Osteria in East Lothian

First time in Osteria. Dined here on the early bird menu. Food and staff were first class. From the moment we walked in, to us leaving, service was excellent. The food was delicious, very tasty and beautifully presented. Enjoyed a lovely red wine recommended by our waiter. Lovely ambience in the restaurant. Looking forward to our next visit.

Top meal & my favourite dinner spot in North Berwick. High level friendly service, quality ingredients & perfect cooking & presentation. You can tell they hold themselves to a high standard. Highly recommended.

Wat een feest! Wij hebben genoten van een heerlijke 2 en 3 gangen lunch. Werkelijk van bediening tot de keuken was TOP! .De lokatie van dit Italiaans restaurant ligt 71 High Street. Wij, 4 oudere ( jong in ons hart) dames zijn er voorbijgelopen daar de lamellen voor de ramen gesloten zijn. Persoonlijk zou ik voor mooie houten lamellen (wit of zwart) kiezen….half geopend 😉

Absolutely wonderful food , great friendly service. We were there with daughter, son in law and grandchildren and every dish was a delight. The staff were so kind to the kids.

Our meal at Osteria was fantastic! Beautifully cooked with great flavour combinations, accompanied by a lovely Primativo! I will definitely dine here again when I'm next in North Berwick.

Yet another faultless night of food, wine, service and company.

1st class service from Angelo and Stefano. The food here is excellent and the standard the same on every visit. The wines we have tried have all been superb and they do a mean Negroni too.

My wife and I sometimes eat here as a special treat, and are never disappointed. On our recent visit the food was exquisite: so fresh and perfectly cooked. And the wine we chose (a Savuvignon Coolio) was amongst the best wines we've ever had to. If you want a relaxed meal with attentive but discrete service, look no further. The reviews really are accurate! But book in advance, it's very popular so turn-up-and-eat is rare.

Amazing food and such good value. Couldn't believe how attentive the front of house staff were. A family run restaurant. If you travelled outside North Berwick for this experience you definitely would be paying at least double! Absolutely delicious meal with a lovely ambience. Highly recommend

A pretty perfect little restaurant. Charming front of house service, delightful food and a well-priced wine list. We had perfectly cooked monkfish, followed by one of the best panacottas I have tasted. All accompanied by an excellent Gavi, and followed by a really genuine Limoncello. Highly recommended.

What a find! Small amd perfectly formed local Italian restaurant. Cozy but sophisticated, wonderful warm and attentive service, excellent well seasoned and well proportioned food, cooked to a very high standard. Basically there is nothing to criticise, and I live to criticise! Go and enjoy.

What an amazing food experience, beyond any expectations. Best meal I have had in several years. Did not have an appetite when I arrived, I could stay all night in anticipation of the next dish. Special beyond words.

Loved their homemade tagliolini tossed with courgettes and chestnut mushrooms on a pecorino cheese fondue! Al dente, aromatic, and creamy, silky in the mouth. A genuine delight to have lunch here followed by a nice beach walk. Good location, too. Good recommendation of rose. We felt welcome and the front-of-house was flawless to complement such talented kitchen team. Super good value for money for their 3-course lunch menu.

Well what can one say that's not already been said? Decided last minute to book a table for Dinner and managed to get an early slot. Angelo and his team, as always, served up a super meal and the service was top notch! It's not surprising that the Times gave them such a good review!

The rose-red slices of raw beef fillet are cut expertly thin, almost translucent, and streaked with fat. Yet this carpaccio is so soft, so melty, so full of feels in the mouth, I come perilously close to abandoning my principles. It’s drizzled with taleggio cheese fondue, lighter and less ripe than hoped for, closer to a mild cream. Dessert is a perfect tiramisu, all unending (and unfinishable) ruffles of cream and savoiardi soaked in booze.

Visited this restaurant in the recommendation of local friends. The food is excellent and staff really friendly and professional. Definitely worth a visit but make sure you book in advance.

An absolutely exceptional family run restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble and the food is unbelievable. Every time I have been here it has been brilliant. Kudos to Angelo and Stefano, and the brilliant kitchen staff. Highly recommended. Get yourself here for a true culinary experience.

