Good home cooked food with an extensive dessert menu. We went on a Sunday evening and it was very quiet, but the food was good. Only complaint would be the veg was a little basic and could have been fresher. They have an enormous dessert menu all homemade which are definitely worth a look. Overall good value for money

After years of living locally we decided to finally try the ship for food, I really wish we hadn't. Briefly..... the surver was scruffy, very inattentive.... almost unaware we were even there although it was empty. The larger was disgusting and it was very clear the lines hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Most bitter, vinagary pint I've ever had. Cleaned my cutlery while waking for my food.... The food was so basic, frozen, under cooked it was laughable. . That's a basic underlay..... . At least weatherspoons own what they are, cheap and cheerful food that's alright.. This place was none of those things.... Struggling pretentious pub grub desperatly trying to go more upmarket...... Horrible start to finish.....

Really nice comfortable atmosphere with outstanding food .

What can I say, probably the best pub meal I have ever been for. 2 courses for £13.50.....fresh, home cooked food. Just divine. And the Raspberry and White Chocolate cheesecake was to die for....we will be back. My only issue was there was only one member of staff on and because of that the service was a little slower but she was polite and cheery

Had a family [4] birthday meal and I can honestly say the food quality was very poor, the experience wasn't good, tables were sticky, wifes meal was like a childs portion it was bland (braised steak) cheap mash. The puddings were tray baked and not great, we have had better from some pubs close to and cheaper, and we won't be going back

Dropped in while visiting Alton Towers and pleasantly surprised. Good pub food, really tasty and well done. Good menu choice. Only one bitter on draft but it was good. Lovely staff.

Went for afternoon lunch, theres a good choice on the menu, the food was excellent, good size portions and very tasty, service was good ,quick and friendly, loads of parking, a bit dated inside but didn't bother us, highly recommend this place.

Very good service from their staff and the bars have a light airy feel. I have to say the food was OK but that's it, rather uninspiring to be honest, I'm not a fan of the pile it high portions. The scampi was mushy and tasteless. Maybe this is a reflection of the lower end prices? I'd rather pay more and have better quality ingredients used.

Visited to celebrate a birthday. A small pub of many years but the reception very friendly and the service excellent. The starters were very good tasty and enough prior to the main meal. The Sunday carvery Lamb & Beef was exceedingly tasty, tender and enough in my opinion on a set menu. The beef was as good if not better than many establishment’s visited recently. The Tiramisu was outstanding and I would recommend this sweet to lovers of this desert.

We had a prawn starter which was nice with flavoursome cocktail sauce, salad and a piece of warm bread and butter. I had the roast beef sunday dinner which had to be sent back because there were no roast potatoes or stuffing on the plate. Then I had to ask for horseradish rather than being offered it. The roast dinner comes on a smallish oval plate and portion control is alive and well. My beef portion was small with two measley slices. It tasted okay thankfully. The veg on the plate was tasty as was the gravy and Yorkie (we had extra gravy at no extra cost) The meal overall was pretty good, but not Excellent. My vegetarian partner had the beetroot wellington and roasted veg. The extra gravy was sent back as it was meat gravy and was then replaced with veggie gravy. My partner pretty much liked this meal. Waiting times for food were not long at all (and the pub was very busy at the time) and the kitchen seems very efficient where this is concerned. The draught cider we had was Inch's at £2.65 for a half pint. This is pricing at the top end of what you should be paying! So it is expensive! Pricewise for Sunday Roast it's okay here and reasonable, but then, for us, it's much the same price at the Red House, Caverswall (bigger portions), Red Lion at Checkley (bigger portions), Butchers Block at Stone (bigger portions) and Brewers Fayre in Hanley (bigger portions)! Overall a nice visit, but watch the drinks prices and be aware of portion control which means smaller portions on the whole! I know the older you get above sixty the smaller appetite you are supposed to have, so you don't mind smaller portions, but that does NOT apply to me and I'm 65!!

Brilliant food and atmosphere for mothers day.

