The Butchers Arms in Staffordshire Moorlands

Unfortunately the pub no longer serves food so we had a swift pint and left. Such a shame the home made steak & ale pie was awesome.

Nothing on any of its pages or Facebook to state nor doing food. Quite disappointing as thats exactly what we came for. The bar lady was nice and friendly and apologetic about the situation. The atmosphere of the pub itself it lovely. Beautiful building and decoration. Just wish they'd be honest online as to not disappoint more people!

Hosted a wake on 6th September, polite staff reasonably priced buffet with good selection would recommend.

Stopped here for a pub lunch with the family on the way back from Alton Towers, friendly staff, nice simple menu and food was fantastic.

Lovely little waitress which seemed to be running around and following order's from bar staff, felt sorry for her as she only had a pair of hands and was being told to do god knows how many things all at the same time, the starters came 1hr after we ordered, considering it was a meal for 2 we found this to long for a starter,this only came once we asked how much longer it was going to be. The main meal was ok however the Peppercorn Sauce had not seen a single Peppercorn!! When we asked what sauce it was we were told Peppercorn sauce, when we complained stating it was not the woman from behind the bar seemed to be taken aback at our comment. Next table to us was a party of 10, lovely party, they arrived at 7.30 and went up.to order food at 7.50, again they were told by 2 bar staff ladies that they could.not take the other due to.the kitchen closing at 8pm.yet on your website it does stipulate 8.30. 10people got up and left the place. If this was my business they would have been accommodated not refused to be served. The whole experience unfortunately has put us off for a return visit which is a shame. Word of advice, get your staff on a customer service course, it may just save you some customer's.

Brilliant pub. I've been driving past this for years & always wanted to go in, so today we did! We only had a drink but it's a lovely place - really friendly staff! We did have a peek at the menu and it looks fab so we'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for fast service, this is not the place to go. Despite only having four tables occupied (including ours), it took an hour for our food to arrive, and even then, our order was incorrect. We had to correct a mistake when the food first came out but the mistake was never corrected. When the waitress finally came to check on us, we had already finished our meals. The manager was present the entire time but didn't seem to help. She removed the drinks (4 jugs of juice) from our bill due to the wait on our food but failed to make any eye contact with us at all nor apologise. The best employee there was a new waitress on her first shift (who was receiving no guidance may I add). The food was edible but nothing special and extremely overpriced. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I wouldn't recommend spending your money here.

Nice to come back to this pub. Had a good atmosphere and the new land lady was doing a great job. Look forward to spending the summer drinking here

Came for pub quiz on Tuesday evening, 8.30pm start. Great fun 👍😀 Good atmosphere and lovely historic building, detailing Joule's facts.

Visited for drinks but noticed that the food service wasn't great. A table had 3 of their meals delivered and the other person didn't get theirs for 15 minutes with no apology given. Two guys on another table waited 20 minutes before being told that what they had ordered wasn't available. Don't think I'll be going for food any time soon

Well worth a visit. Great village pub. Highly recommended.

Myself and my partner visited The Butchers Arms last weekend. We had spotted the pub on our way back from Alton Towers. We both had The Baconator burger meal. It was hands down the nicest burger I had ever had. The chunky chips were amazing. The service was quick and friendly. We will definitely be going back again to try another one of the burgers on the menu 😋

Nice food and nice pub with a good atmosphere. And dogs are allowed there as well.

Went there for a thai food night, food was awful sorry to say this. Pub was lovely with friendly bar staff. Thanks for your response but I have to totally disagree.....YOU ALLOWED YOUR PREMISES TO BE UTILISED BY AN EXTERNAL ORGANISATION. YOU TOOK THE MONEY AT THE END OF THE NIGHT.....How you possibly perceive its nothing to do with the pub leaves me in total bewilderment. The responsibility simply in law lies with the person who you give your money to in this case The Butchers Arms...Totally surprised this isn't understood by the person responsible for such a lovely looking pub.

For how nice the pub and location is I was slightly disappointed with the food and drink v cost. Downside: - The staropramen tasted tangy so I had it changed to cider. - The burger had mac and cheese and pulled pork but the buns weren't toasted so I had to finish half of it with a knife and fork as it fell apart. - Bottom of bun was cold and damp so not sure if plate was cold or bap was defrosted - Fries were OK but needed to use fingers as fork snapped them in half Upside: - lovely staff - sat in front of the log burner was great - Inside is traditionally brilliant - Nice coleslaw - Dog friendly Overall I just felt it wouldn't have taken much to make the food banging instead of just above average, which makes it way more expensive for similar that you would get in a standard food chain pub

This is one of the best local pubs in the area. The vibe is always buzzing and the drinks on offer are fantastic. This is our new local

Best around. Super nice service and staff. Regular visitor now. Good ales, brilliant food.. would recommend every time A year down the line and I still come here. Bar staff great, Lexi needs to wear less or see through items, but she's great. Dave hates mice.

Stopped here unplanned on the way back from Alton Towers on a very rainy day. Lovely pub. Great menu for all the family and the chicken ham and leek pie was epic. Only issue I had is only one of the fires was lit!

Great selection of pub food. Lady behind the bar was lovely and brought our dog a bowl of water without even having to ask. It was a bit chilly at 8pm on a Saturday night, so the log fire being on would have kept us in there longer.

Amazing staff and lovely atmosphere!!

