Waiting 1 hour & 20 minutes for a child’s sausage and mash. Arrived in an ice cream bowl, 1 sausage and 2 teaspooons worth of mash (£8.50). Mentioned the issue was spoken to horrendously by ‘kitchen manager’ I have never been spoken to like it as a customer or human in fact. After arguments (from the manager) I was told she was sending someone to the shops to get ‘another sausage’ - I asked her not to bother and please refund (45 minutes later) I would avoid this place.

A fantastic place that is really close to Alton Towers and was perfect for an overnight stay, especially as there was a self check-in facility. Everything was very clean and the room itself was very well furnished, nice hot shower and a comfy bed (just what we needed after a day of queuing. Thanks so much, we will be back.

Visited here yesterday with friends. My friend ordered a pint of bass, which was the last one in the barrel. He took one sip and returned it to the bar as it was flat and he asked for a replacement Guinness. You might think that she’d have just replaced it like for like, or maybe at a push, expect him to pay the difference. Nope, he was asked to pay the full amount. So, £3.70 for a flat pint of bass that he returned and £4.80 for a pint of Guinness! We left after one drink and chose another pub nearby which had much better service. In addition to the poor service, the interior is tired and it’s not somewhere we’d go to again

Had to wait over an hour and a half for our food. I politely asked if we had been forgotten after an hour and was told they were cooking the fish but the person behind the bar didn't even check until my husband went in about 20 minutes later. When the food appeared another 20 minutes later the kitchen staff apologised that they had only got the order 20 minutes beforehand. The burger had nothing on it and the chips were overcooked and greasy. Then the fish and chips arrived a further 10 minutes later which were fine as cooked from scratch but by this time about 2 hours from when we ordered. No apology from the bar staff. Needless to say we didn't return and wouldn't recommend.

Been today with my brother and sister-in-law. The food was absolutely incredible. I had roast beef. They had the gammon. The food and veg were cooked to perfection. As for the cauliflower and 🥦 cheese, WOW! Just like my Grandma used to make. The thing that made our visit more special was Mackenzie and Kyle! If they were my sons, I'd be extremely proud of them both. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

Stopped off for a quick bite to eat on Thursday night as staying in Water Houses for a few days. I had the scampi which while sounds a simple meal was actually one of the best scampi meals I’ve had in a pub, the wife had the home made lasagne which was really good too. Aiming to try the roast dinner this Sunday while we are out and about site seeing.

IGNORE ‘dannyhopkins’ review in August. Just called here for a quick snack Wednesday lunch time after our walk. We had 2 pints of Thatchers, 1 tuna mayo and cucumber sandwich on thick hand cut granary bread, 1 tuna mayo on a warm baguette. Both had a nice side salad. We also had a side of home made chip’s……total bill was less than £25. The place is dog friendly too. Can’t grumble at that. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced. The lad behind the bar was friendly and helpful and the overall service was good. The only criticism we could have is that the music playing was a little loud and there was lots of heavy-ish rock playing. We like rock music but might not be to everyone’s taste. Just need to tweak their music playlist. Thanks you for a lovely meal 👍

Note to management, if you leave a bunch of kids in charge you get reviews like this. Avoid avoid avoid avoid. Horrific lack of customer service... we stuck it out, two tables left. We arrived at the the pub 5 minutes later with a table layed out ready for us. We ordered drinks and chose our food which arrived after a short wait. The food was amazing. No opening times published on website or FB page. Luckily they did respond to an email. However, a early evening visit to the bar was very much ruined by a lack of parental / staff control over a lot of young children, who clearly felt like the place was theirs to do as they wished. In, out bang, crash, shout & scream etc. The quiet pint was not possible and the young bar staff were at a loss and the locals cared little. The pizzas that went out to the family masses looked very cheap supermarket and overcooked.

The Crown is a real-deal pub. There are two bars: One a lounge bar / dining area and the other a public bar. Both bars have log fires and the public bar has a TV... the TV is a bit unnecessary and intrusive but then I wasn't there to watch TV.There was a warm welcome - both as a result of the log fires and the hospitality of the staff. The lunch menu offered good variety and I think it was locally sourced and it was certainly prepared with care and attention. Good pub fare consisting of what would be recognised as 'British Pub Food'.Good beer and stuff for the ladies to drink, not stupidly expensive. The building itself has a bit of olde worlde character, as hinted at by the pub name. It has been well maintained and decoration is in good order and has been done in sympathy with the age and character of the building.

