The Talbot in Staffordshire Moorlands

Service is very slow. Fish and chips mediocre. Chips were salty and underdone and tepid but didn't complain as no one came to check and we waited about 45 mins for the food. One fish was good the other was hard at the end. Mini puddings and tea were nice and server was friendly. Also thought expensive but you can get lunch deals but not on Friday when we went. Ambience is nice but we won't return.

Lovely place in nice surroundings and staff were so friendly especially Daisy and the food was delicious cooked by Rachel I believe.

Being a local for 20 years I've seen the good and bad off the Talbot in that time !!! But the new manager and his staff deserve a massive pat on there backs and can certainly recommend food and drinks and atmosphere 5 stars

Such a cosy atmosphere with the fires lit. Lovely pitstop mid-walk with hungry kids and dogs. We will definitely be stopping by again for lunch.

Steak burger was lovely, good quality food and Chrissy and Nick made us feel very welcome. Will be coming back again, highly recommended

I’ve had the pleasure of being served by Daisy several times at the pub, and she is absolutely fantastic at her job. Daisy was so welcoming, friendly, and goes out of her way to ensure everyone feels comfortable. Her attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple tasks, all while maintaining a positive attitude, is truly impressive. She’s knowledgeable about the menu and drink options, offering great recommendations that have enhanced my experience each time. Daisy's customer service is top-notch, and she always ensures that everyone has a great time. Got my schnitzel with no barbecue sauce as asked perfectly and it was great. Highly recommended!

We had a server named christy. What a well mannered lady. Joined in on conversation had all the time needed. Also an amazing well done to the chef absolutely amazing food can't complain about a thing. Fantastic

Went to The Talbot for a Sunday lunch yesterday and the food tasted amazing! Special shoutout to Ashton and Helen for such a lovely meal 😊 Also, thankyou to Rosie for such lovely service. I will definitely be visiting again in the near future!

Nice friendly staff, excellent service and a good portion of food

Sadly really really slow service, waited over an hour for mains and then painfully slow for any other form of service e.g never offered more drinks, no table check back, had to chase the bill, left with the table covered in plates. Team seem young and inexperienced.

@vintage_inns It took 40 minutes to get the soup starter and the then two mains by 3.30pm, two hours on site Food in fairness was excellent but two hours is simply not good enough. Not even an apology or complimentary soft drink for the delay and some guff when arrived that had and influx and we are on the tail end of it now which simply with a two HOUR wait for food was not true so we were misled. Such a shame as a lovely venue, fabulous food but the service in our last three visits has been dismal and alas this is the last chance from to pull it back. We’ll have to look elsewhere in the future.

The Sunday dinner was amazing, lovely pub, friendly. Thanks to Ryan, Steph, Gugu and the rest of the team. Will definitely be back

Visited this place for the first time for food! I had a lovely lunch and was served by daisy who was amazing, welcoming and very polite! Also spectacular food cooked by GuGu. The chicken and smoked pancetta pie was tasty. Will be happy to visit again 😊

We eat here quite regularly, the food is always very good and excellent value for money obviously the standards were set high. It’s lovely and relaxed, we always enjoy coming here. However we were out with friends again last night and a little disappointed with the food : The red wine was very cold again instead of at room temperature like it usually is. We had the same starter we had on Sunday- prawns and chorizo only this time I only got 3 prawns instead of 5 and the red chilli wasn’t cooked just placed on the top. My partner had steak pie with, mash and vegetables, this time it was a smaller amount of mash without the chives etc that it usually has and the steak was dry and overcooked it also used to have lots of gravy inside the pie but didn’t last night. I had sea bass but this time the skin was quite soggy instead of crispy and less beans with it. The food wasn’t as hot as it usually is either. We were told there had been a change of management and they had a new chef who’s is much better but that didn’t reflect the meals we had unfortunately ☹️

Really excellent food and service, our waitress Christy was so helpful and helped my husband pick a gluten free option which can sometimes be difficult when eating out so we really appreciated her help.

Came to the Talbot after a chilly walk with the dogs, and it was just what we needed! The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, the food was absolutely delicious and the service was great - thank you Daisy! Great selection on the menu and ample parking. Would recommend to anyone.

