A lovely traditional pub! We popped in after looking at the reviews for a number of places in the area. Friendly welcome on arrival and excellent service. The food was obviously home cooked and was very high quality. We shared 2 x pulled pork nachos for starters and then had the ribs, chicken burger, steak pie and pizza- all cooked to perfection.

We booked a table here for my partners birthday and we took one of our dogs and we were genuinely surprised at how amazing the food was. Freshly cooked, hand made and such generous portions. I’d definitely eat here again, but if I don’t make it back, I’d highly recommend you try it. And we even told the lovely landlady how good the food was. We had light bites as it was far too hot for a heavy meal. Beer battered mushrooms, chicken goujons and dough balls to die for…and the chips….such a generous portion we had to take them away with us.

We were greeted by a super friendly hostess and she took our order quickly. The price is amazingly good, compared to what we would normally pay in the Lake District. Three mains and drinks plus one desert came to £56 in total. Food were all in very generous portion. We were very pleased and would return anytime soon.

My family and I recently came here for dinner for the first time. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, we were made to feel like old friends, rather than tourists. The pub itself is down to earth and exactly what you want from an old British pub. And then the food, the food was magnificent. The sort of fresh, home cooked, good old British food your mum would make - well not my mum, but you get the picture. I highly recommend the steak and ale pie. If it wasn’t 700 mile away, we’d be eating here regularly. Thank you Masons Arms for your outstanding hospitality and food, you should be proud of yourselves.

Good lord what a lovely Sunday Lunch!!!We got battered on Cross Fell so where feeling PROPER sorry for ourselves so we booked into the Masons Arms!We had two Sunday dinners and they were bloody amazing! I’m a right greedy sod and ALWAYS feel like pubs are tight arsed but not a problem here!lovely big portions!! We washed it down with a locale Ale and a pudding each (obviously.. who doesn’t?!) .. fudge cake and a apple and raspberry crumble .. all this was done in front of an open fire!!!The landlady was a star! Really lovely and welcoming!! Even in COVID times her warmth and passion for her pub came across!! We mucked her about a bit with timings too!!!If it wasnt uncouth to swear id of said this place was effing wonderful!!We do a lot of poncing about on the hills so we absolutely will be back!!

Friendly pub and dogs welcome. Could benefit from a refurbishment. The meal was not fantastic, and although hot, not the best. My partner had a chicken burger, which turned out to be a pale bit of chicken in a tiny roll. The salad was very uninspiring. I had a good beef and ale pie, but the veg was small portioned and undercooked. The chairs were uncomfortable, and poor dog had hard stone floor to sit on. Good staff and friendly folk. We have eaten in a lot better village pubs, which was shame because this was literally on our doorstep. I would advise a new chef, and menu upgrade.

This review is not so much about the excellent slow braised steak and ale pie, well done Lynn, or about the best creamed leeks ever tasted, well done kitchen team, or about the great quality food served piping hot well cooked and in a timely fashion. It's not about the apple and gooseberry crumble that is on the menu as being served with fresh cream or ice cream, yet being a traditionalist it must be served with custard and when asked if custard was available I was met with of course I can arrange that for you. It is more to do with faceless people leaving negative remarks about this village pub. I eat or drink there every week never once having to raise any issues with Andy or Karen. When they ask " is everything all right" they are genuinely interested that everything is all right. It is not some throw away remark whispered in passing. All of the staff want you to have the best possible experience whether you are eating or drinking there. This is a village pub, don't expect to be served food 5 mins after walking in.If it is immediate mediocre food you crave, served impersonally, better to nip into Penrith there you will find MacDonald's, KFC, Subway and other food outlets. When you go to the Mason's you are walking into a village pub with atmosphere where conversations take place before, during and after ordering food or drink. Embrace the place. The locals welcome visitors as do all the staff. How downright rude is it when strangers who have been made to feel welcome and who when asked "is everything all right" say yes, and then go home and use the platform that is TripAdvisor to leave negative reviews. If food or drink is served that is not what you were expecting or if you think it is sub-standard open a dialogue there and then and I will guarantee your concern will be addressed immediately and in favour. That simple process will ensure your visit is an enjoyable one, will mean a possible return, and relieves the pressure of rushing home to hide behind TripAdvisor and try to downgrade the establishment and all those who work hard in it with negative un-called for remarks.Northwestnige.

My guest's food was very nice though I got a proper burger instead of the vegetarian one I ordered. I didn't realise until taking a bite - bit of a shock after not eating meat for 25 years. It was also served on a chopping board with the chips in one of those daft miniture frying baskets - very silly. Have you not heard of the 'we want plates' campaign! The pub part was nice, full of locals and the staff were freindly. If we had eaten somewhere else we would have had a much nicer time.

