It feels cliquey here in the last 6 months. We have been here a few times; more and more we have noticed a feeling of irritating the staff and owner by simply being here, behaving well and spending money. There seems to be a crowd of their mates at the bar waiting for lock-ins. Paying customers will be treated with close to contempt if attempting to spend money from half 10pm, a total lack of basic courtesy. Buy a large house if you just want to accommodate your friends. The food is OK but the salads have been awful two times in a row, just mixed leaves and some protein.

Arrived after a hard day riding roller coasters at a nearby attraction. Staff were very friendly, and we sat next to a warm and welcoming wood burner. Order arrived quickly and was very good. Pizza was excellent and a lovely pot of tea and fizzy pop for the kids. I hope the ceiling hasn't fallen down.

The chicken and steak kababs were below average. For the price, £17 each, I'd expect something that didn't looked less appealing than a takeaway. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was OK but felt clicky.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal here on Saturday night whilst staying at the very nearby Alton Towers Hotel. As a group of 7 we were very well looked after, everyone enjoyed everything about their meals (pie of the day, fish and chips and the chicken kebab). Also, dessert was a highlight (namely the biscoff cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding). I would definitely recommend this pub if you are visiting Alton Towers, it’s 5 minutes away and we couldn’t fault it. Very reasonably priced too.

Staying at the cbeebies land hotel, and didn't fancy gambling on their restaurant. Thank god I didn't. Bulls Head offers an absolutely brilliant menu, it's not often I can't choose due to the variety of options. The food itself was fantastic quality, and a real feed. Not the usual pub slop. A great pub, with great staff and food. If you're at one of Alton Towers hotels, it's literally a 7 minute drive. Absolutely worth it.

Good food which arrived quickly. The restaurant was quiet, three tables occupied when we arrived at 7:30. After our main we waited 15 mins for our plates to be cleared and to order dessert / more drinks. Eventually I went to the bar and collected menus, telling the three staff who were chatting there (two eating at the bar) that we were going to order dessert. Further 15 mins without anyone coming to our table we paid and left. Perhaps two paying customers in the entire place at that point. Multiple tables uncleared in the restaurant and with tips left uncollected. Shame, it's a nice place with good food but perhaps avoid Sunday evening for a meal.

We had a family meal here after visiting Alton Towers. Parking is VERY limited, surrounding area is very narrow too. Lovely and quaint though. The pub itself is nice and rustic. The staff were lovely, one guy in particular was very bubbly and had good banter. I’m sorry I didn’t get his name. I think overall the good was ok. Nothing to rave about. I didn’t particularly like mine (pasta Alfredo) tasteless and bland. Everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs. All in all, nice staff, good location (parking is pants), food ok.

Harvester nuance at gastro pub prices. Bland tagliatelle that when asking for a pepper mill and Parmesan to try to give it any flavour got presented with sachet pepper and packet Parmesan. Same with sauces all sachets. Overcooked margarita children’s pizzas and incredibly slow service to the point after 15 minutes of everyone finishing I had to ask at the bar for the table to be cleared. A very disappointing experience never to be repeated

Had high hopes for this place. We’d booked to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we left very disappointed and a little upset. Granted, we didn’t complain at the time because it was a special day for us so we wanted to carry on our evening and left as soon as we’d somewhat ate the food. The biggest disappointment was asking for the pie of the day at 6.40pm (when we ordered our food) to be told it’s not available today. We were so shocked when just 10 minutes later the table next to us got seated and they were told the pie of the day would be available in 10 minutes so if they wanted to order it they’d be a bit of a wait! We instantly felt annoyed as it was the same server that served us! When we asked for the pie it would had been nice to have been told the same thing and given the same option, it didn’t help that every table after us got told about the pie of the day to rub it in. My husband was so disappointed as he wanted it to be a lovely rare night out for us but this instantly made him angry. Which is also why I told him to not complain as he was so angry I thought it best we just leave! We ordered the chicken & steak kebabs instead which my husband didn’t eat his at all as it was very processed tasting (and not the pie he wanted). The fries were nice though. I ate some of mine but it had chunky carrot & courgettes in which in my opinion just didn’t go and were very hard to chew as they were rock hard. The only nice thing was the decoration of this place was beautiful. It could be an amazing pub but we weren’t impressed with the service we received or the food. A memorable occasion that won’t be a nice memory for us sadly so won’t be returning.