All food is cooked to perfection & presented well. Prices are in line with other pub meals, a little pricey for the amount served, but not over indulgent. Never disappointed in any of the regularly changed Menu's, although it's a pity that Steak is never an option. It has quite a large indoor area from which to choose where to sit and a small outdoor area by the main entrance on the quiet road, opposite the Car Park. Can't say if The Talbot is very busy at Weekends as we've only visited Mon-Thurs evenings. Perfect for a decision to "eat out" without booking. All food is cooked to perfection & presented well. Friendly staff seem happy in their job roles & service with a smile is a given. Very Dog 🐶 Friendly, even a jar of biscuit treats as you enter the pub. For those not liking dogs, there's lots of Dog Free areas to choose from. Enjoy!!

Daisy served us and was very pleasant and chatting to us. Relaxed atmosphere We called for Sunday Lunch. Food was very nicely Presented and taste was lovely, A nice pub to call in after visiting Biddulph Grange Country Park Overall a lovey experience will be calling again.

Everything on the menu out of stock! Garlic mushrooms with cheese sauce contained no garlic. Chicken burger was burnt with no chilli jam and very bland!

I thought Chrissy (my server) was great. She was very attentive and accommodating during my visit. She made a mistake with my wine by bringing out the wrong one but corrected it at the first opportunity on her own accord. Chrissy's service was the best I have received in a long time and I have visited many restaurants including high-end ones

We were in the dog friendly area and the place was full, even at 6pm. Food always great and with the Vintage Inn app offers very good value for money. Large free car park opposite the pub, so no problem with access.

I came in with my family and upon arrival I couldn’t see any staff that were not busy to seat us at our pre booked table. I could see what seem to be the manager just sitting and watching other staff struggling with the workload. As soon as I asked to be seated as I had been waiting for 10 minutes at this point, the manager came over with no care in the world and sat us down. Already I was frustrated with the lack of service as it took an extra 15 minutes just to get our drinks ordered by the manager. The food came out practically disassembled and falling off the plate, it was a complete disaster. After we ate, we left swiftly and definitely won’t be coming back again, terrible

Well if the staff hadn’t have been bribed into leaving 5 star reviews for the pub then the place would have been shut down. Speaking as a previous member of management. I joined Vintage Inns from a private business in hope that I would progress into managing my own place with them one day. Unfortunately I struck unlucky with the manager I was employed by, Ella. Quickly realising this after 2 weeks, she was a totally different person to work for than she was during my interview process! Attitude from hell and treated me like I was one of her minions! The staff receive zero training and zero support from her. These guys are not to blame for the problems that are going on and any professional manager would accept responsibility for these issues and sort them out. The hygiene is shocking, coffee tasting bitter due to the machine never being thoroughly cleaned. The ice machine and glass wash, both filthy and again not being cleaned. I have never seen the lines get cleaned once, the ales coming out cloudy and tasting strange.! The management has failed the staff here and this shows from all the bad reviews from unhappy guests! Especially failed me! The staff leaving 5* reviews speaks for itself. The locals who have been coming in for years have also been failed with some stating it’s the worst they have ever seen, the place is barely hanging together. Assistant manager getting screamed at by Ella after working a 15hr shift (3 weeks into the job) in front of another member of staff, completely undermining my authority and so unprofessional. Normally I wouldn’t mention names but I feel this is completely necessary as the person in mention is the only one person who let’s the place down with her main focus being her daughter, the head chef and not the business.

We had a great lunch,we can recommend the chickenstickt crispy and the duck and housing pizza. The service was impeccable with staff forever smiling .Will return again soon.

Today we were served by the lovely Daisy who was very attentive and smiley. Nothing was too much trouble and we look forward to coming again. Food was lovely and freshly cooked. Really lovely country pub! Staff were exceptionally friendly and kind - a big thank you to our server Daisy! So nice to see crumble on the menu. Definitely recommend after a lovely walk in the local area!

Disappointing food, good service. Service was universally super; welcome, order taking, checking back, food delivery all friendly and cheerful and attentive. But there was something wrong in the kitchen, waited an hour for roast dinner which was only ok on average; aubergine gratin, sea bass and belly pork good, but bad roast potatoes (had maybe been deep fried and were certainly oily tasting), vegetable wellington almost so dried out under a heat lamp at one end as to be inedible, brocoli and cabbage over cooked to sogginess. Perhaps the chef was off and things are normally better. But I think we’re very unlikely to go back.

