and piping hot i had the cajun chicken which was lovely and my husband had the steak which he demolished

Ate here 17th Jan. Special birthday guest. Think whole experience terrible. Arrived earlier than rest of party sat in warm snug,off bar, cosy and warm. Wish whole night had been there. When all party arrived shown into cold unwelcoming conservatory. No character on cold snowy January night. Meals all took long time to arrive and were expensive for size portions and quality of food. My haunch of venison wasn't bad BUT not cooked as I'd asked. Haggis chicken tasteless and fish dry were only a few comments. Wait for meals unacceptable and when some ordered dessert and others asked for coffee/tea instead were not given them till others had finished dessert. Despite asking twice! Meanwhile staff hardly paid any attention to us. So cold couldn't enjoy conversation or food and wait for service or courses unacceptable. Coffee when arrived was cold and cappuccino tasted of milk no coffee. Personally I would have complained but as wasn't wanting to spoil night I couldn't and host didn't like to. This was not an experience I will ever repeat here again !! They did have a Burns supper on in another room. Perhaps too busy for us but really if you can't cope then don't overbook. Shocking treatment !!

Nice menu and good selection. Plus a few specialities on offer. General customer service standards good with only a minor glitch from one of the team which really let them down.

Über Weihnachten bis zum 3.1.15 waren wir in verschiedenen Restaurants in Schottland essen. Da war eine Dorfkneipe tausendmal besser als diese Restaurant. Mit vier Personen bestellten wir mehrere Gänge. Der erste Gang kam für alle gleichzeitig, die Fritten für die Hauptmahlzeit kamen gut 5 Minuten vor den ersten drei Gerichten. Nach weiteren 10 Minuten kam das medium bestellte Steak. Welches durchgebraten war und wegen nicht vorhandenem Steakbesteck nicht wirklich gut zu schneiden war. Da Dessert kam dann wieder für alle zusammen. Die Toiletten waren unsauber und einem sehr maroden Zustand. Bei der Bezahlung der Rechnung sprachen wir die Gegebenheiten des Essens an, jedoch versuchte man sich rauszureden, dass ja viel zu tun wäre. Wir haben jedoch nur wenige Gäste im Restaurant wahrnehmen können. Eine Minderung des Rechnungspreise wurde uns nicht angeboten. Eine Entschuldigung war auch nicht drin. Also keinerlei Empfehlung für diese Einrichtung.

The food and service are fine however there are much nicer restaurants for the same price in the area. Sorry I like my food!

My partner and I come here all the time! The meals are to die for. Staff are fantastic and are very warm and welcoming. I have found no fault at this hotel and I have most probably been in every part of it. Very clean and well presented! It was a few months ago I came across the owners (chef) homemade steak pie that I have started going here as much as i can as it really is to die for. The steak jut melts in your mouth, veg is cooked to perfection, pastry tastes amazing also! To be honest everything about this hotel is amazing!! Wouldn't go anywhere else!!!!

We ate in the freezing conservatory which shouldnt have been open under such circumstances. We arrived at 1pm to be shown to the restaurant which had 1 tiny blow heater.This done nothing for the 4 tables that were occupied and on informing the waitress that the area was freezing, she stated that it was always cold which we were shocked to hear.In our opinion the area was too cold to eat and the food wasnt much better either.We left without having a desert of finishing our drinks as our hands & feet became colder during the stay.Like us, other guests had to keep their coats on in trying to remain warm.Management really need to urgently address this fridge of a place.We most certainly wouldnt return or recommend this venue to anyone we know.

Recently stayed here whilst on business first room I was allocated had dirty towels got them changed only to find the bed sheets were also dirty. Then allocated a new room only to find the bed sheets were stained and dirty also the manager then came with fresh sheet for bed only to ask me to help make the bed the room was cold and damp a place to avoid at all costs

Table was booked for nine of us but on arrival was only set up for eight. Haggis/black pudding starter was just dumped on the middle of plate with no effort to make it look appetizing. Waitress spilled hot sauce on the back of one of our party. I ordered stilton and mushroom sauce... Poured it all over meal only to discover it was some kind of sweet and sour affair so couldn't eat meal. Had to go into busy bar to find staff to discuss this. She finally returned blaming the chef for not understanding which mushroom sauce has been offered. She said the sauce would be taken off the bill despite the fact the entire meal was inedible. I would agree that most of the menu is just frozen food but the only redeeming thing I can say was that the special super menu and grill night menu were very cheap and had I been given the sauce that I ordered I would have enjoyed the meal. We asked for two latte coffees and were informed that "the coffee machine is buggered".... all on all just not up to the standard I would expect.