We chose from the al a carte menu but there is an alternative, more restricted choice on a menu of three or two courses. Helpings were satisfying without being over the top (although none of us were brave enough to try the mixed grill) and although I had no room for a pudding, the ones the others chose were, I was told, delicious. We turned up and got a table in the restaurant, very dated.. the staff were pleasent however that's was the only positive the food was dreadful none of the customers were happy the quality was just not there. Cold starter? The only problem it should have been hot as I got a fish cake. The burger that arrived for my main course was just like a cheep one you would get from Neto the frozen type.I complain and the food was reduced however it should have been free, I was just too soft but did not want to argue the point.

Bustling and loud on a Saturday night, but a warm welcome and excellent food. Only criticism no toilet paper in the ladies loo and limited wine selection! But don't let that stop you definitely worth a family meal! Ohh and dogs are welcome

If you want an excellent example of a country pub this is it. Located in the centre of Long marton. The atmosphere is great, locals and visitors, and the service is friendly. The food is excellent as too is the beer. Walk it off with a short walk around the village

Had a fabulous time at the Masons while staying in the village. Made to feel really welcome by Karen, the landlady, from when we arrived, and the waitresses were lovely too. We all went for burgers, superb homemade big burgers. I had the Cumberland burger topped with a Cumberland sausage, black pudding and onion ring - wow! A pub with a good atmosphere and a good local crowd. Can recommend the local beer too.

We live in Long Marton so it is really handy to go for a meal. The bar staff are lovely including Chloe the barmaid and Karen the landlady. The food is a solid 10/10 I really want to say Jason is a fantastic cook. Everybody makes you feel welcome. Dogs are aloud but only in the bar. When there is football tournaments on TV. It is always on which is very good for me because I am a big Man United fan. 10/10 5 stars really recommend this family and welcoming pub.

We both had the burger meals which were great and the kids had kids meals which were also great with mahoosive portions! Karen the land lady was brilliant made us feel almost like one of her own and kept the kids entertained and smiling! Overall great food at a decent price and fantastic service will be back!!

The menu choices were good and the landlady on arrival was welcoming and friendly. Garlic mushrooms were gorgeous but the whitebait had no batter and was raw and therefore inedible. Reasonable prices though 2 courses for about £11 which is great. mains were good too the chicken in mushroom cream sauce was great but the other people I was with didn't like the burger it seemed way over cooked and not good quality meat. The sausage meal was also lovely. The kids menu had enough choices. We didn't have sweets so cant comment. When sat at the table we waited ages for menus and waited ages for food and it seemed like the waitresses were avoiding helping and the landlady was rushing around! I think 1 of the waitresses was new maybe even on her trial night but we never got asked did we want more drinks so went up to the bar for them, which resulted in them probably making less money out of us. The setting is lovely and everything was clean and then dining area was separate to the bar area that was full of locals. overall I loved my food but other people really didn't like theirs. The landlady though really made the visit and couldn't have tried to be more helpful 10/10 for her

the mason has changed hands since we were last here. Our group arrived the bar was quite full with locals celebrating an england win in the euro football. the landlady took us through to the next room and brought drinks to the table. The menu seemed simaler to the last time we were here so I am not sure if it is the same chef. We all enjoyed our meal I had the chicken in a cream sauce and a white choc cheesecake. there was some confusion when we paid as we all thought we had paid to much. When all came apparent that when the waitress brought the sweet menu she didnt tell us that it wasnt the one on the special menu. In other words we didnt get the choice and if we had known we could have had the choice of either. so just rather spoilt the night. the food was good but we will be more careful if we go again.

Very good food in a friendly and welcoming Bistro. We had booked but arrive 2 hours earlier than planned and called on the off chance we could eat sooner. this was not a problem but at busy times I think its probably worth booking .Looking at the size of the portions I opted for 2 starters Tempura prawns with a light garlic mayo. dip and the Cheese Souffle which were both delicious. My partner decided on soup followed by the Sunday roast beef. Both excellent . Neither of us could manage a desert - perhaps next time!

We visited the Mason Arms on Saturday and what a great experience it was! Karen Gunn (landlady) was an absolute star! Not only did she accommodate around 25 people for lunch, she actually helped to get us all back to our cottages after we overestimated how far away we were. Great food and even better service. Well worth getting to if you are staying anywhere around this lovely area.

