Me and my friends often go here for tea after work. Its recently had a new owner and shes's lovely. Infact all the staff are lovely. The food and service are great and its a lovely atmosphere, so we will continue going there. Its well worth a visit......

Visited this pub for lunch. In summary, there’s a reason this place has the unusual ‘policy” of demanding you pay in advance for your meal. We waited 50 minutes for food to arrive despite the place being virtually empty. When it did arrive, the meals were fine/edible however one meal (the chicken burger) was particularly inedible. It was dry, bland and overcooked. After a few bites, we flagged the waiter and politely informed him, asking for a refund for that meal rather than another long wait for a replacement. To our surprise, the waiter returned and told us the manager has said because some had been eaten, only half of the cost would be refunded. In his defence, he appeared highly embarrassed. We asked to speak to the manager, to then be told she was “too busy” (again, the place remained empty). On asking again, she finally approached us and her opening line was “what’s the problem”. She was rude, sarcastic and continued to argue with us - making irrelevant comments about other meals that had been eaten. It was truly the most disgusting example of customer service we have ever encountered- we were all left completely shocked. Ultimately, I would avoid this place like the plague. I notice a lot of reviews seem positive (which is why we visited) but actually, many people do seem to have had a similar experience with this manager - and a Google review we have put on this incident has immediately been removed. So approach with caution!

Firstly you have to pay for your meals at the time of ordering - we now know why, because frankly, the quality of some of the food was so poor we would have refused to pay for most of it! People complaining has probably happened a lot hence the ‘get the money off them first policy’. We then waited for what felt like an age to get served. As for the food, only my meal, a Steak and Ale pie, was of an acceptable standard. The hunters chicken burger with bacon was so dry and overcooked it was almost inedible. The beef burrito was not much better, and the accompanying onion rings were just lost in thick greasy burnt batter. When we complained and asked to speak to the person in charge - the rude manageress initially told our male waiter that she was too busy to speak to us despite the fact the place was virtually empty. She also told us via the waiter that she would only refund the cost of half a meal because in her view, the Burger was nearly half eaten (it wasn’t). When she did eventually emerge after we sent the second meal back, she was really aggressive towards us from the off. Thanks to my daughter calmly explaining that we did not seek confrontation, just recompense for the inedible food, she eventually (and reluctantly) agreed to compensate the cost of one full meal. Even then in her Mrs. Angry state, she managed to over charge us for another £13.50, so ended up having to be refunded £27.00 to cover the error. After this experience we will avoid the place like the plague - and would advise anyone else thinking of eating here to do likewise. Interestingly, reading through the other reviews, whilst many are more complimentary- there are a number of them with a strikingly similar experience that can’t be coincidence.

Went for lunch at around 1pm so not late in the service as the place does not open until 12 the service was fine but the food shocking the chips were soggy as though they had been under a heat lamp all night and as for the steak and ale pie wow I've never tasted anything as salty unedible

A very quiet pub for lunch on a Saturday (soon to understand why) we ordered food for 5 and immediately were asked to pay the bill. Not a typical request within a restaurant pub but I thought not much of this. After an hour of waiting, we received what can only be described as very poor food. Chips flooded with oil and my personal plate, had bacon which was inedible. I ate half a burger and eventually gave up as the taste and texture was simply awful. I made a very simple complaint and request ‘happy to pay for the rest food but please refund my plate’. The reality was, none of use enjoyed the food but we didn’t want to make a scene. I was told that I ate half the food, therefore would receive half a refund or I could speak to the manager, why I agreed. After a long wait, the waiter informed me that the manager was ‘too busy’ to talk to me (though there were literally 6 people in the pub’. The owners attitude is simply awful! Extremely argumentative and rude. Very aggressive and simply not what you expect as a paying customer with a genuine complaint. Please read other reviews where this seems a common issue. IMO she has literally zero people skill and should reconsider working in hospitality - I think the lack of custom is due to her as the other staff were very polite and kind. Paying the bill up front - I have suspicions that this is not because of theft as such, but people receiving such bad food and service, they simply refuse to pay and walk out - probably as shocked as we were. A big statement but simply factual - in 34 years, this is the worse service I have ever received and all due to the owner - if I could rate a minus score, this would be more accurate.

