The best restaurants in North Berwick Coastal East Lothian Edinburgh and Lothian

My wife and I were in East Lothian for a family event. I found a hotel in Gullane on Tripadvisor. I asked my family for a restaurant recommendation. They did not reply in time. I looked on Tripadvisor and was intrigued by La Potiniere's intimate approach. I was also intrigued by its reviews and thought they were too good to be true, but thought if even if 50% of the reviews were genuine it must be pretty good. I booked and fortunately the night we were there La Potiniere was open and they had a table available for my wife and I. Well, the reviews were right and some! My wife and I have lived and worked around the world, and have been very fortunate to dine in some of the world's top restaurants for business and pleasure. We debated and concluded La Potiniere gets into our Top 10. The food was superb, but so was the intimate, personal, quiet, refined, professional environment and service. It was not pretentious, formal, stuffy nor up its own @r5e unlike many of the top restaurants. It was also excellent value for its quality. We also had the wine pairing to complete the experience. We only saw the Keith part of the Keith and Mary equation, as Mary was creating her magic in the kitchen, however, Keith had just a perfect approach to us as diners service-wise. He was passionate about his restaurant, its food etc and took the time to answer all our questions about how things were prepared, the ingredients used etc. We shall return! Thank you La Potiniere for a truly wonderful evening of food, wine and service.

We very much enjoyed an amazing platter for two. A whole prepared lobster, champagne lobster pate, dressed crab, prawn cocktail, smoked salmon, hot smoked salmon, a box of super Greek salad,oatcakes, crusty bread. It was beautifully presented and delivered on a covered platter. Enough amazing food to last us a couple of days. Highly recommend all their products,produced by a small family business.

Delicious coffee and scones with amazing friendliness from the ladies serving. Can’t wait to return. Tables were filling up fast. Only on street parking is available but not a great issue.

45 years in catering don't think I've had a better sandwich (beef brisket). Good luck with your new venture.

A beautiful, cosy café with fabulous homemade food and delicious looking cakes. The ladies are lovely and welcoming and the whole experience is quite delightful...

I visited North Berwick last week and asked my hosts to book a good restaurant for us. They did and it was GOOD. It ranks as one of the best I have ever dined in. Unfortunately we didn’t have a photograph taken there so the photo’ was taken whilst having a nightcap.

A great place, friendly and welcoming. It's a must if you're staying over in North Berwick.

Lovely family restaurant, great service, nice specials

Staff was quick and very kind, food was excellent and everything was lovely. I'll come back there with no hurrys next time. I promise!

Really disappointing experience. Underdone soggy pizza. Waiting staff were very young and the owner didn't move from behind the bar, he didn't really seem that interested in what was going on.

Good breakfast and great latte, but they need to learn how to correctly make a poached egg. Eggs were a huge let down. Everything else was good and server was funny and nice!

Went for a family meal as everyone likes Italian food. Food was decent enough but nothing special. All the waiting staff were just downright rude, especially the female. Any attempts to make polite conversation were met with a stoney stare and a wall of silence. (and it wasn't due to a language barrier). Won't be returning because of the rude staff.

We were welcomed with a genuine smile and seated at table around the room as per our booking. The food was excellent and the service provided was great. The shearing started and my seafood pasta especially superb. Pasta was not overcooked and just perfect.

Called in for a bite to eat and a coffee. Great service and friendly staff. Speedy arrival if food and drink. Plenty foods to choose from. Will be back 😄