What a special restaurant this is. The food is superb and is matched by the quality of service. You might say that the menu is somewhat limited but no matter every single dish is cooked with care and oozes class. The two gentleman who served us were first rate: attentive, courteous and efficient. On top of this it’s a small but intimate, warm and cosy ambience. Fantastic.

We arrived at 7pm without a reservation and asked if a table was available and fortunately for us there had been a no show. We were fortunate enough to get a table as there was a cancellation. Not knowing the area of the restaurant we looked at the reviews and decided to give it a try. It was absolutely amazing. The service was personal attentive and very friendly. The food was out of this world amazing the flavours the presentation everything was outstanding can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Thank you very much for giving us an amazing memorable evening with the most wonderful food service and the delicious wine that was recommended all at a very reasonable price. Osteria is undoubtedly one of my favourite restaurants I've ever eaten at. As someone who enjoys everything from fine dining to a Maccies; Osteria just hits on every point. The Food: I had a duck terrine followed by the beef cheeks and it was one of the most flavourful and delicious meals I've ever had, hands down. Great care has been taken with portion size and presentation and everything feels like it has its place. The Service: The family run restaurant is attentive and friendly. You are welcomed in and given a five star service from start to finish with the staff taking their time to talk to you when you wish and leave you if you are busy talking. The service is quick but you will never feel rushed and the attention to the layout of the table is important to the staff. My partner spilled some wine and the staff took it upon themselves to clean up and cover the wine stain which was such a nice note and handled in a no hassle and respectful manner. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is homely and despite being a small space, there is plenty of room between tables. We were certainly the youngest people at the restaurant by at least a decade and treated with the same level as respect as anyone our senior. All in all, this is the second time I have been to Osteria and the second time I have been wowed. North Berwick is now somewhere I would come to SPECIFICALLY to visit Osteria and when you go you will see why. Please visit this outstanding establishment and show the staff your love. This is a restaurant that you will talk with your friends, family, work colleagues etc. for years to come. I certainly do and will continue to rave about my experience here.

A friend told me about Osteria. Upon arrival to North Berwick, I called, was booked all week. On our last night, we chanced a walk-in and got a table an hour later. Service was impeccable, and the food was great. Owner Angelo served us, and we talked together long after the meal, so engaging. A great little osteria, only nine tables, intimate feel, just spot on with every detail. Book ahead !!

Just had the best dining experience ever! If you look at the set menu price first - don’t! The food is the best I have ever had - every course amazing! The service made me feel like a celeb & the ambiance was so relaxed. The first thing we do when we’ve booked accommodation for nd t year is book Osteria. Truly the best overall dining experience

We had an evening meal here. The food was fabulous and freshly prepared. very tasty. There was an extensive wine list and our choice was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be back.

Excellent restaurant with amazing and delicious food. If you want to try some really good fine Italian cuisine, that goes beyond the typical pizza and pasta, then you have to try this place. Also, the staff are extremely friendly, 100% recommended!

Lovely place. Fantastic staff. However for some reason my food wasn’t so great, however the rest of my parties was excellent. And the wine list was superb. My thoughts: avoid the seafood pasta starter - mine was like rubber. And ‘fish of the day’ was like a dry breaded Captain Birdseye job. I may have been unlucky on the night. However I had massive food envy as the other 7 in the party had excellent food. Maybe just bad choices on my part. And would not stop me trying again.

We really thought the service here was next level. They really do go above and beyond to give a very sharp dining experience. I would say my experience of family run Italian restaurants have been a bit more relaxed so it would I recommend this if you are looking for somewhere a bit more special. Food was lovely - however the portions were very small. I wouldn’t recommend this for someone with a big appetite. If i compare this to standard family run Italians I would say you may leave feeling a bit hungry in comparison. I can not fault the cooking and presentation of the dishes. I would have just liked more for the money that we paid. Final note- Beautiful wines selections & great deserts!

Absolutely fantastic food in a small and friendly restaurant. Every course was impeccably presented and tasted like God him/her self had prepared them, and then laced them with goodness that can only be achieved by grinding unicorn horn and sprinkling it over the top. My only complaint is that I was unable to stop myself from eating and am therefore slightly bloated today. Fully deserving of the vast array of awards it's won, and definitely worth splashing out on.

