Had a lovely lunch here for a special birthday. Our server Charlotte was really friendly and made sure everything was ok for us. The food was outstanding, best garlic mushrooms I’ve had anywhere in a long time, and the chicken supreme was divine. We forgot to order a side so asked just as our mains were delivered and the broccoli with chilli, garlic and almonds was there really quickly. We decided on a floater coffee instead of desserts as we were full, but then a perfect portion of chocolate brownie appeared for me and my sister to share, which was a lovely surprise arranged by Joanne - thank you. Great service and food, look forward to visiting again soon

I had a lovely meal. Our table was available as soon as we arrived at the restaurant. Our server who I believed was called Joanne was amazing. She was polite, attentive and involved. Would dine again.

Quite a disappointing visit to Ego. Started well with the calamari but ordered a rump steak cooked medium and it was extremely over cooked and dry. With the service being quite slow too I didn’t send it back, as really didn’t feel like having to wait and eat separately. Have had much better food in the past but my first visit in a year or two and not rushing to go back.

Went for dinner on Sunday evening, service was great, attentive with little to no wait. Surroundings very nice and well decorated. Plenty of parking and accessible. Food was good and nicely presented Morrocan lamb was tasty. However couscous was very cold (assumed was supposed to be like this but would prefer warm at least) portion sizes small especially starters ( scallops and prawns fit in a small shell) and prices quite high. By 9pm we were pretty much alone in the restaurant. Overall not value for money in my opinion.

We arrived on time and were seated promptly. Drinks were taken after about 10 minutes, but we had to flag someone down at the 25-minute mark just to place our food order. After 40 minutes of waiting, I asked how much longer and was told “another 10 minutes” due to large parties in. Twenty minutes later, still no food – I asked again and spoke to the manager, who couldn’t have been less interested. When the food finally arrived – an hour after ordering – it was underwhelming. My lemon chicken lacked any lemon flavour, and the lamb was served in a cold sauce. When I asked if that was intentional, I was told yes – which seemed odd, as the meat itself was hot. Several dishes arrived lukewarm or cold, and overall the quality didn’t justify the wait. The waiting staff seemed disinterested, and the manager was dismissive. A simple explanation or some expectation-setting about delays would’ve gone a long way, but instead we were left frustrated and disappointed. We won’t be going back

A rare jewel in this part of the country, in fact, for anywhere, really! Close to the Caldon Canal at Stockton Brook Locks (200mtrs) this pub is more restaurant / cocktail bar with very high standards of fittings, service and cuisine. Added to this, is the bargain offering of a 2 course meal for two people for a total of £30!! Drink prices were very reasonable (pub prices) but the range of cocktails, wines and beers was extensive - and the staff knew all about their cocktail, wine and menu items. A wonderful evening and highly recommended.

We attended Ego on 04/05/25 as part of a large twenty people 60th birthday celebration meal, and I have to say that the whole event was deeply tainted by extremely slow service. We we're there three and half hours, only to receive a few starters and our mains,...."very" slowly..:(( We were later told that this was due to the place being short staffed. Although the service was incredibly slow, the food seemed fairly good overall, although personally my carbonara was more on the tasteless side than anything else. The place itself on the night was buzzing with good energy, plenty of other people, a real genuine nice 'vibe' about the place, which was absolutely ruined by the uber slow service, even removing our plates after our mains seemed to take an age. Thus we will not be calling again, as we'd also heard of many other people that night not even receiving there food. We'd travelled all the way down from North Wales to attend this 60th birthday do, and we only now wish that it could have been so much better than it was, as instead of just happy memories, all we are now left with is disappointment sadness & frustration for all whom were left so disappointed. To cap it all off,...we 'all cancelled' our desserts, as we were told that they had no idea when they would arrive..:(( It really does take something to upset & disappoint twenty people in one go, but that night Ego at The Hollybush certainly managed it with ease. My GF also said that there was no hint of an apology as well,....just to compound things even more. We feel so sorry for Pam who's birthday of note was tainted in such a way/manner..:((

Meal out for my birthday treat, table booked for 7 pm. Arrived at 6:50 spoke to a waitress to let them know we had a table booked, left standing at the desk for 15 to 20 mins. Shown to the table waited another 15 mins before the order was taken. We order drinks at the same time, received the drink quickly but then left for an hour. Enquired as to where the food was. The waitress (Ronni) explained several staff had phoned in sick. She went to see where the starts were and said they would be only a few minutes. ain meals cane separately. Again Ronni was very apologetic. Eventually we did get our food which was excellent. This situation did mar what should have been a special treat for my birthday. However the food was excellent and the waitress was a delight and the only reason why we didn't walk out.