The staff were extremely attentive, they brought us the menu and took our drinks order. Choosing what dish to have was the hard part. Everyone else's s food in the restaurant looked delicious ! After some deliberation, i went for the chicken and steak shashlik kebab with seasonal veg and chips. It was beautiful ! And we weren't waiting long either. I would 100% recommend this place and suggest you book a table to avoid disappointment. You might want to walk, as the carpark is small.

Being Italian and not British, we had no intention of eating In the poorly rated alton towers resort restaurants. We found this place rated as it is at 4.6. Boy was it worth it. To begin with, the place is clean and the atmosphere is fab with the old school pub decor and fixtures. Emma attended us well and we ordered the flat bread with hummus, the chicken wings and then we had the chicken and steak kebab. Our little son with non verbal autism had a cheeseburger he demolished, when he usually only eats half of everything. Before even main course came, we had Emma, the server book for us for the same time tomorrow....EAT HERE! ALL DELISH!

Superb food and local IPA, Highly recommend if in the area hiking or staying at one of the resorts nearby. This pub seem’s sleepy from the outside but when letting yourself through the door, you’ll find a bright and polished tavern. Great menu, friendly staff on hand, order at the bar, service is snappy if orders in early (before 7)…the feel of the restaurant extends somewhat into the bar which is where we chose to sit and enjoyed to have the bar in view and see people come and go. Would like to have stayed there later when the pub would have really turned into a pub and would have become more lively than it was. Alton is a sleepy village after all but I have no doubt the Bulls head is it’s beating heart late into the evening!

Despite not being too busy, we had to wait 50 minutes for food. The staff were really friendly and gave us a free round, but the wait was really long and we were left waiting for drinks for quite a while too. Food was a mixed bag, and averaged out at about okay. The kebab was good but the beef burger wasn’t great. Overall wouldn’t rush back, I’d recommend one of the other local pubs instead.

Just awful booked a table for 5 well in advance and we got sat at a table that could just about fit 4 in the corner. Asked to be moved so we had more room or a small table to be added at end they said sorry we are to busy, so clearly over booked. Waited an hour for our food which I can best describe as 2 out of 5 was correct. Processed chicken near raw bacon over salted pasta and best of all we asked for pizza with very little cheese, guess what they made it with extra cheese. When we pointed this out the very rude waitress said well I did tell them lees cheese. When we said well they clearly haven’t done that can you re make it please she said well you’ll have to wait as we are very busy. Many other issues that evening to go into. And to top it all no toilet paper in Mens toilets had to ask for a roll. I’d recommend just AVOIDING!!