Really nice pub dogs allowed to which is great, food was expensive for what portions we had and took some time to come too. We where all waiting on drinks for more than half an hour, we booked for 13 of us and there was plenty of space, staff were nice and happy to help didn’t like the bill at the end of the night as there was an extra £40 for service charge on top should of had a takeaway dinner would of been cheaper,The bill came to more then £300 so if you are looking for cheap don’t go a small coke was £2.50

Me and my partner had such a lovely evening here! We don’t often go out to eat but decided to treat ourselves and we were not disappointed! The chef even cooked myself another pizza as he wasn’t quite happy with the size of the first one. This just showed me that they really care about the food and service that they are providing.

Booked in for Sunday lunch. This use to be our date pub but not been for over a year due to bad food last time we went. I had read it had new Management and a make over so we thought we would give it another try. Arrived and shown to our table ordered drinks and was told by the waitress food would be 20 mins which was fine. She came back 10 mins later to say food would be at least 45 mins. We decided not to wait. The waitress seemed as though this was the norm. As we paid for our drink and walked out through the pub we noticed hardly anyone had food and all seemed to be waiting. Very disappointed and Will unfortunately not return

I would have given this place 0 stars if I could. We waited over an hour for our food, and when we asked for a refund we were laughed at and then quite quickly told “no” from a server who’s attitude was just as terrible as the “fast” service. Do not go to this place AT ALL! The customer service was shocking and the air for food is terrible.

I met a friend here for lunch. It was lovely...good food ( soup of the day, gammon eggs and wonderful chips and apple and blackberry crumble) attentive and friendly service and a good atmosphere.

Why is your food so unbelievable random? I have the same thing and it is often not great but sometime lovely. I came the other week and the pizza was great so brought people from out of town and it was shocking! Pizzas were definitely shop bought small and awful, one persons salad had a slug it! I used to have the vegetable pizza that was supposed to have butternut squash on, from the 11 times I had it it never once had butternut squash, tonight the pepperoni was supposed to have red chillies on and had none and wasn’t spicy, neither pizza had been hand stretched or stone baked, they were clearly shop bought

We didn't have any food on this visit. However, we would have had a desert but there was not enough staff on, which seems to be a regular occurance! What a shame.

Just had a ploughmans lunch. It was the worst ploughmans lunch I have ever had. It consisted of 1 small piece of cheese when normally there are 3 or 4 different cheeses a scotch egg apple a bit of lettuce and some pickle. There was no crusty cob bread and no usual salad trimmings. It was served on a 10inch plate but a 6inch plate would have been too big. I will not be recommending it to my friends.

Went for a late lunch on a Bank Holiday Monday. The staff behind the bar were rushed off their feet, but were still really friendly and helpful. Special thanks to the young lady with long blonde hair and the young man behind the bar who worked non stop and weren’t phased by but were really polite to customers who were irritated that food orders couldn’t be taken till 3pm because the kitchen was too busy. (We were sitting near the bar, a good vantage place.) The food was lovely, when it eventually arrived, but the wait was too long, at least 40 minutes for 2 sandwiches. Incidentally, kitchen service suddenly seemed to speed up, and we wondered if the chef had suddenly returned from a lunch break or they had got someone else in to help. Management needs to up its game.

Great food but service a little lacking and at 9pm on a Friday night there was zero atmosphere - we were the only ones in there!

Food was fantastic and came out in good time, even though it was fairly busy. Taylor, our waiter, was extremely professional and looked after us during the experience. I will be back again very soon!

Food was excellent, there was a snafu with our drinks but this was rectified by the staff. I can definitely recommend the Sunday Trio on their Sunday menu, but it doesn't leave much room for dessert!

Lovely waiter served us, the meat was of a very good quality, and the presentation was beautiful but some of the veg was a little firm and my pie was quite hollow. Worth trying for yourself as it's a popular place but I'd recommend booking in advance as the dog-friendly part of the pub was fully booked.

Just had an evening meal to celebrate my mums birthday. There was 6 adults, 3 children and a baby on a Sunday. Served by Taylor who was very attentive and friendly. Had three courses, and everyone enjoyed their meal, no complaints at all. Really lovely experience thank you!

Food was very good and server Taylor was very friendly and helpful. Just seemed a bit slow on service, it would have been fine with just the 6 adults but with 3 children with us they were getting bored. But would still recommend.

I am not a fan of English cuisine but the food here was amazing! Staff service was incredibly friendly and efficient - one of the best I experienced in UK so far. Very dog and kid friendly. If you ever travel to/near Biddulph, you must stop by here for a meal and drinks!
