Dal Patino in East Lothian

Firstly, it's a nice wee place. Food was okay and cooked well enough. The calamari and cod dishes were more like soup, which may be a traditional recipe, but I haven't seen that in many trips to Italy. The staff were not very engaging and you had to basically wave at them to get their attention. The music was overloud bland 90's MOR, so didn't help atmosphere wise. Most reviews here are favourable, so maybe we caught them on a bad day., but I can't really imagine I'll be going back.

Very nice place, food was good and served quickly the only disappointment was it shut as soon as the food orders stopped, our table had planned to have a few drinks after our meal but it was not to be which was a pity .....other than that I would recommend Dal Patino

For me (Alongside Cafe Dominica in Sandeman Street in Leith) this is the most authentic mid priced "Italian Restaurant" experience in the Edinburgh Area. I cracked up when my sister asked for Parmesan Cheese on her sea food pasta dish and the waiter said "No". The Chef will not allow it. Total Lady and the Tramp Disney Cartoon moment. That assured I would be a regular visitor. My favoured Main is a Ravioli Dish called "Ravioli Musselburgh". Washed down with a chilled few glasses of house white. I am a (fairly recent) real fan of this restaurant. How have I missed this?

Been here I’d say once a year since it opened and sad to see the menu hasn’t changed in the last 3 years. The food isn’t great and a bit average. The menu is really big but nothing stands out and there are never specials to change it up. Musselburgh needs places like this but it’s needs an update and refresh

We had a really great meal at Dal Patino! The service was top-notch, and they were super friendly and great with the kids. The food was delicious, everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The pizza and kids spaghetti Bolognese was really good. I’d definitely recommend this place, and we’ll be back for sure!

Imagine a rustic Italian restaurant, nestled in the heart of the countryside, reminiscent of Nonna’s cosy kitchen. There’s a warm ambiance about this place. As you step inside, the scent of freshly cooked food envelops you. The walls are adorned with vintage family photos, there’s a weathered fire place, wooden floors and worn wooden tables, inviting you to sit and savour. The menu celebrates simplicity. Imagine platters of bruschetta drizzled with unfiltered extra virgin olive oil, ribbons of pasta with slow-cooked ragù, and bubbled pizzas topped with buffalo mozzarella and basil leaves. We tucked into a few sharing plates to start followed by our own mains. BURRATA AL PESTO DI POMODORINI SECCHI (£8.50) - Burrata, basil, olive oil, chopped pistachio and a sundried tomato pesto PANE E OLIO (v) (£3.50) - Homemade crusty bread served with olive oil. A gem is their Burrata al Pesto di Pomodorini Secchi—a harmonious blend of creamy burrata, fragrant basil, and the rich flavours of sundried tomato pesto. The burrata outer shell is delicate, while the interior oozes with lusciousness. The burrata rests like a treasure in the centre of the dish, its creamy heart spilling out and you can’t wait to cut it open. Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that steal our hearts. I loved the theatre of Pane E Olio dish. The Pane e Olio is a humble yet irresistible offering—a celebration of crusty bread and the liquid gold that is olive oil. Served piping hot inside a brown paper bag. Tip out the slices of hot bread and smother them in olive oil or dunk them in olive oil. My only criticism is that the olive oil is served in sachets - and I definitely do prefer olive oil served in a proper decanter! FOCACCIA AL POMODORO (v) (£7) - Focaccia with cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil. Imagine warm, pillowy focaccia, kissed by olive oil, and adorned with vibrant cherry tomatoes. The bread is golden brown, with a soft interior and a crispy crust. It’s the canvas for a flavour symphony whilst the cherry tomatoes are wee bursts of sweetness adding colour and juiciness like edible jewels. PACCHERI CALABRESE CON ‘NDUJA (£12.50) - Paccheri with ‘nduja (spicy, spreadable Italian sausage), tomato sauce, spinach, basil and aged ricotta cheese. Let the ‘nduja work its magic. Each forkful is a rollercoaster of flavours. TAGLIATELLE AL RAGU EMILIANO (£13) - Tagliatelle in a traditional bolognese sauce. A traditional dish, slow-cooked with love. Their ragu rich sauce is cradled in these silky strands of pasta so that the flavours combine in every bite. This was slightly over salted but we still demolished the dishes. CALZONE CLASSICO (£13.50) - Folded pizza filled with mozzarella, salami, ham, mushrooms and a touch of tomato sauce. This is ginormous and I feel it would be what a pizza would look like if it was a hug! Deep filled with all the best ingredients and plenty of cheese. After indulging in those delightful carbs, dessert seemed like a distant dream. However, if I had to choose, the Panna Cotta or the classic Tiramisu would have won my heart. As for the libations, while my Birre Moretti was a great choice, I’d have gladly raised a glass of chilled Pinot Grigio or a fruity Prosecco to complete the Italian experience at Dal Patino. I’m thrilled that a birthday celebration led me to Dal Patino! Although it wasn’t on my radar, I’m genuinely delighted we dined here. The food was unbelievably delicious, the service friendly and efficient, and every bite truly hit the spot.