The location is perfect for the popular Manifold Valley /Tissington Trail loop. This is a free house so you get a good selection of beer and excellent food with plenty of choice. We happened to be there on Pie Night which was a fortunate coincidence for us as the pies are brilliant and were discounted that night. The atmostphere in the bar is jolly but not boisterous with an easy mix between locals and visitors like us.

Have stopped here for lunch on a few occasions as it is a convenient location near to the Manifold Way. The menu seemed to have been reduced since our last visit so I settled for fish and chips and my friends had jacket potatoes. The food was OK and the service perfectly acceptable but there was a smell of old cooking fat throughout the pub and the place felt rather down-at-heel. The landlord seemed nice, the waitresses were excessively slow, didn't really listen or seem to give a damn. The menu was alright, but it took over 45 minutes to get our food, which was okay, not fantastic. We considered a desert, however as the waitresses didn't attempt to clear the tables of the dishes at all for another 45 minutes, whilst at the same time serving locals who arrived long after us their deserts we felt that this kind of service could have been done better at McDonald's. I cleared the table and we left. The overall look was quite shabby and not welcoming and none of us enjoyed it and it certainly wasn't worth the money.

We travelled from Scotland arriving at Ye olde crown late on friday evening we where not familiar with the surroundings and entered using bar entrance. The bar was busy making us feeling out of place initially. Approached barman who showed us through to hallway and upto bedroom he explained they had just taken over & currently only one room was in use. We where pleasantly suprised by room clean, fresh and nicely done. We went out for fast food due to time we arrived and on return where disappointed when we realised there was a lounge serving meals not just the bar we saw initially as meals looked great. I did have a pudding whilst OH watched football and it was lovely! Had a pleasant sleep and in the morning they allowed us to go out and return for breakfast. The breakfast was something else.... The best we have had in any hotel! We could have shared it was so big. Would def recommend especially with renovating plans it should excel. Thanks for the hospitality wishing you all the best!

Was looking forward to a nice Sunday Lunch and the lunch was tasteless came out swimming in tasteless gravy. The seating in the lounge needs to be upholstered badlyGlass was dirty had lipstick on it and when asked for it to be replaced the guy that served us looked at us if it was our fault. When we went to pay the bill the same guy said If you give us a good review on trip advisor we will give you a free pint. We laughed at this and said we won't be back!!!!

We enjoyed the offer of steak with a bottle of wine thrown in and the meal was wonderful and so was the wine. On top all in front of a blazing real fire in an olde worldy pub atmosphere. What could be better on a cold night?

The food is very basic pub food, nicely done but nothing special. The pub is also very basic. The portions are very large and you would get good value. The food will not disappoint but it will not excite either.

Arrived in Waterhouses earlier this week for a short break. We had a couple of hours to spare before checking in to our accommodation so we stopped for a drink in Ye Olde Crown. It has a very cosy feel - we arrived at 1.00pm and it was quite cold so it was lovely sitting in front of the fire. The bar staff were very helpful recommending some of the ales, which my partner appreciated. We wanted a bite to eat but didn't want anything too heavy so the lady at the bar asked the chef to cut a fried chicken and bacon baguette in half for us, served on 2 plates with crisps and a side salad - bargain for £6! Will definitely visit again if we are in the area!

Table of 4. The guy who took our order hadn't a clue what was on the specials and the food was noting to write home about . There was lots of bad language been used in the order bar . The bar man didn't seem to care and every time we wanted a top up we had to ask . No costumer service at all. No music! No atmosphere at all. We won't return to this pub again .

Had a really enjoyable lunch here - they had whitebait as a starter, on special, and it was to die for. Followed it up with a cheddar and pickle salad, which was ace! Add a lovely, eccentric landlord and you've got a real winner. Would be back in a heartbeat!

We were a few weeks ago we had a great experience under the new which is now the old management . Food is always good here but the big lad working there would rather keep chatting to whom I expect is the locals . Rather then check back to see if we wanted anymore drinks or puddings . Not once did he ask ate we OK . They last time we came it was really busy and we were checked back on every few mins . He obviously hasn't a clue on customer service . And there was lots of swearing.coming from the pub. Think we will give it a miss in future as the new landlord seemed to not notice we were even there . Shame

Visited on a sunny but chilly summer's early evening with family (4 adults and 2 young nephews) after a football kick-about on the village pitch with the nephews that worked up my appetite and need for a beer! Had an excellent meal - my beef and stilton pie was really good. Kids loved their food. Lovely atmosphere - nice touch was a chess set behind the bar - so found myself finishing meal and playing chess with a faster-eating 8 year old! Great service and welcome from the new team. We'll visit again.