We honestly cannot fault this place and the staff fab as always . Yes we had a longer than normal wait due to some in house problems , however when you get served the standard of the food you do it's well worth the wait . 💯 our place to eat just 10 minutes from home

My wife and I are currently staying locally. Have been recommended this Bar/Restaurant. Not eaten as yet. But have witnessed some fabulous plates of food for diners. What has impressed me is the open and modern menu lay-out. It caters for vegans, gluten free, vegetarian by a simple numbered item system that is so easy to understand that every Restaurant should adopt. Well done Black Horse 🐎

My partner and I went for dinner on Sunday and the food was absolutely gorgeous! We both had the Sunday dinner and the portions were insane, we particularly liked the gravy, lamb and the roast vegetables. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and polite, they really made our visit. The landlady was very attentive to the guests and eagerly took feedback and conversation which made the experience all the more better. Highly recommend.

We visited today(4thApril). The food was excellent, I had Gambas Pil Pil for a starter and pan fried chicken as my main meal. Both were very tasty and nicely presented, although I did think carrots would've been a good addition to my main meal. I gave 3 stars for atmosphere because we were the only people in there until just before we left. This wasn't the staffs fault, we were quite early(17:00). All in all a very clean and tidy pub, the staff were very polite and helpful. We'll definitely be going again. Great food.

Booked a table for 7pm and promptly ordered food, food didn't arrive until 8:15pm despite not being full in the pub. Very odd that we were presented with the tables bill before food arrived (it was table service). Bland burgers and the chips didn't taste freshly cooked. We were aware there was a band on at 9pm so thought 7pm would be plenty of time to eat beforehand. The band however were warming up/playing well before this time and as a result of the slow service we were eating dessert after the band had started. A friend had ordered a chocolate brownie sundae but they had 'run out of brownie' and was just served ice cream. As the band were in full swing and unable to hear each other my friend just ate the ice cream. After pushing for a refund/some recognition that the dessert essentially was only half of what was ordered he was given a refund of 45p! With too much of a headache and unable to communicate with the staff we gave up and left. Let's just say we won't be back!

We visit here a lot hence the 4 star review however when we visited last night I would say at best it was a 3 star. After hosting friends at our house we came to the black horse as it’s a firm favourite of ours and had been raving about it to them. Typically this wasn’t the night to come. We came as a table of 4 adults and 2 children. The restaurant wasn’t busy however there was a table of 7 behind us which I understand. However we weren’t told until the waiter had taken our order that our food order wouldn’t be going to the kitchen until the table of 7 had been served. We understood and thought no problem however we waited 1 and half hours in total for our food. Due to the children becoming restless and bored (2&3 year olds) I did ask if maybe there food could be brought out at least, it was the same order of 2 children’s pizzas. Which the pizza just had 3 small slices of cheese on so didn’t seem too hard to make? Anyway, the meals never came out and the children’s were the last to come. I did request no bacon on the burger also but still came with it, we did note it to the waiter but after waiting so long for the food I couldn’t be bothered to wait again. Last night won’t put us off coming again as we do love going however if it was someone’s first time it probably would prevent them from coming back. 4 stars given for the general experience we have had before.

Après avoir garé la voiture, la patronne nous a dit que le parking était interdit (15 places, 10 places disponibles). Elle nous a. Dit de partir nous garer plus loin et de dégager. « C’est mon parking, que faites-vous sur mon parking ! », « aller vous garer plus loin » Conclusion : pas de bière, nous nous sommes fait jeter avant même de pouvoir rentrer. Je ne recommande absolument pas cet endroit. Impolitesse et méchanceté ! Très déçu 😞

What a FANTASTIC meal! I had booked The Black Horse for a surprise Retirement meal for my mum, along with friends. There was 12 of us in total. We all did pre orders, so it was easier. The service from the kitchen, to the waiting on, to the bar staff was second to none. They couldnt do enough for you! Everyone in the party said they will be back to visit agin. Thank you to everyone that was working last night (27/3/24) for your outstanding service. WELL DONE ALL!