Had a lovely lunch here yesterday. We had a very warm welcome. Camembert and the chutney was amazing. Taste hot dog and followed up with yummy bread and butter pudding. Really happy we found this pub.

Very nice Joules pub, so has a nice pint of green monkey on. Have tried the food here and its very good, look out of the specials on the boards too. Went again on last bank holiday weekend, it has changed hands now, but the food is still excellent and had a brilliant pint

To say the Sunday lunch was good would be an understatement. Plenty of meat, vegetables cooked the way I love them, oceans of gravy. The only issue was the impossible to open condiment sachets, but the very friendly staff sorted that out for me. Apple and blackberry crumble lovely. Will be coming back soon

Absolutely amazing food and good portion sizes

We were cold, the fire wasn't in...or if it was we couldn't tell, it was a cold snowy day when we went. Food was excellent. Had to stand at the bar a while to be served as no one behind the bar. Just little points, if it had been warm in the pub with the fire in..five stars would have been no problem. I will go again as food was top notch, but I will have to take me gloves or leave it till summer. 🤣

We booked The Butchers Arm for a wake after my mum’s funeral with very short notice. Lyndsey was excellent and very accommodating. The quality and range of food provided proved to be a real hit with everyone- served exactly when we wanted it, we were all more than satisfied! Great service- would highly recommend! Thank you.

A nice pub you can get food and drinks and it has wheel chair access but a bit pricey there

After driving round to find a pub that does food (it was the 7th pub) I had the hunters chicken, my partner had the steak and ale pie, both meals were spot on the staff were really helpful and very friendly, the pub was very nice, we both can't wait to go back to try something different 😀

I recently visited for drinks and buffet after a family funeral. The pub and staff are welcoming and polite. The buffet provided was excellent with a great chouce

A Joules pub that serves traditional pub food in a pleasant atmosphere. We went for lunch, there was a good fire going and everything was clean and organised. The staff were very friendly and greeted us with a smile. The pub has several offers on during the week so you don't have to break the bank. Forsbrook isn't too far from Foxfield Railway so it's a good place to sit and reminisce about your day.

Called in for lunch as we where in the local area. Warm welcome was given, good food, pie was really good, service was great and good value. Nice traditional pub, we will be back next time we are in the area.

The meal was amazing. Had the pulled pork in half a tiger loaf. Lovley.

They "lost" our food order, had to wait over an hour and half for food and even then it wasn't worth the wait.

Waited over an hour for food to be served and other customers who arrived before us got served first. When food came out it was nice but some items were cold. Portion size was average. I expected better to be honest.

What a lovely pub! Husband and I popped in for lunch on our way back home to the Wirral after a weeks holiday in Ashbourne. Both had a lovely meal and a pot of tea....very good prices! Young lady serving was lovely and even quickly offered my assistance dog a bowl of water. Thank you for a lovely visit.

Went for curry night which is a curry and a pint for £11. It states nowhere what is or is not on the offer. Girlfriend ordered a cider and staff didn’t warn it wasn’t on the offer until it arrived. They stated it was only on joules pints so I ordered a joules lager and staff said no it’s only on the joules ales. No warning was given, staff were rude and food wasn’t great. Go elsewhere.

Very tasty food, large portions, attentive staff. Thoroughly recommended. Homity pie not on main menu but very very tasty.

Ordered chicken skewers for staters expecting 2/3 skewers. 1 came on a plate and when asked why it says skewers when it should say skewer I was told it's a typo error. 🤷🏼‍♂️won't be goin back there again

Stopped off here after a trip to Alton Towers....and we discovered a Real gem of a proper traditional pub. Excellent food, cooked by a first class Chef.....Best steak I've had in a long time ...Steak was well done has requested.. succulent and tasty. Never tried Black pudding with Steak before but it will now be a regular request... Everything was cooked to perfection. 😎👍 The home made Steak and Ale pie was very well cooked, lovely, meaty, juicy Steak and Ale filling..pastry was light and melted in your mouth.... The home made black pepper gravy was thick and tasty...the home made onions rings were excepional. The side dish of Scampi was also exceptional, no grease, lightly battered and the scampi inside was well cooked and hot. 😎👍 The deserts were traditional deserts, apple crumble with custard and Lemon roulade but both were exceptionally very tasty. Hospitality, Customer Service and atmosphere was second to none. Lovely surroundings with a warm log fire. Really enjoyable meal and experience. Highly recommended. Thank you.😎👍

Ordered a fillet steak, it came at first the presentation of the food wasn’t great came with chips a large mushroom and tomatoes no choice of what goes on the plate, I don’t like either the mushrooms and tomatoes so all I could have was the steak and chips. The steak was fatty and very gristly it was only a little warm, the chips were just standard made chips. Personally I would not come here again for a fillet steak, my ratings of this are awful. I left more than half the steak.

Having grown up in the area it has been many years since visiting the butchers Arms. I have to say I was really pleased and pleasantly surprised following my visit. There has been a lot of work to bring the pub up to a high standard. The pub is owned by joules brewery now and a wide range of quality real ales are sold. Food is also sold although I did not eat there. Clean and tidy environment with friendly staff.

Staff excellent, and knowledgeable. Called for a drink, made very welcome.

Glass was filthy !! Food was vile steak was full of grizzle chips undercooked and salad was brown … staff were nice tho . Gutted as reviews were good online by our experience was shocking 😵
