Caprice Restaurant in East Lothian

Poor experience with very rude staff member. Whilst ordering a takeaway, the person taking the order was probably the most abrupt and rude individual I’ve ever had the displeasure to meet. Shame because the food was good , and the area very clean. Will not visit again. Am in the area for extended work so probably would have visited several times a week. Will take my custom elsewhere.

Thoroughly enjoyed my night at The Caprice with my family. We were celebrating my daughters birthday. 5adults and 1 child had a lovely selection of starters and main courses which we all enjoyed. 3 Year old grandson was delighted with his fish shaped pizza. Didn't have dessert as we brought a cake with us and were supplied with plates to serve it on. Will definitely be back.

Big family outing at the Caprice, all ages including toddlers. Food was excellent, upstairs restaurant looking great, Jade and all the team were superb and very patient with the kids. Highly recommend and will be back soon! Thank you x

really upset!!! the attitude of the two ladies serving tonight was a disgrace..... we walked out before even ordering .... owner is lovely however due to these two ladies (use this term loosely) i won't be back! sort ur attitude and manners and there's a particular one who requires some hygiene products ... cheers

Food was good .. most of us got pizza as usual when we go. We were a group of 19 ! We were served by Jade who done a great job the rest of the staff just stood at the bar ( upstairs ) and watched her. If it was not for her hard work it would have been a different story .

Wonderful visit last night for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. Delicious food and drinks, lovely atmosphere and brilliant service from Jade. She was lovely with my granddaughter who is almost 4, spent time chatting to her. Rebecca had a great time too

Such a warm cosy atmosphere with a great selection of yummy foods in their menu. My favourite is having half pizza, half pasta. Such a treat to go there and not too expensive either

Last time I visited the caprice they had made a mistake and booked me in a table of 2 when there was 3 of us. I didn't make a fuss even though my daughter was in the middle of an aisle and did get her seat knocked (I then swapped with her) Today, having a reservation for 5pm for 2, my daughter ended up home early so I tried to change the booking to add her on, thinking well they can do the same as last time. Somehow health and safety has came into play after it being ok last time and we now have no reservation. Different rules on different days. Disappointing and won't be back.

The best pizza you'll ever taste.

Pizzas were absolutely beautiful. Staff really friendly and place is spotless. Would highly recommend for all you pizza lovers.

My daughter refused to eat pizza, until yesterday she wanted to try the 'heart-shaped' pizza. She said that it was the best meal she's had in her life and she wants to go to Caprice every week forever! See you again soon.

Our waitress Jade is an absolute credit to the Caprice and made the whole experience excellent she was available throughout the evening. She went out her way to help settle an upset toddler and took the stress away of having a child acting out in public. As for the food every plate was completely cleared absolutely delicious! We will be back

One of the best garlic bread pizzas you’ll ever have ! They also have an option of half and half pizza and pasta which is great if you can’t make up your mind. Local and very reasonably priced restaurant.

Went with a family group ranging in age from 3 years to 87 years. The staff were friendly and the service was great. We all enjoyed the experience but it was the food that was best. I had a starter of garlic mushrooms which were very tasty but I also tasted the salt and pepper squid and am sorry I didn't order it. It was great. I followed this up with a meat feast pizza. Lovely thin crust on the pizza and the pizza itself was plenty large. It was a really good tasting pizza and was complimented well with a couple of glasses of Nero D'Avola. Glad we came here and looking forward to coming back.

Went here for dinner with my other half. Service was great and the food was amazing 🤩 we both got the half pasta half pizza. I had the ravioli and Colorado pizza and it was all stunning. We got tiramisu for dessert which was to die for. Great value for money too!!

Just about the only italian in or around Edinburgh i will go to as cant be beaten Woodfired pizzas; never had a bad meal and been going for years 😋

Very disappointing , food was tasteless and the lasagna was just sloppy , presentation was awful . I had been looking forward to the visit and was taking my sister there as a thank you actually felt embarrassed by the meal given to us . Sadly I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant

I was eagerly anticipating my visit to this establishment after receiving several recommendations. However, I must express my disappointment with both the food and service during my recent experience. Despite the bustling atmosphere of the shop, I believe this should not compromise the quality of the food served. Unfortunately, the pasta lacked moisture, and the pizzas, which we had anticipated enjoying warm, were served cold. This was further compounded by a considerable wait of 35 minutes for our pickup order. Additionally, there seemed to be a palpable tension among the staff, whose interactions were marked by discord rather than teamwork. Given the premium price of £75.00, the quality of the food did not meet the expectations set by such a cost. Regrettably, based on this experience, I find it difficult to recommend this restaurant. This was my first time patronizing this business, and I had hoped for a better introduction. It is with a heavy heart that I say I will not be returning.