We have eaten at the black horse quite a few times and have always found the staff really friendly and the food outstanding. Today the staff exceeded our expectations- we couldn’t make it to the pub because our 3 year old was hurt and needed to go home. They cooked us our meal and allowed us to pick it up as a takeaway and even lent us their best plates! The food was delicious and the staff were super helpful. We would highly recommend the black horse

We have been to The Black Horse this evening for Mother’s Day. The food was absolutely amazing. The staff were brilliant and very welcoming as well. I’d definitely recommend the pub.

Great service and environment, and food. A good friendly local ran by locals. Portion sizes were good enough too (I'm finding everywhere has generally cut back on portions rather than cost). Delicious cheesecake.

I was advised to try this pub by a family member. I'm so glad we did. Lovely light and airy place with not too many tables so didn't have that cramped atmosphere. We ordered 3 adult meals and 1 kids meal. Your meal will NOT come out in 10 minutes which proves the rumour of fresh food cooked as ordered and not standing all day. Staff are lovely and friendly and tables were cleaned as soon as vacant (massive bugbear of mine to see dishes left on tables) Checkbacks were done but I was too busy eating the beautiful pan fried chicken to answer! (That was presented so beautifully by the way...) I've seen other reviews criticising the price of drinks. This is not a back street pub. It is an eatery that serves drinks and I personally think the price is spot on. (I hope none of these people complaining about prices visit London!) I have been looking for my favourite place to eat and I've found it. Thank you to all who served, waited, cooked and looked after us. You will definitely see us again. HIGHLY recommend.

Booked a table for two on Saturday night . First time we have visited since b4 Covid. I was looking forward to crossing swords with the allegedly fearsome Georgina a especially after reading a few of the negative recent reviews. How wrong these reviews are. Yes the pay up front policy is a bit different but if you are prepared to set up a tab by leaving your card in the till (which I'm assured is covered by three security cameras ) you just carry on as normal in most places. In the past they would take a swipe off your card but apparently they are not allowed to do that any more . We had a really good chat with Georgina and she was absolutely lovely, yes she is very protective of her business and especially her staff but certainly not rude or abrupt as described in a couple of reviews . I imagine she could hold her own with anyone but you need to be like that in the current economic climate. We both ordered the pan fried chicken with bacon in a white wine creamy sauce .....absolutely beautiful ....perfect chips and lovely trio of greens. I had a couple of pints of Reverend James and Christine had a couple of Appletize, the bill was £44 which we both felt was about spot on for the standard and the service. We will 100% be returning for round 2 with the formidable Georgina lol!!

Rude, liar of a landlady who doesn’t like the truth. Food is adequate, nothing to rave about but the landlady, when questioned upon her ‘policy’ (that isn’t visible!) about paying before your food was vile to our party, heavily patronising and then said we were rude!! Would not be returning and would advise people to avoid this awful place.

Terrible attitude from landlady trying but failing to justify paying upfront when basically only just sat down and ordered drinks and food .Apparently we are are criminals .Shame really as food was good but nkn of the party of six will return

The pub has very much improved under the new landlady's keen eye for detail and desire to make it a real part of the community. The menu is very good with lots of vegan and vegetarian options. Good beer on tap and lots of great events on, too.

Visited the Black Horse. Endon today, for lunch with my sister. Excellent experience. Had the pan fried chicken for mains, followed by cheesecake for dessert. Food, service & atmosphere fabulous. Ten out of ten. Could not fault anything. Gina is very passionate about the pub & business & works very hard to create the best experience for her customers. The waitress was very pleasant & excellent at her job. Made us very welcome. Would definitely recommend the Black Horse, Endon & cannot wait to return again. 😀 Thank you for a perfect lunch.