A family member booked this pub no one had been before so we didn't know what to expect the pub was very busy as you would expect we were welcomed in and showed to our table had our drinks with us from the bar the young waitress came and spoke to us took our orders the food came and it was spot on on time hot tasty great atmosphere our whole experience was excellent the prices aren't stupid in fact very reasonable a very enjoyable day we will definitely be back and we will recommend you to try it out

Great food and not badly priced.

I wanted to be able to give a better rating, I may actually have been quite generous. I don't like giving poorer ratings but if the cap fits and all that...the food was hot, but no imagination in the menu, the presentation, or the setting. It's a lovely pub but they have stark white lighting over the bar area (?) and it feels like it's stuck in an era when diners didn't have higher expectations, it has a slight 'canteen' feeling. This review might be taking the brunt of my disappointment in this type of venue; you have a nice venue, don't be lazy and make the most of it!

Family get together , 6 adults, 10 year old and 18 month old, great choice on menu and fantastic service as everyone served together which was amazing considering we all choose something different and not pre ordered, , plenty of choice for 10 year old too and happy to provide Highchair and plate for little one. Dessert menu was amazing, so much to choose from, it took us a while to decide. Again all served at same time which was brilliant. Next time we are up from Norfolk will definitely visit, great beer too!

The friends made what was a disastrous meal for me into a less upsetting experience. I had a vegetarian curry,that was as runny as a black coffee with about 4 cubes of sweet potato.l asked for a spoon to eat it and then decided to return it .The second attempt was not much better.The third was a vegetarian lasagne..By this time I was quite upset as they closed at 10pm

Lovely meal last night; great menu, tasty food, huge portions and brilliant value for money. Efficient and friendly service in a festive atmosphere. We were just passing through but wish we lived closer so we could go back and sample everything else!

Went to the Ship Inn last night as a group of 4 for a pre -Christmas dinner. We were warmly welcomed by Christina and shown to our table. Beautiful ambience, lovely festive tracks being played but not too loud, lovely table decs too and plenty of space, not all tables crammed in. Excellent menu ( as ever) we chose starters of lamb kebab, prawn and scallop gratin and an excellent antipasti all served with yummy accompaniments; requested extra mint and yoghurt - gorgeous. For mains: 2xturkey meals, 1x burger and 1x sea bass - we all cleared our plates, nice portion sizes, excellent cooking, wonderful accompaniments, great tastes and we all agreed that The Ship had already delivered excellent, tasty food for very good value and we also enjoyed excellent customer service. Only 2 of our party had room for desserts; an extensive list to choose from and all home-made. Finally, the white chocolate and Bailey's cheesecake and the raspberry and white chocolate sponge with custard were chosen - beyond delicious 😋😋😋😋😋 x The Ship is consistently good, welcoming, spotlessly clean and serves the best quality food in a lovely surrounding and I can not recommend it highly enough. Thank you all for a lovely evening x.

We have only just recently started coming hear as we live up the road and it’s two courses for 12.50 it’s an absolute bargain the food is always hot and we’ve had quite a few things on the menu and nothing has been disappointing, favourites are the chicken and ham pie and the braised beef, lovely little place to visit we’re going weekly now

We had Sunday lunch there, two courses for £12.50. Not a huge meal but perfectly adequate and really tasty, we had the the treacle sponge with custard from a choice of five different desserts. The sponge was superb. The ale was fine as was the pot of tea. No dogs allowed was the only downside. I understand why landlords do this but I honestly think customer could be increased if dogs were allowed in the bar area for instance. In summary, great food and drink for a reasonable price.

Visited with my daughter and 18 month old grandson for my birthday lunch. Staff were very attentive, professional with both adults and Oscar. The Ship has been recommended by both myself and daughter to anyone wanting a really good menu. Value for money and excellent food.

Not dog friendly in bar but ok in garden area bu too cold and wet for that. Shame as it looked a really nice location.

We had a lovely family meal on Saturday evening. Excellent value for money, and the food was piping hot. If we lived locally, we would eat there on a regular basis.

Had the 2 courses for $12 and the food was very nice and the cheesecake was especially good. Only had one bitter on tap but not drinking so no issue for me. Will definitely Go again.

