I expect the ice cream to be expensive in a place like this and the cafe had run out of many flavours of ice cream and Magnums. This we can put up with - but we were served by a sullen youth/boy in a grey hoody (why does he need to have his hood up on one of the hottest days of the year whilst serving customers, so that we could not understand his mumbling reply to a friendly question?) and who did not even know the words Please and Thankyou. Our rambling club will not be returning to Pollys

Food and service were pleasant enough, but this is not a two rosette restaurant. The AA person must have been on something when they rated this restaurant. The restaurant is basically a corridor for members of staff and the public, they just wander through it's laughable, at one point the manager walked through with an iron and an ironing board under his arm!

This place used to be out of this world! It was a fantastic fine dining restaurant where people used to come miles for fantastic food and fantastic wine - Michelin star quality. Now, the place is ran by a temporary landlord and it’s all very sad… Poor service, awful food and the place is just being run into the ground. We had to have pie and chips as there was very little left…I wouldn’t feed it to my dog, it was that bad. And the locals want others to invest in this place…good luck!

We went here for lunch after a walk to Thor's Cave. We had no idea what to expect but half expected the usual standard pub fayre that has come from a wholesaler. How wrong we were! We had lasagne and chips. My friend had the veggie version. And it was homemade and probably the best lasagne we have ever eaten. Absolutely gorgeous and so much attention to detail with the salad. Not just a token bit of iceberg with tasteless tomato. Far from it. Gorgeous flavours. My friend had a homemade pudding afterwards which again was delicious. I had coffee which was served in a pretty glass cup which also typifies what this pub got right - as well as the beautiful home made meal - care had been taken with everything including how it was presented. It was all cared for and valued and that's rare these days. The cosy fire and polite, gentle service was also a joy. We stumbled on a gem and we will be back! Thank you to all the staff involved.

Visited here yesterday with friends. My friend ordered a pint of bass, which was the last one in the barrel. He took one sip and returned it to the bar as it was flat and he asked for a replacement Guinness. You might think that she’d have just replaced it like for like, or maybe at a push, expect him to pay the difference. Nope, he was asked to pay the full amount. So, £3.70 for a flat pint of bass that he returned and £4.80 for a pint of Guinness! We left after one drink and chose another pub nearby which had much better service. In addition to the poor service, the interior is tired and it’s not somewhere we’d go to again

Looks lovely from the outside. Went for afternoon tea using a £35 buy a gift voucher. The lady sat us at a small table right in the corner. I couldnt move very uncomfortable. God knows where she was going to put the afternoon tea. We asked to be moved, was told they had bookings but she moved us anyway. We was sat in the conservatory all doors and windows shut. At this point there was only 2 other couples in and no one else arrived. Afternoon tea came, looked OK, cakes looked nice. The cream wasnt clotted cream so melted on the scone and a small biscuit, i havnt a clue what it was but had a tinge to it. There was salmon with cream cheese and cucumber which we don't like, ham which was OK and something that resembled mixed egg with a bright yellow yolk- it was sweaty cheese mixed with pickle which was not nice and a floppy garnish of salad. Now while we are trying to eat some of it we was continuously swatting flies away. That was it we decided to leave. You only had a choice of fruit teas or earl grey which is not nice and had to pay extra for coffee. The afternoon teas I've had in the past come with a small dish of pickle on the side so you can choose to have it, pork pie a few crisps. This for £35 was well below standard. It was disgusting. The lady who bought out the food knew because she kept looking at what we had left. We ordered a drink on the way in so went to pay for it on the way out. She asked if everything was OK I replied disappointing. She looked shocked. I mentioned the food and the fact we where getting stressed due to the flies and she replied oh that's nature 😮. It's the only place I've been where you share your food with the flies. This was a mothers day treat that was totally ruined. Never in a hundred years would I go back here. I have complained through buy a gift too as the food here was well below what should have been served. Since getting in we've both had a dickie tummy.