Not been to this pub for a while , was recommended to go by a friend for the vegan/veggie menu. So glad we went ! Well….. where to start , great vegan choices , gluten free choices , children’s choices , lighter snacks if required and even a solution to bariatric surgery portions . Lovely polite staff , comfy & clean seating area’s , lovely atmosphere , very reasonable prices and my husband vouches for a decent pint ! The landlady………. Nothing is to much trouble , just ask , aims to please and basically I think she’s nailing it ! Won’t hesitate to go back !

We had just walked from the canal to the Black Horse as the internet said it was dog friendly. When we arrived we found out that it was not dog friendly inside,only outside.Some lame excuse for this was given but that doesn’t help two hungry people who were prepared to spend £50 or £60 quid on food and drink. Any pub that close to a canal not excepting dogs must have a serious problem because 90% of boaters own a dog. I would love to recommend it but as I was not allowed in the door that is impossible.

First visit to here on October 14th- recommended by my son. Absolutely beautiful food, very good size, staff very friendly and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you in anyway. Definitely recommend. Be back again soon.

We visited The Black Horse Endon last night with a group of friends to celebrate our successes in their Sunday night quiz. The food and service were excellent and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Perfection! Booked for a meal with family including young children on arrival we were greeted and seated with a smile, the table was perfect plenty of space away from other diners, drinks order taken drinks arrived quick food order taken loved the menu lots of choices and variation to cater for all requirements, Food came out was amazing children enjoyed it adults thoroughly enjoyed it one was the monster burger we had such fun! staff were fantastic friendly and helpful really clean and professional couldn’t of been better the food and drinks for 7 of us was a very fair price we will be returning! Thank you so much to all staff 😁

We used to eat here once a month and were always more than happy with the food and service.Having not been since it has changed hands we were dissapointed with the food. All 4 of us thought it was bland and nowhere near as good as the previous owners , or as good value as many local pubs.We were also not displeased at having to pay in advance, if the food was up to standard people would be more than happy to pay for it before leaving.

If you order a bottle of wine BE AWARE!!! Very AWARE!!! Until you're presented with your bill by which time you've already had a glass you won't know that you're being charged £29 for a bottle of Shiraz that retails at £10 a bottle!! Extortionate to say the least! When we asked about this the "manager " stated there was nothing she could do about the price because she was tied to Admiral Inns pricing ....but we have it on good authority that the price the Bkack Horse will have paid per bottle is appropriately £6 per bottle! You've been warned....if I were you just drink water with your meal as the food was excellent

Well what can I say. The food here is absolutely superb. Beautiful surroundings and service with a smile 🙂. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, all cooked from scratch and piping hot. I've always wanted to try the Black Horse and so glad I did. This is a place where I will gladly return to. Would highly recommend to anyone who loves a homemade menu. Plenty of choice - beautifully presented. 10 out of 10 We can't wait to go back Sue Hughes ♥️

Visited the black horse today for a late lunch. I ordered the battered fish bites, with chips, peas and a side of onion rings. The meal was delicious, very tasty. I definitely enjoyed it and thanked the staff for a wonderful meal. I recomend this venue for dining. The food is excellent 👌

It took an hour and a half to get the food which wasn't good, no table check , had to pay up front. Greasy food but ate it because we were so hungry from waiting so long. We will Not be going back .

We waited 1 1/2 hours for our food, for rump steak fish and chicken. The steak had that much fat and grissle on it there wasn't much meat, to be fair what bit of meat there was it was tasty. We weren't table checked at all, half way through or when the plates were cleared. And if that was rump you need to sack your butcher and your chef to be fair. For food it wasn't that busy. We had to ask how long out food was going to be as well. Will not be returning . The atmosphere I scored 1 only because the band were on. Very disappointed

Food is amazing and the staff are super friendly

Service and staff were great but the food was terrible. I had the jambalaya and it had zero seasoning. Just tasted like the can of tomatoes that was thrown in. Everyone on the table said the same thing about what they had ordered. Not a plate was finished. Unfortunate as we had heard good reviews but definitely not what we experienced.

