Windmill in Staffordshire Moorlands

Popped in for a bit of lunch on the way home from shopping. Ordered our food and waited what seemed like for ever for it to come. When it did come I was not impressed and it was a bit on the cold side. Asked where the bread was that goes with the risotto and the person serving our food didn't know it came with bread and had to go off and cook some. The overall experience was very disappointing and will not be dinning at the windmill again.

We go here quite frequently and always enjoy our meal ,but today we had fish and chips it was over cooked and and think it could have been from yesterday, subsequently we have both had to use the toilet urgently, will be a while before we go again

Didn't eat but had hot and cold drinks. Went for the open mic to play. Lovely evening.

We have visited the pub many times and we are very happy with the quality of the food and the staff. I would suggest to call them to reserve a table.

A good old family pub, nice food, nice staff

Nice, clean, friendly pub. Booked a table, luckily, as it was very busy. Food came hot, well presented and with a smile. Decent menu, plenty of choice. Always on my shortlist of places to eat out.

Great local. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Never had a bad experience. It can get busy Fri/Sat, which is good. But it doesn’t help when the darts players take up half the pub all night, that’s the only negative.

We went for a Christmas Party No Atmosphere No Crackers On the Table Nothing Soup was lovely I had Salmon never ever had it with Roast Potatoes they were dry Boiled Potatoes would have been perfect The Salmon was dry and only a tiny drop of Hollandaise sauce We then waited over 40 minutes for our sweet The ice cream was melted and the cheesecake was rock hard The other meals were not good either There were complaints to the staff X

Had the Katsu curry. It tasted ok. Unfortunately it didn't agree with me. Ended up on the toilet

The wake you did for our dear daddy was fabulous, the buffet was simply delicious, the attention to detail was just perfect we couldn’t have wished for anything more. A lot of our friends and family from out the area all commented on the food, the lovely atmosphere and warmth of the Windmill, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making everything so special for our wonderful husband/daddy who meant the world to us love Janet, Jo, Aly & Sophie xxxx

Very slow service. Wrong drink arrived and although food was tasty, it was missing an item mentioned on the menu (feta in the salad), was also expecting seasoned fries as stated on the menu but oven chips were provided. Cosy pub with a pleasant atmosphere and price not bad so can’t complain, but not to the standard I was expecting.

This is the first time I've been in for a couple of years and it's had a refurb and looks unreal! It looks stunning inside and a real cosy pub! The staff were so friendly and service was extremely fast! It was so busy for a Wednesday night and it's nice to see and the kind of atmosphere you want when you nip to the pub for a couple. 100% will be returning soon, really impressed! 👏🏻

Coming from essex for a stay over at alton towers, we decided to venture out for food, to find this absolute hidden Gem.... THE WINDMILL, the atmosphere was so chilled, the food was fantastic I actually got my medium rare stake, down in essex they always get it wrong 😂, to top it of awesome service by the staff, especially MEG she was awesome a real credit to the venue... Thanks, we shall definitely be back 100%..

Came to the windmill and ordered food. We were not given a courtesy check and at the end of the meal when the plates were cleared, still, we were not asked how the meal was at all. Ordered the gammon which came with an egg, the egg was hard and I wanted them to change it to a runny one but as there was no courtesy check I couldn’t ask this. The gammon was white rather than pink and had a funny taste so I only ate the end and left the whole gammon steak, again as there was no courtesy check and no one asked how the meal was at the end, I was unable to explain this to anyone. Overall I am disappointed with this experience and feel as though it was a waste of money. There was no interest from the staff as to if the meals were enjoyed.

Been here several times including a family function and every time it's been great. Friendly staff, brilliant service and food really can't fault it. Definitely will visit again and would recommend it to anyone.

8 months passed since my initial review and requires and update. Menu has taken a nose dive, quite limited and portion sizes reduced. Family and friends had a range of dishes and were disappointed. Not in a rush to eat here again

We visited The Windmill on 26th April 2024 for lunch. My parents and I had such a lovely time and the food was absolutely yummy! Big compliments to the chef👍🏼; the soup of the day (Winter green veg soup with the foccicia bread) was delicious, the fish and chips was cooked to perfection and the fruit crumble was divine! 😋 Very affordable prices, friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere; we will definitely be returning for lunch at The Windmill.😍 Highly recommended. 🤩

Went to the Windmill for something to eat and tried the new specials. We had the mussels linguine and the marmalade glazed pork steak. Both were really nice and would recommend. Service and everything else was excellent as always.

Make you very welcome keep there real ale excellent being a X cellar man when barrels where wooden and 36 gallons.

Last year, my family used The Windmill as the venue for my mum's wake (as she used to work there!). Zoe and Dot provided all the food requests that we asked for, plus many things more. The whole family and everyone who attended commented on the service, professionalism, and atmosphere on the day. Recently, due to a last-minute change to my dad's Christmas plans, I called on Zoe at the 11th hour to help him out with providing a meal. She did so without hesitation and with kindness, showing a true Christmas spirit. I highly recommend this establishment for a meal or drink in general. It is always so clean and the service is friendly. The decor is very appealing too. Well done, and thanks again!

Regular visitor to the Windmill. Staff always friendly, food is great and the Open mic night is really good. Recommend you book a table. They are always busy, but don't let that put you off. Service and food always 100%.

Went here for a family meal, good place keeps several traditional beers - good! Don't be tempted by the ' special ' steak which 3 of us had and were just gristle - not good.

Well worth a visit. The food is really good with a good choice. Prices are good too.

The food was almost cold.. fish, not much taste, mashed potatoes were far too stiff. Not enough moisture in them, tasted ok . Peas were nice but all the food came almost cold.

Food very average. Fish and chips with scampi. Made pieces of scampi to required amount with chicken nuggets. Didnt fool anyone!!!

Comfortable surroundings, sat a large group of 14 no issues. Staff are lovely and pleasant food was fantastic , well cooked and plenty on your plate. Second visit and will be a regular place for family.

Very popular venue. The food is good. Had the Fillet of beef burger, which went down a treat. The good lady had the BBQ burger and throughly enjoyed it. Downside was, she was that full, she didn't want a pudding which meant I couldn't have one either. The service as always spot on. We will be coming back soon

A traditional looking pub very much more for older families not to my personal taste found the restaurant tables too close to each other for my comfort and it was uncomfortably warm in the pub. It's not a negative just a personal view as my family loved the pub and this was their second visit. Team was nice who was working my partner family enjoyed their food I didn't eat myself.

Did not have a meal but the windmill was clean and the people clean and pleasant
