Excellent pie and chips. Great location for a few beers by the canal side

Lovely food, but our groups food was brought out in bits, so we had people still waiting for food after some had finished eating.

A very pleasant lunch outside in the sunshine. We ordered fish & chips, all beautifully cooked with a very attractive salad on the side. The fish was enormous! The young man who delivered our food could not do enough to help, he had a lovely personality and was very obliging.

Steak pie was delicious and served with red cabbage, carrots and broccoli - fish and chips served with garden peas and lovely side salad - outstanding value for money- motorhome parking free - staff very friendly and accommodating- definitely a place worth visiting- walks and cycling along canal beautiful 🤩

Food & service was excellent bit pricey though for a pub

It is a beautiful pub in the countryside with polite staff and wonderful food. I had the 28 Day Matured Dunwood Steak 20oz for £27.50 and it was cooked to perfection, worth every peny. The chips and onionrings were outstanding, golden, and crispy. The mushrooms were also cooked to perfection. 10/10 will recommend and come again 🔥🔥💯🎉🍺🎊🥳🪅 Thank you The Hollybush Inn. 😊

Called in just for a quick drink as we had half n hour to pass, this was the first pub we came too. Looked ok from the outside and car park appeared to be busy . (Don’t know where all the people were as it was empty inside from what we could see) Felt really dirty and dusty once inside. The lady behind the bar seemed unwelcoming. Practically slammed the drink down on the bar that my partner had ordered . No smiles, no conversation . Should’ve just walked out really . Decided to sit outside. The same lady came out to clear some glasses from the tables and she was smoking . It just didn’t look good . Definitely wouldn’t recommend

Lovely old traditional pub in a picturesque setting. Popped in on the offchance without booking on a warm Wednesday lunchtime in August. Plenty of tables available and service at the bar was swift and pleasant. Food was excellent quality - I went for steak and my other half had a burger with garlic bread on the side and a pint of really tasty and well kept guest beer. The food is all freshly cooked and so there was a short wait between ordering and getting food, but nothing excessive and well worth it. Total for both of us with drinks was just over £50 which given I had steak is good value.

Terrible food. The stuffed Nachos tasted like they had been stuffed with leftovers from Chilli and Lasagne. The batter on the cod was hard and the fish was dry. The salad was not fresh. The place was dirty. The first menu I picked up still had food on it from the lunchtime meal. The carpet had a snail trail beneath our table and was absolutely filthy. Needless to say I won't be returning again

Very nice pub, canalside with excellent food but limited beer choices. Very busy at time of our visit, but friendly staff coped very well.

A lovely place to sit out in the sun and watch the canal boats sail past, food was good, had a little bit of a wait but perfect chance to relax. Baby change in female toilet only.

Just had a wonderful special: lamb kebab with flat bread, salad and coleslaw. Delicious and surprisingly not overdone. Multicultural harmony on one plate!

Went as a spur of the moment visit as passing through. Food was really nice, expecting a lite bite and got quite a big meal which tasted great. Drinks were great, everywhere was really clean including outdoor seating area. Drinks were lovely and service was great

The Landlady and her staff are fantastic. There is also a small grass area where you can park up for the night. They are dog-friendly as well.

Overpriced Average Food!!! Lovely pub right next to the canal. Staff very good and service good. Drinks are not cheap but you are paying for the surroundings really and no pubs are cheap these days. We found the food, however, to be very overpriced and not good I'm afraid. We would go for a drink again here but not for food. I'm sure they aren't on their own by overcharging for food but still. Definitely not value for money on the food side

Food was excellent the desert was light Alabama chocolate fudge cake delicious. Would recommend to family and friends. Staff were fantastic helpful and polite 👍 Been again today with wife and stepson another fantastic tasty meal staff are brilliant 👏. Been again with great friends had another fantastic experience. £14 Sunday roast not as big as usual had chips as a side £4, ate our meal before daughter in law and sons came down and stuffing was just still dried breadcrumbs in the centre, always been there but not again.