Wow, best breakfast I have had in a long time, food and coffee out of this world, all for £13:95. All local butcher meat, the staff as ever were helpful and friendly. Gina and the team you did great as ever.

This was the first time we had eaten there since it changed hands. The food was lovely, piping hot and more than adequate portions. Service was great. Thoroughly enjoyed by all four of us.

My friend and I attended for the 1st time and had a lovely dining experience. The place was full and we had to park on the road behind the car park. Even though there were so many people in for Sunday lunch, the service was great. We chose Beef and Lamb dinners which were good sized portions so we didn't manage to eat every bit. The meat was very tender and all of the potatoes, veg and Yorrkshire pudding were fresh and delicious. Unfortunately we couldn't manage a pudding so Mandy recommended that we could try a children's size meal next time and then a pudding if we preferred. A few minutes later the landlady, Gina, came over and introduced herself and chatted for a few minutes which we thought was a wonderful gesture and excellent customer service. We will definitely visit again as the entire team were polite and thoughtful and it was so refreshing to have fabulous customer service. We are looking forward to trying other dishes on the extensive menu, Thanks to all the staff.

We have started revisiting The Black Horse again after many years away. The new management are trying really hard to encourage the return of old customers and new. I visited the pub today with my wife and friends for breakfast. In summary a very good experience. The Service. Was prompt and attentive and the staff were polite. The Food. A range of breakfasts and breakfast sandwiches on the menu provided a good choice along with drinks. The Traditional English breakfast was very good with good quality bacon and sausages in stark contrast to recent experiences in other establishments that provide inferior quality. The breakfast was well presented well cooked and tasted just as a traditional breakfast should. Well done will be a repeat customer.

Very disappointed. We've eaten here many times and generally had excellent food and friendly service. Came a few weeks ago and the beer (Director's), though drinkable, tasted a bit 'off'. I didn't complain but mentioned it to the barman when I bought a different pint. Director's is normally a smooth, sweet, full bodied pint but this was a bit harsh and unsatisfying. The landlady/manager overheard the conversation and took over asking what was wrong with it, I described as above, as best as I could. She persisted for several minutes trying to get me to describe in detail where I thought it was lacking (my food was going cold!). I don't know the language to describe the finer details of taste, I'm no beer connoisseur, I just know it wasn't quite right. Again, I wasn't complaining or asking for a refund or free pint, and she was fairly friendly but so persistent that I was made to feel like I was being interrogated! The second pint I bought didn't taste quite right either; I drank it. Meal was excellent. So, last night we tried again. Welcomed in, ordered drinks, Chardonnay and a Directors. This time the beer was really not nice. After last time I didn't fancy mentioning it. We ordered food, then ten minutes later the waiter brought us the bill. I thought he'd come to the wrong table! No, apparently they now take payment before the meal because of people leaving without paying. I felt very uncomfortable with this; it's quite an unusual way to take payment. Pre-paying when ordering at the bar would be quite acceptable but to be presented with the bill at the table just before the food arrives and told it's because people leave without paying made me feel like they'd assessed us as a risk. This, added to the fear of complaining about the poor beer. I'll stress the waiter was very polite and apologetic but I was annoyed, embarrassed, I didn't feel welcome, wondered if it was just us being asked to pay up front, could sense others watching so I paid for the two drinks and we left to eat elsewhere. I'll stress, the food is very good but the manager needs to get the draft beer sorted and if it really is always pre-payment for everyone then find a more normal way of doing it!

This pub is excellent, great food. The chips are amazing. Good choice of gluten free options. Lovely friendly, professional staff who make you feel welcome. Well worth a visit you won’t be disappointed.