When we walked in it took a while for us to be seen to and from the start I felt like an inconvenience. We sat and waited to be served and 3 other tables came in, the server came through and took all their orders and bypassed us. I went to the bar to ask if they could also take our order please. The food was ok. Later we asked for the dessert menu, the server said they'd come and take our order but didn't appear. They took the table next to ours order and then burst into tears and left (not sure what happened) we went to check the server was ok but were met with the original server who again made us feel like we were a real inconvenience, so we settled up the bill and decided to leave. We had a friendly greeting and soon as we walked in. Food: the nachos were drowning in cheese and toppings (fantastic 😍). We then had the single adult burger, and I can tell you it was massive. Loads of cheese, bacon, salad topping and crispy onion rings. We didn't need a double 🤣 Atmosphere: I'm here on a Monday just past 7pm. Booked a table for 12:15. Arrived and the place looked shut, both doors shut and front door locked. The chairs were still on the tables from the night before. Greeted (if you can call it that) by a rather unwelcoming member of staff, who looked like she’d rather be anywhere else and then proceeded to complete doing her make up in the back of the bar rather than giving us menus. The tables were filthy, the floors had not been swept from the night before and the couches covered in dog hair. It had a smell in the air of wet dog and chip fat and the bar area was dark, and uninviting. The whole time we were there they didn’t put any music on in the background which meant we could hear the cross words had between the staff (awkward to say the least). The waitress did warm up as time went on and was a little more friendly to the few diners that arrived after us. Considering we booked a table for the restaurant area that’s where we should have been seated. Food was average and not worth the price, as there was no music we could hear the microwave for the lasagne. I don’t normally write reviews however I feel the need as hopefully the establishment will reflect and improve for others, especially when the website etc make it look so appealing. People parting with their hard earned money during these times deserve better.

We were staying at Alton Towers Splash Landing hotel and they decided to close the restaurant that evening. We had 2 very hungry kids and clicked the first pub we came across on google and called to make a booking. It was less than a 5 minute drive and parking directly outside or the rear of the pub. It’s a beautiful cosy little pub. The food was INCREDIBLE, both myself and my husband had the double beef burger and we’ve both said it’s the best burger we’ve EVER had- we’ve even discussed a day trip back up to the area just to eat that burger again. The kids had a ‘mini’ pizza each which could have easily have fed an hungry adult, it was super tasty. Pudding were beautiful too, we had a cheesecake and a couple of chocolate brownies. The service was brilliant, very attentive and friendly. The bill came to a lot less than what we would have paid for a buffet at our hotel. HIGHLY recommend popping in for some gorgeous food if you’re in the area. You won’t regret it. They also show the football (if that’s what you’re into!) Arrived to be informed multiple items on the menu were not available. Ordered food and was advised there were no peas so offered carrots as an alternative (after suggesting many other items which weren’t in stock either). 45 minutes later we were then advised carrots weren’t available either. Waited over an hour for food with no one coming to the table during this time. Had to find someone to order olives as the children were hungry. Don’t have the ‘kebab’ £15 for a couple of pieces of chicken Schawarma and fries. The meal is advertised as coming with Slaw and salad - none of this arrived, assume these were other items not in stock. Only reasons given from the pub were they had a big table in and no delivery until tomorrow. No compensation offered - birthday experience ruined, really poor!

We were staying at Alton Towers and were appalled at their buffet price and food quality (£80.30 for their buffet for 2 adults and 2 young kids…who eat about 3 mouthfuls of food normally for one evening visit), so decided to support a local pub/restaurant for our second night. Visited here after googling local pubs and were delighted with our visit. Friendliness of staff and food quality/portions/value for money/hygiene…everything was excellent. Lovely welcome from the lady on the bar, good friendly banter (although you must spend more time in inverness next visit to scotland!) and the waiter too. Fab. Couldn’t ask for more…and I’m v fussy!🤦♀️. 10/10. (And just an observation but that evening I saw 3 other tables at the pub/restaurant eating here and like us staying at Alton towers ….says a lot).

Went with a large group for my mums birthday and it couldn’t have been better. Rhys and the staff were extremely accommodating and flexible with our booking. They also provided vegan options on request to make sure everyone in the group had a great evening. We even had our own room with our choice of music. Couldn’t have asked for a better evening thank you to the staff for being so friendly and making the whole evening really special. Will be back in a heartbeat!

We had been going to the Bulls Head when we visited Alton Towers over the last 20 years, first visit since reopening. Food so disappointing, food cold and a kebab with undercooked chicken, leeks and carrots !! If you want a coffee it will be from a Tassimo. Unfortunately on our next visit it will be for a drink only.

