Visited at 8pm on a Saturday night and the pub was empty. May have something to do with overbearing smell of damp as soon as you enter. Gets worse towards the toilets where the stench of urine made you gag. They need to lift those old quarry tiles and replace with something more practical. Shame as this is a lovely old pub, just seems to have gone down bank in recent times.

The pub has a lot of character and a great selection of drinks. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. However, there was a strong smell of dampness in the bar. I understand that this is an old building and dampness can be a problem. I also run a business in an older property and we purchased a dehumidifier. The difference it made to the smell was incredible. I would recommend that you purchase a dehumidifier. Thank you for your time.

I was looking forward to visiting this. A Joules pub, a brewery I haven't come across before. We had to squeeze past a couple of blokes smoking on the doorstep. The pub is a fairly basic boozer though nothing wrong with that. We couldn't sit at the table we'd initially selected as next to that a lady with a dog advised us that her dog was aggressive and wouldn't like our dog. Nice. No snacks of any description as they 'hadn't had a delivery'. A further star docked for subjecting us to commercial radio. If I'm paying to sit and drink your beer then I don't expect to have to listen to adverts while doing that. The Joules Pale Ale was lovely. I'd have liked to explored the Joules range more but it hadn't endeared us to linger or to return during our visit to Leek.

Not the normal Joules experience! This pub is dying, ignored by barstaff on entry, one lady stood chatting from inside the bar to another customer 'local?' ''No we don't have any slumbering monk'' Started making a coffee, started serving another customer, forgot about coffee, coffee was then served cold. Another customer was forced to shout ''is anybody serving?'' And there were 3 people behind the bar, leaving everything to one young girl!!!! Very poor.... We left after 1 drink

A really nice little old Joule’s pub in the heart of Leek. Got all the Joule’s ales if that’s to your liking, beer garden is a good enough size (I counted about 9 tables, a couple under a shade, one under a permanent wooden shade) if you enjoy your pint in the open air, if you can visit during the off peak, it’s a surprisingly quiet and relaxing place to enjoy good ale (although do keep in mind I popped in for a half pint at 2pm on a sunny Monday so it being quiet and not busy goes without saying 😂).

Decent size beer garden out the back and some outdoor seating to the front of the pub. This looks out over the high street so is great for people watching and catching the sun. Live music was on when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. There are some good choices on the food menu and the service is always good in Joules pubs such as this one. Overall a really friendly local pub with a great location in the town, just opposite a Titanic pub and with many more within walking distance. There is a car park directly behind the pub but it'd recommend parking on the nearby Aldi if it is a short visit as you will then be able to park for free. Get yourself in for a pint of Green Monkey.

Been here a couple of times, and I just find it an oddly designed pub. Beautiful lit fireplace, but it's near the main entrance so you can't sit around it. Bar is for serving and you can't sit at it, so there's no socialisation with the staff. The other areas of the pub are all separated, apart from the back area, but that feels like an add on. Decor is really nice and authentic for the most part, but the back suffers from too much gift shop tat on the walls. And although I do love my ales, I've not found a Joules drink I like yet.

Me and my friends use this pub every Sunday evening for the very popular speedquiz and we are always made to feel welcome by Lynne the landlady and her side kick Alan. The staff are friendly and always smiling, nothing is too much trouble. The rear garden is clean and tidy and the flower pots and hanging baskets would give any professional gardener a run for their money - it’s a definite must see. We highly recommend this pub - and the quiz .

Popped into the the cock Inn beer garden via the back entrance during the totally locally Market with my dog. I enquired first to ask if this is a dog friendly pub. The girl behind the bar said "yes, you can even bring him in the bar if you like."But we sat at the top of the beer garden close to the entrance gate because of the fine weather. There were no one else in the beer garden at this time , and felt it is secure for my dog, except for the fact that the back entrance wrought iron gate was open, so we pushed it to, so my dog could happily roam safely. The land lady came out with a face like thunder (she must of seen us on her cameras) and snapped at us to keep the gate open. I said, but then my dog would not be safe being so close to the public car park and road. She replied with, "I don't care. Keep your dog on a lead"! There's no signs around to ask to keep the gate open. If she had politely asked in an appropriate manner. I would of happily stayed there longer. But her attitude has put me off going back again! They claim to be a dog friendly pub, but it didn't make us feel that this is the case!

Having just viewed a comment on Facebook posted by the Cock Inn, Leek, regarding a number of local drinkers I feel I should put the record straight, the 14 customers that arrived, were in groups of 6 4 and 4 all were shown to tables for 6 4 and 4, no problem, all were served in a orderly manner, all had 2 drinks each during their stay, the problem that arose was when the Cock Management sat another 5 customers at a table for 4 which left one of 5 new customers not socially distanced far enough away from the other customers, quite rightly a complaint was made by the other customers, The Cock Management had in doing this broken COVID rules, the Facebook comment does not reflect the truth in this matter, I will not be visiting this public house again.

Up for the weekend visiting friends for a pleasant wander around Leek and an afternoon pint when against my better judgement agreed to visit this hostelry, despite the total arrogant hostility encountered last time (2018). Beer very poor average and very expensive but the vileness of the landlord was unchanged ! A massive ego without any substance.... we escaped to the pub across the road and had pleasant food, company and fine ale. I cannot believe folk put up with this abhorrent egomaniac and fill his not un voluminous pockets. Never again.
