What a lovely hotal, clean and tidy. Very friendly staff, easy to find. Great views, amazing overall experience. Comfortable bed, pillows not great but will do. Superior room was a nice size, nice bathroom. Breakfast was lovely, mini fry up. Tea etc

Had an overnight stay at Izaak Walton Hotel. Room was as described and very clean. The location is beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful with our bike storage. Hope to come back and visit again.

This is a lovely rambling 'typical' 'traditional' British mid-tier hotel. It's location and surroundings are truly stunning in every respect and warrant more than 5 stars. The hotel grounds and gardens are beautifully maintained and are located adjacent to stunning countryside. The location is idyllic and very far from the madding crowd. As a break from the frenetic modern world it's a fabulous destination and it is the location that really drives the rating I've given of 4 stars overall. In terms of staff and service from the staff it's 5 stars all the way...they are all lovely and helpful and really do make every effort to look after their guests. However, there are some niggles. The place overall is a little tired in places with respect to fit and finish...it's not awful by any means but, as with many establishments in recent years, brutal trading conditions have meant that ongoing refurbishment has been challenging to maintain and I fully appreciate how difficult that is for anyone running a hotel in the UK in 2024 so I would not be overly critical in this respect. What I do have concerns about is that, having had several full meals at the hotel, I do have to say that the standard is not great. The quality and freshness of ingredients is first class but the execution is not so great for the main courses. Starters and desserts are generally excellent but main courses are lacking in a premium delivery (for the price paid). The recent Sunday roast I had there was not up to par with the overall expected standard. Presentation on the plate was lovely but the actual food itself was not well cooked or executed. As a footnote, the prices at the bar are very expensive for drinks. I understand that it costs a lot to maintain staffing etc in a rural location. However, £11 for a glass of wine seemed excessive for a 3 star country hotel. In summary, it's an amazing physical location and pleasant space to be but more attention to the restaurant and, perhaps, a review of pricing on drinks might be in order.

During my recent trip to Ashbourne, Derbyshire, I had the pleasure of staying at The Izaak Walton Hotel and was extremely impressed by everything this hotel has to offer. From the very beginning, I was charmed by the warm and professional welcome. The reception staff were exceptionally polite and attentive, ensuring a quick and seamless check-in. I immediately felt that I was in the right place. My room was a true gem—spacious and bright. The bed was incredibly comfortable and provided an excellent night's sleep after busy days of sightseeing. The bathroom was clean and well-equipped with everything necessary, including high-quality toiletries. The hotel's restaurant is truly exceptional. Breakfast was rich and varied, including fresh fruits and vegetables as well as delicious hot dishes. Dinner was even more impressive—each dish was carefully prepared and beautifully presented, with unforgettable flavors. Moreover, the hotel is conveniently located, making it easy and pleasant to explore the local attractions. The staff provided us with valuable information about interesting places and events in the area, making our stay even more enjoyable and memorable. One of the things that impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the staff's dedication to making our stay as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend The Izaak Walton Hotel to anyone seeking perfection in service and comfort. This is a place where you can truly feel special. I can't wait to return during my next visit to Derbyshire.

There's the pub.....and then There's the hotel and restaurant. The latter are wonderful with excellent food.

Me and my family went to visit the stepping stones and came here for a sandwich to get away from the terrible rain! Gent behind bar gave me a towel to dry my daughter and gave us amazing service throughout our visit. Only slight fault of this particular place is it needs more staff, seems to be just one Gent behind the bar

This is a very very nice place to stay. Good location, good facility and great food and beverage. The gentleman who works the bar, restaurant and breakfast restaurant is a total professional. I find myself saying this time and time again, it's the people who make the difference.

This place is a well organised, classical, beautiful gem hidden away amongst Ilam Dovedale. If you love Nature & Hiking, this is the place you need to be. It's situated in a perfect location between many hiking routes. 2 nights wasn't long enough and we can't wait to stay with them again. Very polite staff, well organised Hotel & very tidy! The Housekeepers were amazing! They tended to the rooms with care whilst we were out hiking. Very clean and topped up everything perfectly. They even placed my friends fluffy toy back onto the bed after they made it up which was a lovely touch. Great reception staff!! Lovely cooked, clean fresh food by the chef! Thanks again Isaak Walton.. missing you already!

The Isaac Walton hotel is in a beautiful location and the staff were friendly and the food was ok at best..… However our mattress in our room was very hard and very uncomfortable and me and my partner had zero sleep and got up the following morning with our bodies aching which ruined our time at the hotel as we were very tired and in pain the next day. We are still waiting for the general manager to contact us to discuss the matter and that was nearly 1 week ago….. Update after speaking to the manager he has refused to refund any money and offered no resolution for the terrible nights stay we had.

My husband booked a night away at the Izaak Walton hotel For a birthday treat, we arrived 23/02/24 and were welcomed by a lovely lady on the reception, she gave us all the information we needed for our stay, we stayed in room 14 which was the most beautiful room with amazing views of Thorpe cloud and the surrounding countryside, we went down to the bar and the lovely staff lit the fire and we sat and had a few drinks, we had dinner at the hotel which was lovely. The staff were very friendly and made us very welcome, breakfast was nice and there was a choice of cereal, all in all we enjoyed our stay and we would definitely go back . Thank you ☺️

We had an lovely overnight stay, amazing location just a short walk from the stepping stones and a great base to explore. Our room over looked the countryside, was very clean, tidy and spacious. The call out point here was the food, we dined in the hotel restaurant, having 3 courses every single dish was amazing very high quality, I would highly recommend the food but also the staff were kind, courteous and welcoming.
