Very enjoyable experience. Friendly service with a great menu.

Beautiful country pub/restaurant in a lovely rural backwater setting. Visited on a very busy Sunday afternoon which had a great buzz about it. Staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Food was great and clearly homemade. Prices were not too bad, but you do get what you pay for!. We had food and drinks including wine and coffee.

Great experience, although for a modern pub, I was disappointed in the vegetarian choices...its more popular now than ever, but were not seeing this on menus unfortunately.

Average food and service, the veg on the roast dinner should advertise that it’s covered in butter.

This place is a real mixed bag. We booked a table for 4 and were seated in a modern, cafe like dining room. Ok but not the country pub I recalled from previous visits. There was a more traditional area but this was reserved for a private event. After our meal, typical pub grub cost around £50 for two with tea, we decided to go into the bar for a chat. Like stepping back to 1960, very rough and ready. I guess the pub caters for the various but I found it a strange hotch potch of styles.

Came here Sunday for a baby celebration when there was 10+ people and the reason I’m leaving this review is when we got the bill, they charged us a 15% ‘service charge’ aka tip. This is not the USA, you don’t expect tips. Whether it’s 2 people or 10+ people. This kind of grifting is rediculous and works on peer pressure and social bullying relying on people not to speak up or make a scene about the service charge at the table in front of other guests. I don’t care about that cause this kind of thing shouldn’t be tolerated. Very poor.

Staff not brilliant. Older male server was heard mocking other customers by myself. A younger male server had issues smiling. Food was average too.

I went with my family NY EVE food was ok , The mash wasn’t nice it was ment to be creamy definitely wasn’t I had to order a gravy boat to soften it up. It also went cold fast . Staff was cold , not welcoming ! We went to pay the bill and I asked to pay separately from others , and the look the man gave me behind the till was awfully rude . Couldn’t see what his issue was as we all knew what we had. Won’t be rushing back.

Staying in the area for Christmas and found this place on Google, reviews looked great so thought we’d give it a go. Unfortunately it was probably the most unfriendly welcome we’ve had to a pub. The staff were the opposite of attentive except the girls serving the food. Guy at front desk and the guy behind the bar were extremely cold. 50/50 experience around the table with the food. Sandwiches were okay, but the chips were dreadful. Soggy and not triple cooked at all as suggested. Nice atmosphere for just a drink if you’re not looking for service with a smile, but I’d skip the food. Likely wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

Beautiful Sunday lunch Recently visited the Stafford arms for Sunday lunch & felt I had to leave a glowing review. The pub never fails from when you park outside & look at what gorgeous pub this is . Service was very attentive all through , the food was immaculate. My wife said the beef roast was the best she had tasted all year , which is strong praise when I think of some of the dining establishments we have visited . So top marks for the chef & the beef roast . We will be back hopefully in the new year .

Booked this place for our daughters 30th Birthday on recommendation. Wasn't disappointed! Great food and service in a beautifully decorated restaurant. Desserts were yummy. Refurbished bar area is lovely. Booking recommended, very busy in the evening.

I was lucky to share the evening with the owner’s lovely family, friends, and the talented team who brought the vision for the bar to life. It felt like one big celebration of hard work and community spirit. The food was absolutely spot-on—every dish was full of flavor and cooked to perfection. You could tell a lot of love and care went into everything, from the menu to the service. I’m already looking forward to going back for another meal and, of course, to enjoy the fabulous new bar. Visited twice in October. Both times it was for a large family event. Food was excellent and we had a great deal of help in making the arrangements.

Miserable rude staff, not enough staff about when you need them, little things felt like we were putting them out and average food at best. This place used to be fantastic !! I feel to charge the prices they do they need to seriously up their game!. More engaging friendly helpful staff needed !!!

Never had a bad meal here but today’s visit was exceptionally good. Fast, friendly service in beautiful surroundings. Parking can be “fun” but worth the effort!

Come to the Stafford arms as we were staying at the Glamping holly grove farm, which they recommended to come here. The service was really quick, the location and inside was beautiful. Lovely and friendly staff and the food was so so nice. Would definitely go again.