We recently visited this family run restaurant and as usual everything was perfect as expected. However on this occasion the staff went that extra mile by being understanding and not charging me for my dish as it did not taste right to me for my dish as it did not taste right due to cancer treatment. Cannot thank you enough Eleazar Do Rego

First time in Dal Patino and it did not disappoint. It's a very quaint Italian restaurant and to add to the atmosphere, the table next to us were a noisy group of Italians who had just done the marathon, so it felt just like being in Italy. The food was superb. I had balsamic chicken, which was so tasty and went with the cheesecake, which was divine. 5 out of 5. I would heartily recommend.

Our family enjoyed a delicious meal here tonight. All the food was amazing. Highly recommend the spaghetti del mar , the tastiest I've had and I order this everywhere. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely be back. 👌

Probably the worst risotto ( never arborio rice) I’ve ever had. Pizza very average although 8/10 for the calzone. Found the place cramped, noisy and generally disappointing. Didn’t bother with dessert as put off by watching one of the waitress making them up at counter …. Not appropriate or hygienic to say the least.

Fancied a pizza when I was visiting my son and this place looked nice. The staff were very friendly and inviting and it had a nice quiet atmosphere. I wasn't disappointed with the Calzone I ordered and all heads turned as it was served to me. It looked massive. However, it was cooked to perfection and the light fluffy outer went down a treat with the stuffing. Will be back and my son will be having the Calzone!

When home from London always take mum for our girly lunch. Love how it is always the same family staff who welcome you with open arms. Had the cod, beautiful! Tiramusi..maybe changed recipe but still good. Thank you for making coming the best.

Overnighting in Edinburgh, we looked for a nice restaurant to have dinner in nearby Musselburgh. Dal Patino came up as a rustic Italian which had previous good reviews. Booked a table for dinner and on arrival found the surroundings and ambience ('Though not too busy being early sunday evening) to be very pleasnt indeed. Felt like it was a little part of Italy in Mussleburgh. Run by Italian speaking Italians, they were all very pleasant and welcoming, with no rush to move you on. More like being very laid back, but adequately attentive. The menu is extensive but not so you would think it wasn't freshly cooked. For starters we shared a Focaccia al Pomodoro which was more than sufficient for two. I chose Spaghettoni di Mare for a main which as the name suggests was a concoction of seafood, mussels and clams in shells, tiger prawns and squid in a sauce of basil, garlic and chilli over fresh spaghetti. My wife plumped for Risotto Asparagi e Salmone which needs no introduction and was delicious. This was washed down with glasses of house rose and red respectively which were both excellent and complimented the food. We don't normally go for three courses but decided that we did not want to waste the opportunity. One serving of Tiramisu which my wife assures me was the best tasted, and a home made berry crostata with ice cream. Declined the coffee but left with a cheery Ciao and vowed to return. To sum up: It was an excelent experience, far removed from the usual get them in, get them out culture that is all too prevalent these days. Wish the Dal Patino was on our doorstep. Pay them a visit and enjoy.

Warm, authentic Italian restaurant

Been to a few Italian restaurants, but this was the best, food perfect,ambience great. Definitely be back.

We walked in & table was available ! It did get busier we were early ! We got a lovely welcome but we found the room temperature far too cold ( we remembered that from last time ) & so that was a significant problem that we feel needs to be identified ! The food we chose was a minestrone soup , there was toast but we’d have preferred fresh bread … the other courses were a cod well presented but he felt too soupy & mine was a prawn spagettini really nice would have loved a couple of more prawns though but well presented ! The actual venue was well lit with fairy lights & decorations so that was well done ! We chose beer & a house rosez wine … another wee attention to detail is the waiters need to be more attentive to the tables (I used to be a waitress ) & I felt they need more eyes on the customers tables … the main thing is to get the temperature sorted not what you want for a meal out ! Ps a wee chocolat would have been a lovely touch with the bill …

Heartwarming, Italian food for all the family through all the ages. Previously had a number of visits a few years ago when they were teenagers and it was great. There was always something to suit each one. A return visit now they are in their 20s and the food is just as great if not better. We'll be back much sooner this time.