Visited Ego with family for a 60th Birthday we booked our food in advance weeks ago for 20 people food was ok nothing special. wait time for the food was very very slow and our deserts never came after our dinner and we waited that long some of the party went home as they got sick of waiting. Three an half hours we spent there. we all canceled our deserts .and then the manager asked a young girl to come and take our payments no apologise or sorry for the wait or even asked if i food was ok ?.then the Birthday cake was brought out no knife no plates ..very poor service and they did not have the curtesy to even apologise.and when we did complain the manager said they where short staffed very disappointed.

We booked meals weeks in advance, but we had to cancel our desserts as it took 3.5 hours for our starters and mains to be served. It would be a nice place, but the service is genuinely the worst I have ever known. Never again!

Never been to the ego before so thought we would try it. Atmosphere was nice, however service was not the best, drinks were very slow to be offered, asked twice for table water, Food was ok starters were lovely, came out quick, pizza for main were underwhelming for the price, quite oily too. Hallumi fries were tasty though. Flavoured drinks were nice and have a good variety.

We have been to Ego a few times over the years and it's always been really good, service with a smile and good food. We booked a meal for our wedding anniversary at the weekend and really weren't impressed. We arrived 15 minute early, so we were asked to wait at the bar and come back in 10 minutes. Whilst at the bar I ordered a mojito and my husband a beer. The mojito tasted like lime cordial. We went back to the front desk after 10 minutes, and had to wait a further 10 minutes before anybody attended us. We were eventually seated 20 minutes after our booked time slot. Our food order was taken, starters took 40 minutes to get to our table (the restaurant wasn't that busy and had lots of tables free). We then waited a further 20 minutes for our mains, only to be disappointed with the quality and taste. My hanging skewers were burnt and the meat was dry, and my husbands paella was tasteless. We decided to opt out of dessert due to feeling dissatisfied with our starters and main courses. This evening was meant to be a romantic meal of good food and atmosphere as is usually the case.

Food was delicious. Holly, our waitress, was super friendly and allowed us to bring a birthday cake in. Overall, a great experience.

Don't waste your time or money. Extremely slow service & food nothing special and over priced. Cocktails shocking. Complaint sent the same day to which I've had a response off Chloe with multiple excuses and no empathy/ solution. Wouldn't recommend unless you want to waste hours of your birthday there like I did.

Prompt service, didn't have to wait long. It was quite busy for a Tuesday night. Food came quickly and was delicious. Portions were generous. The staff was attentive, the restaurant/ pub was clean.

Food was nice, always plenty of deals on so look out for those, always worth looking for.

This place is close to perfection, yet the wait time and service is the only factor letting this place down. Having to Wait 30 minutes just for service and then another 45 for food is horrific for a place as well maintained and staffed as this one. More staff isn't needed. Better staff is needed.

I recently had afternoon tea at ego for mother's day and it was quite disappointing. The service was slow, we had booked the. table for 3:15 till 4:15 only to be left till 3:50 with no food or drinks! We were then told when we finally got our first cup of tea that we only had half a hour left for the table. The sandwiches were dry and lacked flavour. The staff seemed uninterested in providing us help as we were constantly chasing them up for food and drinks. Overall disappointing.

Service very good food not so .... had Sunday lunch..... veg very hard .... starter poor.... Yorkshire pudding so big took half the plate ..... husband had lamb very chewy .... dessert good 👍

I've been here a couple of times - for a family meal after I got married and also for my birthday recently. It's been excellent both times. The food is fresh and delicious. There is loads of choice on the menu. Plenty of veggie options for me to choose from. I recommend the daytime deals if you can get there before early evening - they're great value. The alcoholic drinks are special and well made. Plenty of free parking. Baby friendly.

Go here quite regularly with my mum for lunch. Usually on a casual basis we sit outside on a nice day and have a light lunch. Always enjoy it. This time we came just before Xmas and dined inside. Had a lovely 2 course meal and received exceptional service from Holly, our waitress. She was very accommodating, and friendly. We had such a lovely experience and it really brought a nice start to the Festive season.