We were staying in the village and walked to the pub on Friday night. It was quite full with a lot of youths playing dominoes but with good behavior and quite funny. Others said hello as we made our way to the bar. The Bar lady made us very welcome and and some stood at the bar said hello and moved so we could be served. We ordered a couple of drinks and the bar lady said she would bring them over. We sat in the restaurant area but near the bar. Our drinks arrived and she stayed to have a little chat before returning to the bar. We asked if the valentines day menu required us to book a table and were told probably best so we did and set a time. Later we left after more chats with the Landlady and bar staff.Returning on Sunday night we were made very welcome again and the landlady even remembered our names. Ordering drinks we were shown to our tables with other visitors again saying hello. The Landlady returned with our drinks and menus. She returned shortly afterwards and took our orders. Other people were already eating and we heard many compliments about the food. All three courses were excellent and only cost £15.95 per person. More wonderful chats with the landlady and all too soon our evening drew to a close. We were given a lovely goodnight wish and thank you. An excellent evening and a place I would highly recommend. We will certainly visit this pub again when up this way.

Visited on a Saturday evening for a meal and drink. We booked a table and it was available when we arrived. The place had a good atmosphere with not too many people staring at us when we entered (not being locals!). The fire was roaring which was appreciated on a cold January night. The food was ordered promptly and came quickly. To say there was loads is an understatement - it was piled high. All home cooked - even the chips - no straight from the freezer rubbish. There was a good choice and as a non-meat eater I was spoiled for choice.A good range of prices too, from the expensive steaks to the every day fish and chips. Some yummy looking puddings too, but we were too full after the main meal. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a good place for a meal out and drink.

My family and I often visit for birthdays/celebrations etc. not only for the fantastic food but also because at £13 for three wonderful courses (on a week day) how can you go wrong?! The staff sometimes appear slightly flustered, but you can't fault their enthusiasm. Can wait to return again before the pub is taken over by new management. I hope the new proprietors uphold the pub's reputable status.

Never usually write reviews but extremely disappointed. Waited an hour before starters arrived even though it wasn't that busy. Battered mushrooms were under cooked and completely soaked in vinagerette. Main course wasn't much better with over cooked chips. The service was also disappointing with not once being asked how our meal was. Asked for the bill twice and waited 15 minutes for it to arrive. Really felt that we were not locals so they weren't bothered if we had a good meal or not!!!

We took some friends here for a meal, the first time we had eaten here. The quality, quantity & presentation of the food was superb & so was the service. This made the Masons Arms also super value for money. We had the duck & the Salmon. As owners of a local B&B guess where we will be recommending our guests go to eat?

Having just had a recent stay in the village of Long Marton we ate here on 2 occasions. The food was delicious and the welcome warm. The 3 course special menu was superb value and the food much more than "pub grub"! The Sunday dinner was also fantastic and again much better than "Sunday carvery" offered at many pubs. I would highly recommend this cosy pub for high quality food.

We have eaten here on many occasions enjoying Sunday lunch and evening three course offer menu. We recently had a really good Sunday lunch, sharing a starter of prawn and smoked salmon followed by roast beef and both had to regretfully leave some of the main course as we were so full. Can highly recommend The Masons Arms to anyone looking for a well cooked good value for money meal.

I went for the first time last night, I was so pleasantly surprised, the food was delicious and to be able to get three courses for under £11.00 was fantastic. When I saw the menu and the cost I was a bit unsure of what the quality would be like, credit to the chef the food looked lovely and tasted even better, I had black pudding to start with, then delicious pork in a peppercorn sauce with lovely veg and chips, I then managed but only just to get in a banana split the pudding was enormous. I will most defiantly be going back as I am fed up with pubs charging the earth for food. I have been told the Sunday lunch is very special so will be booking in very soon. Well done and keep up the good work!!

I have visited this pub 3 times now in the past 2 months. I keep returning as the 3 course menu on a Wed, Thur or Friday evening is first class and of a very high standard. There is a good choice of starter, main and dessert; all for under £11-00. Best to book a table by telephone as it is deservedly popular. The main eating area is set in a darker room than I would like, due to low beams, but that is small beer in comparison to the food, which I believe is of Hotel standard. A shame only 1 real ale is on sale, their wet sales are low in this area I was told, but this pub is highly recommended for food on the 3 weekday evenings I have mentioned. The pub is closed lunchtimes on all weekdays.

Drinks one visit, delicious meal the next. Besides the great food and service on our visits, I lost my glasses there and didn't realise until I got home. Not only did the Ormidale staff find my glasses, they also took the time to phone and let me know and post them to me. Above and beyond. We would highly recommend The Ormidale for its service, atmosphere, food and after care of careless customers! Thank you.

We played two rounds at Lamlash on the weekend of 10th May and really enjoyed the experience. Relatively short course, but by no means easy and some tremendous scenery to view throughout. We were fortunate to have great weather as well. We were well looked after by Drew at the Starters Box on Friday and again by James when we played on Sunday. Sincere thanks to both gentlemen for looking after us. If we are back to Arran again for golf we will for sure play Lamlash. Would not hesitate to recommend.