Lovely friendly staff, food was amazing and the bed rooms were beautiful. The rooms were just across the road . Only downside was the stairs were quite steep to the rooms. Well worth the climb though.

How this place has got 4.5 stars, we really don’t know. A lovely quaint pub, but that’s where it stops. It’s freezing, although had a nice log fire….. which had gone out. The staff were obviously looking to finish as it was getting late at 8.30 pm, so why bother keeping a lovely fire in. A starter of cheese nachos put in front of us to share. Guess we will be eating with our hands then!! No sharing plates, cutlery or napkins, just a load of sour cream, guacamole and salsa sauce spewed from cheap plastic bottles as opposed to something fresh. We opted for a rump steak kebab and small fish and chips. The kebab came with 2 thirds of the plate covered in chips and no cutlery. I eventually managed to get a knife and fork. I counted 3000 chips and gave up. The tiny bit of salad was saturated in some kind of salad dressing. I asked for more salad and was obliged, again saturated in dressing, like I’m incapable of putting my own on. My wife’s fish and chips was at best mediocre. On a positive, the beer was reasonable. Toilets were clean but half finished with sealants half done all over the place. Pretty much sums up the whole place, slapdash, with plenty of corners cut. Guessing the place just relies on those that visit the towers, as I can’t see many of the locals would set foot into place. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. Goes to show you can’t always trust a review.

As we walked in, greeted with smiles and asking how we are. Such a warm welcome. No tables available as was fully booked. But let us have a table near the bar so we could eat. We had the chicken kebabs and really enjoyed them, lovely sticky toffee pudding to finish. Decent choice of booze and great friendly service throughout. Both the lady and gent working this eve were fantastic.

Had a bigger expectation about food/atmosphere and it all was just ok. Booked table few days before and on arrival they said that we are in booked for Saturday rather then Friday night. Error thats easily done either by us/or staff that took the booking. To their credit this wasn't an issue and we were offered table promptly near fire place which was very welcomed as it was very cold. Lovely 2 x guys that served us, they were very polite. Unfortunately no pizza was served😐 nevertheless we ordered chicken and rump steak kebabs and they were just ok. Massive portion that consisted of chips mainly bit nice slaw nad salad. Strong cinnamon seasoning which can be nice however it was all you can taste towards the end of the meal. Had glass of Malbeck that smelled and tasted off, this was exchanged for a glass from "new bottle" that tasted the same. But that just might be not very nice Malbeck that they sell. Kids meals were good, puddings were good. No ketchup in bottle but little sachets instead which is just very basic/buffet style.Overall, just average meal that was not your "average" price. £80 per 2 x adult and 2 x kids

Have to change our previous review. New owners have changed the menu so it's mainly pizza. Fine I guess each person wants to do there own thing - disappointing as the previous menu was so good! First issue was the restaurant was freezing. We asked about heating/fire but we're told it's an old building so they can't get it to warm up. Strange as we've been coming here years and never had this issue before. Second issue was they aren't actually doing pizzas...wouldn't say how long it had been a problem but judging by another review I read it has been at least a week. Third issue was the quality of the food, and the managers attitude to us complaining. Our home cooked pies with hand cut chips were obviously microwaved and the chips were of the packet frozen variety. The kids food was very overcooked and cold but just about edible but the pies weren't. They didn't charge us foe the inedible pies we sent back and they didn't charge us for a coke and a larger which is the only reason they didn't get a 1 star. Such a shame as this used to be such a great place and to be fair the pizza looked like it would have been nice.