Food not great, overpriced and overrated

Don’t go if you want a late dinner, they will make you feel so uncomfortable, they were banging cutlery and dishes. Laughing and continued to make as much noise as possible. Manager wasn’t helpful. Staff member with red hair needs re training she was so rude her attitude was appalling. Ruined our day/ night. Extremely rude waiting staff. We left our dinner due to the treatment we received.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Arrived at 915 and we could sense them that we were not welcome that late . Waiting staff were ready to clean up and go even tho it doesn’t close till 10.30. They made it quite clear by the noise they were creating they were not happy. We asked them to tone it down while we tried to eat our meal only to be met with more noise and laughter. Waiting staff especially one with red hair was extremely rude. Manager not very helpful. Meal was ruined and our day/ night out was ruined by this extremely bad experience at this restaurant. Staff need retraining on how to behave they were acting like badly behaved children. NOT GOOD. Do not go here for a late dinner you won’t be welcome

This isn’t the first time I’ve visited, but it’s the most disappointed I’ve been in the place. Food was as good as usual but we got put upstairs tonight and the waiting staff were, different! The red headed girl was lovely but her partner in crime is probably one of the most miserable people I have ever had serve me. She sighed every time she left a table, wouldn’t answer when you spoke to her, and was very rude. At the end of our meal, we have managed to collect 12 glasses on the table with not one taken away. Nearly ran out of room for our plates to go. “Youse wanting anything else” was my favourite question of the night. I’ll be back as long as we get a table downstairs.

Say the have a gf menu to find there is only a few things on the menu that is gf no pasta no pizza gf options for starter very similar to the mains and only dessert is ice-cream the food I had was nice but nothing different I could have got at any other restaurant I would have like to have had more choice of Italian food

Food very good, penne picanti extremely hot with chilli not enjoyed, pizza, lasagne and fish all excellent. The waitress was very friendly and busy, long time to wait for food, nearly an hour for starters 😞😞.

This is not my firts time eating here, the food is amazing and the staff is great. My family had pizza and I had the best chicken ever! My little one ordered a pizza from the kids menú and I was very surprised by the size of it, It was huge and deli. My chicken (chicken caprice) was the best I cant wait to go there and order it again. Soooo good! I recomend this place if you really want nice italian food. Everything is a 10/10.

We were there for my sister-in-law's birthday celebration. Everything was as good as it can be. We have been going there for some years with our family and friends.

Had not been for a couple of years but went as a family for my sons 13 th tonight .Food was lovely as mentioned before soup more vegetable than minestrone but still tasty. All of our meals were delicious and empty plates all round .The reason for 4 not 5 stars we just felt we waited a little too long for our starters (35 mins) and the lighting was so bright which made the restaurant lack atmosphere.

Really good food and great service. We had both takeaway and ate in on different nights. Mains good value, sides a bit pricey.

We had an early dinner here, we hadn't booked in advance but had over an hour before the next booking which was plenty time. I wanted lasagne but they didn't have any, so went with a chicken dish which was very good and generous portion. Husband had a pizza and thought the Italian sausage was a bit sparse. Reasonable value, if we visit the area again I would be happy to go back there.

Ordered meatballs, which were made of some kind of meat !! Poor at best and tasted frozen - pizza okay but ordered meat feast with same poor meatballs in it !! And they don't do a calzone !!

I love pizza, and this is by far the best pizza 🍕 always want the Caprice pizza and they do a very delish Carbonara.

I’m really thankful for the team fitting me in on a very busy night. It did mean that I had to go upstairs which is the noisy part of the restaurant but I was happy with that. I’d already been turned away from one place. I’ve not been used to company for a couple of weeks as I’d been hiking, so it was kinda fun to hear all the banter. The girls looked after me really well, and brought my food out before the group table so it meant only a short wait. Yay! The food was great, garlic bread and a Caprese pizza. 2 Prosecco’s. I was happy with the price. It really hit the spot and warmed me up. Thanks again guys!

Went as a party of 16. Pre ordered meals 2 days before. When meals came total chaos 5 meals came wrong and only pizzas. Pasta was tasteless. Ordered wine and at the end of the meal found out we were charged £69 for a bottle that should have been £25.later the waitress admitted she gave us the wrong wine. Was a regular but sadly won't be back harsh to say a supermarket pasta is on par with this we were given. Went on 16/09/2023

We had an early dinner here with great pizza. The staff are friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced.