Love the Stafford Arms and regularly visit. We normally have a couple bottles of wine with selection of snacks and sides which never disappoints. However last night we were very disappointed and would have been better off with a few bags of crisps rather than half a dozen tortilla crisps and salsa very poor value for money.

Hi we went to Stafford arms tonight, 4 of us we had drinks which were very nice, we also ordered snacks which were very disappointing they used to be good value for money but not anymore.

We found this lovely pub whilst visiting the area. It’s a lovely looking pub and plenty of outdoor seating. Once inside the decor is very nice with great artwork. We were seated straight away. There is an extensive list of good food yes a little expensive but you pay more for good food. There are plenty of gluten free options there is a little bit of a longer wait for GF food due to food being cooked separately. The food was well cooked and delicious. It is waitress service The staff were friendly and helpful checking if everything was okay with meals, they did get the drinks order wrong but easily sorted. The pudding menu sounded delicious but just too full for pudding. Will most definitely visit again if in the area again.

Great first visit but only 2 servers on a busy lunch time meant, no fault to them, they were over stretched and so there was a little wait on a Weds lunch time. Food great, and decor beautiful.

Very good. The Bass is excellent and as an added bonus they had Hook Norton on as well. All in all very enjoyable and dog friendly too, give it a visit I don't think you'll be disappointed 🙂

I have to say love going to the Stafford Arms and try and go regular,went a few days ago and as always the food and the service in the restaurant was great as it always is.My only gripe is the bar selection there are no continental bottled beers available only Peroni gluten free or San Miguel 0,i would say most places you go these days do have a selection,this is not a complaint just constructive criticism and hope these comments are taken onboard

The perfect country pub, which we are lucky to live a stones throw away from. My favourite place for a Sunday lunch, this place never disappoints. Friendly attentive staff in a quaint country pub setting with fabulous food. A gem.

We've visited a few times before and decided on a whim to go on a Wednesday early evening. Arrived around 6pm and there was plenty of space inside and out. It was a nice day so we sat outside in front of the pub in the largeish beer garden. Food was delicious, had the chicken and leek pie and feather shin of beef. Both were fantastic. Would highly recommend, you can dine inside or out, in the restaurant or the bar, both have slightly different menus.

We love this place and travel to it. We were slightly disappointed with the food Let me explain we ordered corned beef and poached egg for starter and a goats cheese and figs the latter was gorgeous however the corned beef in a panel crumb I couldn't cut through it with a standard knife I think this was overdone and the poached was a boiled egg as overdone too .We ordered chicken ceasar salad which was lovely but it didn't have any anchovies on it but they are on the menu which is why we ordered it We will still visit as the drinks available are amazing they did knock off the corned beef starter but we didn't ask for them to do that we love the decor etc The staff were also amazing so we just thought we would review it just so your aware and correct any issues raised J Eand T E.

I was so looking forward to our dining experience but the food appeared precooked and then reheated making it over cooked! I suppose this is the danger of a preorder booking. My grandsons chicken goujons were inedible! No-one asked us if our found was ok so I had to go over to the bar to let them know. They were hard and more than overcooked! The staff apologised and said that it would take a few minutes to make some fresh ones but 20 mins later my grandson was still waiting while most of us had finished dining! The whole family were disappointed by the meal and I did feel very guilty because it had been my idea to dine here. I’d heard lots of different views snout the food recently and I wish that I’d listened. My hubbies birthday family tea was not a pheasant experience. Gutted!

Went for a Sunday roast and the food we did get was nice, but for a £20+ roast to only have meat, stuffing, roast & new potatoes, cauliflower, carrots, and cabbage (no mash, yorkshires) and only have a relatively small portion is disappointing. Left hungry and a bit unsatisfied, I would recommend looking elsewhere as the price is excessive for what you get

Had a lovely time here. The staff were lovely and kind, and service was quick. I highly recommend the 12oz Gammon steak, it tastes exquisite when paired with the brown sauce that comes along with it. The chips were something unlike I had eaten before, cooked to perfection and perfectly salted. I’ve found the black pudding at many restaurants to be hit-and-miss, but here, it was absolutely lovely. The lemonade didn’t taste like soda water, something that I’ve encountered in the past. Absolutely 10/10 and would come again.