Unable to make reservations as 8 attempts to make a reservation by phone went unanswered. Not a very customer friendly approach. We went elsewhere. L Devin

food was of decent quality, but was surprised at the starter size portion of the pasta dishes we took. for 15£ pasta and sausage serving to fit in a tea cup was a little offsetting. was very tasty but made us actually make sandwiches at home after to satisfy appetite.

This is obviously a family run business, and run how the father/ chef wants to run it ! Food is good quality, fresh and well prepared. Unfortunately my wife doesnt like chilli in her food, so checks the menu and the dishes ingredients to prevent issues. So ordered calamari for starter, no mention of chilli. It had chilli and was more like a soup, so it was badly described on menu. 2nd course, a pasta ( no mention if chilli), what did it contain, eh chilli. So they took it back made another without chilli, no problem ! So experience was spoiled by this issue. My food was excellent !!

Cheeseboard at £11.50 an absolute joke for 2 tiny triangles of toast and 2 slices of cheese cut up into tiny squares but one massive apple cut up and some dark date like thing 😡. Will definitely not be back. Staff not willing to accomodate. Friends wanted half and half but told no but gave them a plate to do it themselves as their chef would not do this 😡. Was all about them and not the paying customer, which prices are extornianate. Surprised they still trade at their prices and service 😡

From what I witnessed today was completely unacceptable customer service, One of the staff members where physically putting their hands on a young women and trying to stop her from using the toilet today, he then started using foul language towards her as she left. Do not eat here if you are young as you will be abused by staff.

Just perfect. Following my previous bad experience in another local restaurant we came for dinner here. It was just enjoyable. The hospitality given by the host and chef when we walked in was welcoming. Drinks and food was excellent. We ordered the two mussels dishes and they were perfectly cooked . The mussels were plumped full of taste and flavour. The spaghetti de Mare was perfectly cooked and very enjoyable. Bill was not expensive

Amazing food and staff service! The best authentic italian pasta I've ever had in the UK! I ordered the Pacherri Gamberi, it was a 10/10! I suggest for them to add tips in their contactless payment service, because they don't charge for service. They deserve tons of tips!

Eine sehr gemütliche Gaststätte mit sehr netter Bedienung. Das Essen (4verschiedene Gerichte probiert) war sehr schmackhaft . Sehr zu empfehlen, abends ist eine Tischbestellung zu empfehlen.

Always welcoming and friendly. The food is fresh and today had the mussels - one portion remaining and it was delicious. Followed by a vegetarian pizza - just the right amount of topping on a light base.

Dal Patino is my favourite Italian outside of Italy. The food is fresh, authentic and just amazing. Relatively small restaurant but extremely popular so book in advance. Staff are lovely and service is great. Brilliant night out.

We went there for the first time on Friday lunchtime and we took our 7 year old granddaughter with us. The first thing to say is that we will definitely be back! The restaurant was cozy and warm and completely authentic. The food was excellent. We had mussels to start which were perfectly cooked and pizza and pasta for main. My arrabbiata was perfect. The waiter was great and lovely to our granddaughter. Only one thing was that you can’t add a tip to a card payment and we didn’t have any cash with us. Never mind - we’ll just have to go back soon and take cash with us next time!

Lovely little restaurant that we should have visited sooner rather than travelling into Edinburgh by default. The food was excellent and we hope to have a return visit soon.

On 26/11/2022 my husband and I had our first meal at Dal Patino.Staff were great,atmosphere was superb and the food was absolutely delicious.Price for meal and drink was not dear at all Our first meal there and definitely not our last.

Lovely authentic Italian restaurant with wonderfully friendly staff

Food was fabulous but unfortunately not enough staff to cover the tables. The starters came quite quickly but we waited just under two hours for our main courses. This would have been fine however other tables who had came in well after us had their starters and mains well before us. We had to ask for another drink as that wasn't forthcoming. Again, the food was fabulous.

Wonderful food, service, ambience. But good luck in trying to call to book a table, the phone rarely gets answered. The website doesn't have a book online option. I tried for 3 days to have my call answered to book a table, ended up turning up on a quiet lunchtime in the hope there would be a table available.

Love this place. Went there early evening with a friend to have a pizza and really enjoyed it. Don't often go to restaurants, but will certainly go back to this one. Excellent value for money and service. Great ambiance.