We were 15 hens staying at a nearby cottage, we had to pass this pub to get to the local shop so we thought we might stop for a quick taste of the local ale. What a lovely place, they served food which I could smell & it was very enticing... Petty we had just consumed our own body weight in chocolate making class before our walk as no one had any room for more :DI expected to walk into an atmosphere with there being a large group of us, it was almost as if we were expected we were welcomed so well.We were all served different drinks & went to sit outside on the benches as the sun was out, glorious surroundings & the sounds of the country. There were some locals there who spoke to us & were very pleasant.I think if we didn't have activities booked this would have been our haunt for the weekend :)Fab little place!

Went to this pub for Sunday dinner. Opted for the lamb shank. Beautifully tender and the vegetables were spot on. Homemade yorkshire puds just like your mother would make. Really enjoyable and will be going back. Really friendly staff also a bonus. Very accommodating. Thanks

We recently visited the area to do some mountain biking along the old railway track and noticed this pub . Looked quant , so we thought we pop in for a couple of quick ones. Wasn't to be we had an awful experience the locals were rude and obnoxious , at all times we felt awkward and looked down upon . My suggestion would be to stay well clear of this establishment n go up the road to the yew tree or the cross !

A promising weather forecast can see us setting off at short notice. A phone call to Ye Olde Crown at the strangely named Waterhouses village meant we were soon booked in for a one night stay. So we could look forward to a couple of days exploring the local area. We arrived around mid day meeting up with Jeff who welcomed us and swiftly showed us our room. Be warned- the stairs are quite steep- but we managed to negotiate them safely though would recommend taking your time especially when coming down!. The recently redecorated room was lovely, light and airy, and most attractive. A nice room in which to relax especially for short time after Sunday lunch! We chose this ,as no evening meals on this day, (2 or 3 courses from limited displayed menu). However we enjoyed it, with ample quantities and plenty of fresh veg. We made coffee in our room as facilities were provided which was appreciated. We found plenty to do around and about especially pottering along quiet rural roads and enjoying stunning English scenery. Don,t miss The Roaches....if elderly (like us) drive around with frequent stops but it is real walking country and tracks and trails must cater for all ages! We loved our surprise stop to view the resident peregrine falcon family with expert help and info from local wildlife experts. We slept so well, had a great breakfast-especially cooked for us by owner Mark- and finally left to enjoy another day exploring. Thanks to all of you and good luck with your plans for the future. If you are looking for a pub stop over then here's just the place!

We have been travelling the British Isles and we were recommended by a friend of ours to try the Ye Olde Crown while we stayed in the Peak District. I will be thanking our friend when we return home to the States. We had dinner there and it was some of the best English food we have had and, Mark the landlord, was an excellent host. He explained the beers and let us sample them. Thank you for a great evening. We will definitely be recommending the Ye Olde Crown to our friends if they are travelling to the UK and I also understand that they do rooms as well.

We stayed in Waterhouses for three nights and ate at this venue on two of the evenings. The food was fantastic and priced at a very reasonable rate. The stand in relief manager (Ray) was first class. The banter from the moment we arrived to the farewells on Friday evening had us in stitches. Seriously though if in the area this pub is certainly worth visiting as the food and ales were first class. Even the posh Carling Grolsch was very thirst quenching. Many thanks to Ray James and Alice

Lovely part of the world. Used to be my local pub 30 years ago. Pub has a good selection of beers. No wine by the glass but the small bottle of red was very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good carpark just over the bridge. Please make the outside a little more appealing (tidy)

Service is very slow. Fish and chips mediocre. Chips were salty and underdone and tepid but didn't complain as no one came to check and we waited about 45 mins for the food. One fish was good the other was hard at the end. Mini puddings and tea were nice and server was friendly. Also thought expensive but you can get lunch deals but not on Friday when we went. Ambience is nice but we won't return.

We had the pleasure of having our wedding here, planned within 12 weeks and couldn't have been any more perfect. Great communication and support throughout the planning and exceptional service on the day. The food was amazing and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. Rooms were comfortable and the breakfast was superb. Amazing location. Mr and Mrs Prince❤️