Delicious food, food was hot, staff very efficient, service was quick, sat in the older part of the building, very traditional with dome modern touches.

For the second year running, our family enjoyed Mother's Day lunch at The Stafford Arms! We pre-ordered from a good selection of all three courses and upon arrival, were shown into the bar for drinks whilst our table was prepared. We were seated on time and served with our starters promptly. All of our food was beautifully presented, hot and plentiful so all happy! Despite obviously so many parties booked for Mother's Day, the service was friendly and attentive and everything considered, we were most satisfied with our choice of venue. The additional Primula (plant) gift for the ladies was a lovely touch too! If I had one small suggestion, it would be to offer two courses as an option. I understand that guaranteed income is reduced on the day but this would definitely have benefitted one or two in our party. Just an idea! We can only imagine what hard work goes on behind the scenes to produce such an amazing experience. Thank you to all the team! 😊

Nice pint, lovely warm atmosphere

We popped in for a quick drink after visiting a local nursery. Its a place i've not been to in 30 years, boxing day beers with my brother's family. It has changed internally for sure and the beer garden looks more enticing. There was a crowd of people in both dining halls and a mixture of folks in the bar. My wife liked its old age charm, tick in the box for me!

Although we had a reservation, the table we were given was not appropriate and we had to request another chair to squeeze on. Service was very slow, after half an hour we had to find someone. The starters took another 40 minutes to arrive. Then a long wait for the main courses, of which three were incorrect, we had asked for salad in place of chips. And they brought chips. When asked to rectify, the "remedy" was simply to remove the chips and claim the replacement salad was on the bun, when clearly it was not as other burgers had exactly the same salad. One burger was so oily the bottom of the bun stuck to the plate. We waited another half an hour to order puddings but gave up, paid and left. We regularly visit the Stafford Arms spending £250 to £350 a visit, this was a very disappointing experience, to the extent we won't be returning.

Visited for lunch, we hadn’t booked but were quickly accommodated in a lovely airy part of the restaurant. It was busy, yet it didn’t feel it. Excellent tasty food and good service. The only thing, was in retrospect we saw online that they had an additional special menu on this day which we were denied; we were only offered the main menu. This special menu had an additional selection of offerings which we might have chosen.

We hadn’t booked so arrived and asked for a table for 2, we were directed into the small pokey bar. We were not offered a place in the restaurant which only had a few people in there. One young lady behind the bar, she was good but needed another bar member, there was a male standing at the end of the bar just watching whilst we waited to be served. Where we were seated there was mould and damp on the walls and cracks too, shabby. The meals arrived we ate them and left. The meal was ok but definitely not worth the £46 we paid.

Absolutely fabulous, brilliant food, staff, pricing, felt at ease, never thought about covid, issues, can not wait to go again. Regular to this pub,for occasional pint ,and meals.

Eating out these days is expensive and often disappointing, in my experience, so we came in with low expectations. However, we had a wonderful meal for two. Compliments to the chef, it felt like the food had been freshly made to a good standard, which is hard to come by these days. Good attention had been paid to flavours, rather than just dowsing everything with salt. We had a starter and a main and were stuffed. The portion sizes were generous, food served lovely & hot, there was a good amount of veg with the dish (which is another thing pubs and restaurants seem to overlook). There was a good amount of extra gravy in the gravy boat for the pie. Atmosphere was great, service was great. Everywhere felt clean. All things that are important to a nice meal out. Will recommend and hope to return.

Lovely food on the 2 courses for £18.95 menu -masses of meat in the chicken and ham pie and very tasty! Half price fizz on a Friday is a great deal! It was quite empty for a Friday lunchtime but it was a very cold day. Nice that we were sitting next to a radiator!

Could definitely use some improvement! I’ll start by saying the food was great during my recent visit but the customer service was so rude!!!! When we asked for the bill one of the waitresses tossed it onto our table and stomped off! It was one of the most disgusting customer service experiences I’ve ever had! The staff definitely need training in how to speak and treat their customers. Also depending on where you sit there’s a constant door flapping open and shut into the kitchens, not exactly a pleasant view. Overall I would go elsewhere!!