Let down big style, booked a table 5 days in advance for my mums birthday for 9 people. Arrived, restaurant area was disgraceful, just told the tables we were on, 2 different tables!!!, not set up, not cleaned, I ended putting the tables together etc.. Looked at menu, limited, jackets, cold, baps, hot baps or pizza. No phone call to let us know, didn't even tell us when we arrived. The woman behind the bar was extremely rude. We quickly gathered our things, told them sorry but we are going else where. Unfortunately seems to have gone down hill, such ashame as we went here alot.

After waiting 1 hour 15 minutes walked out we booked a table but that meant nothing.

Well deserved five star review. Excellent pint of Guinness and the steak pie with veg and chips was exceptional. If you're ever passing stop by and try it for yourself you won't regret it. Great countryside views out the front as well.

This was poor. Microwaved food. I don’t think anything is freshly prepared apart from the salad. That’s the reason why it was empty and the Travellers Rest which we tried to book was full on a Monday. £14 for lasagne and chips isn’t a bargain. Sorry but you need to improve or just rely on the boating community.

We stopped over here for the night as a first time trial night in our campervan(on a Monday). Donna and Bill were very welcoming to both of us and our 2 doggies. The stopover was free as long as you ate in the pub which was great. The food was good quality home made grub at a reasonable price. Beware if you're tempted to up-spice your chicken tikki though lol😳 a very welcoming pint of iced water 💧 😄 was promptly suggested and supplied by Donna. The beers are good quality not the normal run of the mill stuff. Loved the Erdinger 🍻. Thanks both we'll see you again soon

Had great memories of this place 20 yrs ago, used to visit quite often and have Sunday lunch which was delicious!! Still a fantastic setting obviously but the food wws a real let down ended up settling for the lasagne which was clearly a microwave job in a tiny dish it tasted of nothing and was burnt on the top it was served up with pre frozen veg and a handful of undercooked frozen chips. just not good enough. such a let down after having fond memories of how good the food used to be. left really disappointed. doubt its a sign of the times and things change has most of the pubs in n around that area still do the same fantastic food they have always done.

Myself and family all had steaks mushrooms online rings peppercorn sauce I was in early had glass red wine from bottle corked and later had it with my dinner a very enjoyable evening dog friendly as well busy pub beside the canals lots of walkers cyclists jiggers Leek was just so pretty we stayed at No 6 hollybush cottage fabulous 4 nights open coal fire PsStuff at pub lovely too a special thanks to Julie and staff Xx

Beautiful, great scenery, good for both kids and dogs but would watch out for the price as they are a tiny bit expensive, never had bad service in the 8+ years I've been going, great place.

Dropped into the Hollybush on Sunday without a table booking. We were fortunate, there was an unreserved table so we were soon seated and were pleased to learn dogs are welcome throughout. The full menu was available but we were there for Sunday lunch. I enjoyed it so much, I said I’d put it on Tripadvisor. It was piping hot, there were seven different vegetables plus two types of potatoes, the beef was good, the gravy delicious and the horseradish sauce had a good kick! My husband had sticky toffee pudding to finish, it was a good portion and was admired by the adjacent table! A very nice afternoon, thank you.

A lovely pub, in a nice location. Ideal for walking off your Sunday lunch. Yet again, on our third visit to this pub, the food was excellent. One of us had chicken, and the other a nut roast. Lovely. Staff are friendly and helpful and you can take your dog too. Highly recommended.

Lovely canal side pub. In the summer lots of outdoor seating for drinking in the sun. Inside space is quite tight with several “snugs” in the bar area but more restaurant space at the back. Good hearty food. Dogs welcome.

This is the second time we have been here, summer and winter. The food and service is excellent, allways a warm welcome. A lovely homely pub right by the canal. Got to be one of the nicest hot beef sandwiches anywhere.