Booking the meal for 4 people was easy enough as we did it in advance. Once the day came, we were guided upstairs at sat in the middle of the room. It was a rather small area there to dine and there were two birthday meals going on whilst we were there, which made the room very noisy, and echoy. Therefore, we couldn't hear when we tried to speak to each other. The food looked good but it was okay, not the best. The service was rather slow. We only stayed for starters and a main as we were all had a headache with how loud it was. If we were played downstairs we may of had a different experience but still wouldn't go back.

Great local place, really family friendly.. the child was very impressed with the quailty of colouring in Pencils. Had the house white and ravioli and it was well priced, super tasty

The glass of Sauvignon I ordered with my starter wasn’t chilled. Ordered a glass of the house white later with my main which tasted better and was chilled. My lasagne served in a ceramic dish tasted overly dry. Our side orders of chips were great but the mixed salad was small. Waitress forgot the vinegar and main course cutlery. Not the best experience we’d hoped for, having been recommended by a relative.

the last time I went to the Caprice was 20 years ago and it was empty lacked atmosphere and frankly i wasnt going to go back but NOW its fabulous the staff were amazing the owner there and working with his staff the food was great it was full of people . I enjoyed it, we are all going back next month . worth giing

If you want a migraine specify upstairs please...it was a rabble and ruined a good night... A real shame because the food was OK but could not get out quick enough skipping desserts.... won't be back.

I have both sat in and had a take away service from the caprice and have always had a great meal with generous portion sizes and a great selection of delicious choices. The price isn’t too expensive so rather than getting a take away, it’s nice to sit in as a treat. Good bus and parking options.

I had the Spaghetti Meatballs and my son had the "Fun Shape" pizza which came out as the Batman symbol. He was so excited to see it

Always viewed caprice as the best pasta/pizza takeaway restaurant in Musselburgh. But seems to have completely gone down hill . On 3 separate occasions, Pizzas burned, to much sauce not enough topping and very bland. Pasta had no sauce and little chicken would as well have been plain pasta garlic pizza was like a piece of charred cardboard. Very disappointed Would always have recommended caprice for there pizzas and pastas but now I’d recommend avoiding them all together

A party of 16 for a special family meal which was made all the more special by exceptional service from our waitress Jade. It felt like a private dining experience we were so well looked after from more ice to keep our drinks cool to taking a family photo and making sure we had everything we needed. The food was incredible and have never seen so many cleared plates with both courses. Jade is an absolute credit to the restaurant and made our family meal a little more special. Looking forward to our next visit.

Amabilidad, como un buen día en casa! Los platillos italianos extraordinariamente hechos. La pomodoro casera y llena de sabor, el aceite de oliva y balsámico de calidad superior, el pan excelente y la pizza de pasta delgada rústica con sabor casero... extraordinario. Las cerezas amarena con helado deliciosas y el expreso como debe ser. Por supuesto acompañamos todo con un Nero Di Tavola, delicioso pero con en todo momento con una atención cálida y agradable.

We arrived 30 minutes before our booking and we asked if we could have our table early - they were very quick to accommodate us - we all chose the pasta/pizza option - arrived very quickly and food was delicious- especially the pizzas which were cooked in a large pizza oven in the downstairs part of the restaurant- will definitely return if we are in the area again but we live over 3 hours away

The food disappointed me the last time I was in that restaurant.

Gluten free pasta option (penne), most sauces GF. No GF pizza (would be difficult with the wood fired oven), soup and a few starters available. Very small, seating available upstairs. Toilet is also upstairs. Not wheelchair accessible due to size/stairs. Overall, good experience, not too expensive, food is tasty, staff friendly. Booking pretty much essential, especially for larger parties.

Been going to the caprice for 40 years, now live abroad. Detoured by over 100 miles to return. New pizza oven, taste, smell and texture no longer unique. Was the best pizza restaurant I have ever been in but now just like all the rest. So very very disappointed, how could they destroy everything special about it.

Absolutely loved my experience and food, wasn’t disappointed as brings back fond memories of the Alongi family run restaurants, Has ran for many years now still good now as was then.

We used to be regulars here and having not been for over a year we were pleased to find it was just as good as ever. We both had minestrone soup and lovely warm bread to start, then half and half pizza/spaghetti Napoli for me and my husband had Penne bolognese. Great value at £10.95 for 2 courses. Staff very polite and efficient, we'll be back soon.

Was there for my father in laws 70th birthday. There was 7 of us and no complaints. Food was delicious and staff were very efficient, polite and friendly. Would recommend and return to this restaurant.

The restaurant was busier than I expected for an early booking in a Sunday. It was good as it gave the restaurant a bit of an atmosphere. I wanted a seafood spaghetti which unfortunately was not on the menu however the waitress checked with the chef and he offered to adapt one of the items so that I got what I wanted! It was very tasty.