Our evening got off to bad start when we were seated in a very cold dining room on a chilly October night and were told they couldn't heat it as they had run out of fire wood. Then once seated we were told they had no pizzas available, which made up a large portion of the menu. The evening continued with service issues - one of our starters never turned up, we asked for a second round of drinks, which also never turned up and the Bolognese, was a bowl of congealed, inedible, over cooked pasta with some sauce poured over the top. My husband opted for the Lasagne and Garlic Bread and when he thought the bread tasted funny, he turned it over and it was covered in green mould and I don't just mean a couple of small spots, I mean absolutely covered. It was the most disgusting thing any of us had ever seen in a restaurant, we were shocked. I don't believe anyone in that kitchen could have taken that bread out of its packaging (or storage container) cooked it and plated it without noticing that it was completed covered in mould. Needless to say, they redid his meal and didn't charge us for it, but it left all of us feeling very queasy and very wary of the kitchen standards and what we were all eating. We were obviously not going to risk any desserts and left as soon as we could with my husband feeling very unwell.

Really disappointing. A mix up.with th1e reservation meant we were in a cold, unheated upstairs atea. Kids ordered pizzas, but turned out no pizzas available. They ordered burgers instead. Unfortunately, these were not fully cooked. After pointing this out to a team member, it was fully 10 minutes before they came by to see if we would like them replaced, or provide the side vegetables which were ordered but had never arrived. I couldn't fault our waitress who was clearly new and inexperienced, but very helpful and doing her best to help. She clearly had no support from senior figures. Ultimately, I had to argue with the senior staff member, who was reluctant to give any discount at all on the full price of the meal, despite serving kids raw burgers. The rest of the food was mediocre at best.

Visited on 8/10 after a visit to Splash Landings. Fantastic little pub. Catered for a large group, 23 of us. Nothing was too much trouble. Staff, food and surroundings 5 star. Would highly recommend. We will be back.

We called for a meal on the way home from Alton Towers, 6 adults and 3 children. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for us (The football was on but once it had finished the channel was swapped for us to watch the rugby World Cup) Clean plates all round. Good selection of food to choose from and fresh and home made. We will definitely call again if we are in the area.

A fantastic meal at the Bull's Head. We booked last minute on a Friday night for 12 people and they were so accommodating. They seated us upstairs so essentially we had a private area, they put music on for us and although we were out of sight the staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Thank you Bulls Head Team!

We are on holiday reviews for this place looked fab. We turned up were shown to our seats. No pizza available tonight sorry fair enough We didn't want pizza. We ordered nachos starter to share and it was lovely HOWEVER half way through our starter our main courses turned up. Now to be fair the staff did offer to take them away but they would have sat on a hot plate so we accepted them.Hubby had lasagne which looked lovely and he declared tasted lovely. I opted for steak kebab. It too was lovely but everything was hidden under the chips. The lady on the table next to me ordered steak kebab hers looked fab. Beautifully set out and chips in a separate container. Whilst I cannot fault the food it was lovely I felt rushed. It was a Monday night and several people had called saying they were stuck in traffic and would be 30 mins late. Staff said no worries we are not that busy. We weren't a walk in we booked in advance.

We reserved a table for a bank holiday Sunday night. Setting and decor is lovely, but surprised at the lack of menu options and availability. Table and menus instantly looked tired and dirty. Service was very slow and we had to ask to order desserts twice before anybody came to us. All night we felt like we were annoying the staff asking for service. Generally we felt in the way and we never ordered attitude. Sad because years gone by this pub was top notch.

Wow the master Potter what a transformation!!! Absolutely stunning 😍 and to top it off amazing service from sascha and ollie, the place still looks brand new the attention to detail is mind blowing!! The toilets smell like a spa and not a urine trap. The glass was polished to perfection and the toilets were spotless!! The outside 😍 is 100% a place I'd like to sit in when summer comes!! We had a sharing platter for starters! Tasted fantastic think it was tex mex or somthing was banging. However I think side plates should be provided with this! I had a medium rare serlion steak 😋 and 100% beat Miller and carter from the last time I went there! My mate had the burger of the month and couldn't stop saying wow it's juicy and flavoursome! So a massive well done to kitchen staff for this ❤️👌 well and truly worth the money we spent tonight. We're coming and bringing more friends next time
