What a delightful discovery. A wonderful stopping point if/when touring the borders.
We we’re meeting up with family and had a one night stay. Just wished we could have had extended it.
Very comfortable room with a modern en-suite.
Our family meal in the restaurant was loved by all. Excellent menu for both adults and kids. An extensive menu which was backed up by quality food and presentation.
Cosy bar offering cask ales, wines and spirits to suit all.
We had without doubt the best breakfast served in any establishment in the country. Again an extensive menu which could give you a different breakfast plate for at least a week.
Our hosts were so warm and friendly and run a very well organised establishment.
Highly recommend The Allanton Inn. We will certainly return for a much longer stay soon.
Popped in here for a quick cup of tea on my way back up to Edinburgh during the week. Really friendly welcome and great choice of cakes to go with a nice pot of tea. Nice relaxed atmosphere and you can watch the world go by from seats in the window. Coffee and walnut cake absolutely delicious and service was top-notch with tables all spotlessly clean.
I'm aware the house o'hill has just opened back up but our experience was as if we had just walked into faulty towers, there was a boss lady trying to take orders but didn't have a clue, a boss man that just wanted to stand at pizza counter and do nothing and a poor girl stuck on till not knowing how to work till and don't forget jack and Victor in the kitchen, there was 6 tables with people sitting and you thought there was 36 most meals came out late and wrong, also no alcohol sold people will wait for a meal if there drinking alcohol but not if there drinking coke, food was basic but good when we eventually got it, for the life of me I don't know what the problem was cause me and my wife could have served and cooked what was sitting on Saturday night ourselves with no help, I really hope they can turn this round
I visited Thomas Tosh last week while passing through Thornhill. Delighted to see that my favourite lemon and raisin cake is back on the menu, and that as always, the coffee, service and general atmosphere is good as ever! Thanks again to the staff, will be back next time I’m in the area
Staff very kind hygenic easy access very good food all homemade meals healthy choices and the sour dough toast with poached egg and bacon speaks for itself.
We called in today at 3ish. Too late for lunch, so we had a scone, a piece of cake with coffee each. Best scones we have ever had and the cakes are to die for.
The staff were really friendly, cant wait to go again.
Friendly café/restaurant with a great range of food on offer. We were only in need of some hot drinks on a cold, but sunny day. However, we decided to add a delicious shared carrot cake to our cappuccino and pot of tea
Great stop for a breakfast nap, food was great, service really good and we were blessed with sunshine in early April to sit outside. Well worth dropping in, also the cake selection looks amazing and may be perused before we leave!!

Another brilliant evening at Salt n Fire, Kelso - we eaten here several times now and the food is always excellent - the staff are great, nothing is too much trouble and we always have a laugh with them. Happy family birthday meal at the weekend :)) thank you 😃🙏
Great wee restaurant. We had great coffees and delicious cakes but they also have a good selection of sandwiches salads and soup. Lovely staff. Well worth another visit. Ideal surroundings can eat inside or out.
A lovely place to visit with very friendly, helpful owners. They were very accomodating with food intolerances, and the meals we chose were excellent, good prices too, would recommend to others.