After a long day at Alton Towers, we popped in here by chance as a large family of ten. The food, service, and atmosphere were brilliant, and staff could not do more to help and were very polite. Sensibly priced for the large meals. Thank you.

Wow, first visit but really impressed. Food was such value and sooo nice. Deserts are huge and delicious.

We were recommended The Ship for food, and the reviews sounded promising, but unfortunately our food was dire.. Braised steak was just a thin piece of meat and dry, mash potato reminded me of school mash thick and old, peas like bullets, that was mine 😛 my partners chicken breast with peppercorn sauce, was like a dry slice of breast with yellow sauce.. Just did not taste fresh at all.. Chips were odd and tasteless, a shame really as we can't recommend to our friends, low grade.

Returned to the Ship Inn tonight as a party of 4. We were warmly welcomed, shown to our table and allowed time to sit down before drinks orders were requested. We had a mixture of starters - each of them were delicious, Brie, 2xyumny mushrooms and 1x chicken strips. Tasty, flavoursome and yummy. Mains were: salmon with wonderful Mediterranean veg with THE most delicious dill sauce😋😋, battered haddock, lamb chops, beautifully cooked, amazing gravy and the duck - fantastic . The young lady serving us this evening had a wonderful personality, humourous, polite and an asset to this already fantastic establishment. Desserts, as ever were sublime, choc and orange sponge and best ever custard, sublime, blueberry sponge and almond tart - these sponges are as light as a feather, the pastry based desserts are as crisp as an expertly cooked biscuit; utterly amazing x The Ship Inn is Outstanding in all ways - totally unbeatable for delicious, tasty well cooked food at more than reasonable prices. Also, this establishment is spotlessly clean 10/10. Do visit this beautiful place for great food, a warm welcome and a lovely relaxed and unhurried evening. Cannot rate The Ship Inn highly enough in all areas .

Great place! The food is delicious and prices are very good for the quality and amount of food. I had the lamb shank and it was so soft and tasty. The waiters we're also very attentive and kind.

Warm , friendly, excellent home cooked food, great prices and very busy. Living in London and visiting family in Staffordshire, The Ship Inn is a great reminder of benefits and essential place of a real English Pub. We will be back!

Visited the Ship Inn on a few occasions now. The food is all home cooked. Good portions. Pricing is on par with other eateries, yet here you get real home cooked food. Service is waited. The atmosphere when full is lovely, homely and warm with a log burning fire. I only took pictures of desert (sorry). Crumble and chocolate orange sponge. Both beautiful and huge portions!

Never eaten in this establishment before,but after a lunch time visit on Wednesday we will certainly return again.Superb staff great food and presentation and very very reasonable prices.Well done everyone.

Absolutely delicious food with brill service!

We were welcomed into the pub by a friendly and attentive lady. We all had starters, which were fab - I can thoroughly recommend the Garlic Mushrooms which came with a warm bread roll. My husband had the soup which he said was very very nice. The prawn cocktail is like a mini meal.The Brie was really lovely. Our steaks were cooked to perfection as was the salmon and the nut roast. It wasn't overly busy - which given how much we all enjoyed our meal. There are well spaced out tables, and soft music in the background. Without doubt we will return.

Called in to have lunch with my grandson today. I hadn't been for many years as food back then wasn't the best but today we were very pleasantly surprised by giving it another go as since the last time there have been different owners. I had the steak sandwich which was wonderful .... plenty of thick sliced tender meat served on a wholemeal half baton, salad and coleslaw. My grandson had the duck which was served with peas, potatoes and peppercorn sauce. It was all very nice. If I had anything negative to say it would be that the service was a little lengthy but it was not an issue when we were presented with the lovely food. Well done in ticing us back to The Ship.

This place is very nice menu 2 for 11.00 for either a starter or pud and main meal or you can have some more expensive option of the menu. The food is all home cooked and delicious, staff very friendly and service is quite responsive I enjoy eating here

Good food, good price served quickly

Been past this little hidden gem so many times, yet never called in. But boy did it surpass itself, food was phenomenal and as for the desert menu couldn't believe how many they served. Definitely going back soon.