Absolutely brilliant pub , lovely canal side position with a great vista of fields and trees , superb collection of beers , real ales , Erdinger on tap ! , bottles of a decent red wine £18 , very dog friendly , great for kids with a fantastic play area with loads of seating for adults around the back , go to the front and sit by the canal , watch the boats and chat to the friendly locals , staff very friendly and service is quick , the cleanest pub we’ve seen , always cleaning the place , mowing the lawns and jet washing the floors and tables , straight into our top 10 pubs in the country and if you read my other reviews you can see we go to ( and review ) plenty , a credit to the owners

Lovely location and friendly staff. Seemed to be very Dog friendly. I had a burger and chips, chips were lovely but the burger was average at best. Had an awful insipid coffee, which surprised me, tasted like the grounds had been used already!

I came in solo after boating all day on the canal & was pleasantly surprised with how busy it was for a Thursday night. Two sides to pub. A restaurant side which looked modern and then the other side a traditional pub with lovely furnishings and decor. The staff was super friendly & the owner gave me lots of advise on the area & even offered to post my post cards that I had written out as there was not a post box close by. The food was delicious & I will make sure I come back to this place for another visit and I don’t live locally. Thank you for looking after me. Jamie

Lovely location and has a play park. We have visited a few times for these reasons. But, the food is average and poor value, landlord is particularly gruff and surly.

Pub fairly quiet but seemed to take a while for the food to arrive. When the food did arrive only average & only one serving behind the bar so taking a while to get served. Wouldn't rush back.

What a brilliant pub. We called in with our New Zealand friends and enjoyed both the food and beer. I chose a steak and ale pie, and it was truly exceptional with loads of tender steak in it and 4 perfectly cooked fresh veg with it. As a real ale fan, it was great to see the selection on offer. I was too full to have a pudding, but they looked great!

What a little gem on the canal! Walk from Endon or from Cheddleton along the canal and you'll come across the lovely pub. It serves good pub food, the usual type of menu with decent sized portions and great flavours too. I had the Steak and Ale pie and the wife had the Gammon and Egg. Both really tasty, washed down with a good selection of Beers and Lager. The nearby chocolate box cottages and rolling countryside make this a beautiful atmosphere to enjoy a pint after a dog walk. The whole pub being dog friendly. Recommended

The Sunday roast was excellent.

Don’t bother, much nicer places around. Miserable owners/staff from the moment we walked in. Arrived after completing a charity event, 6pm us walked in at 12 noon and I asked if there was a table available however appreciating we hadn’t pre-booked. The guy (landlord maybe) just bluntly said, yeah any table without a reservation on it and left us to it. No hello, welcome, let me check the tables with you etc, nothing, I knew at that point we should have left and gone elsewhere. Managed to find a large table outside, I needed to take 2 chairs from a small (unreserved) table inside to accommodate the 6 of us. The small old lady with shirt blonde hair gave a look of disgust although wasn’t willing to help or offer alternatives. Food ordered and came to the table served by the same lady, crikey a smile was out of the question! We all agreed the food was popping hot and good portions but so so bland, tasteless pie, boiled tasteless veg, and bland chicken, none of us would waste time travelling here again ever! I mean £14 for a pie main meal is cheap but even still I wouldn’t bother. Beware of the hundreds of wasps outside around the sitting area!

Celebrated our sons birthday. Four dinners OK, my Ceasar Sallad a joke. No bacon, no bread croutons, no romaine lettuce, no sliced grilled chicken. No reaction when I complained. If you ever consider to order a Ceasar Sallad at the Hollybush Inn, I suggest you do something better with your money, e.g. through them in the nearby canal.

Burger was lukewarm and the cheese was just a slice of cold cheese on top. For £15 I expected a bit more effort. Wetherspoons is better and half the price. Shame as it's a lovely location.

Great on all accounts, real home cooked food too. Go Lmost every week. go!!!

Lovly quiet pub by canalside and really friendly staff 15.04.22 visited again new menu which is still nice and lovely beer and staff as last time, again 01.06.2023 food and beer great and excellent staff. Again as always food, beer and atmosphere 100% visited 02.09.2023 and will keep on coming back 😀