The food is out of this world, I have never experienced such beautifully presented and prepared culinary delights. The pannecotta was the best I had ever tasted. Me and the good lady were in osteria on the 18th June Michelin * restaurant and it was that pricey but lovely our mains were very good indeed the staff were very curtious at all times my stuffed chicken breast with parmesan and pancetta was delicious and my wifes pasta dish also was fab ..

Osteria is a jewel in the crown of Scottish restaurants, I have been going for 15 years and never been disappointed. Number one is the welcome and service you receive at Osteria it is like meeting old friends. This is a family run restaurant at it's best, it just oozes quality and Angelo and his son are host of the highest order and the hidden jem is in the kitchen.

Osteria is centrally located in North Berwick. We were introduced to the restaurant by friends and were there for lunch. Firstly, Covid precautions were strong and made us very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and clearly this is a popular place for locals. The menu is fixed price with either a two or three course option, with various options for each course; we all selected three courses. My wife had soup of the day (carrot and coriander) while I had a pasta with mushroom starter; both were very tasty. For the second course we both had fish of the day which was a medley of halibut, seabass, shrimp and scallop accompanied by mixed vegetables (sautéed potatoes, cauliflower and manges touts) while the fish portions were not overly large they were sufficient and very fresh. For dessert my wife had amaretto parfait with mango coulis while I had a mille feuille with mixed berry coulis. Both were delicious. Overall a great experience with good value for money.

I had wanted to visit Osteria for a long time and it did not disappoint ! Top class service and food. Lovely white starched tablecloths and napkins but friendly with it.One of the best meals I’ve had this years. Well worth the cost. Would love to go back. The homemade bread is SOOO good. The petit fours are delicious. The limoncello is served ice cold. Well worth the calories

Originally discounted Italian restaurants to pre-book for a short break in North Berwick, as husband has to limit gluten intake, so pizza and pasta not a good idea. Luckily we looked at the menu of Osteria which is very close to where we stayed. We booked straight away and were so pleased we did. Fantastic service, tasty food, lots of choices of things we like. Not a pizza in sight.

Was great to get back to Osteria again, post lockdown. All dishes are consistently high quality, great choice of wines and fantastic service. Their seafood dishes are my favourite. Well done in making this small restaurant Covid safe.

Clearly best restaurant in NB for a nice meal- we've lived here for a year now and tried them all. We were here as a group of 4 for the lunch menu a couple of weeks ago. Excellent service, great food & wine. Will definitely return.

We had a very nice meal, we ordered from the set menu, we had asparagus risotto followed by trout. Both were very tasty. The service was excellent.

Wonderful lunch with friends after a boat trip. We had seen dolphins and thought that would be the highlight of the day by a long way, but the food here ran it very close and the excellence of the wine list made it a tie.We live a bit too far away for this to be a regular haunt but we will definitely find a reason to come back.Excellent service and well thought through covid safety measures that weren't intrusive but made us feel safe.

Really good atmosphere, despite the "Covid-19" precautions (not too intrusive.) Food perfectly cooked and presented, interesting menu and just the right sized very tasty portions to tempt all three courses. Service perfectly pitched - friendly and professional (with spare reading glasses for those of us who forgot our own!)Good and reasonably-priced wine list.

Excellent restaurant. Food was superb. We had goat's cheese souffle and salmon tartare to start, mixed seafood platter and steak for mains. All of it was beautifully cooked. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. As it was so busy (always a good sign) we could only get a late-ish booking, but we called in at lunchtime to check if there was anything earlier available. We then had one call offering us an earlier time, and another call when our table was available. Great service before we'd even arrived. Restaurant itself is a bustling place with a great atmosphere, even on a Wednesday night. Thoroughly recommend Osteria and we will definitely be back.

On a weekend escape staycation to North Berwick we went looking for somewhere to eat and discovered a real diamond in Osteria.In order to comply with social distancing requirements management have introduced clear screens between tables that are very effective whilst maintaining the cosy ambiance of the restaurant.The staff were very attentive and looked after us very well throughout our visit but special praise is reserved for the quality of the food. Every plate was presented beautifully and tasted even better. Flavours were perfectly balanced and portion sizes were perfect to ensure that, although we cleared every plate, we left feeling comfortable.Overall this experience was excellent value for money and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a visit. We will definitely return.
